Iran has welcomed the report by the International Atomic Energy Agency as evidence of its cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asafi was quoted by the Iranian news agency IRNA Friday as saying “a large part of the report shows Iran’s large cooperation with the IAEA and its inspectors.”
IAEA chief Mohammed el-Baradei issued a report Thursday in which he said Iran is still enriching uranium, but there is no tangible proof that its nuclear program has a military aspect.
“The report clearly indicated that Iran honored its commitments within the framework of international resolution and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is ready to continue on that path regarding the remaining few points still pending,” Asafi said.
He stressed that Iran’s nuclear activities are “transparent, open, peaceful and far from any ambiguity, which makes settling Iran’s nuclear issue easy through negotiations.”
Asafi noted that the IAEA report stressed the need to follow reason and avoid unjust action “despite the pressures exerted by the United States and the uproar provoked in international circles.”
Iran ignored a United Nations Security Council deadline, which expired at midnight Thursday, to suspend uranium enrichment or face international sanctions.
Asafi reiterated Iran’s readiness to continue negotiations with the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany; the group offered Tehran a package of economic incentives in return for stopping uranium enrichment.
“Iran believes that holding negotiations and respecting Iran’s legitimate rights will lead to achieving a just solution that suits all parties,” Asafi added.
Don’t worry, the bush administration didn’t let facts get in the way of anything they have done so far. They definately will not et facts get in the of their agenda.
As the West’s “war on terror” burns across the Muslim world, one of Islam’s most principled leaders – the former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami – issued a grave warning yesterday from the very heart of America, the country whose troops and allies are fighting Islamists across the Middle East in a war that is costing thousands of Muslim lives.
“The policies of the neo-conservatives have created a war that creates more extremists and radicals,” he told The Independent in Chicago. “The events of 9/11 gave them this ability to create fear
Tony Blair’s future as Prime Minister is again the subject of speculation and rumour.
Sources have told Sky News that Downing Street has been contacting regional directors of the Labour Party around the country to gauge support for Mr Blair among the grassroots.
It comes as 49 Labour MPs are backing the Prime Minister, while another group is calling for him to name the date when he will step down.
And that revelation came as a memo from Number Ten – outlining plans for a ‘farewell tour’ to highlight Mr Blair’s achievements in office – appeared in the Daily Mirror.

Imposing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme could drive it “away from the civilised world”, Russian officials have said ahead of talks between the European Union and Tehran.
Russia is expected to oppose a US-led push for sanctions after Iran refused to stop enriching uranium by August 31 as demanded by the United Nations Security Council.
George Bush, the US president, has pledged to work closely with other governments to find a diplomatic solution to the stand-off but said: “The world’s free nations will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.”
George Bush should just shut his face and Go to Iran like the IAEA and examine the bloody place himself ……….

I’m not entirely sure the world’s free nations will allow the US to develop a nuclear bunker buster bomb, either. Unless, of course, we lie to them.
Lest we forget, Iran is a State Party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. As such, it is subject to U.N. inspections.
And, lest we forget, the U.N. inspectors got it right in Iraq; the U.S., where intelligence was being fixed around the policy of going to war, got it wrong.
If we could contain the Soviet Union, we can contain Iran. Look at your calendar: it’s 2006, not 1938.

He has a point, Iran is much less a match than the USSR.
Even if Iran did get a nuclear bomb they would probably use it on their neighbors or a fellow mullah.
Something that Bush probably wants to do anyway seeing as he wants the Jews to burn in hell anyway, and well thats the fundies belief anyway.
Iran, with it’s 10 foot tall insane leader, who really has no power, the mullahs do, would be wiped out instantly if they ever did fire a nuclear weapon towards countries under the US nuclear umbrella.

Now why the Hell isn’t the media attacking bush for his anti-semitic words like they did Mel Gibson?
Doesn’t Bush consider himself a Judeo-Christian?
I guess not.
Thanks Margert and others for your words of support. Unfortunately Think Progress needs to rename itself to “THINK LIKE US OR GET OUTâ€.
TP has turned into a joke. I am apparently BANNED now, and this will likely be deleted to. I tried to post earlier from my home but they have blocked my home IP. I am only getting this in as I am at work.
I was finished posting last night, but I am writing this because so many people responded to my final post.
But first, to the clown who deleted my posts last night deleted 5 good, thoughtful, non vicious posts that I took time to write to help support the Fareed Zakaria thread.
Just WHAT was wrong with those posts?
Here is one of those posts from last night, that you thought was too incendiary, too racy, too profane and or too off topic in a thread that was about IRAN, and Bush comparing Terrorism to Nazism.
Every legal means available to congress and the American people should be employed to make sure Bush is NOT permitted to invade Iran.
Just like Hitler, Bush is invading small countries who cannot defend themselves. Hitler convinced the German people that it was necessary to protect Germany by invading Holland, Poland, France…
Bush is doing the EXACT SAME THING, and pretty much for the same reasons. Hitler claimed the Polish terrorists were Jews and Bush is claiming his war is against Muslim extremists. Both leaders targeted a given race and religion, and both leaders ignored larger and greater threats in exchange for the smaller insignificant countries where he could invade with pomp and plunder.
Bush’s new attack on the American people, calling those who disagree facists and traitors and trying to liken the insurgents in Iraq to Hitler and the Nazi’s and us to the people who appeased the Nazi’s is clearly because he knows that the night he addresses the nation in his Gestapo black suit, to tell us he is invading Iran for the glory of democracy, that people will see we were right, and that the rise and reign of the Bush administration mirrors in so many ways, the rise and reign of the Thousand year Reich.

So TP just deleted five posts of mine that were insightful and on topic.
Thinkprogress may be many things, but one of them is NOT a place where freedom of speech prevails, nor is an equal voice offered to all.
So to my friends and my foes, I thus sign off TP for the last time.
Good night, and good luck.

If anyone wants to talk to me I will be looking for my friends over at Lydia Cornell’s blog. It is liberal, progressive and she doesn’t pull crap like this. http://www.lydiacornell.com
It may not be as big as ThinkPROPER, but if TP keeps going the way its going that might change soon.
