Writer of ABC’s 9/11 ‘Docudrama’ Is Avowed Conservative Activist

Path to 9/11 graphicABC will air a “docudrama” next weekend called “The Path to 9/11″ which blames President Clinton for the 9/11 attacks while praising President Bush.

The writer of the movie is an unabashed conservative named Cyrus Nowrasteh. Last year, Nowrasteh spoke on a panel titled, “Rebels With a Cause: How Conservatives Can Lead Hollywood’s Next Paradigm Shift.” He has described Michael Moore as “an out of control socialist weasel,” and conducted interviews with right-wing websites like FrontPageMag.

The problem isn’t that Nowrasteh is conservative. The problem is that Nowrasteh and ABC are representing “The Path to 9/11″ as an unbiased historical drama. Promos for the movie say it is “based on the 9/11 Commission Report.” Nowrasteh claims he “wanted to match the just-the-facts tone of the report,” and describes the project as “an objective telling of the events of 9/11.”

Here’s some of the objectivity you can expect: Nowrasteh says the film shows how Clinton had “frequent opportunities…in the 90s to stop Bin Laden in his tracks — but lacked the will to do so.” He has referenced Clinton’s “lack of response” to Al Qaeda “and how this emboldened Bin Laden to keep attacking American interests.” A review today in Salon.com says the film paints Clinton “as a buffoon more interested in blow jobs than terrorists.”

Republicans also missed Bin Laden at Tora Bora and also his hospital bed in Saudi having Dialasis from and American Doctor

This was deliberate as with bin Laden captured it was time to leave Afghanistan and a big gas pipeline chance wasted

Also Bin Laden is dead so you should leave anyway – your not paying the warlords backsheesh anymore like the last elections….. Afghanistan will be free next elections …….Unless America installs a dictator ???? as in 43 other countries since 1945

  5. suggie says:

How desperate can they get? As anyone knows, each president inherits both good and bad from his predecessor. (perhaps clinton should blame it all on Papa Bush now??) The true measure of a president’s performance, aka his “legacy”, is the measure of his accomplishments during the time he was in office, regardless of what his “inheritance” was from the President he followed. It’s really as simple as that and certainly levels the playing field for evaluating each one on their own merit.

To say that Dubya has nothing positive he can tout is an understatement so it’s clear that this “activist” is digging deep to besmerch the character of Bill Clinton. Give the american people some credit for a moderate amount of intelligence, please! We can clearly see the “blame game” in all it’s glory every day of the week and now will see through the tactics of this docu-whatever-you want-to-call-it.

In fact, this will only serve to highlight the worthless “blame game” which is characteristic of this administration. The old “PASS THE BUCK” theory. By now the american people have caught on though and will hold this man totally accountable for his errors in judgment, lies, and treachery. And, absolutely NO ONE ELSE! He’s the President now and the buck does stop there!

What are his outstanding accomplishments to date??????????Just wondering…

The Repbulicans are so desperate, they’re throwing out crap to see if any of it will stick, and it DOES land on about 35% of the population. What angers me most is that ABC is even thinking of airing it. Is there a petition somewhere we can sign?

    911 happened on Chimpy’s watch. Not Clinton’s.

Interesting story about Clinton and Osama. The CIA had a bead on Osama and wanted to kill him. They went to Clinton for the OK.

Clinton had to let Osama go. Not because he’s weak on terrorism. Because Osama was entertaining half the Dubai royal family and Clinton couldn’t kill them too.

Now Chimpy is letting Dubai buy up all our ports. The same Dubya Ports World that bungled security in Yemen and let terrorists blow up the USS Cole.

Yeah right, Clinton’s fault. What a load of bullshit.

  12. Al Gore says:

ABC is releasing this in reaction to the Fed’s offering a “9/11 conspiracy theory” rebuttal.

Also, ABC has over the years has set out to prove “conspiracies” wrong, i.e. Kennedy assasination, and the Faked moon landing. Tons of mis-information and flat out lie’s.

  19. proudleftists says:

It’s just more of the liberal media .

  20. Kelley says:

What do you care to wager that this shameful excuse for journalism fails to mention the fact that Bush kept postponing meetings with Richard Clark regarding terrorist threats to the US until 9/11 occurred? I’s also wager there’s no mention of Bush’s meeting with an unnamed CIA staffer who flew to his Texas ranch to call his attention to the August 6, 2001 memo entitled “Bin Laden determined to strike in US.” Bush told that staffer that he had “covered his ass.”

Bet that didn’t make it into the film

Even if Clinton wanted to do something about bin Laden, the current terror hawks were so busy worrying about his blow jobs, and tying him up in unncessary, partisan litigation that he could not have dealt with the issue if he wanted to. Nope, sorry, Clinton is definintely not to blame for 9/11. It was under his watch that the appropriate intelligence was gathered. Bush, then as now, ignored it.

  21. Al Gore says:

At least CLinton tried to get Bin Laden. Bush and Co dont seem to care about killing/catching him. They have spend nearly a trillion dollars that has only made up worse off. If you blame Clinton, a president who was tring to kill the leaders of Al Quada, you are very, very stupid or just plane brainwashed. Yes Clinton could have done more, but Bush and co. have done nothing!

911 was an inside job. Government power, oil, banking, military power, and defence contracts, all had some kind of hand in making 911 an inside job. Whether they know it or not.

  22. Tom3 says:

Manuel, you are a Chimpyloving moron.

Michael Moore financed his own independent film on 911. It was not broadcast on an American TV network (It probably never will be). Moore even had problems with a distributor trying to back out on him. And Michael Moore is up front about being partisan. He never claimed 911 was going to be neutral.

This conservative jackass claims he will be neutral and he obviously isn’t. And he’s getting this played on a TV network. This is a huge difference.

911 happened on Chimpy’s watch. Chimpy ignored warnings. Chimpy sat in a school room reading My Pet Goat for seven minutes after the second plane hit.

