California is the leading state in responding to global warming, and they’re like Colorado: Republican Governor and Democratic led State House & Senate.

I wonder what percentage of businesses were open one year later, in the areas hit by the tsunami?
August 25th, 2006 at 10:04 amGood morning, Sharon

August 25th, 2006 at 10:14 amYou’re not kidding about the fire danger, Sharon. Some idiot students were setting off fireworks at 4:30 a.m. the other day.
I must have looked like a crazy woman going out there in my bare feet and robe, asking them what the f*ck they thought they were doing, did they see the dry field right next to us, did they think they were living in the dorm, and do they really want to spend all the money mom & dad gave them on court fines?
Ah, that started the day well…
August 25th, 2006 at 10:21 amI have no idea what you look like, Zooey, but I can see that scene vividly!!!
Did you make them cry?
August 25th, 2006 at 10:27 amNo crying, but lots of “Yes, Ma,am” and “Sorry, Ma,am,” the ditching of funny cigarettes, and hiding of beer cans — since they were all underage. I think it helped that I was taller than most of them, and really looked kind of crazy. :)
August 25th, 2006 at 10:31 amWell gang, it’s yet another Friday and as I sit before my iMac I wonder what pre fab lieing new’s bull shit bush will try to pull out of the bag of trick’s he and his bunch run…..Will it be more good new’s, warm and fuzzy photo’s of the decider wheeling a hammer to repair a house in N.O?……Perhaps something about all the money he intends to spend on our failing equipment and troop’s in Iraq?……No wait it will be more saber ratteling and war drum beating intended for Iran………Oh darn, he is going to try and out do Hezbollah……Now for you entertainment we have yet more on the confessed killer of JonBonette……Back to Israel and excuses for their genocide on Lebanon…….Meanwhile back at the ranch..Oh wait, he’s vacationing at the family compound at Kenny Pork Bunk,Maine….Back to you George……Blessings all

August 25th, 2006 at 10:33 amThanks for starting my day with a smile.
True,
I’m here to serve. :)
I better be going. Today is the day I take Zoo Jr to start his college career in beautiful Coeur d’Alene. Got to get the car packed up with an unbelievable amount of crap and hit the road. I’m taking a box of tissues because I’ll probably need them on the way home. It’s only 2 hours away…it’s only two hours away…I keep telling myself that. It’s funny, it never even hit me until this morning.
Wish me luck! Hope to see you this evening!
August 25th, 2006 at 10:40 amYou sound like a younger version of me Zooey….Verbal and other wise……..I did much the same thing regarding throwing trash in our lake by numb nut boy’s……Went screaming profane word’s at the top of my lungs. All the neighbors came running to see the site….We ended up making the little rat basterds us a screen net and pull all their trash out of the lake..Mindless little parasites……This bunch (3) were 16 to 20…..Don’t think they will be so foolish in the future……Blessings
August 25th, 2006 at 10:40 amZooey, Keep thinking what a great trip it will be for you and him, the drive alone is gorgious…..Envy you and send Blessings….There use to be a great restraunt (Mexican food) on 4th in CDA….I was there when it opened in 80….Joses it was called, wonder if it is still there?……..Later
August 25th, 2006 at 10:46 amGood luck, Zooey.
I can’t even imagine that day with miniblue.
Be strong.
August 25th, 2006 at 10:47 amZooey you sound like a great mom!
August 25th, 2006 at 11:03 amI’m not too upset about limiting the pill to 18 year olds. I only hope this kind of helps younger people stay away from sex for a bit longer? Maybe they’ll want to hold off until they are able to use the stuff? I mean, kids are having sex so young these days – its awful.
On top of that – how healthy is it for someone so young to be taking a pill that alters there natural body cycle like that?
August 25th, 2006 at 11:07 amIs the sale of Plan B Emergency Contraception limited to only WOMEN over 18, or can a man, over the age of 18, buy it for his wife, partner (whatever) at the Rx counter? I don’t recall if this was ever explicitly stated.
August 25th, 2006 at 12:39 pm#19–are you that naive? It hasn’t been available to anyone OTC for the last three years–have teens had less sex? I’m pissed there’s so much damn politics in this. I want the FDA to decide if it is SAFE or NOT SAFE. I’m not a doctor, but I’m willing to bet that a 17-year-old’s uterus is not substantially different from an 18-year-old’s uterus. According to the FDA there’s quite a distinction apparently. Also, Plan B is OTC in name only–it’s only available in pharmacies and health clinics, it’s kept behind the counter, and can only be purchased when a health professional is available. Don’t hump on Fridays, girls! You can’t get Plan B until Monday AM!
The FDA is a joke. A political hackjob from top-to-bottom. Thanks a lot, Bush & Co. It’s something else you managed to screw up for the rest of us.

