From Hype To Hysteria: Fox News Selling Preemptive War Against Iran

Tomorrow marks the deadline for Iran to comply with U.N. demands to suspend portions of its nuclear program. Fox is using the opportunity to sell another preemptive war.

Today Fox has aired multiple segments featuring pundits who claim that a U.S. military attack on Iran is both essential and imminent. Fox anchors repeatedly parrot these arguments. Watch a compilation of clips culled from the last several hours:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2006/08/foxiran.320.240.flv]

Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) said recently that a military strike on Iran would be “disastrous, catastrophic,” and “would inflame the Middle East in ways we can’t imagine today.” A bipartisan group of national security experts agrees there are no good military options in Iran.

Digg It!

Full transcript:

FOX ANCHOR: In a Washington Times article, Arnaud de Borchgrave writes, “Odds makers bet sometime before the end of his second term President Bush will order a massive air attack on a wide range of carefully selected targets in Iran, in partnership with Israel, and against the advice of many of his advisers.”

FOX ANCHOR: Some though think a more hawkish approach is in order, suggesting that President Bush should order the military to hit targets in Iran sometime before he leaves office.

FOX ANCHOR: Do you see that as a possibility?
BILL KRISTOL: It sure is a possibility, Jon. And I think the President would hate to leave office with Iran well on its way to getting nuclear weapons

GEN. BURTON MOORE: It’s interesting that we’re discussing pre-emptive strike now as we get close to the deadline, which suggests that more and more people, particularly in conservative circles realize Iran’s not going to back down. The U.N. is not going to be able to enforce it and it will be up to the United States, perhaps Britain with some logistics support from perhaps France and of course Israel, will have to carry out a strike before Iran gets too far down the road here.

FOX ANCHOR: And could the Bush administration prepare to launch a massive air strike against Iran’s nuclear sites? This hour we will talk with one expert who says yes.

FOX ANCHOR: And I talked to a guest last hour who said military action could be imminent before Bush leaves office.

FOX ANCHOR: What about a pre-emptive strike on Iran? More and more reports on this now.

They are not looking for a good military option. They are just thinking of what a great ratings booster an all out war would be.

For the love of pete, for these idiots it is: Let the games begin!

  4. Evil Spaniard says:

Yes, let’s do a war with Iran! But only if the US Fox News staff is in the first wave of the invasion forces, cleaning minefields by hand, with a toothpick as only tool.

  5. g says:

leading up the war in iraq, we were asked the question “are we safer with or without saddam”. the answer was revealed. The world and the middle east is a lot more chaotic place now since the war. Now we should ask ourselves the same question. If we can’t handle iraq, do you think we could add iran, a country much larger? could we handle more terrorists? can our tax dollars do more in iran and iraq than to help our own nations problems, ie. katrina, the unninsured, growing federal deficit, etc. are you willing to join the military in a draft? wouldnt we be better off if we shifted our attention towards terrorists? unlike the slogans for the iraq war, a war in iran will not pay for itself

  6. WORFEUS says:

The right wing will tell you the difference between us and them is that we are unwilling to defend our country with war and they are.

The truth is that we BOTH are willing to defend our country with war.

The difference is we just don’t CRAVE it like they do.

  7. WORFEUS says:

The truth is they LUST after it.

    They WORSHIP it.

They THIRST for it. They thirst for blood.

  8. NMC says:

Well, I must say the neo-cons are looking pretty desperate. As of yet, nobody’ is buying their hype about Iran, so they turn to Fox News, (once again), to do their dirty work. Let’s see if the sheeple will fall for this.

  9. Juan C says:

Poor jerk offs. They only get pleasure in their pathetic, little lives with some images of jets cruising the skies and waving flags, like any 7th inning. America is pathetic. Im sorry for the intelliget people here.

  10. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

Every single one of the Bush Cabal Cheerleaders who foment war on Iran should offer their services to the military right now. Then they need to go see how this works out for themselves. First hand. Live and in person. On the front lines.

With NeoCons, anything short of participating in killing people will only lead to more Chickenhawk leadership.

It’s always easy to tell someone else to go fight your Grand Wars. But it’s damned difficult to show up and do it in person. People run the risk of facing reality… which for NeoCons is more often than not WAY out of step with what rattles around in their little minds…

  11. Udonnome says:

To all our men and women in uniform and the civilians who should know better: I’ll understand and support you if you just say NO.

  12. bubba says:

But for the small problem that, technically, according to the Constitution,
Bush cannot order an attack on Iran. But what the hell. Congress don’t seem to care much. War powers; whore showers. Let it rip.

  13. TripMaster Monkey says:

As I’ve said before, the American public is growing immune to terror threats. We’ve seen too many of them turn out to be so much smoke and mirrors.

An interesting parallel exists in the natural world. The monarch butterfly is quite poisonous, and advertises this fact via its extraordinary color scheme. Predators know what the bright colors mean, and leave the monarchs alone.

The viceroy butterfly is so named because it sports a color scheme almost identical to the monarch’s. However, unlike the monarch, the viceroy butterfly is quite safe to eat. The viceroy counts on its false warning to bluff predators away.

After serving up the monarch of 9/11, the administration has followed with a long succession of viceroys, expecting us to react the way they desire us to on the basis of fear alone. For a while, this worked, but after terror threat after terror threat has been shown to be either a government entrapment scheme, a ridiculous exaggeration of a non-threat, or a outright hoax, we’re slowly figuring out that the orange and black butterflies are no threat at all.

In the natural world, organisms who mimic poisonous organisms evolve to look as much like the real McCoy as possible. This leads to a situation where there are as many frauds as originals, and a predator learns that any given mouthful may or may not be bad to eat. This undermines the effectiveness of the warning coloration of the original poisonous organism, so the evolutionary pressure on them is to evolve to look as unlike their imitators as possible.

The coloration of the administration’s terror threats is fast becoming meaningless. Faced with the knowledge that bluff is no longer effective, the administration will go beyond mere bluff to secure the currency of the terror threat.

In short, expect another butterfly soon. But this one won’t be a harmless viceroy, but a deadly monarch. The next ‘terrorist incident’ will cost lives. It’s the only way the neocons can revalue the terror threat.

  14. Willy says:

To bad that the strategy of the right wing is always to “shoot first and ask questions later”. What we need are people who are willing to use diplomatic solutions, but apparently diplomacy isn’t a word in George Bush’s very limited vocabulary. And, since he doesn’t understand the word, he is unable to use that approach. Stupid b*st*rd.

  15. Elliot says:

So we have a crazy person who denies science running our country and a crazy person who denies history running Iran, so why are we suprised that we have this mess? And I believe neither of them have more than 40% of their country behind them.

