ABC has been aggressively advancing its inaccurate and politically slanted miniseries, “The Path to 9/11,” to the right wing. Big players like Rush Limbaugh have been provided copies, as have obscure right-wing bloggers like Patterico.
But ABC has refused to provide a copy to President Clinton’s office. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former National Security Adviser Samuel Berger have also requested copies of the film from ABC, and both have been denied. Both Berger and Albright are harshly criticized in the film in scenes that, according to former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, are “180 degrees from what happened.”
Here is an excerpt from Albright’s letter:
While I have requested a copy of the broadcast, I have yet to receive one. I have been informed by some who had been given the right to view the broadcast that the drama depicts scenes that never happened, events that never took place, decisions that were never made and conversations that never occurred; it asserts as fact things that are not fact.
For example, one scene apparently portrays me as refusing to support a missile strike against bin Laden without first alerting the Pakistanis; it further asserts that I notified the Pakistanis of the strike over the objections of our military. Neither of these assertions is true. In fact, the 9/11 commission reports states (page 117), “Since the missiles headed for Afghanistan had had to cross Pakistan, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs was sent to meet with Pakistan’s army chief of staff to assure him the missiles were not coming from India. Officials in Washington speculated that one or another Pakistani official might have sent a warning to the Taliban or Bin Ladin.”
You can read the full text of Berger’s letter here and Albright’s letter here.
Write ABC and tell them to tell the truth about 9/11.
Everyone needs to call and write their local ABC affiliate and to let their sponsors know that we object to this crap.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:33 amWhy would ABC want to provide everybody copies of their BS movie? They are clearly trying to appease the right-wing attack machine and could care less about accuracy or accountability.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:34 amI am surprised ABC and Disney legal staffs vetted this thing for airing/distribution. There is a distinct possibility that Disney could be hit with some libel lawsuits.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:34 amABC is full of right wing facists! The only reason to not provide the tape to Clinton, Berger, and Albright is because IT IS A BOLD FACED LIE! A lie sponsored by Rove (aka Joseph Goebbles) and Bush (Adolph Hitler!)
Zieg hile, Bush!

September 6th, 2006 at 11:39 amThis is it!!!!!…..by refusing to provide copies to the people involved in the movie this movie will be finally exposed as what it is FRAUD!!!!!!
The rest of the media will pounce on this aspect of the story like white on rice….
Dumb move ABC…dumb move…
Good luck CONS with getting DEMS and Indep to buy this garbage….your Rethug supporters however will eat this trash up for sure……..
September 6th, 2006 at 11:40 amABC: “I find the defendant guilty! Based on these documented factual dramatisations”
September 6th, 2006 at 11:46 amNeojury: “That’s right we concur”
Defendant: “Hold on, can I see your documented factual dramatisations?”
ABC: “No you’re guilty until proven guilty. By this stuff which even a top security advisor to the white house calls garbage”
ABC & Neojury: “Burn the witch!”
Why didn’t Bush Sr. and Clinton go after Bin Laben? This man could have been dead years before 9/11 by either president. It is sad that neither man could grow a pair of nuts and kill that man.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:46 amRoger_Dodger why didn’t BushCo accept when the Taliban offered to hand over Bin Laden 1) after seeing proof and then 2) to an independant country for trial, even without any proof.
Why did BushCo then go on to dismantle the unit responsible for hunting down Bin Laden?
While you’re at it, perhaps you would like to answer why BushCo let a certain Learjet leave the USA, loaded with Bin Ladens just shortly after 9/11 when all other aircraft were grounded?
September 6th, 2006 at 11:50 amI forget all of the elements of the NYT standard, but I believe a public figure must prove that the publisher had actual knowledge that it was publishing a falsehood. This makes it very difficult for so-called public figures, such as Albright, to win libel cases. However, if what Albright says is really true, then the fact that she is a public figure might not be a real bar to a libel suit — she is putting ABC on notice, ahead of time, that it is about to publish a falsehood about a public figure that, incidentally, casts her in a very negative light. They will never be able to claim that they lacked actual knowledge. The fact that they won’t show her the tape is, perhaps, their idea of countering actual knowledge by sticking their head in the sand. Very interesting.