Comment by Jeb — August 25, 2006 @ 1:35 pm
I am willing to bet that the lungs of a 17 year old are not substantially different from those of an 18 year old, yet cigarettes are not legally available to them.
I am willing to bet that the stomach and liver of a 20 year old are not substantially different from those of a 21 year old, yet alcohol is not legally available to them.
Should “Plan B”, cigarettes, and alcohol be available to minors on the grounds that their bodies are not substantially different?
August 25th, 2006 at 2:03 pmNewName,
I suspect that kids are going to be having sex anyway. Wouldn’t you rather they had a way out of the consequences, or should they be forced to carry to term?
Personally, I think the Powers That Be intend teen pregnancies to supply them with the cannon-fodder required for their Oil Wars…
Be of good cheer!
August 25th, 2006 at 2:11 pm#23: Nice try–did you come up with that yourself, or do you just get the rightwing radio shows broadcast directly from your mouth? I want you to honestly, in your heart of hearts equate alcohol, tobacco, and birth control. If you have a decent, compassionate, thinking bone in your body; it’s impossible to do. Please, follow up here, admit your close-minded arrogance, and prepare to be ignored for the rest of your stay here. Thanks for dropping in.
This reminds me, not being INSANE currently, and not really looking to be driven INSANE; I don’t read right-wing blogs. I am amazed at the number of crazed foamy-mouthed conservatives that read and post on TP. It’s obvious you don’t like the tone or topics presented here–please leave us the hell alone. You don’t see me pooping on your Limblaughs.
August 25th, 2006 at 2:59 pmJeb,
You seriously need to calm down. You must also be new to this blog, since you believe I am a conservative. And I like the tone of the topics presented here, that’s why I’ve been posting for over a year now.
My point is simple: These are minors we are talking about. I was not equating alcohol to birth control. Follow me: There is a reason why alcohol and cigarettes (among other things) are not legally available to minors and that is because they are presumed not to be able to make certain decisions by themselves. There are medications that cannot be dispensed to minors without parental approval. From that perspective, I fail to see how Plan B is any different.
I know ThikProgress said “Women ages 17 and younger”, but that is a misnomer. Girls 17 and younger are not women -at least not legally. When a medication’s intended market are children, there are processes that need to be followed to certify that those medications are safe for them. You cannot give a child a medication approved for adults, even if a 18 year old body is not substantially different.
You were the one who brought up the “their bodies are not substantially different” idea. I merely expanded on it. In that sense, your reply was a non-reply. I don’t even know where the charges of “arrogance”, “close -minded”, “foamy-mouthed” (???) come from. You make waaay too many assumptions (what’s Limbaugh got to do with this topic anyway?) . And actually -it was you who came across as “foamy-mouthed”.
August 25th, 2006 at 3:30 pmGregor–please, save the lengthy diatribes for community access. I stated an opinion: the FDA has been politicized. This recent decision is not based on the safety of the drug in question. It is a politically motivated compromise to keep red-staters happy and blue-staters from blowing their collective stacks. It still stinks.
You then set up a straw man that equates birth control to tobacco and alcohol, and asked me to justify myself. Screw you. This isn’t rhetoric class, you don’t get points for dubious allegory.
Do you have an opinion with respect to how you feel about this issue or just a meta-opinion about me and what I think of it? You know what? Never mind. Sorry to have bothered the rest of the commenters with this. I would email this to him personally if I could. I’m done.
August 25th, 2006 at 3:40 pmJeb,
My opinion: I don’t think Plan B should be available to minors, for the very same reason many other substances shouldn’t.
And go take some anger management classes. Good riddance.
August 25th, 2006 at 4:52 pmZooey you sound like a great mom!

I am, just ask me!
I’m back! Zoo Jr is safely residing in the dorm in CDA, he’s only emailed me twice since I drove away. I cried like a big old baby, but I’m ok now.