  16. Evil Spaniard says:

Revolutions exploded in wiser leader’s countries…

  17. Schwede says:

Draft all our fine Young Republicans, point to the map where Iran is (turn on Faux News so they know where to go) and send all those Johnny Keyboardists to the front lines (no, son, you can’t work for the Stars and Stripes either).

  18. WORFEUS says:

Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them.

And thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.-

  19. Tobey Tall says:

The world will be against America forever The minute the truth comes out that Iran only was after its right to generate elctricity after the first pictures of babies with legs blown off the world will not buy any American products and wipe their hands of you all

  20. TripMaster Monkey says:

Hopefully, everyone here at least understands that Iran is nowhere near producing nuclear weapons.

For those who know people who dispute this, here is a good analysis of the non-threat Iran poses to the civilized world.

Rather than assume the administration is telling the truth until shown otherwise, I have found it to be a big time saver to simply assume they’re lying, until shown otherwise. I find that the practice of assuming everything the administration tells us is a lie has disturbingly accurate predictive value.

  21. Tobey Tall says:

The day the bombs begin to fall, the mullahs will join ranks with teenagers in the streets of Tehran. Dr. Ahmadinejad will become as politically immune from public criticism as Mr. Bush was on September 12, 2001.

Iran’s program can be delayed a few years by bombing, but only at the price of solidifying Dr. Ahmadinejad’s rule in Iran and making him a regional symbol of Islamic defiance. In this non-elected office, he will replace Osama bin Laden. The difference is, Ahmadinejad is a legitimately elected President of a nation with a lot of oil.

This is about oil, political power, currencies, and above all, legitimacy. It is about the ability of the United States to change regimes its way and then preserve these new regimes from replacement by domestic enemies.

The United States and its client state regimes will be replaced in the Middle East. It is only a matter of time. If the United States bombs Iran, the timetable will speed up.

  22. WORFEUS says:

To be a patriot, one had to say, and keep on saying, ” Our country, right or wrong,” and urge on the little war.

Have you not perceived that that phrase is an insult to the nation?

  23. Vincennes says:

Well if Fox wants to start a war then maybe we should ask Fox how many of their employees would enlist in the US military to fight such a war.

    Comment by TripMaster Monkey — August 30, 2006 @ 2:27 pm

    Hopefully Trip. But unlikely.

The right wing has a way of talking on future possibilities as if they are somehow present reaility.

Not only do most people NOT realize that not only is Iran more than a decade away from any REAL nuclear capbility, but most people still think North Korea can hit the US with a TaiPoDong.

    They can’t.

Idiot analysts on Fox took the range of the Tai Po Dong (around 2500 to 3000 miles) and decided it could reach the coast of Southern California by calculating Linear mileage. Of couse what these bozo’s DIDN’T do, was factor in that these were AIR MILES.

    :|

Air Miles between LA and North Korea are about 6000 Air Miles.

TWICE as far as the Tai Po Dong can travel.

But that didn’t stop “security moms” all over the country from believing it.

    And unfortunately, security moms vote.

If the Tai Po Dong was a Torpedo.

  27. chris says:

the administration is restricted by their own logic. by not acknowledging their self-imposed criteria for regime change (in which iraq and iran are mirror images) they reveal the inherent hypocrisy of what the US is trying to accomplish. attacking iran is almost a foregone conclusion at this point, because to the Republicans, not appearing wrong is worth any cost – in this case a staggering loss of lives.

  28. Margaret says:

TripMaster Monkey! Thanks for the laugh!

“I have found it to be a big time saver to simply assume they’re lying, until shown otherwise”.

I really needed that. Of course you may not have meant us to find humor in it. I guess it’s one of those things that you laugh to keep from crying. I have never seen such a bunch of liars in my entire life!

We’re all going to have to help each other through these next few months. It’s already coming at us fast and furious!

Attacking Iran is a really bad idea. The only ones who would enjoy it are the fools that have been saying, “Nuke Iran!” for years. Like that’s the answer.

  29. Geoff says:

It’s not preemptive when there is nothing yet to preempt. It’s preventative. Preventing Iran from getting something from the endless list of claims.

What I can’t figure out is how in the world the most obvious rejoinder to the panic doesn’t get more attention: NO ONE would dare use a nuclear weapon against us (or in the Middle East, against Israel) because any country launching such a strike would be utterly destroyed in retaliation!

It’s as if we’re completely defenseless. If we didn’t build up the largest nuclear arsenal in the bleeping world precisely to deter others from attacking us, then what the hell is it good for???

    Um, I think I know… :-(

And that doesn’t get any attention either.

  37. Marley says:

The look in Kristol eyes is bone chilling. He is a mass murderer in the making; free to walk this earth and paid by US to invade our airwaves… Incredible!
History repeats itself. This administration thinks that most Americans have forgotten the fear driven propaganda that led us into other useless wars.

    Brasscheck TV wrote:

In 2002, Adam Curtis and the BBC released a four-part series called “The Century of the Self.”

The series tracks how American elites have aggressively used the modern behavioral sciences to persuade, coerce and manipulate the American public into accepting the corporate-government world’s version of events as their own.

This seven-minute video which I call “The Assassin of Democracy” focuses on one of the most skillful and amoral expert of all the experts in mass manipulation, Edward Bernays. Bernays got his first taste of the power of propaganda during World War I. He advised US presidents from Woodrow Wilson to Einsehower and served numerous corporations and business associations. One of his biggest fans was Hitler’s propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels, a fact about which Bernays bragged proudly.

In this clip, we see a pattern that Bernays used over and over again: turn a harmless entity into a fearsome enemy through lies and manufactured news items. Then use the “threat” to justify attack. The subject of this video is Bernays campaign against the democratically elected government of Guatemala in 1953, but you’ll have no trouble seeing that this very same method is being used today:

#32 – …America just because your living a false economy and your empire is slowly decaying you need not take the world to armageddon along with you

Excellent points. Seems to me that ‘Ol Europe could teach Amerika a thing or two.

One of the many challenges is that current “leaders” use religion as a wedge to drive people to hate “the other”. This is a no win situation where George Wanker Bush’s Evangelical Kristian Army is facing off against Islam. Neither side can prove (and I do mean prove in a rational sense) that one’s form of God is better than the other… which goes a LONG ways toward allowing “leaders” to do anything they want.

  46. TripMaster Monkey says:

    Juan del Llano sez:

What I can’t figure out is how in the world the most obvious rejoinder to the panic doesn’t get more attention: NO ONE would dare use a nuclear weapon against us (or in the Middle East, against Israel) because any country launching such a strike would be utterly destroyed in retaliation!