September 6th, 2006 at 11:52 amlook at it this way, roger_roger… bush 41 and clinton were just as successful at hunting down OBL as dubya has been.
they just didn’t spend a gazillion dollars in the course of their failure.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:53 amRoger, nice try.
Bush I didn’t go after Osama because Osama was a CIA guy.
Clinton did try to go after Osama multiple times, despite being told this was treasonous or impeachable conduct by snakes like you.
Also, remember that flawlessly executed and planned ousting of the Taliban in 2001/2? That was the Clinton plan, which was drawn up after the bombing of the USS Cole in October 2000, because it appeared that Al Qaeda was behind the bombing, and which was given to Bush’s people upon the changing of administrations. Hard proof of Al Qaeda/Taliban involvement in the USS Cole bombing was attained sometime in early 2001. Despite this, Bush chose to do nothing. The blame for inaction on the USS Cole lies squarely with Bush, not Clinton.
Bush was preoccupied with missile defense, North Korea, Iraq, and pulling out of Kyoto, appearing to agree with the Republican critics of Clinton who called him obsessed with terrorism.
You people are wrong, you have short memories, and you are supporting great evil.

It’s good to know in the land of the free and all that is just and democratic you can get slandered and made out as something you’re not, and then not be allowed to given a copy by the smearing person. Because that would just be totally the fair thing to do, which just won’t do!

September 6th, 2006 at 11:57 am9/11/01 REPRESENTS DUBYA’S FAILURE!
Wednesday 6th of September 2006
by Jay Randal
The 5th anniversary of 9/11/01 terrorist attack is less than 5 days away, on next Monday, so Bush and GOP are trying to lay the blame on former Pres. Clinton?
100% fault and blame falls on the Bush Regime for complete negligence in not preventing terrorist attack from taking place and represents Pres. Bush’s failure!
The destruction of the WTC towers, and the attack on the Pentagon, was/is a chilling reminder of government ineptitude and gross malfeasance by the Bush Regime!
Karl Rove has tried to paint the ineptitude as victory, to portray George W. Bush as some kind of hero, but that baloney is just fantasy foisted as vile propaganda!
George cowered in a grammer school classroom as the attack took place, and was frozen in a comatose stupor of inaction, as the WTC/Pentagon buildings burned!
VP Cheney was rushed to a bunker to protect him, as Pres. Bush was whisked away to unknown location, so their personal safety was more important to them???

You are so far off the mark with that comment, it’s not laughable, it’s not sickening, it’s somewhere below stupid. Far far below. Go get a clue before you post anything else like that.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:58 amI wasn’t aware that both clinton and Bush Sr. lacked testicles. That’s news to me. Roger, if you’ve got a pair, go take UBL out! Does Bush Jr. have testicles? Why haven’t we gotten UBL? Why has Pakistan just declared a truce with UBL stating that they will let him live peacefully in northern pakistan? Surely someone must have a pair over there. Will we now go to war with Pakistan becuase they harbor UBL? Or will this prove that Bush Jr. had his removed back before he took his oath of office. By the way testicles rule. I have a pair but for some reason haven’t been able to catch UBL. Damn my liberal cut and run tendencies. Damn testicles.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:58 amRe:8. Please give a specific time when Bush Sr. and when Clinton could have killed OBL. Also please cite legitimate references to support your claims (e.g., 9/11 report, CIA reports, etc.).

