Cranston, RI mayor and U.S. Senate candidate Stephen P. Laffey, defending his homophobic “satirical” college writings. In one column, Laffey wrote, “I have never once seen a happy homosexual. … [T]he homosexuals I’ve seen are sickly and decrepit, their eyes devoid of life.”
If Laffey honestly sees nothing wrong with his hateful homophobic scribblings, that’s even more reason to keep him out of office than if he was actually aware of what he was doing.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:00 amHah ha, fun and games in a racist republican kind of way.
Although technically not racism as much as a$$holedom.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:00 amHe never saw a happy homosexual, who was he dating? If he had looked a little further than his circle of friends he might have found some. I bet he never met blacks who were as intelligent as him either, what a phony scumbag. He doesn’t deserve to hold public office.
TexasJuice
August 28th, 2006 at 11:05 amHe might want to check his facts, because the gays that I know or have known have been some of the happiest, most outgoing people I’ve ever met. Seems to me that those whose eyes are devoid of life are the righties who’ve had their 2.2 children and now live in a loveless, sexless marriage. And yes, I know those types too.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:05 amGayest quote ever.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:09 amFrom his “college hijinks” column: Laffey wrote that he views politics in “black and white.”
Well, that makes him a clone of his hero, King Georgie-Porgie. Black and white, gay and straight, with us or against us — it’s all the same with these nazis; no room for tolerance and live-and-let-live in the GOP. Maybe we should just ship them all back where they came from — under the biggest rock next to the biggest sesspool in Texas…
August 28th, 2006 at 11:11 amLaffey sounds like a kook. He also soudns like he like to talk about things he doesn’t understand.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:14 amLaffey, now 44, wrote the columns in 1983 and 1984… The homosexuals I’ve seen are sickly and decrepit, their eyes devoid of life.
Gee, I wonder what newly discovered disease would cause “sickly and decrepit” in the early 80’s???
August 28th, 2006 at 11:19 amyeah…….
thats why the word “gay” which originally meant “Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry.” was taken by the community to mean homosexual.
why do we still give these idiots their 15 minutes (or in this case 15 words)?
August 28th, 2006 at 11:21 amI wonder if the homosexuals he is speaking of maybe were internally conflicted folks who went to his church to ask how to they can be converted to heterosexuality because they didn’t want to “sin” anymore. Being told you have to deny how you feel about love is enough to suck the happy out of you.
Just a speculation.
More likely he was just enjoying patting his own back about how superior he feels from putting others who are different down.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:24 am…not racism as much as a$$holedom.
Comment by Spudge_Boy — August 28, 2006 @ 11:00 am
that sounds like a PLACE…
August 28th, 2006 at 11:28 amhow ’bout “assholeism”… a definite malady
Ok, progressives, let’s “have some fun” by putting Laffey, butt naked, in some early American stocks on Main Street in his home town of Cranston, RI. We can “think it’s funny” that he can’t hold his head up “straight”!
August 28th, 2006 at 11:29 amLet’s hope this doesn’t ruin his chances in the primary. He’s our best hope of taking the RI senate seat. Fortunately, this probably endears him to the kind of people that would turn out to vote for him.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:34 amdisgusting
August 28th, 2006 at 11:38 amKaty,
Even better: “assholierthanthouism”? – a virtual epidemic.
August 28th, 2006 at 11:56 am“assholierthanthouism†– now THAT is funny! (truth in humor)
August 28th, 2006 at 12:05 pmi agree! very funny… yea, i know of a few of those…
another funny, and entertaining, is franken’s show today -
August 28th, 2006 at 12:15 pmCAP’s own christy harvey and the delightfully intelligent tom oliphant
are guest hosting today thru wednesday…
let the homofacists begin their politcally correct tirade against normalcy and reason in their efforts to legitimize sexual deviants. you go queers! go back to your little closet and shut up.
August 28th, 2006 at 12:15 pmLaffey’s “political satire” is about as funny and entertaining as Coulter’s “tongue firmly in cheek” columns.
As for taking the US back to the “position it occupied before 1930″, it puzzles me it should be such a recurring dictum in conservative rhetoric -I guess they really miss the good ol’ days of unchecked child labor, no unions, segregation, and anti-miscegenation laws. Ah, yes, those were the days…
August 28th, 2006 at 12:22 pmlet the homofacists begin their politcally correct tirade against normalcy and reason in their efforts to legitimize sexual deviants. you go queers! go back to your little closet and shut up. Comment by homophobic and proud
“Normal” is a statistical categorization indicative of where on a dimension a large percentage of people (usually at least 68%) are. The remainder of people “deviate” from that norm. For example, “normal” height for adult males is about 5′ 7″ to 6′1″ and anyone shorter or taller are “deviants”. Should we only make those of “normal” height “legitimate” and force the tall or short people to “go into a closet and shut up”? Of course not, and we should not treat those who differ from the norm on the sexual orientation dimension as illegitimate either. Exactly what are you proud of in your bigoted views?