Yes, Juan, it’s called the doctrine of massive retaliation, also referred to as the doctrine of mutually assured destruction. I like to sum it up as ‘I lose, everybody loses.’.

The doctrine of massive retaliation kept us alive during the staredown between the USSR and the USA (anyone here old enough to remembefr doing ‘duck & cover’ drills at school?).

The doctrine of massive retaliation presupposes that the people with their fingers on the buttons are sane enough to not want to see their own nation destroyed. The neocons’ argument at present is that the leadership of Iran is an irrational, violent regime with apopalyptic aspirations, who firmly believe that the End Times are upon us and that it is their holy duty to wipe out the infidels…and that given all this, they cannot be counted upon to fear massive retaliation sufficiently to deter them from launching a first strike.

The problem with this line of reasoning, of course, is that that derisive description of Iran’s government more closely fits the government of the U.S.A. at present. Our president has openly claimed to have conversed with the Almighty, a claim that would land most of us in a padded room. If any regime cannot be trusted with nuclear arms, it is the Dubya regime.

  47. bones says:

Again, the US does not have the manpower to do a ground invasion. Hell, the armed forces are taking 42 year olds, white supremisists, and convicts. Conventional munitions are possible, but once you start a shooting war in Iran, without ground troops to back up the bombardment, you’re in trouble. Nukes are the only option. GW has to have a war before the November elections, once he starts it the Iranians aren’t going to back down, which means terrorist attacks on US soil and interests and you can kiss the 130,000 American troops in Iraq goodbye sandwiched between Iran and Syria, Custered.

I already gave up on our people in Washington. I come here because I can actually argue with people who truly care about the issues. Those in washington don’t car about me or you. They surely don’t do what they say. Should we invade Iran?

Not today. We should talk to them and try to get them squared away without 1 bullet flying. Will the Bush administration do that? Nope. Why? Because they suck at foreign policy. Will the Dems finally step up and give a clear answer as to what they would do on the Iran issue (and by Dems, I mean one of the true party leaders). NOPE, because it won’t help them politically.

Both parties are simply political and couldn’t care less. I come here to engage people who actually care about the issue. Sadly, this site is getting filled more and more with guys and gals that don’t want a debate. They just want to bash Bush and History. It is sad as I would love to actually discuss what we (yes us on this site) would specifically do about this problem.

Anyways, just to keep fitting in with the other moron lefty soldiers:

Wow Roger_Roger you are an idiot. What choices do we have with Pakistan and North Korea? They already have nuclear weapons and possible ties to terrorists. I don’t see anyone advocating bombing them. To seriously consider attacking Iran for the reasons publically proposed by the neocons, you’d have to first seriously consider simultaneously taking out North Korea and Pakistan’s weapon producing capabilities, as well as the weapons they already have. Nuke bombs are a deterrent, not an offensive weapon in everyone’s mind except neocon crazies and islamic terrorists. State actors understand their country would be a pile of melted glass if ever found to be a part of a nuclear attack on american soil.

    I’m your huckleberry.

First, lets start by defining “this problem”.

Now let me see if I have your position straight.

You are frightened of a tiny country in the middle east who has limited technology and who “someday”, MIGHT get a nuclear device to work.

Never mind they have no delivery system. Never mind they have no reason to launch one at us. Never mind that even if they did launch one at us it in all probability would fizzle out over the ocean. Never mind that they know that if they do launch one, they’ll be blown to kingdom come.

    Never mind all that.

You’re frightened and you want answers. So I’ll give you one Rambro.

What would I do about “this problem”?

Why the same thing the republicans did about the same “problem” with North Korea.

    Nothing.

It’s time for less panic and some logical thinking. It’s only a matter of time before some country elects someone like Bush who would push the button first and weigh the implications later. Nobody wants WMD anywhere. It’s time to weigh the pros and the cons rationally. Not the time or place for someone too paranoid to think straight.

  80. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

    Roger_Roger
Just because we progressives see the nuanced social and political dynamics at play from both the U.S. and the Iranian perspective does not mean that we are the “Hate America First” site. We are the “America Can Do Better” site. Iran has increased their nuclear threats precisely because they feel threatened by the rhetoric and actions of the U.S. – why is this so difficult to accept for you and BushCo? That’s easy, too – because you are the cause. You can’t label 3 countries as the axis of evil, attack the weakest, and not expect the other two to start strengthening their military capabilities and rhetoric. You start labelling citizens of other countries as “demons” or in some other way less-than-human and how can you not expect them to be concerned that you might exterminate them. Worse, many of your political colleagues and trolls have expressed that very view on this site. Fear breeds fear. We Americans CAN and MUST do better.

  81. Go Back To Sleep America says:

How can you “discuss” something when the person at the other end of the table isn’t even willing (or can’t) demonstrate any credible evidence at all?

Person 1: “Let us have a discussion about the shape of the planet
Person 2: “Very well, I propose the planet is round.”
    Person 1: “I think it’s flat”
Person 2: “Well then, here is my evidence to show it is round…”
Person 1: “That’s extremely compelling evidence and I’ve nothing hard to show my viewpoint. Therefore I concur, the planet is indeed round”

There, not hard is it? Perfectly reasonable. So, how’s about it. First let’s see the evidence for your premise there is a real nuclear threat to the USA, and nuclear weapons in Iran? If that’s not possible, this “debate” is over before it began.

  82. Roger_Roger says:

    Miker,

Now that is a good post!! The publicized reasons the BUsh administration push’s for attacking Iran aren’t the true reasons. We won’t attack North Korea because that country doesn’t have anything we need. Iran on the other hand controls a vast Oil field that effects the price of world wide Crude. This means alot to us (Both Democrats and Repugs even though neither would admit that). So, we frame the Iranian leader as a crazy nut. We push the idea that they won’t talk with us. Then we overthrow said crazy nut and put in a puppet that listens and obeys.

That is the American way afterall and “maybe” the reason the middle east hates us in general.

So, as you can see, I ain’t a huge I love Bush brain dead moron. While many of my financial idea’s are conservative, most of my social ideals are very left-wing. Foreign Policy has never come across to me as a Left vs. Right though. It is just a part of the job and your either good or bad at it. In the end, either party will ALWAYS do 2 things when making a decision.

    1) Will it benefit me and my party
    2) Will it help America

They truly don’t think or care much about the rest of the world. Hell, most don’t care about anyone but themself. This is a major reason, I won’t be voting this fall. Neither party actually stands for anything. As a matter of fact, I would vote for someone who I completely DISAGREE on every single issue IF they would actually go to washington and do it. You see, all politicians today simply talk about ideals that you and I eat up. They then get elected and head off to washington. At this point they could care less about us or what they said while trying to get elected. It is time for change in both parties.

