Today on MSNBC, retired General John Batiste — former commander of the First Infantry division in Iraq — said that it was “outrageous” Rumsfeld was still in charge of the Pentagon. Batiste added, “He served up our great military a huge bowl of chicken feces, and ever since then, our military and our country have been trying to turn this bowl into chicken salad.” Watch it:
Transcript:
Donald Rumsfeld is still at the helm of the Department of Defense, which is absolutely outrageous. He served up our great military a huge bowl of chicken feces, and ever since then, our military and our country have been trying to turn this bowl into chicken salad. And it’s not working.

I scared the chicken feces out of my third period class today. They are all boys, who were grumbling about their required Government class run by a very unpopular teacher. I told them that the reason they should care about government is because the Marines just had to call up their reserves because not enough people were signing up to fight in Iraq, and now that Bush was talking about attacking Iran, who did they think would be getting drafted into that war?
They all started saying that their mothers had already told them that they were moving to Canada if a draft were installed.
I then told them that if a Recruiter came into our room that they had my permission to leave the room and I would take the consequences for their actions. That it was their right to leave and I would defend it. Some told me they were already getting targetted in the parking lots at school and Movie theatres. 16 and 17 year old boys. It’s appalling.
August 25th, 2006 at 5:50 pmThe U.S. flight from Iraq has been in progress for the last couple of months as the word
i”insurgency” covers for a U.S. defeat. . The departure will accelerate as you here more news of “success” in Iraq.
The U.S. exit from Iraq will make the U.S. departure ( and I am being generous here) from
South Vietnam look like a Boy Scout outing.
Then let’s here the EMPLOYED military personnel comments, not just the retired ones.

Then on Election Day, EVERYBODY vote for the Democrats, in such numbers that they simply can’t steal the elections again, not all over the country.
The alternative is too frightening. When they sense they’re really losing power we can all expect another 9/11. They know that their necks are all on the line.
August 25th, 2006 at 6:00 pmSo Rumsfeld’s going to be the sacrificial goat and Bush and Cheney are going to walk for their heinous crimes. I should have known as soon as Hillary and Loserman came out for Rummy’s resignation without a word about his masters.

August 25th, 2006 at 6:01 pmThis is what Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Emperor Bush have brought to Iraq.
[from: http://www.riverbendblog.blogspot.com/ ]
Residents of Baghdad are systematically being pushed out of the city. Some families are waking up to find a Klashnikov bullet and a letter in an envelope with the words “Leave your area or else.†The culprits behind these attacks and threats are Sadr’s followers- Mahdi Army. It’s general knowledge, although no one dares say it out loud. In the last month we’ve had two different families staying with us in our house, after having to leave their neighborhoods due to death threats and attacks. It’s not just Sunnis- it’s Shia, Arabs, Kurds- most of the middle-class areas are being targeted by militias.
Other areas are being overrun by armed Islamists. The Americans have absolutely no control in these areas.…
During times like these I remember a speech Bush made in 2003: One of the big achievements he claimed was the return of jubilant ‘exiled’ Iraqis to their country after the fall of Saddam. I’d like to see some numbers about the Iraqis currently outside of the country you are occupying… Not to mention internally displaced Iraqis abandoning their homes and cities.
I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever know just how many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis left the country this bleak summer. I wonder how many of them will actually return. Where will they go? What will they do with themselves? Is it time to follow? Is it time to wash our hands of the country and try to find a stable life somewhere else?
Anyone who things Iraqi’s are better off than they were under Saddam is woefully ignorant.
Everyone in the Bush Cabal must be arrested, put on trial, and exiled for what they did to Iraq.

August 25th, 2006 at 6:25 pmMighty A: “SUCH courage in the face of danger”
It takes absolutely no courage to speak for power. That’s what Mighty A and the rest of the Bush cultists do — speak for power. The General didn’t have the right to speak to power when he was on active duty. Now, he’s retired and he can speak to power. That takes courage. Again, speaking for power is not something which even requires courage. And, the people who habitually speak for power are often cowards.