911 is NOT Clinton’s fault, and anybody who says otherwise is a lying sack of shit.

  23. Samuel Knight says:

Michael Moore isn’t neutral, but he’s factual. 9-11 was a documentary. This is shoddy little docudrama with fake facts slipped in.

Bummer for you right wingers, isn’ it? Michael Moore that left wing looney get his facts right.

A London defense lawyer for a 17-year-old suspect who cannot be named told the newspaper police had misconstrued evidence when they charged her client with “possession of items that would be of use to terrorism.”

Gareth Peirce criticized police for calling documents found in the youth’s home “suicide notes” signed by other young Muslim men preparing to die.

“They’re not suicide notes at all,” Peirce said. “They’re really simple wills. To call these suicide notes was absolutely disgraceful.”

  26. George W. Bush says:

I want to thank the makers of this fine film for pointing out that I personally stopped those terrorists from attacking us on 9/11, and have gone on to spread democracy through the Middle East, and have rid the world of evil.

First by way of a quick object lesson-example, think Rathergate and the phony memos.

Second, Fox is the most watched news – at least on cable & sat. That makes them “Number 1″ in the ratings. The reason for their success is most liekly due to Americans dislike of the liberal & already dying MSM. The Path to 9/11 is executive-produced by Marc Platt (Empire Falls). The producers are Hans Proppe (Anne Frank) and Cyrus Nowrasteh (also the writer); and Governor Thomas H. I’m not sure if the blame game is right for 9/11. Terrorism plots are hard to crack, they only need to get it right once and they got it right on that day. To put some context around that, most of the people I know in the UK don’t blame our government for failing to stop the 7/7 tube bombings – the debate on whether the Iraq war was a root cause is something for another board I feel.

It’s bloody hard task for the security forces and it’s got to be about lessons learnt rather than who was responsible. We learnt the hard way during the troubles and are still learning. Does blaming the government – whoever is heading it up – help? I’d say no.

ukdave – all the signals were there in 2001. they did nothing. in 1999, the millenium bomb was foiled because the clinton admin reacted by ’shaking the trees’ of all the law enforcement agencies. so yes, how an admin responds is important. the anger you read here is caused by that and by the bushevik’s subsequent attempt to cover-up or smear anyone who told them ‘i told you so’ in 2001.

With all that in mind, I think the very worst was pure incompetence. For a Government to perform such a crime against its own people would require the mother of all coverups. I don’t think it could happen, especially considering how much US agencies seem to leak – reference to the arrests of suspected bombers in the UK. I’m sure I saw a thread on thinkprogress about this. If not, let me know and I’ll tell you the perspective from the UK. Apparently our security agencies are fuming.

What you hear about “Bristol Citys” is spot on. Also the name of the Football (sorry, soccer) team I follow. I’m sure you can guess some of the chants we get at away matches…

    Trueblue

the word in the UK is that the security forces were all over these alleged plotters and looking to see what they could learn. Apparently, when the information was shared with US security forces, they started dropping massive hints that something was happening. Therefore, the UK had to move and arrest before the suspects got spooked, ruining the information gathering opp we had.

If that’s right, what happened was a disgrace. The “War on terror” isn’t about invading countries that aren’t a threat. It’s about intelligence gathering.

  116. TerrytheTurtle says:

ukdave – the ‘pnac’ lays out in cold terms what the war on terror is about and everything the us does is designed for us domestic opinion – sorry to say but the brits are george bush’s fig leaf – nothing more.

pure incompetence, must be feeling ‘nice’ today. come on. besides the fact that he sat reading the kids about a pet goat he also let ‘hijacked’ planes fly in the no fly zone and circle our skies doing f-16 maneuvers for over 45 min WITHOUT dispatching any interceptors (jets). now that is complete derelicition of duty. so that must have been just incompetence. so, everything regarding 9/11, katrina, economy, enviorment, must be incompetence. so why do they pick and choose what is going to be aired. and when something is found out to be incriminating they take it off the air or put it in a secret holding spot just hoping the public will not find it. that must be what they did with the missile hitting the pentagon(big blue tarp and all the tapes over 20 something if i heard right that was focused on the pentagon. only 2 were shown. and when the missile hit the pentagon it just so hit the only side that was renovated to be made stronger. and if the so called plane was a transatlantic flight why didn’t it blow up into a fireball and burn like the wtc. the evidence is out there. between that, history(the players in the whitehouse and who they represent) and some common sense will tell you that this was in fact the worst state sponsored terror attack on american soil.

I agree. The only way to be safe in the “War on Terror” is to actually have WMD. The US and the UK have started a arms race which is unprecedented in it’s scope. Believe me, I don’t back this sh1t.

The worrying thing is that the (informed) population know about the Latin American disgraces and seem to ignore it. This is still why I think 9/11 isn’t a cover up. Enough free press still covers this stuff. Yes Bush robbed Florida. Yes he robbed Ohio 4 years later. I just don’t think it’s possible to have done 9/11 and covered it up.

They have the oil, the future contracts to rebuild Iraq, another base in the region, etc. It will never happen that way with China, for example. These guys (Bush Jr. not included) know exactly what they are doing.

I hate both Man Utd and Chelsea as does every real Football fan.

  158. JFH says:

On the 11th of September, 2001, when I heard on the radio that a second plane struck the World Trade Center, I immediately opened telnet and logged in to the MUD that I used to frequent. A lot of the players there were New Yorkers and I wished to offer my support to them and to follow it as closely as possible, despite being an ocean away.

I have no doubt that the ultimate responsability lies with the hijackers. Even if there’s a money trial back to Osama, it leaves open the possibility that the hijackers contacted Osama with the idea for the attack. Consider also for a moment what difference in impact it would have made if Osama had not released any video’s. In that case it would still be as horrible as it is, but with the video’s come the idea’s of a neatly organized, professional terrorist group that’s able to do the impossible.