  83. bones says:

First, Roger roger – the statement both parties don’t stand for anything is republican propoganda for yes we torture and kill the innocent but the democrats are just as bad, no they’re not. Republicans kill children and torture people. Second, nuking Iran won’t get their oil. It will shut off their oil to us and gas prices will go up tremendously, hurting everyday Americans. Bush will still get gas for free from the American taxpayer and Big Oil profits will rise again. Third attacking middle east countries CAUSES terrorists, they don’t like us screwing with their lands, government, etc. So NONE of what you outline in post 81 is ANY GOOD for you or the US.

  84. Go Back To Sleep America says:

You know Roger, you might be taken more seriously if you didn’t start off with trollish and inflammatory statements, which, apparently/supposedly don’t really represent your actual views anyway? Cut the crap, stop making excuses and put it on the table beforehand rather than pretending to be this or that. You’ll just come across as dishonest otherwise.

If you’re just playing devil’s advocate, what is the point of that? There are enough real trolls and defenders of the current administration here as it is. Unless of course your statement is just another decoy. See what I mean about lacking credibility and integrity, if you pretend to be something you’re not?

As you’ve failed to produce any hard evidence there is a direct and immediate nuclear threat from Iran to the USA, the conclusion must be there is none. At least in the context of your “debate”

  85. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

    Roger_Roger
You prove that you are symbolic of the problem. You make claims that you don’t back up, change the subject, declare yourself a “regular guy”, refuse to respond to request for clarification and proof of your positions, and then whine that there is no one to agree with you to the point you won’t vote. This is exactly the way BushCo interacts with other nations and forms its foreign policy.

  89. Roger_Roger says:

My post #81 is the real reasons the government does with it does. I don’t agree with it, but it still holds true.

Does Iran hold an immediate threat to the USA? NO
Do they have nukes right now? NO
Is Iran a very important piece of real estate to the US? YES
Will we attack Iran? I would say there is at least a 50% chance of it
Is it smart to attack Iran? NO

    What would I do?

I would actually stop this wall we built and actually go talk to them. The President of Iran isn’t a crazy man. He actually seems fairly intelligent. Check out his site some time:

    http://www.president.ir/eng/

The problem is really one that can’t be fixed. They hate the fact that we and our allies screwed them after WW2. Sadly, we can’t fix that wrong today as Isreal will always be a country at this point. Furthermore, Iran is a very religous country while the USA is not. We need to discuss what we can agree on. Iran building nuke sites is a bad idea. A country sitting on a huge lake of Oil doesn’t need more energy. They could build refineries for that. They are doing what there doing in a hope to protect themselves but that is pointless since we will never let that happen. There best bet is to become more like America and get with the free market. They could turn that Oil into Serious cash which they could diversify and become a world super power with time. Right now they are simply acting like a child and it won’t get them anywhere.

My problem with America is simple as well. Republicans in generals speak about conservative values and smaller government, but don’t actually do any of it when they get elected. They spend more each year and never pass new laws to back there moral philospohy. Democrats are in a prime position to take America back. There problem is that they also want to spend more money and most of there major social issues are already legal. They are left trying to run campaigns simply on how bad the other side is. They also go out of there way to create new victum groups that “need” them.

Either way, in the end both parties are identical. They say one thing and do another. Democrats screaming about how much the republicans are spending is like a robber screaming about how another robber is stealing something.

I want to see the Repugs actually go to washington and fight for what they actually say. On the flip side, I want to see Democrats stop living in the past. They need to run a campaign on NEW ideas about the problems facing america. They need to stop with the vague BS and lay out specific plans that drastically differ from the repugs. I want to be able to tell the 2 parties apart again.

We normal people have these extreme views and are very engaged, yet no one on either side of the aisle actually looks out for us. They all need to stop paying lip service and start doing something!

    2) We do nothing

  105. Roger_Roger says:

We are NOT a religous country. Most people in America are religous, but are government isn’t based on religon. Far from it. Furthermore, most “religous” people are only religous in name only. They don’t actually have any true faith. Over 60% of america believes in the Death Penalty (I don’t) yet call themselves christian even though the pope himself is against it. How many Catholic women will use the morning after pill? How many have abortians? My point is, they only call themselves christian, they don’t actually live it.

Iran on the other hand, is all based on religon.

That is pretty extreme for us to deal with here in Secular America land.

    Roger_Roger sez:

I believe I expressed right were I stand.

Actually, RR, no, you didn’t. You expressed two conflicting opinions:

The opinion that, barring success by the U.N., our choices were to attack or let them build nukes,
    – and –
The opinion that we should ’stop this wall we built and actually go talk to them’.

Two mutually exclusive viewpoints, which you now seem to be trying to mash together into a single statement. Very well, I’ll grant you the benefit of the doubt in this case, but it’s entirely besides the point anyway:

I say we at least attack there nuclear structures to decrease there progress. I wouldn’t think that any american would want Iran having Nukear weapons.

As I stated earlier, this is a false dichotomy. Iran is simply incapable of generating weapons-grade fissile material with their existing equipment. It’s not possible. PERIOD. The Iranian facility is completely unsuited to refining fissiles much above the 2.5% or so needed for fuel purposes (weapons-grade material, in contrast, needs to be upwards of 80%). See the problem? Also, to enrich a useable amount of material in a realistic time frame one needs about 16,000 centrifuges hooked up so that they cascade. How many centrifuges does Iran possess? 164. Again, see the problem?

The nuclear threat Iran poses to the world is zero. Anyone who tells you different is selling something.

  114. bones says:

Solitare and owlbear – The Bush Administration wants, note WANTS, perpetual war. War breeds increased oil prices, big profits for defense contractors. They have been baiting Iran at least since the war in Iraq began.
The most recent example is “allowing and encouraging” Israel to invade Labanon, knowing full well Iran and Syria would be un-nerved and possibly attack Israeli forces to protect innocent Lebanese. Bush NEEDS an attack BEFORE November, then we have no option to fight Iran. Once Bush does anything to Iran, there’s no way they won’t retaliate and then Bush has justification for a “war”.

  115. cstrut says:

People you can make a difference. Call upon your elected officials (the people in DC who are your employees to censure this administration. Iran supplies a major chunk of chinese oils making them a staunch allie with China (who happens to be holding about 1/3rd of our debit.) Venezuela will also back Iran making this war a bit closer to home than the one in Iraq. America is almost completly broke and is quikly running out of creditors.

As for Roger_Roger, if neither of the two political parties are to your liking and somewhere deep down you do find it important to be politically engaged (evidenced by the simple fact that you post here), choose the remaining option: start up your own party.

