I scared the chicken feces out of my third period class today. They are all boys, who were grumbling about their required Government class run by a very unpopular teacher. I told them that the reason they should care about government is because the Marines just had to call up their reserves because not enough people were signing up to fight in Iraq, and now that Bush was talking about attacking Iran, who did they think would be getting drafted into that war?

They all started saying that their mothers had already told them that they were moving to Canada if a draft were installed.

I then told them that if a Recruiter came into our room that they had my permission to leave the room and I would take the consequences for their actions. That it was their right to leave and I would defend it. Some told me they were already getting targetted in the parking lots at school and Movie theatres. 16 and 17 year old boys. It's appalling.

The U.S. exit from Iraq will make the U.S. departure ( and I am being generous here) from
South Vietnam look like a Boy Scout outing.

Then let's here the EMPLOYED military personnel comments, not just the retired ones.

The alternative is too frightening. When they sense they're really losing power we can all expect another 9/11. They know that their necks are all on the line.

  30. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

This is what Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Emperor Bush have brought to Iraq.

    [from: http://www.riverbendblog.blogspot.com/ ]

Residents of Baghdad are systematically being pushed out of the city. Some families are waking up to find a Klashnikov bullet and a letter in an envelope with the words “Leave your area or else.” The culprits behind these attacks and threats are Sadr’s followers- Mahdi Army. It’s general knowledge, although no one dares say it out loud. In the last month we’ve had two different families staying with us in our house, after having to leave their neighborhoods due to death threats and attacks. It’s not just Sunnis- it’s Shia, Arabs, Kurds- most of the middle-class areas are being targeted by militias.

Other areas are being overrun by armed Islamists. The Americans have absolutely no control in these areas....

During times like these I remember a speech Bush made in 2003: One of the big achievements he claimed was the return of jubilant ‘exiled’ Iraqis to their country after the fall of Saddam. I’d like to see some numbers about the Iraqis currently outside of the country you are occupying… Not to mention internally displaced Iraqis abandoning their homes and cities.

I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever know just how many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis left the country this bleak summer. I wonder how many of them will actually return. Where will they go? What will they do with themselves? Is it time to follow? Is it time to wash our hands of the country and try to find a stable life somewhere else?

Anyone who things Iraqi's are better off than they were under Saddam is woefully ignorant.

Everyone in the Bush Cabal must be arrested, put on trial, and exiled for what they did to Iraq.

Mighty A: "SUCH courage in the face of danger"

It takes absolutely no courage to speak for power. That's what Mighty A and the rest of the Bush cultists do -- speak for power. The General didn't have the right to speak to power when he was on active duty. Now, he's retired and he can speak to power. That takes courage. Again, speaking for power is not something which even requires courage. And, the people who habitually speak for power are often cowards.

You know it. Teachers today all across the country are risking everything to speak up and speak out. They risk their jobs, livlihoods, and even their freedom.

I realize you don't understand the fear of speaking out against an omnipresent federal government, because you're too busy sucking their butts but one day, maybe even you will understand what it means to say something that you know your government doesn't want you to say.

  47. suggie Says:

Anyone notice how Rummy's recent press conferences are largely comprised of him answering his own questions? On someone half his age, it might be considered to be dicactic; on this old coot, it's clearly schizophrenic.

  48. unbelievable Says:

    Ronin,

Now that might get me in trouble... I have to walk the line between being truthful about protecting their constitutional rights and being blatantly subversive. I try to make my subversion sugar-coated so it's not easy to point out. I'm really teaching them to question it all... because if they do - reality has a liberal bias that is hard to miss :)

Iraqis loot base after British troops leave

Incident could be indicative of trouble to come when U.S. forces exit
    ...

In the midst of the looting, one man who refused to give his name, said: “This is war loot, and we are allowed to take it.”

Then buried in the story (damn liberal media) we see this:

    U.S. troops fire at mosque

Elsewhere, five people were killed across the country and U.S. forces fired tank rounds at a mosque in the restive city of Ramadi during a gunbattle with militants inside, damaging the dome and the minaret.

And still the republicans don't understand where terrorists come from.

  56. WORFEUS Says:

Ret. General hits three network morning shows calling for Rumsfeld's ouster

    RAW STORY
    Published: Friday April 14, 2006

Retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who led the 1st Infantry Division in Iraq, appeared on the morning talk shows of all three major networks on Friday calling for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's resignation.

  57. WORFEUS Says:

Its going to be hard to smear Batiste though.

His men love him, he led the 1st infantry division and fought the republican guard as they went into Bagdad, and he tried to convince rumsfeld to let him stay and kill the enemy as they went into Bagdad.

Orders from Bush and Rummy however were to "keep pressing ahead". So he said they'd hit and run, and we'd keep moving forward, and we knew we were going to have to fight them again.

Batiste just wanted to win. Hes not on our side necessarily. He was for the war originally I think, although he is quiet about his position on that because he feels its not important what he thought about that. But he thinks it IS important how to fight the war, and he says Bush and Rummy did NOT listen to him, and he has called openly for some time now for Rummys resignation.

So smearing him will take some doing, although I'm sure they'll try.

  58. WORFEUS Says:

General Shinseki had it right, you might recall, when he suggested that it would take around 300,000.

GEN. BATISTE: Actually, it's not. I have not talked to the other generals.

I am still in shock about where we started and where we are today. You know, its not just the situation in Iraq---look around: The social-economic divide is stronger than ever (middle class fading away faster than Bush's approval rating), healthcare (or more appropriately "Sick Care") simply sucks, the "foundation" jobs being exported, over 60% of people of retirement age cannot afford to retire, record home owners have so much debt they risk losing their homes...on and on. You can say what you want, but do you remember the time when we had one of the biggest budget surpluses in history (Clinton administration). This is going to get alot worse folks--you think you are safe because you are financially OK? This is something that will affect all of us for years to come. Turn off the brainwashing TV Media, get off the couch and get active--we are in a fight for our country--we need to take it back from the powerful and greedy corporations who are polluting the world and in the business of modern enslavement.

Iraq is a failed Bush policy and as November approaches, GOP candidates WILL be watching the polls that say most Americans do not approve of what's going on in Iraq. GOP candidates have a tough balancing act speaking out againstt he failed Iraq policy while groveling to Karl Rove for money. Basically an unprincipled lot they are.

  97. Coffins draped with flags Says:

#106 - yeah, Representative John Murtha has a plan on how to get out of Iraq.

I think that Cheney, Bush, and Haliburton and the Oil Companies should pay back the federal deficit. After all, they are responsible for this deficit. This is where Libertarians and I agree. After that, we part ways (which the exception of the invasion of Iraq).

  98. WORFEUS Says:

Does anyone have an idea for a strategy to get out of Iraq?

    Comment by combatvet — August 25, 2006 @ 9:37 pm

    Sure.

They call it the Murtha plan (but in all fairness I posted this idea in TP long before Jack Murtha came out with it:).

The idea is so simple, I am sure many people have thought of it independently.

Redeploy the troops out of Iraq, to surrounding regions, like Bahrain and Kuwait. Have quick response strike teams (air assault and deploy troops by chopper) ready to go 24 by 7, to assist the Iraqi army and police with quelling an uprising, but for the most part, stay the hell away.

This will encourage UN peacekeepers to come in and assist at the Iraqi's request as well, and possibly bolster their police and military forces.

This will also permit the Iraqi people to govern themselves, and a funny thing happens when you let people govern themselves.

    They figure shit out.

Also it allows them to come to grips with what it is THEY want, not us. If it turns out that it doesn't work, and they just keep fighting (which is why we should've stayed the hell out in the first place)and people keep dying, then we'll need to shift to plan B.

Plan B is also pretty simple.