Nevertheless, I would gladly hear the facts around the no-fly zone and the lack of interceptors. What seems to me to turn out to be the likely explanation is that no-one (with sufficient ranks to call the shots) anticipated that the planes would be utilized as weapons, as the traditional hijacking usually ends with the plane landing somewhere and negotiations start to get the hostages freed. With fighters close to a hijacked plane and flying above an urban area the last thing you want is anyone of either side getting nervous and doing something that leads to a plane crash.

Because Bush and the neocons are generally sloppy, negligent, incompetent and far too transparent in their war-, fear- & hatemongering to actually plan something like some 9/11, let alone execute it. With Bush sitting in that classroom, staring in disbelief, I was reminded to Stalin’s reaction when he heard that the Germans where invading. He ran off to one of his retreats and took more than a couple of days to be persuaded to lead the USSR through the war. It’s also of note to how devoted Bush is to success in Afghanistan, see how many coalition troops are on the ground there.

As for Clinton, he’s been the only American president during my life-time whom I wouldn’t hesitate to call competent. I know he cannot be reelected, but who cares, let’s have him back!

Nowrasteh will probably paint a picture that’s historically accurate. Or, rather, accurate enough to make it difficult to spot the lie, the spin and the implications for the intended audience. It’s a tasteless part of the hate campaigns revolving around demonizing your opponent rather than by winning on ones own merits. Tsk!

    Blame them both

Although I despise Bush’s actions as president, I blame Clinton and Bush equally for 911.

The first responsibility of a national leader is to lock down security and then to spread goodwill and happiness so that no one wants to attack your country.

BTW, the so-called War on Terror is a ludicrous, immoral, counterproductive, overreaction to 911.

But why not go back to Reagan, and the policies that made Bin Laden what he is today?

Indeed, if you wish, you can go back to the carving up of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWII and the creation of the State of Israel and blame everyone involved in those diplomatic discussions!

How about going back to Moses, who led the invasion into Israel way back when? Or Abraham, who said God told him the land would belong to his descendants forever? Hmmm…I guess that means you’d have to blame God!

    Sharon,

I’m curious. What’s with the buttermilk and straw?

    #2 Buttermilk
    #3 Mayonaise

So Michael Moore is accused of being a liar and a traitor – but this guy is truthful and honest?
This looks to be pure propaganda, but some in the audience will lap it up, and the pimps on Fox, and talk radio will promote it, advertise it, and claim it is gospel.
Fahrenheit 9-11 had to be seen in a theater (paid admissions) no one was forced to see it, nor were they able to see it by chance from their la-z-y boys. This propaganda, absolving Bushie of anything and everything, while blaming Clinton for everything and anything will be on network tv, no cable necessary, no admission ticket, and can be seen by anyone with a tv set.

In thinking over the topic of this “docudrama” or hit piece against Clinton while being pro Bush, I always wonder that if everyone wants to blame Clinton, where were the Republicans in control of your House and Senate for the time of Clinton’s presidency? I don’t remember all the republicans being in a flack about terrorism, other than when Clinton bombed Iraq, and he was accused of “wagging the dog” over Lewinsky and Trent Lott stood on cable news and stated that he could support the troops without supporting the President. So, if this gentleman is going to blame Clinton, does not the blame also go hand and hand to Republican lawmakers who did absolutely nothing much for eight years other than figuring out how they could impeach Clinton? Where was their concern over the safety of their country during that time? Seems it is great to look backwards and pass on the blame to the opposing party, all the while absolving yourself of any, but if they want to lay the blame at the feet of Clinton, then the Republican controlled House and Senate should be held accountable as well to the same extent they want to bestow on Clinton.

9/11 Commission Report : the best FICTION read of 2004!

  256. 9/11 terrorist attacks on Bush's watch says:

US air officials had warnings of al-Qaida threat prior to 9/11

“Aviation officials in the US received multiple warnings that al-Qaida could strike through airline hijackings in the months leading up to the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
More than 50 warnings about the terror group and its leader, Osama bin Laden, were given to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) between April and September 10 2001, according to documents released by the 9/11 commission that investigated the attacks.

Five of the warnings made reference to al-Qaida’s training of hijackers and two detailed suicide operations that were not connected to aviation.

However, officials were “lulled into a false sense of security”, and “intelligence that indicated a real and growing threat leading up to 9/11 did not stimulate significant increases in security procedures”, the commission report, written last August, said.

The report gives more details than had been included in the 9/11 commission’s overall report, which was released in July. The Bush administration blocked the public release of the full version of the report for more than five months.

It reveals that, in spring 2001, the FAA had warned US airports that hijackers intending to commit suicide “in a spectacular explosion” would be most likely to select domestic targets. The FAA is criticised for being more concerned with reducing airline congestion, lessening delays, and easing airlines’ financial problems than with deterring a terrorist attack.

The report also accuses the authority of failing to pursue domestic security measures that could have helped counter the threats that led to September 11. Such actions could have included the toughening of airport screening procedures for weapons or expanding the use of on-flight air marshals, it said.”

  272. jakester26 says:

During the Cold War terrorism was treated as a criminal act rather then political because is allowed the both Democratic and Republican administrations to ignore Soviet participation. Treating Badar Meinhof and Brigatta Rosa bombings and hijackings as the aberrant behavior of misguided thugs prevented a face-off with a nuclear power.

Cold Warriors viewed the world in a binary manner, the West v. the USSR. Mutually Assured Destruction, appropriately called MAD, demanded that neither side confront the other in any direct way. Viet Nam and Afghanistan were surrogate arenas.

The flaw was that neither side paid much attention to the idea that there could be a third player in the game. Nor did they appreciate the impact removing the nuclear threat and the strict controls of the KGB could have on this third force. I refer to what some call Islam-Fascism.

