The Senate will vote on the confirmation of John Bolton next Thursday, September 7. The Wall Street Journal reports, “Senate vote counters aren’t sure of 60 votes needed to overcome filibuster in floor debate this week. ‘It depends on whether he has won over a Democrat or two,’ says a Republican Senate staffer. Fall campaign pressures, fueled by setbacks in Iraq and elsewhere, won’t help.”
Oh I’m sure he’s won over a Democrat or two.
There always seems to be a surplus of Liebenistic (new word) Democrats to sell out the cause.
Why should this time be any different?
September 1st, 2006 at 3:05 pmBolton shut up or we will put up …….. MR BONKERS BOLTON
September 1st, 2006 at 3:09 pmThe republicans can always count on old Joe Lieberman’s vote.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:12 pmThe neocons in Congress and the Administration did this to themselves.
Why do they always act poorly and then assume their poor decisions will never come back to haunt them?
Had they nominated a true statesman (even from the GOP like Sen. McCain or former Secretary of State Powell) instead of a neocon dittohead, they wouldn’t be in this situation today!
September 1st, 2006 at 3:22 pmNa na na na, na na na na, hey, hey goodbye
September 1st, 2006 at 3:25 pmDepends on the guts of the Republicans more than Democrats.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:28 pmThe first 3 letters of Liebermans name?
LIE.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:28 pmThe man is a neo-con…ergo he is a liar and a misleading shill.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:38 pmBoth McCain and Powell are frauds. The Senator is a war – mongering hypocrite, and Powell knew the WMD treat was bunk. He is a Bush enabller, of the worst kind. The media creates these false imagines. Powell has been a faithful servent of the Bush crime family for years.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:42 pmWith all of the posturing we’ve witnessed this week in the UN’s “walk up to war” with Iran, we can begin to see why it was critical for Dubya to have another “yes man” in that position. Aha! Score one for the people!
September 1st, 2006 at 3:51 pmOk Zooey, I would miss the stache if he loses. And the future recievers of the mustache ride will be deprived.
September 1st, 2006 at 3:58 pmOf the last 5 presidents bushie is second in recess appointments only to Reagan. bushie – around 80 – 61/2 yrs
September 1st, 2006 at 4:07 pmReagan – 242 – 8 yrs
ProudLeftists:
You are correct about them… but… I’ll tell ya what… BOTH… are a HELL of a lot better than Bolton!
September 1st, 2006 at 4:24 pmthe intellectual light-weight bully gets to see if he can get a genuine confirmation rather than the back-door variety conferred by last year’s recess appointment…
and what a shame if he doesn’t get confirmed… it would just RUIN my day… MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
September 1st, 2006 at 4:27 pmI will buy Bolton a one way ticket to Baghdag where he can use his supreme diplomatic skills to bring the invasion to an explosive conclusion by crowning himself Supreme Neocon , in celebration of which we will build a pyre of 10,000 Iraqui women and children to be emolated in retribution for the 9/11 event. A true Crusader can ask for no less from these non christian infidels. The american jesus would approve, I am sure, as would his chosen ruler of FreedomLand, his Chimperial Majesty George the Fool.
September 1st, 2006 at 4:39 pmOk Zooey, I would miss the stache if he loses. And the future recievers of the mustache ride will be deprived.
Comment by For Truth
Did someone say my name!?
For Truth, all I’ve got to say is — Thanks, TP! — no picture! My recovery from the obsession over Bolton’s mustache is secure….for now. :)
September 1st, 2006 at 4:39 pmBolton is as dangerous as any of them. His demoralizing routines in the UN continue to underserve our imminent priority of winning hearts and minds. How is it even possible for such an abbrasive and seemingly incompetent individual to get nominated to such a crucial role?
Alternative nominees? Paula Dobriansky? Richard Haass? Amo Houghton?
September 1st, 2006 at 4:43 pmLieberman will vote for him
September 1st, 2006 at 5:17 pmHopefully, Congress now realizes the “why” of an individual like John Bolton in that CRITICAL position and will vote him down.
September 1st, 2006 at 5:18 pm#19 – suggie,
September 1st, 2006 at 9:29 pmIts not “why”, its “wrong”.
suggie,
September 1st, 2006 at 9:31 pmSorry I did not respond sooner, but I have 23 open threads.
I hope their fears are realized and Bolton loses – but I have already heard that some Dems are thinking “he’s not so bad” any more.
September 1st, 2006 at 10:23 pmIt seems like wishful thinking to believe Yosemite Sam won’t be there until Bushie leaves office.
BTW, if the Decider should decide to declare “victory” in Iraq and draw down or redeploy troops, will that give him the open door to attacking Iran?
Can Reid come up with 41 to vote no? Or will the Dems roll over right before an election and give us no reason to vote for them? Their is no upside to confirm him,
September 1st, 2006 at 11:52 pmeven in the reddest state!
Maybe there are a precious few Republicans who are beginning to understand that supporting GWB’s choices, no matter what, has not been the best decision they ever made. Perhaps there are some who are beginning to question BushCo’s grasp on reality, and the price we are all paying for their disasterous decisions, and the dogged determination they have to continue on, without regard for the consequences. Add to that a cynical need to keep their jobs, and an actual track record of Bolton’s ‘performance’ on the job, and we might actually stand a pretty good chance of sending this guy home. I hope Lieberman does vote for him. Ned Lamont needs all the help he can get, and ‘Mr.Independant’, basically voting to support GWB can only help.
September 2nd, 2006 at 5:17 amBolton is a weak, asskissing neocon. I am thinking that the democrats will see that he is not the man, but leave him in there to continue his losing ways.
I saw him give a short news conference the other day and boy did he lie. He said Russion was with the US on imposing strong sanctions against Iran. Russia said they were not for imposing strong sanction.
Neither is China. We are flirting with disaster in the US because of the presence of Bolton, and as weak and useless as he is, he has got to go.
We need a strong diplomat in that position, not an asskissing idiot neocon.
September 2nd, 2006 at 9:23 amBolton, like all of bull shit bush’s apointees is nothing more than a inept bully. He has no social or leadership skill’s and bush put him in there just to tear down the UN, if possible…..One more step toward’s full dictatorship by bush’s handlers..All secretive and corrupt actions to take over and control the american public….Dismantel and remove any and all that could pose a threat to their take over…….How all this play’s out is going to be interesting, not pleasent but interesting…The bottom line is how many on bothe sides are going to continue to support the bush regime……..Stay awake fellow poster’s ” We are in for a bumpie ride”…….Blessings…Peace for the children of the world………Note all the Lebanon new’s is silent…..What will it be next.?
September 2nd, 2006 at 9:44 amBolton can go seek employment as a greeter at a Wal-Mart superstore, or he can be a fry cook at McDonald’s! Bye bye John you damn creepy fascist!