Divide the nation up into seperate states, and have another sectarian division in the middle east like Israel and Palestine. UN and US peacekeepers will need to guard the borders until something can be worked out. Course Plan B is not optimal but then again thats why its plan B, not to mention another good reason for keeping the hell out of there in the first place.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that they ARE the insurgency.

US gets the hell out of Iraq. Stop sucking Iraq´s oil. Drill the same amount of oil in US territory to compensate Iraq for all the illegal extraction. US pays for all the damages to Iraq infrastructure and industriy. For every dead iraqi civilian, US mourns as if they were american soldiers. US digs a hole and spends a hundred years not polluting, not invading, not supporting terrorists, not dumping, not asking III world countries to engage free-market, and not spreading democracy anymore. Hows that? Tough? Well...from this side of the world is called justice.

The reality is Bush and his treasonous scumbag friends deserve a firing squad. This is biggest crime ever committed by the U.S. government on it's own people. Bigger than Vietnam, because the cost and consequences of this imperial war will dwarf that conflict.

Funny, I had an interesting thought. I think the 21st century will be about the rest of the world fighting to overthrow the post-WWII power structure (UN Security Council) of those nations really in charge (actually corperations are in charge, but every business needs political friends). It's already happening: Lebanon, Iraq, Venezuela, Brazil, Iran.........These people want freedom. True Freedom. Not American corporate bitch freedom.

So what is the symbol of this true freedom?

"Of all the weapons in the vast Soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than the Avtomat Kalishnakova Model of 1947 a.k.a more commonly known as the AK-47 or Kalishnakov. It's the world's most popular assualt rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9-pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesen't break, jam, or overheat. It will shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it.......and they do."

    >Remember, folks, Rummy and the rest only look incompetent if you judge their actions against their stated goals. If you consider their actions in the light of their actual goals, they’re right on track.

    em>

Are Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield purposely trying to destroy our military strength? It sure seems like it by the way they treat soldiers with inadequate equipment, decreasing va benefits, multiple tours of duty, etc.

Are they trying to destroy our democracy? It certainly seems like it with their warrantless spying, steeling of elections, Patriot Act, etc.

Do they want us to go bankrupt and have countries like China and Dubai take over? It certainly seems like it when they continuously borrow billions and then waste billlions on no bid contracts and incompetent fraud and also want to trust foreigners to keep our ports/weapon manufacturing plants secure.

Do they want another 9/11? Sure seems like it by not securing the borders, ports, chemical plants, etc.

Do they want Americans to be destitute, by outsourcing good jobs, making health care unavailable for many and try to eliminate social security?

Look at katrina.....how could the administration not know what was happening for five days when the rest of the world knew right away? I just don't buy that Bush was unaware.

I have doubted all along that the Bush cabal is incompetent. I have long wondered what their true goals are? Do they honestly have Americans' interests at heart?

Good day Zooey - it has been awhile. I have been lurking but no time to post. School started last week and I am exhausted. I forgot that standing in heels for 5 hours a day can tire you out. I guess that is why we teachers get paid so much.

I am teaching one course for seniors who have very low level math skills. The teacher who taught it last year allowed a recruiter to speak to her class as she thought her students had few other options. I have a feeling this guy will be contacting me to speak to the class again. There is no way in hell I will allow that to happen. If these kids want to die for an unjust cause they can learn about it on their own time. I refuse to play a role in it. There are other options for them and that is what I am teaching them.

Yeah, Zoo, I gave the boys permission to leave the room should a recruiter come into it. Told them I'd deal with the consequences. And not all of my students have excellent math skills either...

I refuse to help the tyrants in the White House send innocent children to their deaths of an illegal war. To me that would be the crime - letting those Recruiters in the room. Not all valid jobs require excellent math skills...

Okay, just checking, I'm putting together a lesson on how the Trade Towers fell for next week. I'm starting to teach them about basic statics (structural physics) by letting them build stuff that has to withstand reality (gravity, water, wind, weight and fire - yes, we'll be setting stuff on fire, nice thing about being at a charter school, they let me get away with anything I can validate :) I need to get back to it... and grade papers... Will check in again.

    Have a nice Saturday!

  269. Candymarl Says:

FYI, these generals cannot say anything while on active duty. While active duty military you can't criticize your superiors publicly. As a general he would only be forced to retire. As a lower ranking (junior) officer he would be court-martialed. It's against the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Active duty military people do not fall under civilian law unless the military agrees to turn them over to civilian authority or unless they are dismissed from the service by court-martial. Or if an officer (not an enlisted person) decides to resign her/his commission. The military has a separate set of federal laws for its own. Many people fail to grasp that. The most these people can do is keep quiet until retirement. Rummy threatened to send a group of retired generals and colonels that called for his resignation "back to Iraq". He claimed it was a joke. It wasn't. As officers all of them could of them could have been recalled. He'd rather see these critics dead than speaking against him. These generals know this.

On the one hand, I am against a draft, being a 60's anti-war person. On the other hand, people should be out in the streets protesting by the millions...but they are not. A draft, or at least rumors of a draft, might scare the bejeebers out of enough people - almost-draft-age kids and their parents - to get some really outrage about Bush's war and Bush's administration voiced.

  272. Jasbunny Says:

Candymarl - thanks for the excellent explanation. What Colin Powell never got, and what so many others in the military haven't gotten, is that (UCMJ aside) their true and highest loyalty lies - and should lie - with the American people and the democratic ideals of this country. The idea that one should be blindly loyal to a Commander in Chief who is blatantly abusing his powers to go to war against a nation that was not an imminent threat, and a Secretary of Defense who has gotten NOTHING right in any part of his military planning, is ludicrous. I lost respect for Powell when he did not speak up to expose this administration. If you must, retire, and SPEAK UP. Thousands of people are dying and being horribly wounded, only to see the U.S. even more hated in the world today. (BTW, the terrorists hate us not for our freedoms, but for our foreign policy, in this case shoddily cooked up for us by the neocons).

Actually the Democrats have actually been better on national defense. They have proposed policies which actually would make America safer (Such as inspecting cargo before it comes into port) have not let up on hunting down Osama (While Bush closed down the CIA unit dedicated to hunting Osama last year) and have not put forward things like putting the operation of US ports in the hands of the UAE, one of the few governments to recognise the Taliban.

The Democrats are not ideal, but by and large they have not been the unmitigated screw-up that Bush's Republicans have been. Remember, under Bush the worst terrorist attack in America's history took place. Under him the first Islamic terrorist attack against Britain took place. Under him America found itself embroiled in two major wars. Bush as a president, has not been good for America's national security.

  275. James Says:

Where are people who know and understand what's going on in America? Why aren't they in the streets protesting? But Diane don't confuse appreciation and love for our troops with approval of our government's policies. GW is by definition a liar, a pompus ass, a deserter, and a war criminal. His actions and arrogance have gotten about 3000 US troops killed to set up a Sh'ia Muslim government in Iraq, endangered the rest of us in the US by angering Muslims who will now spend the rest of their lives trying to get revenge, killed 200,000 innocent men, women, and children in Iraq with "shock and awe", and wants to put your son into an illegal war in Iran. GW has done nothing to protect your son - no adequate body armor, no armored HumVees, no adequate food and water. So while we love and cherish the troops following orders and thinking those orders are protecting America and Americans, we can disagree with and put on trial for war crimes the ciminals that sent our boys there in the first place.

Dear Diane - Thank YOUR wonderful SON for me!!! You are a special mother who understands the peril of radical Islam. God BLESS and KEEP your son and family. We are a military family and understand your PRIDE and CONCERN.