The Clinton administration’s “Chinese Wall” between the foreign intelligence services and the nation security apparatus such as the FBI was a natural outgrowth of the decision to treat terrorist acts, at home or abroad, as purely criminal matters. Any cooperation in investigations that led to a trial would hand the defense team immediate grounds for appeal in our courts.

The Bush administration, like the Clinton administration before it, was served by agencies steeped in more then thirty years of policy. That policy, which made sense when first set in place in the 1970’s, ill served the nation in 2001.

According to the author’s own account of the mini-series, the first night does not look good for the Clinton’s and the second night does not look good for the Bushies, either.

In my opinion, the attack was a symbolic one, against the Twin Towers. Those towers could have been in downtown Everytown, USA, and they would have gone.

    Comment by Zooey — September 1, 2006 @ 11:31 pm

You have nailed it, Zooey. To the Wahabi’s the Towers epitomize the godless Western dominates the world and led to corruption of Mullahs. In one attack they hit the symbolic center of capitalism, the nucleas of the Great Satin’s military, and apparently meant to hit either the White House or the Capitol building.

There was a poetic touch in their selection of targets. Also, note the date was 911; the number that all American’s know is to be used only in dire emergencies.

This situation is becoming very serious, but will never be fully resolved. Even if Bush, Cheney, Rumsfelt were to confess to planning and carrying out the 9/11 attacks on national TV, some people would still not accept it. They’d say Bush and Co. were hypnotised or threatened. But suppose it could be proved that the Bush administration were behind 9/11, wouldn’t this provoke an identity crisis among segments of the US population? From one perspective the false flag nature of the operation was the worst aspect. Early days, but commit the crime of the century and lay the blame on others. How much worse can it get? I’m starting to wonder if many US citizens would be too ashamed to be Americans. So what do we have? Break up of the US into separate countries? When you look into the abyss too long the abyss starts to look into you.

    Comment by EMICK — September 2, 2006 @ 1:45 pm

Interesting point, EMICK. I recalled there was some controversy around the release of Mr. Moore’s film, so I looked it up. I found a fascinating article on the bbc site:

Fahrenheit 9/11 became the subject of a bitter dispute even before its release. The film had been scheduled to be distributed by Miramax, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Corporation. Alarmed by the movie’s contentious content, Disney executives ordered Miramax to withdraw from the deal. As the much-publicised Fahrenheit 9/11 distribution dispute escalated, Moore claimed that he was being censored. The row continued during the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, at which Fahrenheit 9/11 was premiered to huge acclaim, winning the Palme D’Or – the Cannes Festival’s top prize.

Alternative distribution was found, and Fahrenheit 9/11 received its US release in late June 2004. Right-wing groups lobbied cinemas to boycott the movie, and some cinemas did indeed refuse to show it.

So, what do you know? The very company that refused to distribute Fahrenheit 9/11 is now releasing a “docudrama” laying the blame on the Clintons!

And, though the article does not name names, it does cite “Right-wing groups” who lobbied cinemas to boycott the movie, and succeeded in getting some cinemas to refuse to show it.

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Comment by EMICK

And you would be well served if you took your own advice.

To add to post #338. Mel Gibson’s production company, Icon pictures, was originally slated to distribute Fahrenheit 9/11. That is until Gibson got a call from administration/White House officials pressuring him NOT to. Mel gave in. Gibson later claimed that he and Moore shared a kinship, (after Gibson had some controversy over his own “Passion”). That is when I stopped thinking of Mr. Gibson as a good guy. I believe, (I know, who cares?), that Mr. Moore’s film had alot of relevant stuff, and some crap, that all Americans should have had access to, many could just not afford even the 7.25 a ticket matinee prices. Moore is not really a socialist weasel, he is a capitalist weasel. His 9/11 movie could have been a true self-sacrificial display of his allegedly deep patriotism / love of country, had the movie been screened for free for anyone to see. But, there was money to be made, and the need for profits will always outweigh the importance of any message, of any allegiance, of any patriotic declaration. But the crap that ABC is airing is sure “free” enough, isn;t it? Clint IS an ***hole too, by the way.

OK, fair enough, I’ll try to sit though this guy’s repugnant twist on things — just don’t call it NEWS, call it opinion. Fahrenheit 9/11 was a movie, you had to pay good money to go see it, it was presented by a public figure widely known to have controversial opinions. Everybody who saw it knew what they were in for before they even hopped in the car to go to the Multiplex. ABC is airing THIS propoganda as news, and that’s what I have a problem with. How close are we to state-run media???

  314. Linda says:

This comment is specifically in response to coachjason. The difference between Fahrenhit 911 and this movie is that Michael Moore put his documentary in the movie theatre where you had to pay to see it. If you didn’t want to see it, you didn’t have to pay. ABC is airing this over the public airways. That’s an entirely different proposition. I will not look at any movie that politicizes 9/11. Afterall, 9/11 happened to ALL Americans. We all felt the indescribable pain of that day. It is still very raw for me and I do not want anyone to use it to promote their on sick partisan agenda. Republicans are desperate people. They realize that they squandered their last best opportunity to rule. Their greed and hatred for working people caused them to go too far and now their reality is that it will be many many years before they are in power again. (Assuming they aren’t allowed to steal another election.) Run your stupid movie. We are smart enough to see through your lies. Don’t you get it yet? Thinking people will never be duped again. 317. jonas says:

The guy probably is biased – HOWEVER – avowed liberals write ‘docudramas’ all the time for television. Secondly, Clinton did have something to do with 9/11. Your saying that Clinton had this country wrapped up tight, safe and sound from any terrorist attack, then Bush came in and tore all the defenses down in 8 months? C’mon.

