ABC’s relationship with the right-wing.

Digby pulls back the curtains.

  1. bluedog49 says:

All major networks have “a relationship” with the right wing. This is because they all know that the right wing will not regulate their industry and the left wing will. Democrats will enact legislation which regulates the media industry. Period. For this reason, the corporate boards of all major media conglomerates want Republicans. People on TV will do absolutely nothing which might threaten their jobs. They simply make too much money to take chances. They know that those who have stepped out of line are no longer making that big money. They know what their corporate bosses want. This is what’s going on with “television news.”

  2. Jason M. Hendler says:

    WRONG

ABC has a relationship with the Clintons, and it is in THEIR interest that the netroot insurgency fail.

  3. Ronin Tetsuro says:

    Absolutely what bluedog said.

This is less about politics and more about money. Same is true when we’re talking about the Administration.

Follow the Money, America. Stop it with this Blue State/Red State bullshit, that’s a distraction to keep you occupied.

  4. bluedog49 says:

Hendler: “ABC has a relationship with the Clintons…”

Tell us, oh wise one, the nature of this relationship between the Clintons and the Corporate Board of ABC. How have the Clintons prospered from this relationship. What enlightened self-interest does the board of directors have in nurturing this secret relationship with the Clintons and how does it help their bottom line?

  5. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #4, blue,

Duh, the mainstream media is siding with the Clinton wing of the Democratic Party, and pounding Howard Dean and the netrooters. Just watch the coverage. It is about financial gain, it is merely shared idealogy.

  6. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #5 oops

I meant that it is NOT about financial gain.

  7. Ronin Tetsuro says:

    Jason,

I must be watching television in a parallel universe to yours. Can you cite any examples that I could research?

  8. Marie says:

    #1 bluedog is absolutely right.
The Dems would regulate the industry. The Repugs don’t want it.
The Repugs control the FCC and look what has happened under their watch. Mergers of mergers concerning radio. Corporate takeovers of takeovers concerning TV and other media.
The radio and TV airwaves are public domain. They are supposed to provide a public service. Corporations do not own the air. But they are trying to gain full possession.

  9. Ronin Tetsuro says:

    #8 That’s right.

With the aquisition os Sesquoia(sp), Radio is down to two owners, Clear Channel and… I forget the other name.

Television is almost as bad with all the mergers that have happened over the past few years.

And they’re trying to annex the internet with the Net Nutrality legislation.

    Free speech zones, indeed.

  10. Illinoisdemocrat says:

In the book Lapdogs, it was cited that the ABC blog The Note is very right of center. It has alot of influence in Washington and is pro GOP. It makes fun of and smears democrats.

  11. katy says:

i almost hate to, but i must have someone explain to me what point hintler is trying to make… this propo-drama that criticizes clinton is actually a benefit to him? … huh? … my head really hurts now…

  12. AvengingAngel says:

With this weekend’s upcoming mockumentary “The Path to 9/11,” Disney and ABC are breaking dangerous new ground in the conservative propaganda war. Even as the ABC network follows in the footsteps of Mel Gibson and The Passion of the Christ in “mobilizing the base,” ABC News on Sunday declared Robert Greenwald’s new documentary “Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers” a left-wing hatchet job “produced like a political campaign.”

For more on ABC’s hypocrisy, see:
“ABC Slams New Iraq Documentary, Ignores Own 9/11 Right-Wing Fantasy.”

  13. RealScientist says:

Looks like Jason has been smoking crack again.

  14. PatrioticLiberalChristian (PLC) says:

Mr. Hendler and the rest of the Bush apologists are rapidly running out of even remotely cogent arguments to uphold their increasingly tenuous hold on power. There seems to be a direct and positive correlation between amount of power lost and amount of coherence lost.

  15. Ronin Tetsuro says:

I’m still waiting for examples Jason. Please, I really honestly haven’t seen any pro-Clinton propaganda.

Don’t cut and run on me now. Er, I mean adapt to win. Or whatever it is this week.

  16. Ronin Tetsuro says:

    Just watch the coverage.

    Comment by Jason M. Hendler — September 5, 2006 @ 7:33 pm

Where is this coverage? I would very much like to TiVo this.

I’d like to see those examples, as well.

  18. For Truth says:

Financial Gain will become a part of an ideology if the financial gain becomes a catalyst in which the ideology is realized.

I just pulled that out of my butt, for Jason.

  19. numfar says:

It looks like the hidden partner in the right-wing echo chamber has come out of the closet. Congrats ABC on being a great bunch of douchebags.

What is the worst compliment you could pay to Rush Limbaugh? That he’s entertaining. Take away the strength of the TV delivery, you know where the nuclear family huddles in front of the hearth like glow of parentally approved, dogma, fluff and every word spoken is the gospel, just like Jerry and James and Pat deliver in a non stop manner. It’s like the Star Trek episode with Nomad, Kirk blows him up by saying “Nomad everything I say is a lie, Nomad I’m lying.” What they have told you is a lie, only we know the truth. Sober people couldn’t lie could they? Look honey our reality just got goin kicked. It’s a film plain and simple. Films don’t control my life, do they your’s?

  22. jurassicpork says:

Speaking of relationships with the right wings: For Those About to Lie… (We Salute You), my orgasm of a mash note to right wing pundits. I’ll be emailing this to every prominent right wing pundit whose email address I can find. If anyone knows of emails addys or better ones than I may have, pass ‘em along.