Write-up your views and plans with the USA. Put it all down in your own blog. You’ll never know if anyone shares your opinions and misgivings. Tip: start with plans to change the voting system from district to representative so you can release your beloved country from the two-party dictatorship stranglehold. Maybe split up the president’s tasks between a president and a prime minister. Maybe even have a look around the world, see how other democracies work, what’s different and why. You’ll never know if it’ll work unless you try.

As for Fox, can’t wait until this madness is over (and it hasn’t even started yet) and I can visit Schiphol to see that A380 land, carrying the main culprits of the global fearmongering debacle. I’ll be cheering as Bush & Co are led to their 5-star hotel in ’s Gravehage. Well, we all can dream, can’t we?

For instance, all the Pox News pundits who are advocating the bombing of Iran should be immediately renditioned over to the Green Zone in Baghdad. That is definitely a forward position that will be attacked by Iran sympathizers in Iraq if bombs drop on Iran.

I figure that Hezbollah has rocket launchers already in place around the Green Zone (hey, they’ve had over three years to prepare) just like they positioned rocket launchers with over 12,000 rockets in southern Lebanon.

All the Hezbollah agents in Baghdad or their Iraqi sympathizers are doing is waiting for orders, like after Bush orders the bombing to begin in Iran, for them to begin raining rockets (and mortars) down on the Green Zone, as well as other U.S. military/political locations around Iraq.

Therefore, the Green Zone is the perfect place for all the Pox News pundits to be located if their egging on Bush to attack Iran is successful. At least, they’d be putting their asses where their mouths are.

Let’s assume for the sake of argument that a Democrat is elected to succeed Bush. Bush as a lame duck, declares “victory” in Iraq, freeing up thousands of troops. In the last days of his Presidency he orders the attack against Iran. His successor will then be embroiled in a war, and the Repbulicans will be able to blame the Democrats for the outcome.

Or, assume that a Republican will succeed Bush. Same thing, Bush starts the war. His successor will be a “War-Time President.” Further restrictions on freedoms will be called for, as well as a further expansion of Executive Power. It’s win-win for the Ruling Elite. 141. South Point Man says:

Now, now, folks, let’s put on our happy faces that global thermonuclear war is about to happen…

    Why?

Because if it does, the swiss will be prevented from completing their linear accelerator with which they intend to create umpity tens of thousands of black holes a day. The swiss claim it’s all perfectly safe as the black holes will evaporate before they have a chance to interact with the Earth. But the swiss are lying out their asses. It’s not safe at all. Somewhere along the way, a black hole will interact with the Earth and then it’s a permanent Bedtime For Bozos. The linear accelerator is scheduled to go online next year.

So, come on folks, turn those thermonuclear war frowns upside down.

A black hole in the core of our planet is so infinitely worse than nuclear war, that a nuclear war in comparison would be a happy, blessed event. So let’s have everybody nuke everybody as the EMP effect will destroy the linear accelerator’s ability to function. Or even better, if a few nukes were detonated on the CERN facility, so much the better.

Think I’m making this up? Check it out for yourself…
    http://www.risk-evaluation-forum.org/anon1.htm

If you thought global thermonuclear war is stupidity run completely amok, this is sheer blatant stupidity in its very stupidest form.

At least after a nuclear war, after a few million years have passed and the radiation has half-lifed away, it would be tough to tell a nuclear war ever happened, except, of course, for the obvious bomb crater lakes that will dot the landscape. But at least, the Earth will still be there.

Not so with a black hole in the planet’s core. Where there was once a planet orbiting the sun, will instead be a small black hole orbiting where the Earth used to be.

So, happy faces, everyone, happy faces! Or at least if you still had a face after being flashburned so badly that your skin hangs off you in strips and your eyeballs have been literally melted out onto your cheeks. Well, ok, so you won’t have a face anymore, but still, you can die in horrible pain thinking happy thoughts that at least the Earth has been saved from the swiss.

Let’s go thermonuclear! Nuclear war so the Earth can be saved! Stop the swiss!

#150 South Point Man. I hope I missed the [/sarcasm]-tags. Baseless fearmongering is the typical method for neoconservatives to goad the

The site you link to displays so much misunderstanding of both relativity and particle physics that even a non-physicist like me can point out several huge mistakes.

“For example, if the MBH speed were zero, gravitational attraction would be active at a distance greater than the Schwarzschild radius.” The Schwarzschild radius has nothing to do with turning gravity on or off. What it does define is the radius for any given mass where the escape velocity is higher than the speed of light. Also “gravitational attraction would be active” implies that the writers only understand gravity as if it were a force rather than the curvature of space-time. Disqualified for not understanding relativity.

“To indicate the pressure we must use the surface If in an equation Pressure P = Force F / Surface S if we keep F= Constant and we reduce surface, we are obliged to notice that Pressure P will increase.” This is so faulty that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. The whole page is about reinterpreting science fiction through Newtonian physics. Do they even know what pressure is, especially at the subatomic level? Fermions and bosons are considered to be point-particles and as such have an infinitly small volume. That’s where this whole MBH mess comes from, applying relativity (Schwarzschild radius) to point-particles. Why do you think the Standard Model (QED, QCD) is called a Model? One of today’s frontiers in science is how to make a succesful theory out of the combination of relativity and quantum mechanics. Read some real scientific papers concerning string theory, loop quantum gravity, (causal) dynamic triangulations, non-communicative geometry, deformed special relativity to get an inkling on how difficult the whole subject is. And just to be sure: real scientific papers.

I am in the process of reading David Ray Griffin’s newest book “Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11” for the second time. Apart from outlining the evidence of U.S. government complicity in the attacks of 9/11, this book also challenges its audience to understand the “demonic forces” ever-present in world events. Taking this discussion out of the realm of mythology and rejecting the fundamentalist evangelical approach to theology, Griffin makes a very eloquent case for viewing USA foreign policy, global warming trends and humanity’s sordid history of “War Systems” from a realist’s standpoint – as a product our own intellectual creaturely creativity – in direct conflict with the divine.

I have come to the conclusion, after reading this book, and reviewing USA foreign policy in Guatemala, and Iran, and Indonesia, and Vietnam, and Cuba, and Chile, and on and on and on, that advanced degrees in physics and structural engineering is not necessary to read the obvious writings on the wall.

And, if we wait DECADES (as we did with all of these other crimes) to determine the horrible truth – that YES the USA did indeed orchestrate terrorist attacks all over the world, for over a century, as a tool of imperial design –

Oil Hitting the Fan: Iran’s Coming Petroeuro Oil Bourse

“What is an oil bourse? It’s like a stock exchange for oil. There’s two major ones in the world already: London’s International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) and the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).