Clinton’s attitude of letting Bin Laden go, despite having at least 2 golden opportunities to get him allowed Al Queda to grow and move forward with 9/11, which they had been planning for at least 2 years. Which puts us back to 1999. If you’ll check the record books, Clinton was President at that time.

I’m not saying that GWB is right in everything or that he’s done a perfect job, but whitewashing Clinton’s utter failure to address terrorism is ridiculous. He is culpable for a lot of things.

Again, not everything Clinton did was bad, but his well-documented bouts of indecision allowed Bin Laden to do what he did. Terrorism was not created by GWB, despite what the Democrats tell you.

Cyrus has privately propagated that slavery should have continued, blacks should not have been given equal rights, and the USA should take over the entire Middel-East. Cyrus likes people in power and he and his family were enamored by the Shah that they conider themselves as Bushies and part of the ruling class. Everyone, the best suggestion I’ve seen yet is to boycott the sponsors, but I would go one step further…

Email the sponsor’s corporate boards that they’re being boycotted and maybe they should think twice before their stockholders get wind of it.

Face it, a threat from their stockholders is really the only thing they will listen to.

I am a liberal, and let’s face it, Clinton did nothing about OBL…and neither did the W. Bush administration. Stop pointing fingers. We ALL blew it. We all missed the signs. And forget about Bush, Sr. He loved OBL for taking on the Soviets! All of us, including our leaders, were too busy watching our AOL stocks and bathing in money to worry about the rest of the newly-globalized world. Remember?

As for the Michael Moore/Nowrasteh argument: The difference is in how they’re pitched. I sincerely doubt anyone went to Farenheit 9/11 expecting an unbiased POV. It was pitched as a Michael Moore film, so you know what you are getting into (btw, I thought the film was poorly made…Bowling for Columbine was for more lucid and focused). The TV doc was not pitched as, you know, “From the mind of Cyrus Nowrasteh”. He is not an infamous household name. This was a stealth move. Completely underhanded and disgraceful. If Nowrasteh was the publicity hound Moore was, and we all knew his take, this would have been more acceptable.

Anyway…please, Hollywood, give us something between Moore and Nowrasteh! Just the facts. Just the facts.

  337. Roger C says:

If we want to use a film to get us up in arms we need to focus on V for Vendetta. The people must stop being sheep. Have we become lazy because of the Internet? We vent in words while actions go by the wayside. Words are great but they do not seem to stir people like they did when Martin Luther King was around. He had people getting off their butts and DOING something. Had we used the Internet to express our feelings during the sixties the Vietnam War might still be raging. Come on sheep, organize and march on DC an throw the bums out. BTW, I will never watch ABC again.

  338. Jim says:

More liberal Censorship. We’ll never hear the phrase “Free Speech” come from the left in this “controversy”!

  339. Wally says:

George Bush was president for 9 months before 9/11 took place. He was not there for just a month, two, or even three months. He had time to do something and he was apprised of signs that something might happen but he was too focused on his “Leave no child behind” plan.

I believe ABC is about to air a slanderous program that won’t even mention why George Bush should have known something might happen or how aggravated he was that his press conference, to discuss “Leave no child behind” with school children on 9/11, was interrupted.

I also doubt ABC will mention anything about the fact that Osama Bin Laden was backed by President Reagan and the Republicans.

If ABC does air this program I will never again watch shows like; “Good Morning America” and the “ABC Evening News”. Then I hope the whole nation joins in boycotting Disney and ABC and that they pay the price for their subversion.

Broadcasting companies should not take sides with politics!

  340. sdemetri says:

Free speech, Jim? Is deliberately perpetrating a falsehood in a forum such as the ABC television network protected speech? Left, right or center has nothing to do with this. Are you happy with being lied to?

  341. Pissed Off Patriot says:

The automatic knee jerking that both Republicans and Democrats resort to is what is tearing this country apart. The constant smear tactics and mud slinging combined with the support of our so called non biased media is the rot of this country. If I speak out against our president (I have a right to, I voted for him) I am automatically labeled a bleeding heart liberal and if I say homosexuality is wrong ( I’m sorry but I don’t want my daughter becoming a purple lipped lesbian) I am labeled a religious nut or homophobic. It is a shame that exercising my rights as an American causes others to believe me a bad person or anti American. There is no room for mixed views in our politically correct Reb/Dem country. It seems that free speech is only free if know one hears you and true liberty is only achieved if you are alone on a deserted island. Our government is like professional wrestling. Both sides continue to find new ways to fool and entertain the people who pay the ticket. Behind the smoke and mirrors they pat each other on the back and smile because know the sheep will follow anybody that has a stick with a bell on it.

Our elected officials should be finding ways to improve our system of government and our quality of life instead of spending our tax dollars on political party bashing. Our corporate leaders should stick to finding ways to make money and stay out of politics. Our entertainment companies like Disney should stick to entertainment and stay out of politics. Life in America is like watching a bad reality show. It is painful to watch yet know one is willing to get off there ass and change the channel plus there are only 2 channels to choose from and it’s the same old cow pie flipped over.

  342. Jason says:

Apparently you don’t have a problem with Michael Moore does a hatchet job on President Bush. So why are you complaining about the way President Clinton is treated in this docudrama? Have you even seen the mini-series yet or are you just taking the word of a few partisan hacks?

  343. Ralph Davis says:

Nobody except the liberal left considers this mini series anything like the truth. Its not NEWS for God’s sake its a mini-series!. You idiots didn’t bitch about the lies about President Bus in Michael Moores’ movie so – Get over it!

This latest ideological crusade blames the Clinton administration for 9/11, by treating history as if it were a Disney fairy tale that could be changed for any story line. [...]

