“No Retreat, No Surrender: The American Passion of Tom DeLay.” DeLay announced that he has a deal to publish a book that will explain how “everything I’ve done in my career furthered the conservative cause.”
Sen. George Allen (R-VA) declined a leadership award from the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund yesterday after donors to the minority fund “threatened to withhold contributions” following Allen’s recent “macaca” remark.
60: Percentage of Americans who think there will be more terrorism in the U.S. because of the Iraq war.
Following yesterday’s Security Council deadline, “[s]everal diplomats at the United Nations expect Russia and China to support low-level sanctions on Iran due to its refusal to stop enriching uranium.”
In terms of health benefits, doctors believe “breast milk is something of a magic elixir” for infants. Yet a class system is developing for working mothers: “for lower-income mothers — including many who work in restaurants, factories, call centers and the military — pumping at work is close to impossible.”
“The United States has expanded its force in Iraq to 140,000 troops, the most since January and 13,000 more than five weeks ago, the Pentagon said on Thursday, amid relentless violence in Baghdad and elsewhere.”
“Federal agents raided the offices of at least six Alaska lawmakers Thursday,” including the office of State Sen. Ben Stevens, son of U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK). The search was “for any ties between the legislators and a large oil field services company…whose executives are major contributors to political campaigns.”
Since the 9/11 attacks, the Dept. of Education has “shared personal information on hundreds of student loan applicants” with the FBI for counterterrorism purposes, in an operation known as “Project Strikeback.”
And finally: Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner held a virtual town hall discussion yesterday with an “invitation-only crowd” of avatars (see photos), including a “green Incredible Hulk type,” “a series of tubes,” and “a knight with feathers in the helmet.” Minutes into the Q&A, the “avatars became bored,” and a few began using gestures like “muscle-flexing, yawning, rock-scissors-paper and a spanking gesture called ‘kmb’ — kiss my butt.”
What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.
The f__king passion of tom delay!? This is like an SNL skit!
September 1st, 2006 at 9:05 am“The American Passion of Tom DeLay”?
September 1st, 2006 at 9:19 amYou think the cover will have a picture of DeLay crucified? He does like to exude a holier-than-thou attitude (depite his un-Christian behavior – blocking legislation that would have brought US labor law to the Marianas, putting an end to the sweat shops and forced prostitution there that he supports.)
At least DeLay admits that he worked to advance the conservative cause. We all knew he was not interested in advancing America.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:21 amIf by “advancing the conservative cause” DeLay means advancing his own personal agenda, then, yeah.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:27 am“…furthered the conservative cause.â€
September 1st, 2006 at 9:28 amyea… um, thanks for that, tom… really…

“pumping mothers”… i love it! …that was a good story…
September 1st, 2006 at 9:39 ami’m surprised at how many women ARE breast feeding – great news!

Surprise, surprise.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:45 amI think this whole breast mikl vs. non-breast milk issue is more caused by makers of baby formula who want to encourage more sales and less natural feeding.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:46 amOn the eve of our national “labor day”, I would like to offer my assistance to any working mother who requires help pumping. It’s the least I could do.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:51 amIran’s progress is far less than expected. From today’s Washington Post:
So much for the panic and paranoia that the GOP and Bush are feeding us in their panic and paranoia at the possibility of losing one or both houses of Congress.
September 1st, 2006 at 9:52 amok – that warner story was just plain weird…

September 1st, 2006 at 9:57 amand the electric pumps are a god send!
The neo-con pukes, led by their fearless cheerleader, are making tremendous inroads into the hearts and minds of the amurkan public. A full 60 percent have bought the line “we have to fight them over there so we wont have to fight them here”.
The amurkan people do not think for themselves. They let slogans interfere with their brain functions. Does anyone out there stop and think – how in the hell are the terrists going to get here? Are they going to parachute in, or what?
Of course maybe a lot of amurkans realize that our ports or so wide open that they could come by landing barges. That is a possibility you know.
It is nearing election time and that means that all of you progessives up there in amurka should push back from your computer lifelines and hit the friggin streets. Do some educating of the poor folks up there who agree with this administration. Raise hell about the prez using taxpayers money to campaign. Rant and rave about job growth not even keeping up with population growth.
Start asking questions. Where is bin Laden? Where are the WMDs? Why are we bogged down in Iraq?
September 1st, 2006 at 10:02 amSalt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson
By: John Amato on Thursday, August 31st, 2006 at 6:41 PM – PDT
Transcript (courtesy of Salt Lake Tribune):
A patriot is a person who loves his or her country.
Who among you loves your country so much that you have come here today to raise your voice out of deep concern for our nation – and for our world?
And who among you loves your country so much that you insist that our nation’s leaders tell us the truth? Let’s hear it: “Give us the truth! Give us the truth! Give us the truth!”
Let no one deny we are patriots. We love our country, we hold dear the values upon which our nation was founded, and we are distressed at what our President, his administration, and our Congress are doing to, and in the name of, our great nation.
Blind faith in bad leaders is not patriotism.
A patriot does not tell people who are intensely concerned about their country to just sit down and be quiet; to refrain from speaking out in the name of politeness or for the sake of being a good host; to show slavish, blind obedience and deference to a dishonest, war-mongering, human-rights-violating president.

Profiting in a Time of War
By: Nicole Belle @ 5:35 PM – PDT
Associated Press via MSNBC :
The chief executives of corporations making big profits from the war on terror are enjoying far bigger pay increases than CEOs of nondefense companies, according to a study by two liberal groups.
The study, conducted by the Institute for Policy Studies and United for a Fair Economy, found that, on average, CEOs of corporations with extensive defense contracts are getting paid about double what they made before Sept. 11, 2001.
CEOs of other large corporations – without big stakes in the war – have averaged pay gains of 6 percent during the same period, the study said.
Read on… http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/08/31/profiting-in-a-time-of-war/
I wonder, how many of those CEOs have a “I support the troops” magnet on their cars?
and i thought there were laws about such profits…
September 1st, 2006 at 10:12 am60: Percentage of Americans who think there will be more terrorism in the U.S. because of the Iraq war.
In the UK 99% people think the Iraq war has led to more terrorism, Not suprising when one of the 7/7 bomber said on His Martyrdom video it was because of Iraq he did it
why on 60% of Americans is the other 40% still them dumbF*K Bush supporters

September 1st, 2006 at 10:37 amI am getting information from various sources that the CIA is meddling in politics again in Central and South America.
Nicarauga again a target. Dont they ever learn? This time Venezuela is added to the list of countries that we, as a free nation, supposedly, decide what is best for the people of another country.
Oh well, this time I wont be going to the jungles of Nicarauga. Too friggin old.
September 1st, 2006 at 10:40 amYep, everything Tom DeLay has done has “furthered the conservative cause”, namely to rape the country, dump on the little guys, feather his own pockets and those of his wife and daughter, lie, cheat and steal in a rough grab for more power and money, anonanonanon….
Those are, at base, the “conservative” values. Read John Dean’s book Conservatives Without Conscience for more on this.
Cheers,