Gimme a break. Why don’t you worry about why Bush jr hasn’t gone full force after the guy now after he supposedly sponsored the worst terror attack ever?
September 6th, 2006 at 11:59 amGive up guys, Roger_Rogered will probably come back soon enough with a different ID for more punishment. Is there a doctor in the house? We’ve some sick people here who keep coming back for more punishment and embarrassment…
September 6th, 2006 at 11:59 amIt’s time for people like Clinton to start using their power to inflict retribution upon ABC-Capital Cities.
There are a lot of ways to pay back with hurt and embarrassment, or to freeze out, even a behemoth like ABC-Capital Cities-Disney.
In some things, those with political capital and media access need to step up a fight these battles, and not just rely on the grass/net roots.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:00 pmOf course they will not provide it, rove is out to confuse Americans and having intelligent, respected REAL people say negative things about his latest pack of lies would not be good.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:00 pmthat being said, 9/11 was an inside job, and OBL had little to do with it except for possibly supplying patsies.

If they’re going to give out advance copies of a TV show, it should go to both likely critics and supporters, not to right-wingers only.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:02 pmWhy did Bush Jr let OBL go free?
September 6th, 2006 at 12:02 pmI will make every effort to boycott every ABC and Disney.

September 6th, 2006 at 12:03 pm33. I think it would still be okay to watch vintage Disney movies and Mickey Mouse….
September 6th, 2006 at 12:04 pm#17 “So back on topic now one of the trolls have had their daily dose of humiliation (what are they, sadistic, to keep coming back for more??)”
That would be “masochistic” (no offense, just correcting). Their masters are sadistic, which explains the relationship between the neocon overlords (sadists) and the 33% of bootlickers that follow them (the 33%). Now it is perfectly clear: the adamant neocon supporters suffer from the “battered patriot syndrome”, where the country and constitution they love so dearly is repeatedly trampled and spit on by the overlords, and the masochistic supporters with BPS just keep coming back for more. It is a mental illness and needs to be treated.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:09 pmHere’s an interesting proposition.
Let’s just say for debates sake the next President is a Democrat. What happens if there is an equivalent major attack on the USA during his time in charge?
Presumably, it would be A OK for him to just put his hands up and say “Well it was Bush’s fault, because he let Bin Laden go and he helped destabilise Iraq”. Which would actually have more basis but nevermind that. After all, it’s true isn’t it. Or is it only neocrooks who can blame someone else (usually a democrat) all the time?
September 6th, 2006 at 12:10 pmBoycotting means that you don’t buy new product. You can still enjoy the videos or toys or what have you that you already have without affecting your intent to boycott — just don’t give them any MORE of your money, since they see fit to use it to support partisan propoganda filled with lies.

September 6th, 2006 at 12:12 pmBarbara, #10 - very good! I might add, the fact that the film has already been pre-released to select inviduals means it has been published. ABC/Disney’s exposure to libel lawsuits on this is…well, let’s just say it could get real ugly for the Mouse, who, by the way, already speaks in a falsetto.
If I had Disney stock, I would sell. Now.

September 6th, 2006 at 12:16 pmClarification…
Further Clarification…
Even Further Clarification….
Why’s that necessary? Because it’s fiction.
“The Path To 911 - According to Jim”.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:16 pmnapu, you can always buy them on the black market, or used at a yard sale, not to mention getting them from the library (very handy, yard sales, when you have young children). I think they consider piracy and resales to be worse than a boycott. (Just kidding, and very grateful that I already own “Beauty and the Beast”)
September 6th, 2006 at 12:16 pmAnd to actually post on topic, I think that the predistribution clearly states a specific agenda: in fact, it seems that they distributed the early releases to those who would tout the film: that aspect they can probably argue as a marketing strategy, and thus NOT giving pre-show copies to Clinton (et. al.) they can argue as not being in their marketing interests. I am pretty sure that that will be their defence on that one. They are not interested in facts, because their overlords are telling them to run it: accuracy of the content is not of any import or interest to them.
Back in a while (fair warning :) ).