Yes they made a mockumentary to make Bill look bad so Hillary will look good. Your a genius Jason, I don’t know why I never recognized that before, I mean, such insite, such scope and focus. How do you do it?

I mean are you one of those college kids who work in a think-tank,BTW do you guys get to float around sensory deprivation tanks? You know like that movie with, Altered States, I think..anyway, you guys must have to have really big sensory deprivation tanks to float those hydrosavalics in right?

Say how much do they pay you guys to be in the dark all the time?

  26. Trinary Suka says:

What is the worst compliment you could pay to Rush Limbaugh? That he’s entertaining.

I never tool limbaugh seriously, I mean, the french and the British love him, as do I, mostly because I am a Jerry Lewis fan, like the French, and well, we think he is a great comedian. I mean Dennis Miller was a deadpan comic, but rush is the best deadpanner yet, His comic is so genius people take him seriously. We hope that soon Rush, and his troupe of comedy researchers come to France.

  27. Kurt says:

So has anyone actually figured out with certainty who payed the $40 million to produce this thing? Was it Disney? ABC itself? The GOP? Maybe the YAWM (the evangelical Christian organization founded by the parents of the director)?

And who is footing the bill for the 6 whole hours of commercial free prime time programming?

  28. George says:

    ABC = Always Back Conservatives

  29. MediaBloodhound says:

Kurt, great question. I’m sure it will come out soon enough.

  30. QUALAR says:

For what purpose is ABC offering this abomination to schools nationwide? And obvious attempt to promote this crap as being factual and to brainwash our most impressionable. These bastards will stop at nothing and airing these lies could effect several close contests in the November election. ABC and Disney need to be punished severely for this partisan effort to shill for the true traitors. By the way, where are all of the indictments from the Abramoff and Cunningham crime families, Robert? I’m tired of your cover-ups.

  31. jurassicpork says:

Maureen Dowd wrote about Katie Couric in tomorrow’s byline. Here’re the opening lines:

“W. and Katie were both on TV at 6:30 last night, trying to prove they were a man.

    Katie won, by a whisker.”

    Ouch.

  32. Jay Randal says:

Bush/GOP conspiracies are always weird, and the ABC docudrama propaganda crap on 9/11 proves it > even George Orwell who wrote 1984 would shake his head in disbelief on this unfolding baloney > lol.

  33. Cyra Brown says:

Jason. since you continue to come here, flapping your gums, could you at least try not to be so lame? Spend a little more time creating your ’storyline’, so it doesn’t start falling appart as soon as you post it. Try to stick to the subject, I know that’s hard for you, but come on, give it a go.

Look, here is what you do. Boycott Disney. Don’t take your kids to any Disney movies, don’t buy any Disney DVDs don’t have your kids watching any Disney TV Shows, and don’t go to those little pieces of hell on Earth, the Disney theme parks.

Freeze them out. The Religious Right has been trying to use this tactic for years, remember the Life of Brian, or Dungeons And Dragons? It is time for us to show them that it cuts both ways, and that right now there are more people who are sick of being lied to, then there ever were Religious Right Whackjobs.

If Disney is so interested in getting the RR on board for Narnia, it is time to show them that the left can boycott you just as well as the right. It is time to kill the wussy mouse. These big corporate idiots have taken the normal public for granted, “Yeah they will never boycott us, but those Rightwing Riechwing Nutters, those are the guys you have to worry about!”

It is time we showed them that we are just as able to choose other alternatives as the RR is.

  38. Jason M. Hendler says:

The 9/11 documentaries serve to remind voters that America requires people strong on security. While Bill Clinton may have failed to deal effectively with the terrorist threat, Hill’reh has been very supportive of Bush’s actions, and will not suffer from her husband’s failure. These documentaries are a net plus for Hill’reh, because the more important security issues are to voters, the better her chances in her own bid for Senator, as well as her subsequent run for President in the Democratic primary.

  39. chimpeach says:

    #40
The 9/11 documentaries serve to remind voters that America requires people strong on security.

If the propaganda campaign is successful, it might lead voters to think that Clinton wasn’t strong on security and Bush is.

While Bill Clinton may have failed to deal effectively with the terrorist threat,

The first attempt to bring down the World Trade Center was on Clinton’s watch. The perpetrators are in jail. Terrorists plotting to blow up LAX were captured on Clinton’s watch.

Bush was warned about bin Laden by the Clinton administration. Bush did nothing. He ignored the PDB. He put Cheney in charge of a counter-terrorism panel in February 2001. They didn’t have one single meeting. Bush fought against having a 9/11 Commission and since they’ve issued their recommendations for preventing another 9/11, he’s ignored most of them.

If your idea of a strong president is one who waits for things to happen and then makes excuses like “No one could have foreseen…” then you must be really happy with Bush. We used to have people in the White House who knew what foresight was and used it. This idiot only uses hindsight, which is appropriate since his eyes and his brain are in his ass.

  41. Esquire says:

    1. It is notable that ABC’s “20/20″, arguably one of its most visible and indentifiable products, is no longer anchored by Barbara Walters, but now co-anchored with John Miller.

    2. ABC’s “Path to 9/11″ propaganda piece is sourced by, among few other things, a book called “The Cell”.

    3. The principal author of “The Cell” is … John Miller, now co-anchoring ABC’s 20/20.