Along with Iranian plans to start a third oil bourse in early 2006, what may be most disturbing to the petrodollar establishment is the likely intention of Iran to also, according to William Clark, “usher in a fourth crude oil marker – denominated in the euro currency. From a purely economic and monetary perspective, a petroeuro system is a logical development given that the European Union imports more oil from OPEC producers than does the U.S.”

Clark, who has an upcoming book on the subject, Petrodollar Warfare, went on to say…

“One of the Federal Reserves’ nightmares may begin to unfold in 2005 or 2006, when it appears international buyers will have a choice of buying a barrel of oil for $50 dollars on the NYMEX and IPR… or purchase a barrel of oil for E37 – E40 (37 to 40 euros) via the Iranian Bourse.

“A successful Iranian Bourse would solidify the petroeuro as an alternative oil-transaction currency, and thereby end the petrodollar’s status as the monopoly currency.”

Does that mean Iran will be made an example, too? Is war with Iran inevitable, notwithstanding the euros recent weakness? Seymour Hersh and Scott Ritter, at least, believe it’s right around the corner. Both the veteran investigative journalist (in the January 24th New Yorker) and the former weapons inspector (in a February 18th talk) maintain that the decision has already been made and the planning already begun.” — Gold, Blood and Petrodollar Defectors

Ok silly people, lets get down to brass tacks. We don’t do anything about North Korea for the same reason we will do something about Iran……money. North Korea borders China, and they are very uncomfortable with a US presence on thier border. So, we don’t want to upset the Chinese, and destablize our own economy in the process. Iran, however, holds large volumes of Oil. They have no direct patron that will “rush” to thier defense (Despite Russia and China’s objection to sanctions, niether is interested in hostilities with the US over a region that is as alien to them as us), so we are free to treat them in a more agressive manner. Now that being settled, the best course of action really is to move on Iran. Despite the widely held public belief, we are quite capable of taking down Iran. By doing this we weaken the last remaining regional power in the middle east. Will the “arabic” world dislike it? Sure, but it won’t make new terrorists. It will just provide them with another reason (although, they don’t really need one) to urge attacks against “The Great Satan”. Please remember that the people who attack us are the minority, but as the old saying goes: it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the whole bunch. Of course the way to fix that problem is to through out the bunch, and pick new apples.

If they want it finished, then all they have to do is vote to end the action. They will vote the way people tell them if there is enough support. You can fight a war against an enemy army that you can see and develop lines against; however when you are fighting an enemy that consist of one or two men teams that hid in your civilian population and actually wish to die in the process of caring out their plans you are fighting a completely different war that is almost impossible to wipe out .History proves this point and we as Americans need to remember it.

  157. WFI GUY says:

    Anita,

Umm the FBI didn’t indict Hirihito either, but that doesn’t mean that there was no evidence that he was involved in an attack on the United States.
An indictment of Osama would be meaningless.
As to the country that has invaded and occupied two other countries, that is inaccurate. We were asked to remain by the Afghan government, so that isn’t an occupation. Iraq is an occupation, and I refer to my previous email to Sal. If the people of the US really want us out, then they can let Congress know. It really is that simple. But the fact is that while war is terrible, it is sometimes necessary. If there were no other reason but to establish a presence on either side of Iran, then invading Iraq wasn’t bad. In the end, we will see if the invasion was appropriate. Often the ramification of foreign policy decisions take years to manifest.
I presume of course that you support the troops, as most people say they do. But does any one really understand what that means? Do you buy groceries for the wife who was left behind, because her husband is a reservist who’s military pay is 1/2 of his civilian job? Do you hold the child of a friend and lack the words to explain to him why mommy isn’t coming home? DO YOU EVEN KNOW SOMEONE IN THE MILITARY?

I disagree with your view that Iran wants to start a nuclear war with the US and Israel. I beleive that they want to hold onto the “trump” card of nukes, so that they can project thier foriegn policy (Read religious beliefs) first regionally, then globally. I beleive they feel that no one will attack them, because of the chance of Nuclear destruction. It is more important for Iran to understand the History of the US, and nuclear armed countries in general. While most are cautious about attacking countries with Nuclear arms, it is not completely unprecedented. The fact is that most countries with Nuclear Arms use them as a “last resort” defense. That is where Iran wants to be. The problem is that there are elements in thier society that simply cannot be trusted to be rational. Although some will say Neo cons aren’t rational either, they are not willing to trade thier lives for thier beliefs. Regardless of what this says about thier character, it is a comforting fact for those who are possible recipients of nuclear strikes from the US. Iran’s current leadership has no such compunction, so the issue isn’t really about deterrence, it’s about rationallity. The US has the same concerns with India and Pakistan, however they already have the technology, so the genie is out of the bottle.

WFI Goon- “If there were no other reason but to establish a presence on either side of Iran, then invading Iraq wasn’t bad”

Are the deaths of over 100,000 civilians and almost 3,000 US soldiers bad? Is lying to congress and the American people about the reasons for invading Iraq bad? Is de-stabilizing Iraq to the point that people are now openly talking about splitting the country up into three countries bad? I think a lot of people may disagree with your assertion!

Also, how do you know that attacking Iran “won’t make new terrorists”? Did you not read anything about the effects of Israel’s recent destruction of a good part of Lebanon? From what I’ve read, there are a lot more people supporting Hezbollah now than before the bombings. Considering that the official U.S. line is that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization, I think we can conclude that Israel was productive on one score at least – they created more terrorists!

How would YOU feel if some country decided that they wanted our resources so just dropped a bunch of bombs on some key cities and then moved their troops in and took over? Would you just roll over and let them?

And, please correct me if I’m wrong, but are you trying to tie unwillingness to go to war with Iran as being unsupportive of American troops?! I sure hope not. But, if so, did it occur to you that by NOT going to war with Iran some military lives might actually be spared? And that more of those military wives that you are supposedly so concerned about will actually get to see their spouses again?

We can’t even go into the new testament where every word Jesus spokewas of peace and love (’before it was said an eye for an eye…but I say turn the other cheek’ (paraphrased). This is the most morally bankrupt, evil, greedy, uncaring, etc. etc. regime ever!

BTW, the reason that we invaded Iraq is because Saadam was going to sell oil for Euros. Right now, entities must pay for oil in dollars which keeps us in business.