Teachers who mistakenly demote the values of a wonderful country (note I did not say "perfect") are partially responsible for the cultural demise of large segments of our society. There was a time when teachers were respected members of the community (some still are today) but since the profession has been hijacked by socialists, atheists, secular humanism and labour unions, which promote mediocrity, our children have consistently fallen farther....and farther... behind.

Wish your brave, dear son "God Speed"!

  299. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Diane, I care about your son, and all who are in harms way. I also encourage you to read the many, many threads on this site, dating back the past 3 years. "Radical Islamic Terrorists" are the symptom of a greater problem, a problem that is not solved by attacking a sovereign country. In fighting "terrorists" we have become terrorists ourselves, Radical Christian Terrorists. Our own young men and women have been put in situations they never should have been, and have committed war crimes as a result.

If you read the various posts, you will find that most of the people "Mighty Aphrodite" derides do, in fact support the soldiers. Our criticism is against the civilian leadership of the military. Our sentiments are echoed by several Generals who, upon leaving the armed forces are finally able to speak out against the Bush Administration.

  300. bones Says:

Diane, do you know you are thanking mighty aphrodaite, a person who advocates killing innocent children, kiddnapping and torturing human beings, murder, racial profiling, denial of civil rights, and nuclear war? MA is an evil chameleon, she will say anything to suck you into her evil subhuman world and then stab you in the back. research her posts on this blog. She is an evil, murderous, racist bigot who supports GW and his abandonment of your son. Don't get sucked into her lies because she is the serpent in paradise, and as Eve was fooled, so you are being fooled.

  301. alexy Says:

When will the military say: "enough is enough"? When will the troopsd in the field, in their compounds in iraq, refuse to go out on patrol because they have relized that theyr are nothing but cannon fodder for King George VII?

By the way- have you noticed that Bush is starting to use the "Royal" WE when he refers to himself?
    Alexy

  302. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Diane - Thank you for your kind comments. You are intelligent enough to know that there is no negotiating with, or appeasement of, those fanatics who wish us ALL dead. TYhe enemy we engage today is the most insidious we have faced. The true shame is that we must engage an enemy who fights with seventh century barbarism in the 21st century. I believe the true shame is the inability or unwillingness of moderate "normal" Muslims in loudly condemning the murderers in their midst.

Unfortunate;y, some people here in the "please and appease" crowd wish to blame the victim of attack. That is like blaming a well-dressed man for being mugged, beaten and robbed. If he weren't wearing such nice clothes, maybe the ne'er do well thieves would not have preyed on him. My first alliegance is to my God, my family and my country. Some "one-world" socialists mistakenly view that as bigotry. I call it survival.

Again, if you are inclined and able, send your son our kindest thoughts and prayers. We will pray for "Diane's Son".

  303. Boston Says:

OK, there's no question that at best Bush, et al. have been incompentent in thnking they could build a free and peaceful Iraq easily, without a civil war, without interference from Iran and Syria, and without enough troop strength to deal with it all. And there's no question they lied to the public about a link between Sadaam, WMD, Al Queda, and Sept. 11, b/c (once again at best) they knew otherwise the public would have supported an attempt to spread democracy by force in the middle east.

    BUT...

Let's try to make this discussion positive. How can we defeat the Islamic fundamentalists who hate us and want to nuke us? What strategies and tactics should we start using TODAY?

******Dear Braid - Why SO vague - spell out the "PROBLEM". How completely DISGUSTING of you to sanctimoniously tell a mother of a soldier "we have become terrorists" and "committed war crimes as a result.". With your assumptive nature, your degree "with disctinction" must be a figment of an accelerated imagination. Shame on you! 312. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Mighty A:

The Problem, or at least a condensed version, feel free to Google: the United States supported many vicious dictators, including Saddam Hussein; Corporations exploiting third world country labor; the economic disparity between the haves and the have-nots.

War crimes, that we know about; the Haidatha rape/murder; Abu Gharib. Charges have been filed, adn in some cases there have been convictions. My point was, these kids should never have been put in that position in the first place. Their lives have been ruined because of Bush's war of aggression. And nearly 3000 US service men and women have died in a war fought on a pretext, a lie. "The facts were fixed around the policy" of going to war against Iraq.

In much of the world's eyes, the United States poses a greater terrorist threat than Al Qada. And, unlike Saddam Hussein, we do have weapons of mass destruction. We have already used cluster bombs and white phosphorous weapons in situations which injured countless civilians. And remember, Bush has refused to rule out using nuclear weapons against Iran!

To ask a soldier to die for a lie is doing our men and women who volunteered to protect this country a great disservice. They deserve better.

I do appreciate the men and women of the Armed Services. They do a job that would not have to be done, were mankind an enlightened species. But need I remind you, soldiers did not write the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Soldiers did not hand down the Supreme Court decisions which struck down various llaws as unconstitutionally infirnging on our freedoms and liberties. Both soldiers and lawyers have helped to secure the freedoms we in the United States enjoy.

  313. bones Says:

Asshat, without you the world would be 95% better. Less hate, less evil, less racism, less bigotry, less evil.

  314. bones Says:

Oh and asshat I forgot, one less horsefaced GW prostitute.

  315. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Braid Fair - We could give the radicalized Muslims every dime and resource we have and they would still hate our GUTS. This is NOT about money, or crop tops or badly acted movies. This is about the extremist "Allah Akbar" crowd versus "the infidels". Unfortunately - it's US against THEM. The sad part, in their effort to appear erudite and sapient, too many progs side with THEM.

Your discussion of war crimes reinforces MY point. Should soldiers be punished for rape and cold-blooded murder - you bet, I worked in the system of military justice for years and you would be proud to know how honour bound our military personnel are. But while you're noting the rotten apples, please note HOW many mullahs were calling for the prosecution of Zarqawi for his terrible "war crimes"?? HOW MANY? The United States is a wonderful place, not perfect, but I have found an abiding honour in the rules of engagement - which you may have noticed, my enemy does not engage.

Your repeating the talking-point "die for a lie" is pathetic. "lie - noun (pronunciation: lahy) - "a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood." As usual, you omit one of the necessary elements - mens rea. (Look it up if the concept is foreign. Did you miss class the day they taught law at law school?)

As for whether the rest of the world loves or hates us - you are confusing me with someone who gives a $h*t what the rest of the world thinks.Much of the world lives in a socialist hammock that will burst from their collective weight. That is their choice -but I don't feel this great need to be LOVED by "the rest of the world". BTW, they only like us when we're pulling their bacon out of the fire, sending them money or caving into their demands. And the good folks who do like us, seem to want to gethere in record numbers. So what's wrong with their wonderful native countries??

As I noted, lawyers function to protect clients, whether in criminal cases or civil disagreements. Dred Scott and Plessy demonstrate a narrow and ignorant view. Those wonderful Republicans who fought for the Union Army and helped pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act are as constitutionally "sensitive" as any self-righteous prog - BTW - where was Al Gore, Sr on that issue?

In conclusion, your "support" of our troops IS NOT appreciated by many due to your level of equivocation. If you served the United States in the military - THANK YOU! If you were too busy....thanks for nothing.

  316. mighty aphrodite Says:

#336 - "AFTER the fight, which ensured American independence," mighty me being quoted by bLIAR

Mens rea can be established through a showing of willful ignorance or a reckless disregard for the truth. I say, let's have the impeachment and trial. Bring out all the facts. Did Bush intentionally lie? Was he willfully ignorant? Did he have a reckless disregard for the truth? Or is he just plain stupid?

They dont torture for the hell of it. and tourturing isnt like in the days when the japs would popp a Soldiers knee cap out or removing body parts so lets not exadurate....... I support nuclear weapons used on counties say for an example iran n korea. They will use it on us u can be sure of that as soon as they can. theres so many people who dont advovacate joining the military.so to thoose people we must use them because there is only so much a military can do. Unless we impose drafting...... like i said i support nuclear weapon use by us. My son is an MP and is a gunner with his 3 man squad and he does have access to the water cooler vest that keeps him cooler but it goes like this there is only so much thAT fits in a humvee so ythat is always left behind. He has been hit and survived an ied. Hes seen his brothers (military) blown apart. Hes buried friends.Yes its time we get out of there but make no mistake my Son has never committed a war crime and yes hes killed and been shot at so many times u loose count. No Troop has comitted a crime by following orders Briseadh na Faire.
al queda has been killing Americans for years and years. They need to be stopped.by doing nothing y should they stop. When we pull out they will have their civil war(going on now),They are radicals who kill each other more than our Troops.Thats the mentality they are born with.God does not appreciate the fact that more people have been killed in his name then all wars. To the guy who posted a lack of sensitivity towards "war crimes" INOCCENT until proven guilty. You may have been a fobbit (a Troop that has never left his camp) so your opinon doest count my. Son is a grunt and goes out on patrol and missions 6 days a week. Other than the rape.if it is true may the hang from a rope. But the others i can understand the horror it must be to watch people die,not know when u might be next, i understand and think they should be able to claim stress.because that is all it was if in fact they did that. Now before i get all the hateful posts i ask you this whats your solution and what do u do in life that helps America be a better place??? Finally it is sinking in, sans pundits and talking heads lets give the public credit for seeing and listening to the man himself and figuring out that something isn’t quite right. If Victor thinks the failure is not of substance, but of style that’s Bush’s fault through and through. Diabolical? Depends on how you define diabolical, if the president and his minions deceive and lie, the consequences of which land us in a quagmire in Iraq and get 2500 Americans and 60,000 Iraqis killed then yes he is diabolical and those that don’t think so need to find a moral compass. Victor is doing his part to spread the great conservative doublethink when he refers to the Left. I proudly stand on the left, its where the center used to be before people like Victor moved so far right they think the Bill of Rights is a luxury that we can no longer afford, Vic must think that retired General John Batiste is Castro’s cousin, Donald Rumsfeld is still at the helm of the Department of Defense, which is absolutely outrageous. God help us if Georgie ever does sink his inept claws into social security. And the loyal republican congress allows it to go on. It's brutally clear what's going on and at the expense of the American working class.

Please becareful about what you post on a public board.

WHERE IS YOUR HATE FOR THE Terrorist...

If we as a species are ever going to solve our conflicts, we must give up hate. This is the message of Christ. It is the same message of Buddah, who preceeded Christ by some 400 years. I find it sad that so many who claim to be Christians still hold onto hate.

    .

liberals voted for the war as well,so dont take the high n mighty road.

The President used a vote authorizing military force against those responsible for the attacks on 9/11 as a blank authorization to attack any country he chooses. It is a bit of a stretch to say "liverals voted for the war as well" based on this. Liberals in Congress have voted to authorize military expenditures. Were their votes supporting the war, or the troops? The answer could be spun either way.

As far as the "high and might road." I walk the path of a Shaman. A Shaman is a healer. It is not an easy path, as those who speak out against hate and violence are villified by those who still cling to hatred and fear as tactics by which they control the masses.

I encourage you to break free of hate, for it is written, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you..."

Well then Diane you will have no problem calling the “war in Iraq” illegal and join us in pushing for the impeachment of President Bush, because it’s the only way you kiddo is coming home. of course i wouldnt have a problem with that.I have been saying that since the begining.I cant figure out how a prez got a bj and was almost impeached and yet almost 3000 Troops have lost their lives and he still sits on the throne.u think i dont have a clue that the terror alert color codes wasnt a way to make Americans afraid to rally support fpr war.U see im a free thinker and look beyond whats told to me.But it still doesnt change my opinion for whats best for my Son...... imagine going to boot camp/31b training and less than 3 months later hes off to iraq. he turned 19 there. Is that a goverment with much love for my son O Hell NO.......... but ya see my son joined not because of 911 or any other political bs he joined because he felt guilty that others were dying and he was here safe with no worries. He didnt feel that was right. In His mind him being there made a diffrence because one more body added to the war lottery of death meant a little less chance for others on the odds of being killed. It goes back to no greater love hath no man that he lay down his life for others. He could have went to college on a scholarship and started his life but thats not how he rolls. He thinkls we are invaders on their land as well. But ya c noone gets to pick where they go and what they do.But he is a strong athlete who felt a need to contribute to helping his fellow US mankind stay alive while being forced over there.I appolagize if im not smart enough i have no degree to brag on his father and i are average blu collar workers at ups so if i talk"dumbing down" it reflects my lack of college i suppose.I do however read all i can so yes i fel justified in writing my opinion.ps why is my name harsh... blame my momma not me.

    Comment by Diane — August 27, 2006 @ 12:50 pm

"The Way of the Shaman" by Dr. Harner. Drumming is a common method among Native American trives of achieving the altered state of consciousness necessary to undertake a shamanic journey. Achieving that state without drumming is the exception, rather than the rule. And, if you read my post carefully, you'll note I never said drumming was necessary, just that I am able to undertake such journeys without drumming.

There is a tremendous amount of resources about shamanism on the internet. I suggest you do a bit of research before continuing this debate.

    Comment by Diane — August 27, 2006 @ 2:55 pm

Diane, For myself, I've written my Senators and my Congressman protesting the war. I've shared my views on this and other boards. I participated in my first ever anti-war protest last January by flying from California to D.C. to play "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes for Casey Sheehan and all the fallen troops while Bush was giving his "State of the Union" address.

I teach junior high kids to think and question; to not take the word of someone at face value merely because he or she is in a position of authority, but to do their own research and look up primary sources.

I've also spent the past 4 years studying law, with an emphasis in employment and labor law, and in international human rights. I expect to be working in one of those fields once I pass the Bar.

Now, the same question to you: What do you do to help the country?

  407. WORFEUS Says:

One more thing on the North Korea Iran nuking us scenario Diane.

Don't you find it just a little silly, for you to be in here crying about North Korea nuking us, when they've already come out in open defiance of international agreement to not develop nuclear weapons, and TOLD US, POINT BLANK, that not only are they making them, they HAVE THEM, and they're now TESTING THEM, while you're busy supporting a war where we're blowing the crap out of a country that would be lucky to produce a working microwave, much less a nuclear weapon?

    I mean, doesn't that strike you as a little, hmmm...gee.. I don't.....STUPID maybe?

There you go, disrespecting me again. As I said earlier, I don't have a medicine bag...no ruby slippers either. Just Runes. I find them useful on occasions, like the last time I grew tired of your derision. Remember that? (It was the Rune Ken, reversed) You responded with the "Ooogah Boogah."

So, with your oooga booga coming back at me, I guess you haven't learned from that last message. I thought I'd ask the Universe for its message to you this time:

    Mann - reversed.

You are seeking isolation from others, especially your family. You can expect no assistance from others....Your selfishness and greed has led to loneliness. You have made many enemies and they are ready to move against you.

You do have a choice, Mighty A. You can continue to live in fear and hate, or you can let it go and walk a different path.

  412. WORFEUS Says:

Last thing I'll say for now as I don't want to overpost and obviously I can't find anyone from the other dugout who can keep up.

I'm gonna answer a question for you that I asked, but you obviously can't answer.

The reason George W. Bush is doing NOTHING about North Korea, is because there is now, thanks to his cowboy shoot first ask questions later diplomacy in dealing with weaker, smaller nations, there is nothing he can do.

He shot his wad early. He squandered his diplomatic credibility when he went riding roughshot into Iraq without being willing to advance current diplomatic efforts. Doing so, he proclaimed Iraq a immediate threat with weapons of mass destruction, which necessitated our immediate aggression.