  346. Kirk says:

You people are all NUTS!!!! I’m shocked at some of your statements that you actually can believe. Micheal Moore’s film 911 is mostly all facts – George Bush was to blame for Katrina, and so on. Where do you get all your facts and in any disaster when is it the responsibilty of the federal goverment to remove people from harm. Have you ever heard of local and state goverments? And they cannot force people out, it is the individual’s responsiblity to get out. But OH NO George Bush caused it and he is to blame, if he would of tried to send in federal troops to assist in the evacuation without the approval of the Governer then you people would of have a field day. Put blame where blame is do – The individual’s along with Ray Nagen and the Governer.

  347. Margaret Cook says:

I hardly believe that the majority of conservatives out there WON’T believe it. I live in South Dakota, in Rapid City, an area considered to be less conservative than the rest of the state and I talk with people and work with people every day who believe there is a hold on the media by the liberal left, never heard that our president was a cheerleader, don’t really know why Dan Rather was fired but he had it coming and live every day by some false code called Christianity, which allows them to think that they are the chosen.
Where is the liberal media? As a former broadcaster I would like to know because I would really enjoy listening to it. I don’t know how anyone can say that there is a liberal hold on the media. When you can drive from Washington State to Minnesota listening to nothing but Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly and others of the same ilk back to back non-stop on the commercial public airwaves, you CAN’T tell ME that there is a liberal hold on the media. Oh, yeah, I can listen to Al Franken if I have a little extra cash. And I can get more from The Daily Show and Bill Maher. I don’t include Colbert because he picks on everyone and most conservatives don’t seem to know what a parody is.
I watched Katie Couric’s tepid and non-newsy interview with the president the other night, plus listened to what she had to say about us being safer. There was a lot of empty information and not one journalist in the whole piece asked the president why when he talks about Iraq he talks about Bin Laden, who is still on the loose, 5 years later. We are just now turning to Afghanistan(can you tell it’s election time?)when our focus should have been there from the very beginning. One minute we were talking about the war in Iraq and the next minute we were in Afghanistan. Then the journalist brought us back to the war on terrorism in Iraq. I don’t think people really think that the war against terrorism should be in Afghanistan instead of Iraq and many of the hijackers were Saudis, nearly kin to the Bush dynasty. People don’t really seem to care that we are in the wrong place fighting the wrong war. American people read about as much as Dubya and that is why it is absolutely essential that Journalism remembers the 3 Great Rules: Accuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy. It’s a terrible thing when the American people would impeach a president over a sexual indiscretion and revere one who at the very least is secretive and very undiplomatic(not a good quality in the man leading the so-called “free world”). I live in the heart of red country and I can tell you that these people will continue to vote the liars in to office because they are the same people who will protect your right not to have Bill and Fred living next to you and having children. They are the same people who won’t allow your children’s school to teach tolerance by studying different religions and cultures. To heck with war, any war, who cares as long as you don’t have to compete with Jose, Mary or LeRoy for a job. Come and visit me at the base of the Shine of Democracy and tell me that there’s reason in the things our leaders do. There’s only one word for all of it: Avarice. When your opponents have decided that the only way they’ll win the game is by lying, stealing elections and presenting false information as factual, then you will never have a chance of winning if you play by the rules. That’s one thing the right-wing has learned. Declare yourself a Christian and somehow your motives don’t come under any kind of scrutiny. Have we learned nothing from history? I’m disgusted!

  348. John D'Onofrio says:

I subscribe to MoveOn.Org and I’m surprised at the reaction to this ABC special. What happened to the first amendment? Why are we all of a sudden crying for censorship of ABC. Are we that thin skinned that we can’t just discuss and condemn the docudrama? Trying to stop this might show that we are the wackos and not the conservatives.

  349. michael mun says:

though this seems radical, I’d prefer to watch what the Republicans have come up with. Our constitution gives everyone the right to free speech (whether true or false). Petitions like this gives us the information that the docudrama is false and we should watch (or not watch) in our own discretion. This event will be an ongoing conspiracy theorists’ dream and films like this will continue to come out, we can’t always hide or run away from the opposition.

  350. wally says:

    Ralph doesn’t see the difference?
He says “Nobody except the liberal left considers this mini series anything like the truth, Its not NEWS for God’s sake its a mini-series!”
    - But its being presented as a documentary that should be the truth and many will believe that ABC and its news staff tries to present the truth (which will no longer be the case if the content is as some, including an FBI agent, have stated is not the truth).

“You idiots didn’t bitch about the lies about President Bus in Michael Moores’ movie so – Get over it!”
    - But plenty of conservatives did complain about Moore’s movie (a movie I never saw) which they would have paid to see while this will be presented over the public airwaves and is being advertised as a factual 9/11 documentary, not a piece of fiction. Doesn’t he remember the complaint from the Catholic Church over the fictional “DaVinci Code” movie shown in theaters?

If Republicans want this to be shown, let them at least take it to the theaters.

  351. Betsy J. says:

I’ll watch. I want to know what *%^# Republican conservatives are going to bring up in conversation so I can counterpoint. One fact remains, Iraq didn’t begin in Clinton’s administration. Katrina didn’t happen in Clinton’s administration. The deficit greatly expanded in Bush’s administration (remember the bribe we got when he took the office the first time?) I want to see a timeline of all the things Bush/Cheney/Rummy have done. 100 years from now my great grandchildren will be saying “You’ve got to be kidding, that was a stupid and irresponsible thing to do”. Name your issue.

  352. TS says:

The whole thing is disasterous in so many ways, not that it’s particularly wise to get your news from a docudrama or from ABC. The inherent nature of a docudrama means that scenes are made up to fill in the blanks, and it’s rare that they aren’t completely facricated and/or completely misleading.

For people interested in getting it yanked, it’s being petitioned away. I haven’t got anything from any conservative groups yet, though I probably will soon, but you can sign moveon’s petition by clicking here:

It’s great when the conservatives and the liberals get fired up about something, because what they say in their e-mails is so very different.

