Brutal violence in Iraq.

Brutal violence in Iraq.

“A suicide car bombing and clashes between Shiite militia and Iraqi security forces left at least 50 people dead Monday in a brutal contradiction of the prime minister’s claim that bloodshed was decreasing…The dead included eight American soldiers, one of the U.S. military’s deadliest weekends in months.”

An astounding 100 Iraqis are being killed, on average, each day in Iraq. When will one of our intrepid reporters ask either Tony Snow and/or Bush how many Iraqis have to die before the U.S. will finally declare that a civil war is occurring in Iraq?

  2. Godfry Daniel says:

Republican spin: “Just because all those people and soldiers were killed doesn’t mean they’re dead! Besides, it’s just numbers…”

  3. Badmoodman says:

I bet ya those eight American military that were killed were smothered to death by an overabundance of flowers. Either that or gorged on chocolate truffles bestowed upon them.

  4. Publius says:

It’s no wonder that Bush and company don’t care all that much about the civilians and soldiers dying in Iraq — the vast majority of the administration have never served in a combat situation. I think they should be required to spend a week in the life of a typical soldier. It would be amazing how fast they would come up with a way to save face and pull the troops out.

The American Death toll in iraq is nearing the american deathtoll on 9/11. has any of the american lives been lost for a good cause? Have we done ANY good in iraq or for the middle east? have we prevented more deaths or created more?

The National Priorities Project has a real eye-opening website that calculates the cost of the War in Iraq and them compares it to what we could do with that money.

I motion we the people send dumbya, Darth cheney & Rummy over to Iraq for the duration of dumbya’s term. We also wish toask Phaux News to send Bill O’Liely, Michelle Malkin & (M)ann Coulter over to cover them for the duration.

    All in favor, say AYE!

  9. Rockey Vacarella says:

“The American Death toll in iraq is nearing the american deathtoll on 9/11.” – - Do not, do not, do not conflate 9/11 with Iraq in any way, shape, or inference. The actual number of war dead is over 2900 but that includes what I felt was the right war – in Afghanistan. So yes, a small portion of those killed were for a righteous cause but unfortunately their sacrifice is being squandered away by an administration in disarray. (You can choose the Afghanis or ours.)

nice site #8 everybody go there

  11. Dave von Ebers says:

Rocky, I understand your point, but comparing the American death toll in Iraq to the number of people lost on 9/11 does not necessarily conflate Iraq and 9/11. The point is, the administration mislead or lied us into war with Iraq in part because of a non-existent link between Iraq and 9/11. Now, we’ve thrown away almost as many American lives in Iraq as the extremists killed on 9/11, for absolutely NO justifiable purpose. What a pathetic insult to our troops, to those who died on 9/11, and to the whole country … all the more so because the job was never finished in Afghanistan and Osama is still on the run.

Not to threadjack, but here’s a funny cartoon from Tom Tommorrow. Funny till we find out next year it’s all completely TRUE!

  15. Badmoodman says:

“…but comparing the American death toll in Iraq to the number of people lost on 9/11 does not necessarily conflate Iraq and 9/11.”
    - – To a flat-lined American public (of whom 40% don’t know who Karl Rove is) that goes about their lives with GAP commercial indifference, and will take as gospel anything they hear repeated often enough, 9/11 is quickly replacing the Titanic as the World’s Most Disastrous Metaphor.

  16. WaltTheMan says:

FAUX news should pay attention to the fact that CNN got on the map by reporting on location during the first Gulf War.

  17. Clyde the Ripper says:

What part of the Shitty militia is not Iraqi?
What part of the Iraqi security force is not Iraqi?
What part of the Shittys and the Iraqis war is not a civil war?
A civil war, by definition, is a war between opposing forces of one Nation.
What has Bushco accomplished in the last three years aside from screwing up the oil fields and killing Americans?
Before Bushco the Shittys, lead by Sadam, killed Iraqis.
Before Bushco the Iraqis killed Shittys.
After Sadam the Shittys are killing Iraqis and KILLING AMERICANS.
After Sadam the Iraqis are killing Shittys and KILLING AMERICANS.
There is one of two approaches the US can legitamitely take, after the dethronement of Queen George the Dumb: (1) Get the Hell out and stay out; (2) Get the Hell in and clean up the mess in 90 days or less by taking the fight, and fighters, out of both sides until they won’t even fight with their wives, and then get the Hell out.

Does anyone know if George Bush has killed more innocent Iraqis than Saddam Hussein?

I think I’ve decided that the real axis of evil goes thru the Oval Office, to the Veeps/Creeps palace to the SecDef (SecretlyDefecating)

  21. g says:

the amount of wounded troops in iraq is really sad. its a great thing that we could save all these peoples lives but we need to change our thought that the cost of war is not only the amount of troops that die but the amount of troops that sacrificed their lives and their bodies/minds.

  24. Tobey Tall says:

Distrust of Washington in all of the Iraqi factions has robbed the US of what it believed was an easily won regional trump card: control of Baghdad. Iraq is a democracy in name only. The elected Parliament doesn’t function and, even though they mouth support for the niceties of the democratic process, it is hard not to conclude that Iraqi leaders have more faith in achieving their goals by letting the violence run than by taking part in any US-managed national dialogue.

The dynamic has changed. Sunnis who campaigned for US forces to leave Iraq now insist they remain here to protect the Sunnis because the Shiite majority has a taste for blood.

Shiites who welcomed the Americans now declare the US to be an enemy bent on robbing them of their long-held dream of controlling the country.

  25. Tobey Tall says:

The two sides are dug in for the long haul. On one side, Sunni insurgency cells that now show great unity and common purpose have defeated a determined US counterinsurgency push to divide them.

On the other side, the Shiites use the resources of the US-trained and funded Iraqi security forces. A senior figure in Sadr’s Mahdi Army told The Age: “We can get anything we need. We are a professional force … and after the victory for Hezbollah in Lebanon we feel stronger and more powerful because we have seen what a Shiite force can achieve.
“We will fight the Sunni till they have a clean heart towards Shiites. But we have to fight the American too, because they are with the Sunni against us.”

Excellent point. If only the mainstream media would take the time and trouble to make the same point and analysis to its readers, viewers, and listeners. Aparently the last thing they and the government want is to keep the citizens of this country as well-informed as possible.

  28. kdaves says:

    Shiite against Sunni.
    Sunni against Kurd.
    US against the French.
    Democrats against Republicans.
    Israel against non-Jews (especially Muslims).

Hopefully we will all wake up to the fact that the powers that be are afraid of our numbers and our ability to form coalitions through the internet and it is in their paranoid best interest to divide as much as possible.

    There are alternatives.

  29. WaltTheMan says:

    #30 – kdaves,
The powers that be do not want us to have those alternatives. I would guesss that is the sum of your message.

  30. WaltTheMan says:

    guesss SB guess, sorry.

  31. Jake says:

Don’t they (Bush and Maliki) realize that when they spew that false rhetoric about everything being ok and everything getting better, some terrorist is going to try to prove them wrong? They are emboldening the enemy and should be tried for such crimes.