  165. Sal Munno says:

  166. WFI GUY says:

    Sal,

Absolutely right in the regards to Russia possibly sharing the technology with the Iranians. However, it is unlikely that the Russian government did this knowingly. Again, they have a greater fear due to proximity, and understand that the only reason they have not seen terror attacks on Russian soil is due more in part to the internal security apparatus. If the Iranians did acquite the “bomb” from Russia, it was from individuals, not the government as a whole. The technology for cleaning the uranium came from a third party, but it is readily available commercially. In and of itself it is not weapon specific. However the enrichment of uranium is considered dual use, as it can also be used to create nuclear weapons. Again the issue here is will power. Either we as a country need to have the will to eliminate this risk now, or have the will to retaliate to a possible nuclear strike (most likely sea based, short range missle) by overwhelming response. Despite what stories and movies say, we may or may not strike back, if Iran did perpatrate a nuclear strike. It depends largely on American Will. I for one, having served in harms way, would prefer that the shooting take place there, rather than here. I believe that a conflict with the middle east (most likely a Syrian-Iranian-Shiia Muslim Iraq) is inevitable. Some the question is, how long do we wait. It took 5 years to stop Hitler and Tojo, at a staggering cost….is this what we want for our children?

  167. WFI GUY says:

    Margaret,

Yes, the deaths of Civilian and Military personell are bad (although I disagree with the Civilian total). Lying to congress is bad, but despite what congress would have you think, they have access to the same information, so they are culpable as well for authorizing it. In destablizing Iraq, I would suggest that Germany under Hitler was extremely stable, but that doesn’t make it a good place to live. Unfortunately Iraq (much like Yugoslavia) was never meant to be a single country. It really should be, and was several smaller “countries”. It was held together (again like Yugoslavia) by force of arms, torture of civilians, murderous reprisals against dissendets, etc.).
When I suggest that it won’t make new terrorists my point is this: any one who would be recruited to become a terrorist doesn’t have a shortage of reasons to do so. Adding one more reason to a long list doesn’t change the product, only the packaging.
With regards to Israel, I would suggest that the assertion is incorrect. Hezbollah is supported by the Lebanese only because the government lacks the ability to remove them. I think that if they want to continue to be a political party in Lebanon, then that is there right. However, I firmly believe that if they disarmed, then they would lose the support they currently have. In inner cities of the US, gangs are “supported” by the local populace out of fear, but that doesn’t mean that they are wanted, nor does it mean that eliminating them would draw more people to thier cause.

I beleive that I would feel the same as I did before with regards to another country wanting our resources and dropping bombs. I would be unhappy. But, at the same time I wouldn’t find myself in a postion of killing innocents (ala WTC) to get it to stop. Innocents might be killed collatorally when I went to the foriegn country to fight back, but that is the unfortunate nature of war. But to target them specifically is something that I would never agree with. Now if we are talking specifically about Iraq, I seem to recall hearing something about the local government (the newly elected leaders) asking for our support. So I guess then that we aren’t really occupying the country, so much as assisting the new Government (chosen by the people) at thier request. Did we drop bombs? Yes. Did Saddam want that? No. Did the Iraqies want Saddam? No. So, we are at an impasse.

No, I am not tying support of the troops to not going to war in Iran. Yes, by not going to war with Iran it would definitely spare troops….in the short term. However, don’t be niave enough to believe that we won’t at some point be forced to militarily face Iran. Give me peace in my children’s time, even if it means I need to fight here and now.

Please do not ever forget that we have the life we live because there are men and now women willing to do violence on our behalf. War is ugly, hateful, evil, and repugnent, but sometimes it is necessary.

We tried to be diplomatic with Iran in the 70’s, didn’t work. We tried to help Lebanon in the 80’s, didn’t work. In beleiving that if we just abandon the middle east, and they will leave us alone is why we are here today.

Sal, thank you, but Margaret believes in what she says, and I respect that greatly, even if I disagree. She writes passionately, and I welcome the discourse, as it may be the best way to solve the problems our nation faces.

  168. FingerPointing says:

I see a lot og finger pointing. Those in Europe thinking their governments are innocent and even those in the Middle East, only pointing at America. The truth be know, the leaders of most of these countries work together and we are all guilty (govermenatally speaking). I leave you with this:
WHO gains the most from a de-moralized Middle East?
    I would say;
    1) Europe
    2) Israel
    3) Middle East (other than #2)
    4) America

    WRI GUY MARGARET AND OTHERS,

Let me bring up a bad subject for a moment, and I am not asking for discussion even though I encourage it,,,,,Depleted uranium bombs which in my opinion are weapons of mass destruction which killed in 2001 and 2002 and keep killing today even though they were launched years ago were fired at countrys which we claimed had wmd’s well isnt that a contradiction in terms and hippo, THINK ABOUT IT!

Now for another bad subject gulf war #1, the first thing acomplished by milatary was to secure offshore oil drilling facilitys which the bash’s owned in the facinity of kawatis shores.

Now for another bad subject a oil pipeline going through turkey our ally and other countrys envolved
    we are in agreement with..

And now for another bad subject the Baku yes thats Baku pipeline which the oil lords cut afghanastan out of the deal and threatened to destroy maybe we bombed them before Iraq to whip them into submission, because suppossedly we were after “al quaida” right which we were told was in afghanistan right, well isnt that where alquiada is and who we yes thats the US Gov helped train and fund and start under the guise of stability in there country!

Now for another bad subject proof and overwhelming evidence of depleted uranium bombs and amunition being used on lebanon, and the overwhelming substancial evidence of our supposedly much needed bomb shipments to Israel,,supposedly, repeat I say supposedly, which were used to whip lebanon into submission!!

As I type I cry right now, yes its ok for men to weep, what I weep about no-one will admit in exists!

Now for another bad subject, air bases and naval ports all over the middle east region,,,,GUESS WHO controls the air AND WATER???? YES USA Question is and proof we control Iran AND THE MAJORITY OR THE MIDDLE EAST AND ALL THIER AIR SPACE,, Iran has purchased sub’s from prescious Russia to try and get around are supossed control and stronghold on that region which carry nukes,,, AND to top that off Russia picked up 1/3 the bill 3 subs one for free and yet they supposedly are against terrorism.

I think of Tom Cruise saying to the biggest pig in hollywood in a movie WHERE he was confronting a heavy hitter commander of a milatary facility in Cuba, AND SAID

“YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH” after being asked do you want the truth?

You know what, I want the truth and so do all those I know and my sons as well! My point in saying this is, I believe God can show and reveal to us the truth before we ever here it from a human being, that has to do with discernment, which is a gift!

    Sal M.

  173. Higher Power says:

Premptive Military Attacks are Immoral and Illegal
Further the most reasonable intelligence indicates that it may be as long as 10 years before Iran can enrich enough uranium for 1 bomb. Thus, even if they do get one in the next 10 years they are not likely to use it, since the main point of having one is to deter others form attacking them.