The internet and political activism rocks. Two bucks says even if its yanked it’ll end up on utube. The radio this morning thinks the thing will be just as bad if not worse for bush, but I don’t think so. The man’s ratings may be dropping but considering all that he’s done, and what the general public reaction has been, he’s still pretty teflon.

  353. thomas jacoby says:

I think the film is likely a load of nonsense…but what really bothers me is how few of my fellow Americans can spell (in English). Conservatives and liberals alike seem to be grammar, punctuation, and spelling-impaired. Sigh.

  354. TS says:

Apparently I can’t close an ahref tag to save my life.

    @Thomas Jacoby
You’re right–about me anyway. I can’t spell to save my life, in fact my spelling is so bad I use google search as my spell checker. We all have faults.

    Kirk
Amen! I don’t know where the liberal media conspiracy is. I’ve been told that Fox is it’s headquarters, and let me tell you, they’re doing a fantastic job of blending in and laying low.

I get my news from NPR. I live in Los Angeles, so I cant get multiple NPR stations, and at night, they broadcast BBC World News, so I love listening to the news. The only TV news shows that I watch are the Daily Show and The Colbert Report. If there’s an important enough clip, someone will send my a utube link, or it’ll show up on Comedy Central.

Sad, but true. BBC is also great because they have fantastic accents. If you’re an actor, trying to learn a modern accent, you could probably learn most of them from listening to BBC .

  355. william Edwards says:

To ” Midwestblue “. Yes there is a Petition you can sign. Go to ” Moveon.org political action ” and sign on the petition.
TO ” coachjason “. Big difference on Farenheight 9/11 you dumb asshole. Moore showed the real JERK and his stooges on film and voice. Kind of hard to deny the old hand in the cookie jar trick.
But I must admit, the REPUBLICANS are doing what they do best , LIE,CHEAT, and STEAL.

  356. Karen Hansen says:

hmm…let’s all get bumper stickers. ..”Frodo failed. Bush has the Ring..”

Seriously though, I say let’s not eliminate free speech. If the great silent majority doesn’t have the will or intelligence to act in defense of of the constitution, civil liberties, national defense AND world peace then we deserve what we get.

  357. M. Koenig says:

Bottom line…the Clinton administration didn’t take terrorist’s attacks and threats seriously…(a direct quote from Dick Morris)…Clinton has a share in the blame for 9/11…a majority share. No other way to slice it. For Clinton and Dems to object is creating a wider opening for further scrutiny…Repubs are celebrating.

  358. wisafuckingidiot says:

the cons are squirming…. they see their control over government slipping away!

    BUSH DESERVES A FAIR TRIAL!

  359. Paul Block says:

What are these people thinking? Boycott Mickey Mouse!

  360. Paul Block says:

Oh…one more thing…regarding those people who are pointing at Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 911 saying this somehow justifies the lies of this Disney movie, remember…Disney is the company that refused to distribute Fahrenheit 911. I believe they said something about not wanting to fan flames of controversy. Come on. Understand what’s going on at Disney. Disney is a company run by Boeing, Bechtel and Halliburton. Disney is committed to Republican control of America. This movie represents their best shot.

  361. Luis R. Umpierre says:

OH YES !! Neocons will do just about ANYTHING to try and shift the blame for EVERYTHING to anyone in lieu of accepting their mistakes. If Clinton had been able to foretell the future, then he should be blamed for ALL attacks by Al Qaida. Then Bush should accept his mistakes for Bin Laden still walking around in the mountains of Pakistan. Why did the MORON [Bush] pull most of the troops from Afghanistan when Bin Laden could have been aprehended or killed ??

  362. earl says:

“Lookatyourselves” What a nut ! You are so rabid in your hatred that it’s all ” lies and Propaganda “. You no longer have any real world perspective.
Please, back in your Rabbit hole where you belong.

  363. Tony Spadarella says:

Dick Morris is a foot fetishist and a whore. He’s no expert on history, but a mere paid political hack in the service of the GOP. He worked for the Clintons, left or was fired and now hates the Clintons and has a personal grudge.

Why don’t you take the word of Roger Cressey and Richard C. Clarke who actually worked for the National Security Agency? They’re calling the blame-it-all-on-Clinton line garbage.

Or maybe an Iraqi Curveball fed this Administration more lies which they call intelligence cause they like it.

The real problem is that we have a president who preaches personal responsibility and is totally unable to accept responsibility for what happened on his watch. Unfit for duty.

911’s 5th anniversary is a time for national unity. ABC and the GOP are disgracing the memory of those who died by running a deceitful partisan attack vehicle and calling it ‘history.’ They should be ashamed. They are traitors to theis country and to the ideals and values that made America great and for which our kids are dying.

  364. TS says:

speaking of paid hacks and liberal media conspiracies and otherwise….

  365. pats says:

I, too, was very disappointed in Katie Couric’s interview with Bush the other night. She let him get away with sidestepping any semi-tough questions she asked, and she never followed up. What a waste of airtime.

  366. yeranalyst says:

Hey Trax, Could you please tell me how you know that Clinton and Berger pulled the plug on capturing Osama Bin Laden? That’s what I thought. You are one of the many mindless, tedious, banal, knee jerk, dumbed down, I’m going to be angry and self righteous even though I don’t have a clue as to what I’m talking about war crime enabling right wing shills talking out their ass. Judging by how loud and shrill you speak and how often you run that thing it can’t be pretty to look at. probably a qualifier for ogrish.com.

