Apocalypse not now.

Apocalypse not now.

“If you hadn’t heard,” writes Aditya Dasgupta at Foreign Policy’s blog, “Bernard Lewis – an eminent Princeton academic who is an extremely influential voice in the White House – actually predicted that Iran might try to wipe out Israel on August 22, 2006. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised to see this kind of blind speculation gracing the op-ed pages of the WSJ. And one week after August 22, the prediction seems even more ridiculous.”

Sorry – I meant August 22 of NEXT year.

  2. ick says:

Should we give W some credit for not going to war on this faulty intelligence?

(a snark a day keeps the sobbing away)

GW and his crime family NEED an excuse to start a war with Iran BEFORE the November elections to whip up sentiment to support the Republicans.

“]. . .] there is good reason to believe that this government is actually a conspiracy within a conspiracy [. . .]”

And that Bernard Lewis will say whatever it is they want him to say. The article states that Cheney believed that he got good advice from historians like Lewis in the run-up to Desert Storm.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Bernard more than 15 years ago, during my time as Secretary of Defense. It was not long after the dictator of Iraq had invaded Kuwait, and we brought in a large number of outside experts to speak about the history and the way forward in the Middle East. As you might imagine, I got a wide range of advice — some of it very good and some of it terrible. No one offered sounder analysis or better insight than Bernard Lewis…

But historical perspective changes when duty, (and the President) calls.

From the article’s link (regarding Iraq):

His track record in that area is pretty bad. He was one of the key figures promoting the invasion of Iraq and, presumably drawing on his knowledge of Turkey, he argued that his chum Ahmad Chalabi, the convicted fraudster, could become an Iraqi version of Ataturk.

Ironically, neither history, nor future historians will not be kind to this convienient, politically-driven historian, as willing to shape history as to define it.

What amazes me more is, aside from the obvious stupidity and ignorance, is the fear. They are afraid of their god, the russians, the arabs, the muslims, the immigrants, the blacks, communism, poor people, workers, students, books, etc…

  8. TripMaster Monkey says:

As I’ve said before, the American public is growing immune to terror threats. We’ve seen too many of them turn out to be so much smoke and mirrors.

An interesting parallel exists in the natural world. The monarch butterfly is quite poisonous, and advertises this fact via its extraordinary color scheme. Predators know what the bright colors mean, and leave the monarchs alone.

The viceroy butterfly is so named because it sports a color scheme almost identical to the monarch’s. However, unlike the monarch, the viceroy butterfly is quite safe to eat. The viceroy counts on its false warning to bluff predators away.

After serving up the monarch of 9/11, the administration has followed with a long succession of viceroys, expecting us to react the way they desire us to on the basis of fear alone. For a while, this worked, but after terror threat after terror threat has been shown to be either a government entrapment scheme, a ridiculous exaggeration of a non-threat, or a outright hoax, we’re slowly figuring out that the orange and black butterflies are no threat at all.

In the natural world, organisms who mimic poisonous organisms evolve to look as much like the real McCoy as possible. This leads to a situation where there are as many frauds as originals, and a predator learns that any given mouthful may or may not be bad to eat. This undermines the effectiveness of the warning coloration of the original poisonous organism, so the evolutionary pressure on them is to evolve to look as unlike their imitators as possible.

The coloration of the administration’s terror threats is fast becoming meaningless. Faced with the knowledge that bluff is no longer effective, the administration will go beyond mere bluff to secure the currency of the terror threat.

In short, expect another butterfly soon. But this one won’t be a harmless viceroy, but a deadly monarch. The next ‘terrorist incident’ will cost lives. It’s the only way the neocons can revalue the terror threat.

  9. WORFEUS says:

    This just in.

White House phone records show more than 400 calls from the Oval Office to Miss Cleo’s chat line since 2003 and the onset of the Iraq War.

Did Emperor Bush’s direct line to Satan drop it’s connection?

Emperor George Wanker Bush; the Satan Whisperer.

  11. Ronin Tetsuro says:

Perhaps when Bush was talking about going to Mars, he didn’t mean WE as in the world. He may have meant We as in his base? And they just need a few more ‘viceroys’, as Tripmaster put it, to finish looting the treasury.

Then they can complete their colony ship and pull off one final fuck you preformance: use their takeoff for Mars as a ’sure sign of alien invasion’.

They would, in their departure finally complete their long stated goal, to unite humantiy under one banner against a fictional foe.

  12. bones says:

Well, hehe, Prezidente Azmadinthehead has alled Laura a really bad name and said that he’s going to use suiciders to blow up Gafney, Souyth Carolina. So as Prezident I have authorized a nuclear strike on Teeran, hehe.

Yet another Zionist trying to direct US foreign policy for the benefit of Israel…

Sorry, but this is the “Elephant in the room” that everybody keeps ignoring. I was sitting on the fence regarding Israeli manipulation of the US for quite sometime, but it becomes more and more obvious that this is indeed what is going on.

Enter the world of the neocon, where they feel better with big events like ‘armageddon’ confirmed on their agenda.

Here’s what those idiots at the WSJ (and in the Bush cabinet) are oblivious to:

    Eye-opening read.
