Lots of comments from Ms. Halley directly to the president but only one reply from Bush. I wonder if George was experiencing another My Pet Goat moment.
Did Bush really say `Terrorists killed three thousand people, we had to go to war.’ Did he not just say that “no one” in the administration has linked 911 and Iraq?
So she had his attention and he “cried” with her. Well, we are past the point of crying, Mr. Bush.
Crying is something you should have done years ago when your hubris and arrogance directed your actions, but then you should have wiped your eyes and worked toward a solution of the horrific mess you made. That would be true contrition. But you are incapable of realizing your failures.
If Holley said everything she says she told him, I give her a lot of credit for her courage and her poise, as well as her coherent message.
But I don’t see W changing his mind or his behavior.
He is an arrogant person, a spoiled brat who never grew up or accepted responsibility for his reckless behavior; he is a liar, and a fool. Humility is not among his traits and without acknowledgement of one’s failures, there can be no true recompense.
We are stuck with him for two more years – the best we can do is remove his yes-men in the House and Senate and hope to survive until his term is expired.
There’s no point “discussing the pros and cons of the war.†Greg Sargent has more.

Didn’t Barbara Bush also make a similar statement..something to the effect of wasting her beautiful mind on body bags. [Yes here it is below.]
Now, I ask, if war and body bags are irrelevant to Bush, and the so called Elites, thinktank lightbulbs [40 watt] and the Krystolites of the Standard Weakly set,,then why should we be fighting wars at all? If Bush doesn’t care about Americans then surely he doesn’t care where Osama is, right??