August 28th, 2006 at 12:26 pmIf Laffey stood up and said something along the lines of “it was twenty years ago, I shouldn’t have said it, I was wrong etc” then fair play, we all make mistakes when we were younger. However, his response is disgraceful. I just can’t understand why peoples sexual orientation is such a big issue. Who cares as long as both parties are consenting adults?
August 28th, 2006 at 12:42 pmjeesh, plc – it was bad enough the first time, then you had to go and put it in bold!?!
good answer though, but way over that one’s head, i’m sure…
and dave, i’m pretty sure it all stems from repression…
August 28th, 2006 at 1:00 pmI thought that was a$$holvania.
August 28th, 2006 at 1:05 pmWhile I think what he wrote was stupid, I shudder to think what would happen if someone published all the dumb stuff I said and did in college.
I think everyone should get a four-year break, from the ages of 18-22, from scrutiny, something like “The College Rule”…..they can chalk up all their stupid-ass behavior to alcohol
August 28th, 2006 at 1:05 pm#24, Punchy – perhaps and perhaps not, but either way, he still didn’t apologize or invoke the “college rule” at all. he still thinks it’s okay to have written, that it requires no excuse. shit, at least fake an apology, ya know?
August 28th, 2006 at 1:20 pm“a$$holvania” – the capitol of “a$$holedom”…
where they practice “assholierthanthouism†!
how ’bout that? this could get out of control… :-)
August 28th, 2006 at 1:27 pmWitchway
Thinking about it, I’m guessing he’s happy this has come out. In makes the intolerant base believe he’s “one of them”, regardless as to whether he regrets his statements or not. The joy of politics in an election year hey?
Here, is anyone else enjoying homophobic and prouds rants against “homofascists”? I’ve been out of university a few years but, from what I can remember, homosexuals were denied rights and killed by fascists. Of course, that’s probably due to liberal propoganda and the exact opposite happened.
Homophobic and proud – please advise how homosexuals are fascists.
Cheers
August 28th, 2006 at 1:37 pmjeesh, plc – it was bad enough the first time, then you had to go and put it in bold!?! comment by katy
Good point! Sorry. Italics from now on.
August 28th, 2006 at 1:37 pmHe did go away, though!
He is referring to how they looked after he and his buddies were done beating the sh*t out of them. “We were just having fun…”, playing ‘Smear the Queer’, “we thought it was funny…” Of course you did.
August 28th, 2006 at 1:47 pmJeez, maybe this guy should hire Mel Gibson as his campaign manager. But at least Gibson didn’t try to laugh off his anti-Semitic rants.
August 28th, 2006 at 3:00 pmsounds like he was describing Mighty Hypocrite!!
August 28th, 2006 at 3:08 pmThe trouble about the “college rule” is that most people don’t really change that much. If you are a kind considerate person in High School, you are likely a kind considerate person in college and afterwards. A selfish arrogant jerk is normally a selfish arrogant jerk in college and later.
August 28th, 2006 at 3:38 pmAlso what about responsibility? Don’t repukes believe in personal responsibility? If he has no realized it ISN’T funny, doesn’t he have a responsibility to apologize and confess his error?
LOL WHAT A ZANY FUN TIME JOKE!
August 28th, 2006 at 4:39 pmBigotry is fun! Bigotry is something to be proud of! Let’s hear it for the Bigot! Yeah, Bigot! Go bigot team! Yeah!
August 28th, 2006 at 5:44 pmonce I punched a black person in the face then burned his house to the ground. I told the police that I was only trying to be in good humor and then we all laughed. It was like a Menthos commercial.
August 28th, 2006 at 6:04 pmI wonder who people like “homophobic and proud” think they’re going to convice by simply spouting either nonsensical, erratic or downright lunatic sounding hatred.
August 28th, 2006 at 6:30 pmNormally, that kind of thing only serves to inflame your oponents and drive them still further from your viewpoint. But then, anyone that’s self-proclaimed proud of being an ignorant bigot probably wouldn’t grasp this simple concept.
I’m glad no one in the Repub crowd ever thought of putting on an “Apology Workshop,” these guys might end up doing something right, and that wouldn’t be good.