  367. winterstorm says:

I just have to point this out thanks to all of the neo-cons and other “conservatives.” Fahrenheit 9/11 was never a forced issue, in fact, if you wanted to go see it you had to shell out some money and some time to do so. Not exactly the same thing when you’re talking about a proposed mini-series to be aired on national television. Let’s think about this. Cost of admission? Nope. Time to watch it? Probably be in a prime or post prime slot, say 8 or 9pm. And if you don’t have the time to watch it, you can always program your vcr/dvr to keep it fresh for when you can watch it. You complain about something that if you paid to see it and didn’t agree with it, guess what? You could’ve walked out of the theater all on your own. So don’t give us this nonsense about liberals “forcing” anything on you. Freedom of speach also includes freedom to not listen. And to think, all you had to do to accomplish that was to walk away while you still had time. I know I haven’t seen that particular docu-whatever yet, and most likely won’t any time soon. It just disgusts me that so many people believe that not having faith in a person you didn’t vote for is unpatriotic…. “Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious,” Oscar Wilde.

  368. Stephen Detwiler says:

Shame on you Mickey! Your not supposed to have an agenda.

  369. Marc Polster says:

Shocking abuse of public airwaves. Shame on you Walt Disney. I will sell my kids’ Disney shares, block ABC/Disney channels, and avoid Disney properties. Where is the visible public outrage? Where are the American statesmen? Pull their licence. Disney/ABC has abused the public trust. Our children are being slaughtered overseas not to defend liberty and the rule of law, but to crush it. Shame on us Americans for allowing this to happen.

  370. THIS IS ALL A SIGN OF THE TIMES....... says:

LIKE I SAID THIS IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES. NOTHING CAN SURPRISE ME ANYMORE.

  371. Jeff Knox says:

IMO they will “find” a way to air it on time and on schedule with little alteration if any. Because it is intended to bracket and underscore the President’s speech it must be broadcast, so they will find a way to do it and respond after the fact, if at all. Much the same way we often see prominent conservative speakers make racist remarks in a significant public forum and then “applogize”.

The co-ordination of this program between ABC, Disney and the White House, and the scale of the production and broadcast are only hints of what is yet to happen. How many remember the immediate effect Orsen Welle’s radio broadcast of War of the Worlds had on the listeners, and the legacy it still has?

It Seems rather obvious that we are being set up for another”event”
(which will in due course be blamed on Clinton and/or FDR).

What is not understood yet by most observers is that the people who run the president and who installed him plan never leave the White house or Congress. “Losing” by any means is not an option they plan for or will allow to occur regardless of legitimate public disagreement with their policies and activities.

  372. Robert L Buckner says:

It is amazing how the neocons are now, in desperate last chance style, comparing anyone who disagrees with anything this administration does as unamerican, unpatriotic, fascist, Hitler, unchristian, or whatever their favored ugly word is.

  373. L. Mortensen says:

To anyone who compares this docu-drama to Moore’s films, ask yourself this question.
If Moore had stated untruths, where are all the lawsuits?
For ABC to advertise this based on the 9/11 commission report but have added fiction to it is false advertising at its worst. Is the audience supposed to know which part has factual basis and which part is fiction?
This is a bad idea and ABC should cancel. I would be happy to join a boycott of ABC and Disney.

  374. Thomas J Keans says:

The New World Order is at it again, or still would be a better way of putting it… When will the people of america wake up and see what is being done to our country… Our judicial system has been stolen from us as well as our government…. We have been made into corporate fictions and no-one is the wiser… We have 5 billion laws to replace the 10 commandants…. wher ever should we do about it… the new world order is in every aspect of our lives and we still do no know it… when will we wake up and smell the stench from the gangsters in control of our lives…

  375. scut fargus says:

I was raised in a liberal household, and one of the fundamental principles of liberalism at that time was the willingness to listen to other viewpoints. I guess that is tenet which neither side seems to endorse any more. Most of these 400 people have already made up their minds; and half of them knownot to watch this series.

It is sad to see what has happened to liberal thinking over these past 40+ years. I was a young man when JFK was our president, and I still think he was a good president and a great orator. And, in those days, being a liberal meant that you would consider alternative opinions. I don’t know that there are any liberals today like Kennedy; and being open-minded seems to be almost non-existent today.

  376. Nikita Sergeyevich says:

    Comrades Bravo!

These traitors at ABC are betrayers of our new mother land. Where I come from, this Robert A. Iger would be dragged through the streets in front of the tomb of our glorious leader Vladimir Lenin and shot in public. The producers, directors, writers and anyone associated with this propaganda would be picked up in the early hours of the morning by our State Security Chief Lavrenty Beria (The Black Hand) and taken to a Siberian labor camp never too be heard from again.

For many years I have been loyal to ABC and the Pravda (truth) that our Socialist Liberal ally has put forth in order to progress our ultimate goal; the decline and absolute destruction of America and the capitalist traitorous pig’s like ABC.

I ask you Mr. Robert A. Iger, “Have you no shame Sir”?

Comrades, we must not give up the fight. It has taken us many years to groom you and your elected leaders.

Remember what our great leader Nikita Khrushchev said:

“ We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism ”

It’s more important now then ever before that we stand together and stay focused! We can not allow this abomination of propaganda to go forward.

We must do whatever it takes to keep this film from airing on Sunday the 10th, 2006, we only have a few hours left.

It is your duty as loyal Liberal Socialist Democrats to rise up in solidarity and put a stop to this immediately!

Senator Harry Reid, one of our courageous and distinguished Senatorial leaders from the state of Nevada, reminded the capitalist traitorous pigs at ABC of their license from the FCC. Please Senator Reid, we’re your loyal comrades in arms and begging you to use all the glorious power you possess. You must stop this film! You must push forward with an iron fist and crush this despicable display of propaganda.

If this film isn’t stopped from airing on ABC, Sunday night, I’m afraid all our efforts since the cold war and the aspirations of our great leaders from glorious years past and Nikita Khrushchev’s dreams and predictions will have been lost.

If we loose now, the great Liberal Socialist Democratic Party, we have nurtured, will decline into the ash heaps of history never too be heard from again.

You must!…. I repeat, you must contact our comrades in arms at their offices in Washington.

Now I’ve done all the work all you have to do is contact our comrades below by e-mail or call:
