ABC provides right-wing bloggers with advanced copies

of Path to 9/11. Now, they appear to be excluding progressive bloggers from conference call promoting the film. Firedoglake has details.

Of course it’s not partisan. Michael Moore’s docudrama Fahrenheit 9/11 was factual and upset the Reich-wing. That’s why Disney (parent of ABC) couldn’t distribute it.

This movie is a fictional re-telling of events, which fictionally claims to be fact-based: Fiction upon fiction, which Disney does quite well. And this movie doesn’t upset the Reich-wing.

Ah, what the hell, we have a Mickey-Mouse President. Might as well have a Mickey-Mouse Movie to help support his Mickey-Mouse A$$.

Progressives need to stay focused on the reality of NOW and not get caught up re-hashing the past while Americans continue to fall into poverty, not have health insurance, watch the national debt zoom into outer space and worst of all, young Americans continue to die in Iraq.

I don’t see why this is surprising… ABC, a mega-corporation, has a product to sell. By giving this product to those who are going to write good reviews of it and are in a position where thousands of people will read those good reviews, then ABC has just scored a victory in the advertising department: reaching their target audience for a cheap price. So it makes sense. I’m not defending ABC’s actions, but they make perfect sense.

Dear Ms. Barr:

I wish to address the movie that ABC is featuring on 9/10-9/11. After reading extensive articles and comments about this movie and it’s background, it’s supporters, the screenplay writer, I have decided to boycott ABC and it’s affiliates. I have been a avid ABC viewer for three decades, and although I will miss many entertaining programs that ABC has brought to my home and my family, I will no longer watch ABC due to the extreme lengths ABC has gone to just to line their pockets with dirty money.

It saddens me that before ABC decides to feature a mini-series, thorough research isn’t completed with all facts about their programs. We live in vunerable times right now, and the companies that represent programs, whether it’s ABC or the sponsers, proper research isn’t done and its only result just further clouds the real issues and facts surrounding this subject with one-sided distortions and manipulation.

My email list is long as I will copy this letter I am sending to you and email it to everyone on that list along with the articles and comments from others as well as your contact information.

You can assist in helping me spread the word by pulling out of this tabloid venture with respect and decency to all family viewers of ABC and in turn, you will gain self-respect and decency to your station once again. Until then…

I used the contact form supplied by ThinkProgress to inform ABC that I have called my cable television provider and have had the signals to ESPN, ESPN2, ABC Family, ABC and Disney removed from my cable package. And I also told them that my family is through vacationing at all Disney owned resorts.
I urge everone else to do the same.

ABC’s parent company, Disney, attempted to kill Michael Moore’s movie “Fahrenheit 911″ because it was deemed to politically partisan.
Why, now, has Disney become so willing to air the partisan works of a right wing extremist?
There is a shameless duplicity at work here.

Eisner has previously denied that there was anything sinister about Disney’s (ABC) decision to block distribution (of Fahrenheit 911). “We’re such a nonpartisan company,” he said. “[People] do not look for us to take sides.”

This is the response I received from our local affiliate in Chicago.

Thank you for your email. I have personally watched the
entire 5 hour miniseries and can assure you it is a thorough and
unblinking look at the events taking place from the first World Trade
Center bombing through to 9/11/01. The information in the docudrama
comes straight from the 9/11 Commission Report and, in my opinion, is a
television special not to be missed. We have received numerous
complaints, threats and emails but no one sending them has yet seen the
movie and since it has only been pre-screened in a few places, it is
doubtful that the people emailing us have had the opportunity to watch
it. I urge you to watch it and then judge the content accordingly. If
you choose not to watch it, that is of course entirely your choice.
What I will not do is censor a film based on here say mostly spread via
the internet from people who have not yet had the opportunity to watch
the film firsthand. I do appreciate your taking the time to email us.

I have responded to their response by the list of brilliant questions that are posed to ABC.

here and now to publicize the falsehoods and historical omissions in
“The Path to 911″ that make it a dangerous 6 hours of Bushian
propaganda. The whole purpose is to re-write history with biased
presentations of counterterrorism actions during the Clinton admin-
istration with the objective of shifting 911 blame to the Clinton years.
The incident of Clinton failure to take out bin Laden when “they had him
surrounded” is a total fabrication, for example. Even more egregious is
the movie’s failure to charge the Republican Congress for blocking all
Democratic efforts to place high priority emphasis on counterterrorism,
which continued up to September 10, 2001, when John Ashcroft was
even then trying to cut funding for counterterrorism and homeland
defense programs.

Here is the final email that I received from Emily Barr,General Manager of Chicago Affiliate when I responded to her first response to my plea to correct inacuracies of the program or not show it at all.

Obviously, just like Bush, ABC and their affiliates aren’t listening and will show their Disney fantasy show. Here is Ms. Barr’s last response.

I have forwarded your concerns to ABC. I am the local
general manager and you have read my thoughts below. My only additional
comment is that neither administration is “blamed” for the tragedy in
this film. I really do urge you to see it for yourself before passing
judgement. This film is only one element of the discussion and debate
you ask for. There will also be a live town hall meeting on Monday
evening following the film’s airing and hosted by Charles Gibson. If
you want to make further comments or inquiries about the movie, I would
recommend going to abc.com and writing Steve McPherson, the head of ABC
Entertainment, directly. Thanks so much.

Fahrenheit 9/11 Factual? I’m sorry, but we’ve now crossed into the double standard. There are at least 56 cases in F9/11 where Mr. Moore used some clever editing to present a half truth so that his position could be supported.

I’m not saying that what ABC is doing is correct, I think its not — but I do think that we need to be objective in our objections.

I’ve yet to hear one person, on any blog I’ve seen bring up the issue of freedom of speech here. Regardless of what side of the fence you sit on, if Mr. Moore’s half truths constitute “a factual documentary”, how can we complain when the producers of a docudrama miniseries admit to making chunks of it up?

Lets at least keep this discussion objective. Write the stations, call your affliates, express your opinions to them, organize your boycotts — make the system work for you, but don’t simply accept one person’s “factual documentary” and reject another person’s docudrama.

And calling the Conservative “Right” Nazis is never good for opening a dialog.