You know it. Teachers today all across the country are risking everything to speak up and speak out. They risk their jobs, livlihoods, and even their freedom.
I realize you don’t understand the fear of speaking out against an omnipresent federal government, because you’re too busy sucking their butts but one day, maybe even you will understand what it means to say something that you know your government doesn’t want you to say.
August 25th, 2006 at 6:35 pmAnyone notice how Rummy’s recent press conferences are largely comprised of him answering his own questions? On someone half his age, it might be considered to be dicactic; on this old coot, it’s clearly schizophrenic.
August 25th, 2006 at 6:36 pmRonin,
Now that might get me in trouble… I have to walk the line between being truthful about protecting their constitutional rights and being blatantly subversive. I try to make my subversion sugar-coated so it’s not easy to point out. Like how I’m teaching them to question what they think they know - but in the name of impressing an awareness of the structural integrity of their buildings. I’m really teaching them to question it all… because if they do - reality has a liberal bias that is hard to miss :)

August 25th, 2006 at 7:00 pmRet. General hits three network morning shows calling for Rumsfeld’s ouster
RAW STORY
Published: Friday April 14, 2006
Retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who led the 1st Infantry Division in Iraq, appeared on the morning talk shows of all three major networks on Friday calling for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation.
August 25th, 2006 at 7:04 pmIts going to be hard to smear Batiste though.
His men love him, he led the 1st infantry division and fought the republican guard as they went into Bagdad, and he tried to convince rumsfeld to let him stay and kill the enemy as they went into Bagdad.
Orders from Bush and Rummy however were to “keep pressing ahead”. So he said they’d hit and run, and we’d keep moving forward, and we knew we were going to have to fight them again.
Batiste just wanted to win. Hes not on our side necessarily. He was for the war originally I think, although he is quiet about his position on that because he feels its not important what he thought about that. But he thinks it IS important how to fight the war, and he says Bush and Rummy did NOT listen to him, and he has called openly for some time now for Rummys resignation.
So smearing him will take some doing, although I’m sure they’ll try.

MA, how ’bout reading this , then post as fact-based a rebuttal to Gen. Butler’s own words as he had the wisdom to offer even talkers like yourself. I’m not holding my breath for you. By the way, Marines like Buter, or Zinni, or my father, aren’t overly dovish by nature. They’re just unlike you in one important sense: they’ve put their lives in danger for the country in more ways than most service members, and I’m betting people like you, could ever imagine. That gives them something you look to be in desparate need of — credibility.

And if after all of this time, and all of this sacrifice, and all of this support, there is no end in sight, then I say the time has come for the American people to turn to leadership not tied to the mistakes and policies of the past.-Richard M. Nixon.
Well, Mighty Moron, you will NEVER escape this pile of bs until you fess up. I do believe that you may have “graduated” from the acme correspondence law school. but One can see that you faked it and never got past the 3rd grade in real life.
August 25th, 2006 at 9:20 pmI am still in shock about where we started and where we are today. You know, its not just the situation in Iraq—look around: The social-economic divide is stronger than ever (middle class fading away faster than Bush’s approval rating), healthcare (or more appropriately “Sick Care”) simply sucks, the “foundation” jobs being exported, over 60% of people of retirement age cannot afford to retire, record home owners have so much debt they risk losing their homes…on and on. You can say what you want, but do you remember the time when we had one of the biggest budget surpluses in history (Clinton administration). This is going to get alot worse folks–you think you are safe because you are financially OK? This is something that will affect all of us for years to come. Turn off the brainwashing TV Media, get off the couch and get active–we are in a fight for our country–we need to take it back from the powerful and greedy corporations who are polluting the world and in the business of modern enslavement.

August 25th, 2006 at 9:52 pmDoes anyone have an idea for a strategy to get out of Iraq?
Comment by combatvet — August 25, 2006 @ 9:37 pm
Sure.
They call it the Murtha plan (but in all fairness I posted this idea in TP long before Jack Murtha came out with it:).
The idea is so simple, I am sure many people have thought of it independently.
Redeploy the troops out of Iraq, to surrounding regions, like Bahrain and Kuwait. Have quick response strike teams (air assault and deploy troops by chopper) ready to go 24 by 7, to assist the Iraqi army and police with quelling an uprising, but for the most part, stay the hell away.
This will encourage UN peacekeepers to come in and assist at the Iraqi’s request as well, and possibly bolster their police and military forces.
This will also permit the Iraqi people to govern themselves, and a funny thing happens when you let people govern themselves.
They figure shit out.
Also it allows them to come to grips with what it is THEY want, not us. If it turns out that it doesn’t work, and they just keep fighting (which is why we should’ve stayed the hell out in the first place)and people keep dying, then we’ll need to shift to plan B.
Plan B is also pretty simple.
Divide the nation up into seperate states, and have another sectarian division in the middle east like Israel and Palestine. UN and US peacekeepers will need to guard the borders until something can be worked out. Course Plan B is not optimal but then again thats why its plan B, not to mention another good reason for keeping the hell out of there in the first place.

After reading my Comment #93 how could you dare to belittle my favorite Planet. Pluto is Pluto and Walt Disney was borderline is using the name. But you, Sir, want to say my Pluto is crazy is beyond the pale! I know you tried to hide the fact by spelling it differently but it didn’t work.
Now, if your formula read Democracy
August 25th, 2006 at 9:55 pmRemember, the Iraqi army is larger than the current US occupying force.
And these people grew up in war, and shooting guns.
If they’re not ready to defend themselves now it has NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING to do with their combat readiness.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that they ARE the insurgency.

August 25th, 2006 at 10:12 pm# 106 The right strategy:
August 25th, 2006 at 10:12 pmUS gets the hell out of Iraq. Stop sucking Iraq´s oil. Drill the same amount of oil in US territory to compensate Iraq for all the illegal extraction. US pays for all the damages to Iraq infrastructure and industriy. For every dead iraqi civilian, US mourns as if they were american soldiers. US digs a hole and spends a hundred years not polluting, not invading, not supporting terrorists, not dumping, not asking III world countries to engage free-market, and not spreading democracy anymore. Hows that? Tough? Well…from this side of the world is called justice.

Read today on Huffinton that he is a bed wetter. So his name is president Pee Pee. Let’s all send him Pee Pee Teepee’s at Christmas to help with his bed wetting problems. They are for babies, but I read that his pecker is wee wee so this little hats should fit.

Are you still a bed wetter? Is that why you don’t find my joke funny and feel a need to attack me?
If that’s the case, then, I’ll keep your problem a secret.
August 25th, 2006 at 10:28 pmGen. John Batiste (ret.) claims Rumsfeld served up our military “a huge bowl of chicken feces,” the president likes to refer to Karl Rove as “turd blossom,” and according to published reports this week, Mr. Bush is fond of flatulence in all forms. Forget Camus, W. can combine cornpone comedy and classical writing with, “John Paul Sartre is a Fartre.”
August 25th, 2006 at 10:31 pm#136,
WTF yo talkin’ ’bout, Boy. Yo Momma done told me you was the one that said: “Momma, just call me Pee Pee ’cause I’m all your’n.”
August 25th, 2006 at 10:33 pmBadmoodman - see you get, “turd blossom”, “chicken feces”, “farting frat boy”, and add to that “bed wetting frat boy”. Children… all of them… and these are the people running our government.
Jesus was a Liberal, persecuted by Conservatives. Amen
August 25th, 2006 at 10:35 pmYou said it dixie blood!I served in the Navy while Skippy Peanut butter cowered in the White House when Iran held American citizens as hostages. If he had acted then, I think the middle east would be much different now. Anyway, young adults are cowards. Both my daughters volunteered for the Army National Guard. Neither have had to go to the middle east yet but they realize they might.
August 25th, 2006 at 10:37 pmalfterglow - I hope that your daughters don’t return in coffins draped with flags. There’s way too many of these coffins returning and Bush wants more troops in Iraq and he’s staying the course… the course to hell.
August 25th, 2006 at 10:44 pmThe reality is Bush and his treasonous scumbag friends deserve a firing squad. This is biggest crime ever committed by the U.S. government on it’s own people. Bigger than Vietnam, because the cost and consequences of this imperial war will dwarf that conflict.
Funny, I had an interesting thought. I think the 21st century will be about the rest of the world fighting to overthrow the post-WWII power structure (UN Security Council) of those nations really in charge (actually corperations are in charge, but every business needs political friends). It’s already happening: Lebanon, Iraq, Venezuela, Brazil, Iran………These people want freedom. True Freedom. Not American corporate bitch freedom.
So what is the symbol of this true freedom?
“Of all the weapons in the vast Soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than the Avtomat Kalishnakova Model of 1947 a.k.a more commonly known as the AK-47 or Kalishnakov. It’s the world’s most popular assualt rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9-pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesen’t break, jam, or overheat. It will shoot whether it’s covered in mud or filled with sand. It’s so easy, even a child can use it…….and they do.”
August 25th, 2006 at 10:45 pmCan we start throwing Iran-Contra criminals in jail now?
August 25th, 2006 at 10:49 pmI did, just beat him and he doesn’t know it yet.

August 25th, 2006 at 10:50 pmI want to know what post #5 meant by:
>Remember, folks, Rummy and the rest only look incompetent if you judge their actions against their stated goals. If you consider their actions in the light of their actual goals, they’re right on track.
em>
Are Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield purposely trying to destroy our military strength? It sure seems like it by the way they treat soldiers with inadequate equipment, decreasing va benefits, multiple tours of duty, etc.
Are they trying to destroy our democracy? It certainly seems like it with their warrantless spying, steeling of elections, Patriot Act, etc.
Do they want us to go bankrupt and have countries like China and Dubai take over? It certainly seems like it when they continuously borrow billions and then waste billlions on no bid contracts and incompetent fraud and also want to trust foreigners to keep our ports/weapon manufacturing plants secure.
Do they want another 9/11? Sure seems like it by not securing the borders, ports, chemical plants, etc.
Do they want Americans to be destitute, by outsourcing good jobs, making health care unavailable for many and try to eliminate social security?
Look at katrina…..how could the administration not know what was happening for five days when the rest of the world knew right away? I just don’t buy that Bush was unaware.
I have doubted all along that the Bush cabal is incompetent. I have long wondered what their true goals are? Do they honestly have Americans’ interests at heart?
August 25th, 2006 at 10:56 pmOk, smoke a joint. I know they did that in Nam.
August 25th, 2006 at 10:57 pmLPAC - good work. Do you think these “pissed” off people will vote Democratic in November? Did you get any sense of how they were planning on voting?

That’s so sweet.
Believe me I’ve been called worse.
:O
August 25th, 2006 at 11:08 pmIt’s a sad state of affairs that these Generals need to wait until they retire to speak up. They serve many years, something like 30 years, so that they can qualify for their retirement pension. If they speak up against this war in Iraq while before their retirement, they risk losing everything. That’s how the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove/Libby cabal operate. I’ve added Scooter’s name because of his direct involvement with outing a CIA agent. That’s treason.

But perchance I disrespect a mans actual service to his country I must concede the benefit of the doubt for now. But I shall watch this one closley. I come from a military family. My father, brothers, gramps, uncles, everyone served. Everyone but me. So his taunts as to my non service are nothing to me, hes got nothing on the folks.

August 25th, 2006 at 11:39 pmDisposable Heroes,
From my experience, I think you are spot on.
I know several people currently deployed.
The one who campaigned for the GOP (vigorously) is the only one NOT in Iraq at the moment.
August 25th, 2006 at 11:43 pmCoincidence?
I’d just like to mention that active duty officers cannot question orders or publicly speak out against them. That’s just the military rules… from what I remember.
So if you’re wondering why only Ret. military leaders are speaking up, that’s why. I’m sure most believe this “war” is a mess. That’s why it would help if Rummy was removed. Someone with some sense could take over. It couldn’t get worse.
Pray for the troops… and pray that the NeoCons don’t swiftboat anyone that speaks from their hearts.
August 25th, 2006 at 11:44 pmThats true Steve, however technically if a General truly believes his CIF is criminally negligent, hes supposed to resign.
Thats what Batiste did, and now they wanna criticize him for doing what he was supposed to do.

Ok. But what about Lt. Watada? The real problem is we think the forces as a sacres, untouchable, made by god, structure. And it is not. The forces are made of people and people can think.