Under international law they are allowed to develop Nuclear energy for peaceful use.
Brave Americans will understand that we survived several decades with literally thousands of missles set for launch on hair trigger, by the USSR. As we compare Iran to this we see how the Neo-cons are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Using this narrow perspective they appear as complete cowards, ready to kill innocent people without any proof of even the existence of a bomb. Iran has every right to develop and build nuclear power plants, hell who cares if they build a nuclear weapon. In the event they use it on us we will survive that and be able to respond with overwhelming force if need be, this is the deterrent factor.

For those who would make the argument that what if they let an Islamic militant terrost group have the bomb and it is delivered secretly without knowing the origin. I say simply, we can always send clear public signals, that any detonation of a nuclear device on US soil by islamist wahabis, will result in the bombing of Meca. This will deter any islamic terrorists, in much the same way wee deterred the USSR by threatenign them with mutual assured destruction. Not even the craziest islamic terrorist will feel it is worth doing if we promise them we’ll blow up Meca. This will also encourage the Saudis to deal with their own terrorists. This simple foreign policy defice while extreem is no more extreem than what we used in the cold war. the only problem with it is it does not provide a mechanism for the Military induclrial complex to continue it’s onscene profit making enteprises flowing form perpetual war on terroism, nor does it offer the oil corps access to the occupied resources which would be captured as bounty in Iran.

Stop the Buch Crime syndicate, restore democracy and the constitution in the united states now!

A democracy has never worked in any country wether imposed or taught and caught and supposedly practiced!

Look at how divisional the debates are between republicans and democrats, and the values they claim to believe in.

  183. Frank says:

I think an attack on Iran will occur before the November elections, and this by Israel. We then pick up the pieces. This will confuse the country, but the “rally round the flag boys” hysteria calculation will be thought to soften the blow of the republicans losing at least one house of congress. Hell, they may even think that this a favor for Bush, and maybe, just maybe, the ‘rally” will keep the republicans in power . Israel cannot afford to lose Bush through committee hearings and investigations which will be “de rigueur” after the next election. No, the dirty work will be done before the election, while Israel’s soft cushion, found in Bush, can “joyusly” take the retaliatory blow for Israel. They need the brilliance of a Bush claiming that Sharon is a man of piece, and that Israel won the the latest Lebanon fiasco. They need him to say that Israel attacked Iran in self defense, before Bush loses all credibility through committee hearing proofs of his lies leading us to the worst blunder in our country’s history. In a word, Israel must attack Iran before Bush is totally discredited, and on the road to possible impeachment. The November election will probably be the most important date in our nation’s history, dwarfing 9/11’s import. How better to introduce the draft this way?

  185. BC Bud says:

Unfortunately for FOX and the rest of the MSM, a war with Iran would be a media fiasco. Quite frankly, it would be boring and a ratings failure. As this war will surely be an air war, there would be no first hand reporting, as its hard to embed a reporter in a stealth bomber or cruise missle. We’ll be going back to the days of the 1st Gulf War with TV images of missiles striking their targets, interviews with know-nothing psuedo-military experts and on screen graphics that always manage to incorporate America’s favourite cult symbol, the red, white and blue. But what interesting graphics they would be. A map of Iran showing where all the tactical nukes have struck, an overlay showing where all the radio-active fall-out will land and a clicker counter to show how many of millions of Iranians will die.

Perhaps FOX will take us live to the Oval Office to watch the Monkey Man lead the Joint Chiefs in a prayer circle, where he will “Speak in Farts” as he reassures the nation. At the same time he will pray for the return of the US Constitution (which has been stolen under very mysterious circumstances), but if it can’t be found he’ll promise to write a new one from memory.

This clause has been there ever since the beginning… but was never used before BUSH.

    SURPRISED???

  193. Tim says:

Well, seems to me that the games that abound amongst international leaders don’t reflect what the real populace desire. We may all agree that we have no real notion of what the US intelligence circles REALLY know and what they REALLY wnat done.
From the Tri-lateralists to the ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT conspirators and on and on.
    What the heck.
I had no choice in being born in the US. Neither had most others born in less fortunate countries and circumstances. If Iran is a bona fide threat and we know it has been (not by media spin alone) but by those who suffer under the government that chooses to degrade human life…..then we who CAN help should.
I know I just opened a can of worms in that statement….but we Americans are NOT always rightly reflected in the way our military or foreign policy makers intend.
I’m just a run of the mill dad. I have a family and daily struggles. I know my day-to-day is nothing like others in the world. If there be a direct way, by contributions to benevolent groups or prayer, I’ll do what I can.
I DO NOT believe that world domination is the issue with democracy. The US is a REPUBLIC!!! If other people, worldwide wish to be free of tyranny, why can we not help them.

Truely, I hate the idea of war, weapons, loss of innocent lives, yet I live in a country whose birth was of such leagcy.
I think we spoiled Americans can step in the gap even at the peril of our own freedoms to help the people who would throw off appression.

Iran has thumbed it’s nose at the world community. Iran acts against “common” and accepted ruling of law by submission to the unity of countries in peace through the UN. If they won’t abide, withdrawal from the UN, isolate and live with sanctions.
Too bad it isn’t that easy.

We are the only country who can and should do the right thing. Take out the plants and the remove the mechanisms ASAP. We will abide with the results as we always have.

Last night, in consultation with our most trusted military experts, I acted under my solemn duty as Commander in Chief to defend our nation and its sacred ally. Our allied air and sea based forces launched successful attacks against military and nuclear facilities of the evil izranafashionist regime, halting its weapons development and preventing its imminent massive threat to world peace. Our experts will advise the nation of events as they unfold. Meanwhile, let us stand together in this moment of trial and pray for the safety of our people in uniform. God bless America.

Fox Announcer: Now we turn to America’s Iran experts to discuss the importance of these momentous events. We welcome to our studios General Boykin, Ambassador Bolton, opinion leaders Bill Kristol and David Frum, the most Rev. Pat Robertson, Senator Frist, Congressman Hoekstra, industrialist Ken Lay, defense experts Richard Perle and Michael Ledeen, Iran experts Michael Rubin and Reuel Marc Gerecht, and renouned author Dr. Tim LaHaye. Gentlemen, please share your fair and balanced perspectives on this bold achievement and stride towards world peace.

Experts [choir in unison]: Great, bravo, superb performance, slam dunk, firm fist of the Lord, keep it up, bombs away, final throes, dead enders, dance in the streets. Atheo-librul izranafashionist appeasers to jail. Pray for our Dear Leader. Voters, support he who stands strong. Let’s score one for the Gipper.

The Constitution say the President can’t declare war, but her CAN send troops into a country for a limited amount of time without congresses approval. This has been done manty times. Infact was have only actually declared war 4 times, and considering how many conflicts we have been in that should give you a good idea at how many presidents have used that power.