September 1st, 2006 at 11:08 amLIEBERMAN IS A GOP WHORE!
Friday 1st of September 2006
by Jay Randal
It’s the kiss of “Political Death” for any DC Democrat to help, or to support, Sen. Joseph Lieberman in his smarmy campaign trying to hold onto his Senate seat!
Joe Lieberman sold-out to the Bush Regime, and the GOP, after VP Al Gore was betrayed by the Supreme Court in the 2000 election and Dubya appointed President!
Old Joe has been helping BUSH/GOP ever since 2000, and has been one of the most vocal defenders of Iraq fiasco occupation, and an agent for Israel aggression!
Joe has also been promoting war on Iran, and Syria, to please the Israeli government and to appease GOP Neocons in the Cheney Cabal who lust for an empire!
“Military Industrial Complex” CEOs are big-time pals of CT Sen. Lieberman, so they want him to retain his Senate seat, so he gives them more Defense contracts!
Every progressive Democrat nationwide must help Ned Lamont to defeat Joe in the November election!
( Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Stone Mountain, Georgia.)
PS: I am back on TP after taking a vacation from politics for 2 weeks.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:24 amGood Morning Madashell, yep! you’re right about the public and breast feeding, or rather the reich wingers. What ever suits their purpose at the time…..Blessings…P.S. .Weather good here, bet in you’re neck of the wood’s as well……Zooey, good weather on it’s way to you.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:25 amGreat to see you back Jay…….I missed you’re post’s………Blessings
September 1st, 2006 at 11:28 amThanks Sharon Cox, and I missed posting on TP, but I needed a break from politics! Only 2 months till the November election, so time to kick the crap out of Lieberman and the GOP too!
September 1st, 2006 at 11:35 amjay – nothing about how joe’s run is likely to damage other dams chances in connecticut? that’s a big, if not bigger, problem… check it out…
September 1st, 2006 at 11:37 am#43- Jay, Welcome back! I hope you had a nice ‘vacation’! :)
September 1st, 2006 at 11:38 amMY MAN JAY RANDALL
Welcome back to the site, but I beg to differ with you on one little point.
Dubya was not APPOINTED by SCOTUS, he was ANNOINTED.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:48 amNote to the pious Tom “American Passion” Delay: “Thou shall have no other gods before me”. This guy has an incredible capacity for self-aggrandizing, ego-boosting, fault-denying verbal diarrhea. Thankfully, he does not have the direct power of an elected office any longer. But his message still needs to be exterminated.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:55 amWelcome back, Jay Randall. Vacation was a good move, we should all do so occasionally – just not all at once!
September 1st, 2006 at 11:56 amPost 47 katy > Yes Joe is helping his GOP Congressional pals in CT, but if Democrats massively vote against Joe in November, then those GOP creeps like Shays will fall as well!
Post 48 Cyra > Thanks and I needed a rest from posting comments on here!
Post 49 Rebel > Yep Dubya was ANNOINTED our King, but time for his abdication!
September 1st, 2006 at 11:59 amI’ve gone on vacation (away from home) about three times since 2000. But since 2003, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit of guilt (the recovering catholic thing), about our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I guess its a good thing, though, that I’m thinking about them – because really, how many on the other side of the fence truly think about any of it?

September 1st, 2006 at 12:05 pmI’m with you Madashell…..
Jay, this lieberman thing is a mess….Any one that can’t or won’t see his meniacle plan for bush, Israel and the war’s is dumb and blind……We can only hope and vote to remove him and all like him out of office…..Blessings
September 1st, 2006 at 12:10 pmJay – I have no doubt that we have the VOTES – the problem is the voting machines and the penchant of repukes to CHEAT!
Personally, I vote absentee, and hand deliver my ballot to the court house.
September 1st, 2006 at 12:13 pmPost 57 Sharon > Lieberman is a Trojan Horse Republican who masquerades as a Democrat! Anyone who does not see that is blind > even Gore knows that Joe stabbed him in the back!
Post 58 madeshell > Yes the GOP could cheat to keep Joe in the Senate, but Dems must be prepared to fight like the Mexicans who support Obrador to prevent vote fraud for Lieberman!
Off to lunch, but back later.
September 1st, 2006 at 12:22 pmWhen Delay (aka Christ the Saviour) is finally nailed (pun intended:) a fitting sentence would be to work in the Marianna Island sweat shop for five years, under the same conditions as the folks he shafted.
September 1st, 2006 at 12:24 pm#38 – I don’t know if Sharon can pull 1090, their wattage is so low that it practically disappears in Issaquah.
September 1st, 2006 at 12:26 pmRUCerious, Cyra, mad and all, I got it……1090 am is on as I type….Wahooooo.