A Beautiful Mind
Claim: Former First Lady Barbara Bush said of the war in Iraq: “Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”
Anyone who’s been watching Bush lately should have noticed that he’s always drunk and possibly insane. He can cry one minute at the death of soldier in Iraq and rattle sabers at Iraq in the next breath. His keepers better keep an eye on this loony loose cannon lest he Rapture us all.
Good for President Bush for talking to these family members of fallen warriors. Shows what a good man he is and what a great country this is. Few other leaders in the world would meet with “ordinary” citizens to discusss such matters, let alone have these citizens criticize them to their face. The fact that Dubya is willing to do so shows what a brave and compassionate leader he is.
Er…except that he sent the “fallen warriors” to die for no good reason in the first place and refuses to acknowledge his mistake out of stubborness, partisanship, and fear for his presidential legacy.
Other than the weakening of our national security, attacks on our constitutional democracy, fiscal mismanagement, disaster mismanagement, kickbacks to his corporate patrons, alientation of the rest of the world, and utter failure to do anything meaningful about climate change, Bush has done a heckuva job!
Give it a rest, Exley. You guys have gone to the well more than a few too many times on that hollier than thou phony-patriotism. It just gets sickening after a while because you don’t even seem to know the definition of patriotism.
The Republicans have no idiology, they are crazy people, and when you ask them to explain themselves they avoid the situation, and will continue on a muderous rampage the retarded and mentally ill of our society untill we, the intellengent people stop them and put them in thier place, which is powerlessness.
Sorry Jane…I was neither. I believe every word of what I wrote. Dubya is a good man and a good president.
But now on to these we agree on…Yes, I am HUGE Mets fan. Seven game winning streak. Back to back sweeps, including the supposedly powerful Cardinals (and that is with Pedro and Glavine out of the rotation). Second best record in all of baseball. It’s a good time to be a Mets fan.
You have no idea what just happened? You don’t even know what is going on? You don’t even know the point of the article? Do you even know what you just read?
#24….Hildi Halley’s husband, Army National Guard Capt. Patrick Damon, died June 15 in Afghanistan.
Are you saying that the the war in Afghanistan was fought for “no good reason.”
Y’know, I keep reading people’s comments on this site that one of the reasons they claim to oppose the liberation of Iraq is that it “diverted” resources from the war in Afghanistan…Well, is that a real reason for opposing the war in Iraq or is that just cover? Do you oppose our military operations in Afghanistan as well????
Exley is the slime I am talking about. Completely oblivious to reality. These people don’t belong to a political party, they can’t deal with anything other than watching sports, and can’t deal with anything as complex as politics, these people are retards, the lowly animal proves it has no grasp on reality at all.
Exley, I hadn’t had the pleasure of reading one of your posts before today (my loss, I’m sure), but I have to ask … are you of enlistment age? If so, there looking for more brave warriors every day, my friend.
We, as Liberals, have no competition at all. All we need to do is to keep the seamingly braindead individuals who somehow mindlessly hold jobs in our society, out of any position of control or influence so they will not cause a muderous mess in the world because they have no understanding of this dimension.
And, for the record, while her husband died in Afghanistan, she was criticizing Bush for both wars. As for Afghanistan, she told Bush “the US put the Taliban in power,” or words to that effect. As for Iraq, she pointed out that the president has acknowledged that we went into Iraq based on “erroneous” information. It appears to me that the president’s comment about not wanting to engage in a philosophical debate about the war applied to both.
#40…You are absolutely correct. She was not criticizing the President’s Iraq policy, but the war in Afghanistan, as well. That seemingly put her at odds with many of the posters on TP who claim that while they opposed the invasion of Iraq, they supported the invasion of Afghanistan.
Here’s an idea for you Exley, language is for people to understand each other, not for petty, emotionally insecure people to find petty faults so will make them feel stronger. If this were untrue, you would not even have the chance to correct me, because the fact is you know exactly what I ment. So it doesn’t even matter, only for a insecure, fault finding baby.
Back on topic,,,The only reason bull shit bush even talked to this poor lady is the up coming election…..Period…He’s is to evil and dense to do anything kind ever…..Ever. The party in power have a media blitz on and massive photo op’s….They want his numbers to spike…Gotta keep these war’s and profits coming in….For watchful christians may I add, beware of you’re anti christ he’s being medicated and handled to suit you’re ideals……Tear’s, Yah! sure you betcha……He’d shit pineapples if his guy’s told him it would help his causes……Get real folk’s stop drinking that damn kool aid….Blessings
Never has so much military and economic and diplomatic power been used so ineffectively. And if after all of this time, and all of this sacrifice, and all of this support, there is still no end in sight, then I say the time has come for the American people to turn to new leadership not tied to the mistakes and policies of the past.-Richard M. Nixon
BTW Exlax, you are a lowlife scumbag. When the draft is reinstated, I hope they get your sorry ass to Iraq and get it shot off.
Exley, it is obvious from the article that she spoke her mind about both wars. And that she wanted to discuss it with President Bush. But he declined to go into it, for whatever reasons.
A good public servant elected by the people, if he/she cared, would take the time to discuss whatever topic the grieving person had if he was sincere about talking with her. Instead, the President declines to discuss these things with people who have serious issues with his policy. He usually hides behind the facade of self-importance and self-righteousness.
Socially, as a civilian, maybe Mr. Bush is a “good person.” As a President, he has failed to show the public that he is, and his sinking reputation only proves it. Like a few other Presidents, Mr. Bush has forgotten that he is an elected official with a duty to the people – all the people – of this country, and therefore, needs to start listening and evolving as a human being to fulfill the role he presently has.
Otherwise, everyone here has the right to think President Bush is hypocritical, lying, egotistical Nazi. And that you are just giving lip-service to Bush because you are afraid you made a mistake by voting for the guy.
Tough loss tonight…We seem to have some troubles with the Phillies. But it was good to see Bannister back on mound. Say hello to Wayne for me. I am sure he would disagree with my posting too…But he is a fellow Mets fan. So, that makes everything A-OK.
Have a good weekend … And let’s take the next two from Philadelphia.
The President, to his great credit, listened to her and heard what she had to say. There were other families there who also wanted to talk to the President. He could not allow this one person to monopolize the meeting. So, he listened to what she had to say and then, in order to meet with the other families, politely suggested that they would not be able to resolve their differences at that time during that event. The other families said how much they appreciated the amount of time he spent with them. Seems like he handled the meeting with great tact and compassion. He is a good man.
See, Bush is the head Psychopath, so all these other Psychopaths come out of society to his feet because if a psychopath is president of the united states then it validates all these other psychopaths into believing they are credible intelligentsia of society.
[...] Now Exley is trying to persuade me that the President only skips over people with real issues with his policies because he has to be “polite” and move on to hearing other grieving people who might actually support him and his war. “Lack of time,” they call it. I call it “the President is not interested in listening to people and their criticism of him because it hurts his feelings, so he only fights verbal battles where there are no real battles to be fought.” [...]
This women kicked George Bush’s ass! This is not new. Every time George Bush attempts to confront someone 1-on-1 he gets his ass handed to him. Case in point, the presidential debate of 2000. Al Gore made Bush look like a numbnutz, which of course gave Bush a 5% bounce becase “Gore was so mean to him”.
George Bush never won a battle of wits in his life; just google this “Yoshi Tsrumi”.

August 25th, 2006 at 3:34 pmAnd Cindy can’t get an audience? George is hiding again.
August 25th, 2006 at 3:40 pmSo she had his attention and he “cried” with her. Well, we are past the point of crying, Mr. Bush.