Then, Kim Jong Il came out, on global television, and laughed in the Presidents face, and said "you went into Iraq because you thought they might have WMD? Well guess what. We're TELLING YOU we have WMD and DARING YOU to do something about it".

And what did Bush do? Nothing. Cause he already shot his wad.

Thats what happened, and thats what the history books (or stone tablets depending on how this works out) well record it, regardless of how much feel good bullshit you people are able to fill yourselves with on a daily basis.

Used to be, back in the good old days, I could come into a place like this and not worry that the guy I was talking to is really an undercover federal agent, monitoring my comments like the KGB looking for subversive activity and monitoring opponents of the war.

    Wanna go on?

  428. bones Says:

Note asshat skipped right over the child killing, torture, murder, rendition, killing innocents and went right to "violations of my civil rights". See told you - pure evil, doesn't want to have to defend child murder but will defend taping my phone.....

  429. bones Says:

Hey, here's a very good example of your god violating American Civil rights that have nothing to do with tapping phones:

Still more unchecked powers for the Bush administration
This article from the San Francisco Chronicle details the truly amazing story of two U.S. citizens -- a 45-year old resident of the San Francisco area and his 18-year old son -- who, after travelling to Pakistan, have been barred by the Bush administration from re-entering the country. They have not been charged with any crime, and no court has ordered or even authorized this denial of entry. The administration is just unilaterally prohibiting these two Americans from re-entering their country.

  430. bones Says:

What, no response asshat, how abou this then:

Digby insightfully examines the disturbing arrest (disturbing, that is, for those who believe in the First Amendment) of New York resident Javed Iqbal for re-broadcasting a television channel owned by Hezbollah -- something the Bush administration intends to equate with "providing material support for terrorism."

  431. bones Says:

What ass, no response , well explain this:

What powers do Bush supporters think the Federal Government should not have against U.S. citizens, if any? To judge by this Editorial from National Review -- which tells us that we are "in the early stages of a long war"; advocates lengthy periods of "preventive detention" of U.S. citizens without any charges being brought; and rails against what it calls "hypothetical privacy violations" (such as the Government listening in on your calls without any warrants) -- the answer is "none."

  432. bones Says:

That's why evil people must be identified and shunned as evil, not "politically" of a different point of view, or "philosophically" different but just plain evil. Even if you leapfrog over the fact that MA has and does want to kill innocent men, women, and children and rationalize that tapping your phone is just a "politically" different view and doesn't denote "evil", consider:

"But there's no need to worry. The Bush administration only intends to use these extraordinary, unchecked powers for your own good -- to protect you. That's why all of this yammering about the need for oversight or checks is just shrill paranoia. Placing blind trust and faith in the Goodness of our leaders to exercise powers against us in secret and with no oversight is the bedrock principle on which this country was founded. Only someone who hates this country could be against all of that."

  433. mighty aphrodite Says:

Boner - You sound JUST like Adolph Hitler and Josef Stalin rolled into ONE. People who disagree with the intelligensia = EVIL. You are one sick S*B ....WHICH of YOUR civil rights have been stolen? Gosh, I guess you and Wartfus must not pose much of a threat to the nation - you're still here....

  434. bones Says:

So as I suspected you evil witch you have NOTHING to contribute to the fact that EVERY EXAMPLE ABOVE IS ILLEGAL AND DAMAGES AMERICANS and you don't care - see that's the point EVIL WITCH.

  435. bones Says:

And your last comment was just stupid, but I'll leave you with one more example of how violating civil rights hurts Americans, not that you and satan will care but for completeness sake:

The ‘cloaked draft(s)’ or ‘back-door draft(s)’ seem to be new, but it reality are actually in keeping with a long line of practices the United States government has been using since the Anglo-American occupation of Iraq started in 2003. These practices include systematically barring U.S. troops in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army from leaving the proximity or near proximities of Iraq or Afghanistan, called ‘stop loss orders’ and/or prolonging military tours of duty beyond what was established/understood/promised to or with American servicemen and/or assigning multiple/consecutive military tours of duty and/or obstructing/delaying the retirement of American servicemen. These compulsory orders for involuntary duty

  436. mighty aphrodite Says:

Boner- Let me clarify - Are you NOW saying your Civil rights have NOT been stolen from you? Your "argument" (HA!) appears as firm as shifting sand.....

  437. WORFEUS Says:

You sound JUST like Adolph Hitler and Josef Stalin rolled into ONE. People who disagree with the intelligensia = EVIL.

    Comment by mighty aphrodite — August 27, 2006 @ 5:57 pm

Well lets examine that statement for a moment. Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin. Two interesting choices.

Adolf Hitler and Joe Stalin "killed" people they didn't agree with.

The right wing is currently busy "killing" people they don't agree with.

We're just pointing it out in a blog.

How does that equate us to Hitler and Stalin again?

  438. WORFEUS Says:

Please explain MA why you equate the commonwealth to the rulers?

Wouldn't it be more apt to compare us private citizens who have no power or authority with the German citizens who also had no power or authority over Hitler?

It seems odd that you guys have turned to calling us Hitler, when none of us holds office, or weilds any jurisdictional power over any county, court or province.

Could it be after being so accuately compared to the rise of the Third Reich that the new right wing talking points are now simply "I know you are but what am I"?

  439. bones Says:

Yes you evil son of satan MY FRICKING CIVIL RIGHTS HAVE BEEN STOLEN. You condone this and as such are an enemy of the United States. I happen to also be willing to call you what you really are a shell of a pseudohuman inhabited by evil.

  440. bones Says:

Again note mighty asshat CAN'T justify her support of torture, rape,, killing so picks "civil rights" violations to defend. despite #s 477, 478, 479, 480, 483, and the phone tapping issue this evil piece of filth CAN'T defend even one action and reverts to calling me Hitler and Stalin. Evil can't defend evil, it stands as what it is - MA you are filth and evil and that's why i call you what you are. you will not put perfume on your purulent ass and call it beauty here.

  441. WORFEUS Says:

Well MA, your clocks about as clean as I can get it.

Besides, you're way too slow on the draw for my taste.

    ,..........yawn......

I'll look for you later in the funny pages.

Apparently being upable to defeat me in open debate, MA or one of her thugs has decided to attempt to impersonate me, apparently hoping to make a comment or statement to get me banned. Don't worry lamebrain, whoever you are. TP has our IP addresses. Also they have our email addresses. They will be able to easily discern your bogus imposter posts, and besides, do you actually think you're capable of impersonating me in the grammatical sense?

I trust my friends in here will know when its me, and know when its you.

And don't worry. I won't be suckered into taking up more than this one post to refute one of your bogus misrepresentations, unless it is appended to another post. But I will email TP letting them know someone is trying to impersonate me, and identfiying each and everyone of your bogus posts.

Bones, while I agree with much of what you say, I do ask that you not use the phrase "evil witch." Contemporary witches work in harmony with nature, and nature is neither good nor evil. Nature is cycles of life, growth, decay and death. And from death, new life springs forth. The phrase "evil witch" brings to mind the Hollywood "Wizard of Oz" stereotype.

    *****

Mighty A - you're a lawyer and you don't know about the civil rights violations of the Bush Administration? Check out the latest statement by the ABA for crying out loud!!!!!

Then you might want to read the essay by John Dunne, "No man is an Island..." If you have half a brain (I realize, I may be assuming too much here) you would know that when the Government takes away the civil rights from one of us, it takes them away from all of us. NO ONE here can say with absolute certainty that the NSA is not monitoring them, without probable cause, without a warrant. We don't even know for sure if the Government is abiding by the judge's permanent injunction.

And our Government picked up and held a United States citizen for some 3 years without charges being filed, merely by the Executive Branch's declaration that he was an "enemy combatant." Tell me, Ms. Defense Attorney, which of his civil rights were violated those three years? None? Then it's perfectly ok to hold you indefinitely, as long as the Executive Branch declares you to be an enemy combatant.

Mann - Reversed. It suits you well.

  449. bones Says:

No mighty ass you are a creation of your own self centered greed racism and filth. You are the dipshit you have created in your own dark heart and you are an evil piece of crap.

  450. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Come on, Mighty A, you claim to be a defense attorney. Answer the questions about civil rights. They're in your field of expertise. You should be able to knock those off in less than 60 seconds, if you're really a defense attorney.

No shifting subjects to international law now, not in the middle of a class on civil rights. We'll get to international law later. Now, back to the topic at hand: Civil rights and "enemy combatants."

Or are you begging the question because you are a complete fraud, not an attorney at all?

oh, and "People who assume to know more of what was said than was said - are typically stupid." I never said I was a witch/warlock, white or otherwise.

  451. bones Says:

And asshat you can't ask questions here till you start answering some. i sincerly doubt you're an attorney, and if you are then it says loads about the pithetic state of the law in this country, inbred evil pieces of crap stealing and persecuting honest people, yeah like that's justice.

  452. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Bones, thanks for not equating Mighty A with witches in your above post. AS Sharon says, Blessings....we need them.

  453. bones Says:

So asshat, you still have not even attempted to address the civil rights violations in posts 477, 478, 479, 480, 483. So supposedly you are an attorney and know NOTHING about civil rights. So I'll give you another way people are being hurt by BUSHCO, one that is near and dear to your black pathetic heart, dollars"

The National Priorities Project has a real eye-opening website that calculates the cost of the War in Iraq and them compares it to what we could do with that money.

As a resident of California, here’s what they say we could be doing:

Taxpayers in California will pay $40.3 billion for the cost of war in Iraq. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:

16,733,296 People with Health Care or
    627,551 Elementary School Teachers or
4,767,634 Head Start Places for Children or
25,168,314 Children with Health Care or
    235,246 Affordable Housing Units or
    4,390 New Elementary Schools or
7,685,109 Scholarships for University Students or
616,017 Music and Arts Teachers or
    741,482 Public Safety Officers or
117,140,845 Homes with Renewable Electricity or
    601,790 Port Container Inspectors

    Defend that idiot.

  454. Briseadh na Faire Says:

616,017 Music and Arts Teachers...I teach in California. Up until last year I taught music. My program was axed due to the budget.

Hey there, Mighty A?! Even a Google search doesn't take this long! If you don't answer a simple question about civil rights, how can we believe you're a defense attorney? People here might begin calling you Mighty Afraudite...

  455. bones Says:

Briseadh, sorry for the laid off thing, but it proves Bush hurts everyday Americans thoughtlessly. But there's a better name for mighty asshat, if you've seen my posts she is condoning killing innocents, nuclear attacks on population centers, and in one specific case she thought it was ok to tie an Iraqi General in a sleeping bag and beat him to death. She is below contempt. Therefore the campaign to label her what she really is. She isn't just a righty, she's a despicable excuse for a subhuman.

  456. Zooey Says:

Stop asking Mighty Ass to prove it's a lawyer, because it's not. I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but my life for the last 13 years has been saturated with lawyers.

I know great lawyers, good lawyers, lawyers who mean well, and "who took the bar exam for tht idiot" lawyers.

Every single one of them could recite the answer to that civil rights question while in a coma. Every lawyer I know speaks in a very deliberate manner, especially defense attorneys. They may believe a certain way, but it is not coming out in a public forum.

Mighty Asshat is not a lawyer.

  457. Zooey Says:

    Mighty Aphrodite,

Do not bother responding to my comment. There is nothing you can possibly say to me, and I will not respond to it.

    Thanks for playing.

  458. Briseadh na Faire Says:

A check on the IP addresses would lend credence to that theory. Unfortunately, we are unable to do that.

No, Mighty Cut and Run, General Batiste's record should be proof enough that your statement is pure BS, as usual. But even if it were true, I think the "former Generals who HATE WAR" ticket would be far worthier than the "Chickenhawks who love war, as long as they and their families aren't involved." group currently occupying the White House and key positions within it.

  463. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Lora, good to hear from you again! I'm tempted to look up the relevant codes and refer Mighty A to the State Attorney General for fraudulently representing herself to be an attorney. Attorneys are Officers of the Court, so they take this kind of thing rather seriously.

If she's not a member ot the State Bar, it wouldn't go to the Bar for discipline. Which is too bad. My Professional Responsibility professor is the head of the State Bar. He LOVES to go after unethical attorneys, especially those who bring discredit upon the profession. Mighty A, with her ooooga boooga and repeated name-calling of other posters would certainly qualify as one he would be pleased to disbar.

I hope all is well with you, Lora.

    Comment by the notso-mighty aphrodite — August 27, 2006 @ 8:08 pm

Maybe you just want to be an attorney?

Because you're arguing a case no one ever made.

I merely suggested the superfluousness of comparing the general population with world leaders.

It would seem an attorney would use more applicable comparisons. Like maybe you could compare us with the German people who lived outside of Buchenwald. At least it would be a more correct representation.

For example, if you were describing the perpetrator of a speeding offense, and compare say to a Police Officer, the Defense would likely point out that a Police Officer has authority, and can speed legally as part of executing his authority.

Then the Judge would laugh, the courtroom would laugh at you, and the Judge might advise you to keep your analogies relevant.

If this is over your head, just lemme know, and I'll dumb it down even more.

  465. WORFEUS Says:

    Oh and BTW.

The Wartfus thing? I don't get it. I've asked a few friends and they don't seem to get it either.

Its just it doesn't mean anything. Now if you said Wart4us, well, at least that would mean something. But Wartfus?

    Whats a Wartfus?

    I'd try Whore-forus, or Bore-eus.

These at least mean something and you might get a chuckle out of someone.

    Hope this helps.

  471. Sgt Rock Says:

Once more, by the numbers!...MG John Batiste (US Army ret.) is a genuine American Hero! Rather than cow-tow to Rummy in order to get a promised third star, he resigned his commission so that he could speak the TRUTH! Under his command, the 1st Infantry Division had taken control of Samarra, restored order and provided a great deal of security for the civilian population. Then the Big Red One was ordered to move out and redeploy. Samarra again fell into anarchy; it has had to be retaken over and again. MG Batiste understood that his successful tactics were being undercut by DoD Sec'y Rumsfeld. Moreover, though his FIRST responsibility is to the MISSION, his PRIMARY responsibility is to the men under his command to keep them ALIVE! As General Patton once said, "It's NOT your duty to die for your country; it's the other son-of-a-bitch's duty to die for HIS country!"

One other thing about all your rants about 'patriotism': those of us combat veterans who have been awarded medals for valor have the eternal gratitude of the men whose lives we may have helped save; even though some of you would denigrate our service because we now have the temerity to speak out against an unjust war and the top-down FUBAR tactics that cause even more unneccessary losses of our precious young men and women soldiers.

"No Mission Too Difficult! No Sacrifice Too Great! DUTY FIRST!"---'Big Red One' motto (but we weren't stupid about it!)

I'm in Iraq right now have been for 8 months in two different regions Nineveh (Mosul) and Anbar (Ramadi). These good news stories they keep trying to blast over the bad news stories are the exception not the rule. We kill 1 insurgent, literally, 3 more come from around the corner and drag the body away. They are going to use the military Information Operations network (actual military doctrine, look it up) on the American people as we gradually slide out to cover up the fact things are bad and only getting worse. The fact is we cant win the public because we can't repair the stuff we damaged because the situation is too volatile. From over here it looks like we make gradual gains and then we slide backward farther than we moved forward. We could be doing this for years. This why if the Iraqis wanted to be free they should have done it themselves, it should not have been done by an occupying army.

  476. WORFEUS Says:

As far as I can recall, all dictatorial regimes go after education first. Academicians (teachers) are silenced and the State (in this case, read Federal) Government takes control inorder to indoctrinate the children. Recall that one of this Administration's first programs was No Child Left Behind, which was the greatest Federal intrusion into education ever in the history of this country. And No Child Left Behind's mandates are statistically impossible to attain, thus assuring a Federal takeover of every public school.

Well I never called you that.

Of course, since you are self proclaiming yourself as white trash, I might point out that this moniker has little to do with your tenure at UPS.

I would look to your advocating the torturing other human beings and Genocide to start.

Those are definately white trash priniciples, and may have something to do with your appointment to that position.

    Yes they ARE real troops.

And what do you think is going to happen to some of these "real troops" when they get captured by the enemy when self professed white trash like yourself are back here at home busy advocating we torture these people?

    Huh?

Does your trailer park reichstag manual look that far down the road sister? Can you think that far down the road?

Diane does not understand that actions have consequences: Nuke North Korea, North Korea Nukes Japan. China Nukes you. Everyone starts nuking everyone and suddenly, wow, there aren't any people anymore. Nukes as weapons are worthless, they are far too powerful for any rational human being to choose to use them, which is why the Neocons are all in favour of their frequent deployment. Sane people generally have more sense.

What kind of good all american card carry right wing Bush supporter becomes a "Defense" attorney?

Now if you had said you were an Assistant District Attorney or or something, I'd say sure. that makes sense. But a Defense Attorney? What kind of client would you be willing to defend? You are an advocate for the state in here, but you oppose the state in your daily practice?

    I'm finding that a stretch.

But like I said yesterday, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

You know it Bruce. For that matter if we dropped a nuke in Iran the repercussions could be devastating. Russia would not sit still for a nuke detonated that close to their borders, nor would they allow us to take out their oil reserves.

Unfortunately people like Diane are too much like Bush. Full of a lot of "Feel Good" politics and "tough talk" which is apparently the result of watching to many Elliot Ness and the Untouchables reruns.

International relations with nuclear powers tends to be a bit more tedious.

And patience is not apparently among the virtues of the new reich wing.

At the same time if torturing lead to saving the lives of 911 and the countless other attacks of innocent people. And the ones that it would be needed for are certainly not innocent as the civilians they randomly and specificly attack. Its an ugly world im going by the lesser of the 2 evils.Perhaps Im wrong but its what i believe.5 And what do you think is going to happen to some of these “real troops” when they get captured by the enemy when self professed white trash like yourself are back here at home busy advocating we torture these people?Comment byWORFEUS Again you put words in my mouth why is it you want me to sound like I would do that.Get off you pompous horse and quit twisting my words!
SUGGESTING THAT THE TROOPS BE REMOVED FROM IRAQ IMMEDIATELY is all we can do but it hasnt happened you live in a fantasy world of what ifs and the cold hard truth is we are the and Troops are dying 3 a day thats real your suggestions arent any helpnor do they change the real fact. So at this point i have to change adapt and overcome. You can say all you want about me.I wont be back i posted my statement and that all i came to do and now i have done that. I wish you all a good life!

That's only the "lucky" ones. The ones who survive, well, perhaps you ought to go visit Iraq and see the grotesque deformities being birthed over there, as a direct result of radiation poisoning (from depleted uranium). Now imagine the consequences of full on nuclear fallout. Perhaps you should also visit some of the descendents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

You SERIOUSLY don't understand why people are being mean to you? After that? Get the hell outta here. If I were your son I'd be embarrassed beyond words.

Translation: Mighty Afraudite has no clue. A Criminal Defense attorney could knock off in a few seconds which rights were violated by the Executive Branch holding an United States Citizen for years without charges. Hint: they're found in the Constitution!

Mighty Afraudite took 18 hours and still avoided answering the question. She lacks the basic fundamental knowledge required of a defense attorney.

  507. WORFEUS Says:

    You know it Briseadh

Like I said, if she is a defense attorney, her clients would be better off propria persona. (representing themselves).

  508. Lora Says:

    Briseadh, Worfeus, etc.
While I have long doubted that Mighty Hypocrite has the brains to be an attorney and his/her inability to spell a word commonly used in the legal world like "breach" correctly certainly casts further doubts on his/her claims to this profession, in a way I can see him/her as a criminal defense attorney. After all, what he/she has basically been doing on various TP posts is defend criminals.

  509. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Braid Fair - Thank you for giving our viewers your Constitutional update. I am continually amazed how those who graduate from Matchbook University School of Law "with distinktion" try to impress others with a rote recitation of Constitutionally guaranteed rights. You may wish to impress us further with cited precedents.... You are a fine example for differentiating those "who do" and those "who talk about it".

To paraphrase Braid Fair: "She took 18 hours...blah,blah,blah....and I know this because I have NOOO life..." You poor little thing......

Woof and Braid - Rookies often refer to a client's self representation: propria persona. Seasoned veterans usually cut to the chase: in pro per....

  510. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Lora - How clever of you to expand your simple spelling/typo argument!!! God forbid you should ever need the services of a criminal defense attorney, but should such an awful day arrive, you'd be better served by someone who knows their way around a court room than a a rune tosser...

Most people fail to understand that exceptional defense attorneys demand the best of prosecutors, DA investigators and the police. Defense attorneys guard the rights of all the people.

  511. Lora Says:

    Mighty Hypocrite,
I realize we, including myself, all make typos. When a poster here misspells a word once, I am more than willing to give that person the benefit of the doubt and view it as a typo. However, when a person consistenly misspells words like "breach" and "foment" as "breech" and "fulment" (your versions of the two words), even after being told by others that they are errors, I have no choice but to conclude that that person, such as yourself, simply doesn't know how to spell them. It is particularly suspicious that a so-called attorney can't spell a word like "breach" as in "breach of contract." Sorry, dear, your excuse holds no water.
I doubt if I will ever need a criminal attorney. But if I do, you can be sure I will not hire one out of San Diego, just to be safe.

As for calling me a "rookie"?

A "rookie" imples a novice at a given profession or skill.

I can't speak for Briseadh but I am not an attorney so I can't be described as a "rookie" as you infer.

As for Latin, I know a little from my study of the Vulgate when I was in school, thats all.

Yes, Mighty Afraudite, I am sure the readers here can tell the difference between myself and you. You talk a great deal about how you are a Defense Attorney in a successful private practice in the State of California. Yet you cannot even cite basic civil rights every criminal defense attorney should know by rote.

I don't toss my runes. I draw them sight unseen out of a pouch. The accuracy of that method has been uncanny, but then, they were dedicated on the winter solstice in the ancient ways.

Defense attorneys guard the rights of all the people.
    Comment by mighty aphrodite — August 28, 2006 @ 6:57 pm

True. And Defense Attorneys can articulate those rights: another skill that seems to be beyond your grasp.

  515. Lora Says:

Some of us have been a bit off topic. So to get back on it totally, Mighty Cut-and-Run Troll claims to respect the military and that "Defense attorneys guard the rights of all the people," yet he/she slimes even highly decorated generals who don't agree with Bushevik policy (created, by the way, mostly by chickenhawks with no battlefield experience) and certainly does not recognize their Constitutional rights to free speech. A Mighty Hypocrite, indeed!

  516. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Worfeus - I am but a law school graduate, pending the results of the State Bar. However, in law school, we would use the term in pro per instead of the full Latin. I wonder which episodes of L.A. Law Mighty Afraudite draws upon for her vast knowledge of the legal profession....

Quite frankly, I am tired of her passing herself off as a lawyer. That which she spews is not the law, but so much dung. If only it were dung, for then we could fertilize a garden. But alas, tis dung of the mind, the product of ill-temper and irritable bowel served up for our reading discomfort. If it were a rabid dog, we could shoot it, and society would thank us. But being neither rabid, nor dog, we must suffer it to live, and by its life we shall suffer. Yet there is good in this. For by our suffering her discontent, we recognize all the sweeter the beauty of ones called Sharon, Zooey and Lora, who have also posted here of late, and given grace and humor to these pages.

Rant on, Mighty Afraudite! I say, Rant on! For thy ill temper and fecund posts do provide us with and endless source of humor at thy expense! But for me, I will pity thee. For even a rat does not deserve a life swimming in the sewers.

  517. WORFEUS Says:

Oh I knew she was correct about the short version. I am not in the legal profession so like I said my only knowledge of Latin comes from the Vulgate. The Vulgate was written in the formal Latin so thats how I remember it.

Thats cool your a law school graduate. Good luck on the Bar. As for MA, she may be an attorney I don't know, but if she is she musn't be a very good one.

    Comment by Diane — August 28, 2006 @ 1:58 pm

Diane, what goes around comes around. If you support torture in any circumstance, you support the torture of you own son and any of our servicemen and women. You have told the Iraqis that our troops cannot fire first, making it easier for them to ambush and capture our young men and women. And now they can say, "See, here is the mother of an American serviceman. She supports torture. If the mother of an American soldier supports torture of our people, then why should we not return the favor?"

If you are the mother of a serviceman, your lack of understanding is beyond pale. Please, please stay off public forums, for your son's sake, if for no one else's!

  520. Honesty Says:

Why does anyone really think that Ronald Dumsfeld should or would be fired? That takes into account the assumption that Bush got something other than what he or uncle Dick were expecting things that normal people would expect from the funnyman in the pentagon.

The fact is everything is going exactly according to plan. Iraq decimated, on the brink or already in Civil war. Anyone remember divide and conquer before? Conquer the "oil" that is? A country which had nothing to do with terrorism has been wiped off the map. It is our 51st State and is the greatest reason why we are there for good many decades to come. How else otherwise are the chickenhawks going to keep talking terrorism nonsense into this nation's psyche and continue to scare the Rush Bimbo crowds?

As long as the turm oil continues they'll have enough excuses to continue to decimate the US constitution.

Palllllleeeeezzzz General.... Don't you know that they've already succeeded in their sick and perverted plans? The Supreme Court has become ultra right wing for decades to come...!

Who says The Neocons and preznit Dick are not successful? Think again.

  521. WORFEUS Says:

Remember Jessica Lynch? The women they said was captured after a fierce fire fight, where she killed several Iraqi soldiers before running out of ammo and being taken prisoner? The one who they said was beaten and even raped by the Iraqi's? Remember her?

Then later we found out her gun jammed and she was injured and just lying on the ground. We found that out from HER. Not our government.

Well the Iraqi's didn't do ANY of that stuff to her. In fact, they gave her specialists who she credits with not only saving her life but limbs too. She got a special bed and one of the only 2 nurses on the floor personally assigned. She said they even SANG to her to make her feel at home.

Now I ask you. Does anyone doubt the Iraqi's treatment of her would be much less hospitable if they knew that we were going to torture, beat and even rape their people who WE take prisoner on the battlefield?

    Use your head Diane.

You torture them. Then they'll torture you. Thats why Jesus told you that whole do unto others thingy.

I think they have good messages and agree with the posters today. A bully never proves any point other than he is in fact a bully. A good question is asked and the posts stop.

    Who's "you guys"?

I'm a voter just like you pal, nothing more. I am not associated with any party, and when this lunatics out of office and someone with half a brains in I'm going to get drunk, screw women and make money. Not necessarily in that order.

If you need someone to "coax" you into seeing what a rube the country is goosestepping behind as we kill tens of thousands of people then maybe you just don't want to see.

You should try the Mormons. They'll cater to your need to be persuaded.

Once again pinhead, I don't "represent the Democrats".

    I don't "represent" anyone.

    I represent myself.

Don't like me? Great. Don't read my posts Einstein. No ones twisting you arm.

    I’ll look for answers elsewhere.

    Thank God.

  543. WORFEUS Says:

And one more time for the pinhead who doesn't seem to get it.

    Stop making new terrorists stupid.

    Here.

    Let me say it again.

    STOP MAKING NEW TERRORISTS STUPID.

When you can grasp one simple coherent concept, I'll feed you some more.

  544. WORFEUS Says:

    Can anyone help me?

    I'm gonna say no.

  545. TomPaine Says:

I care about the terrorists, as a matter of fact I'm sure I've killed more "terrorists" than you "MIKE". If that's what you call people who are fighting to chase occupiers from their country. We dont like to admit it but that is who is planting the IEDs and shooting Americans in Iraq. An insurgency equivalent to the insurgency that was inspired by my namesake in the latter parts of the 18th century on a large British colony that wanted its occupiers to leave so the rich white men could get wealthier without being burdened by taxes. Lets not romanticize the Revolutionary War either. Or its different because that insurgency was manned by white people who were mostly Christians and Deists and therefore their actions are inherently noble? Whereas with brown people, Muslims, and/or Heretics their actions are inherently evil. There were no terrorists in Iraq before we got here. I dont care what FOX News says. Husseins megalomania would not have allowed for it. And on top of that SH and OBL despised each other. Have you ever seen two megalomaniacs try and conspire? It just wouldnt work.
And I do believe the US Government, the Administration, or whatever you want to call it was at the very least complicit in allowing the attacks to happen. If not more.

Iraq has become the NEW TRAINING GROUND for terrorists. The few foreign fighters who are here, come to learn Urban Combat in live fire scenarios. Those who live go back and tell their friends what they've learned, how to defeat the Americans. Anyone ever heard of RECONDO in VietNam? A school where your final test was an acutal recon behind enemy lines. If you survived you earned the RECONDO badge if you didnt well you didnt get the badge. Iraq is the insurgent/terrorist RECONDO school. A school that didn't exist before, and according to the President has no reason to exist now since he has admitted that every reason given for going into this shithole was WRONG.

You know Aly. a young man who is CURRENTLY serving in Iraq and who is FIGHTING this war just got threw explaining to you whats rREALLY GOING ON.

Yet you just come in like a fool, and post your right wing talking points and calling us, and HIM, chickenshits.

You just called a young man serving in Iraq a chickenshit cause he doesn't agree with you or your divine leader.

How does that make you feel?

Aly Zakerys comment about being thank-ful 1 day would have to depend on what side of the world you are on. It,s time to move on What do we gain by staying in a volitle country that doesn't want or appreciate us?We have laready made our point to the “Islamic fasicm” movement. Why doesn't our leaders get us out. In my opinion Bush has oils wells so the high prices have been favourable for him as well as Haliburton has made money for Cheney. How in the%$#$^ did they get an exclusive contract ( and produced shody equipment given to our military whoose a$$ is on the front)?? I think it was Bushs bfriend that was head of fema How did that happen? Everyone Bush gets in no time later and they are found to be fraudulent. Is Bush trying to keep his friends in key spots so he can have a hand in the goverment when he goes?If Bushs daughters even 1 was in perhaps i might have more faith in his decision to be there. All the money the prez n vprez make off of it (the war)must be hard to give up.If I could ask him 1 thing Id ask if he has a hard time sleeping at night when his pockets flow like a river with red blood money!