Why didn’t Bush Sr. and Clinton go after Bin Laben? This man could have been dead years before 9/11 by either president. It is sad that neither man could grow a pair of nuts and kill that man.
I shouldn’t have to do this, but here goes. Look at the quote from Albright. She quotes the 9/11 Commission report: “Since the missiles headed for Afghanistan had had to cross Pakistan, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs was sent to meet with Pakistan’s army chief of staff to assure him the missiles were not coming from India. Officials in Washington speculated that one or another Pakistani official might have sent a warning to the Taliban or Bin Ladin.â€
She’s talking about 40+ Tomahawk cruise missiles fired at a camp inside Afghanistan where bin Laden was known to be staying. The one problem with that, as Albright points out, is that they needed to let our ‘allies’ the Pakistanis know what was flying over their country on the way to take out bin Laden and where it was coming from. A Pakistani general later bragged about tipping off bin Laden. It seems the Pakistani military was not exactly on the same page as us in this whole anti-terrorism thing. Clinton tried to get cooperation from Pakistani intelligence to go in and catch bin Laden. From the WaPo:
” In 1999, the CIA secretly trained and equipped approximately 60 commandos from the Pakistani intelligence agency to enter Afghanistan for the purpose of capturing or killing Osama bin Laden, according to people familiar with the operation.
“The operation was arranged by then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his chief of intelligence with the Clinton administration, which in turn promised to lift sanctions on Pakistan and provide an economic aid package. The plan was aborted later that year when Sharif was ousted in a military coup.
…
“The operation was aborted on Oct. 12, 1999, however, when Sharif was overthrown in a military coup led by Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who refused to continue the operation despite substantial efforts by the Clinton administration to revive it.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/ ac2/ wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A61219-2001Oct2
Our pal, Musharraf. Facts are a bitch, eh?
September 6th, 2006 at 12:18 pmPost 40 Faire > Bush and GOP must have assured ABC that any libel suits against them would be handled by their sleazy lawyers, GOP affiliated judges, and by the GOP controlled Congress! September 6th, 2006 at 12:19 pmWell everyone was wondering what common scheme the sewer brain rove would cook up for the elections and now we know.
But like the president telling lies to get approval to invade Iraq, who, just tell me who would have thought a family oriented organization like Disney would be involved in a scheme like this.
It is up to the democrats to show their might. They should boycott any ABC show, Disney and the sponsors. And if I were one of the principals protrayed in the film and they showed absolute inaccuracies, I would sue their ass off. If enough did maybe the republican owned ABC/Disney wouldn’t be the republican owners anymore.

September 6th, 2006 at 12:35 pm#47
Bush and GOP must have assured ABC that any libel suits against them would be handled by their sleazy lawyers, GOP affiliated judges, and by the GOP controlled Congress!
I think you’re right. It’s interesting how this works. MoveOn had bought commercial time in several TV markets for their “Red-Handed” political ads about GOP candidates and corruption. All of the ads were legal, none of them libelous. But, some of the Republican-supporting TV affiliates refused to air them, because they claimed to have been threatened with lawsuits by the RNC.
So, the RNC can scare off TV stations from airing ads that are factual, but ABC is boldly putting up $30 million dollars of its own money to air a bunch of lying crap commercial-free. That’s a campaign contribution and someone should file suit to get an injunction against ABC airing that show at least until it gets a hearing.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:35 pmWhy doesn’t someone point out the fact the Thomas Kean Senior’s son is running for the US Senate in NJ and is not doing well against his Democratic opponent, Robert Menedez. September 6th, 2006 at 12:36 pmBill Clinton, for all his mis-givings, is still respected the world over. At the height of his impeachment hearings, his approval ratings hovered at over 60%. When he travelled the world, he was greeted with respect, joy, and enthusiasm… whereas Bu$h is met with violent protest. Given Bill’s unique position as a former president, he should use his de-facto bully pulpit to assault the airwaves before this fraudulent movie is broadcast. It is up to people like him, with a very loud voice, to shout LOUDER than the right wing corporations that enable republican control of government by collusion, to the point of fascism.

September 6th, 2006 at 12:51 pmTexas Star is a clinton conspiracy theorist.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:54 pm#82 Texas I think you just need to swap the words Republican and Democrat and your statement accurately reflects current reality.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:56 pm#70
Hey everyone, I just read all the ABC/Scholastic “study materialsâ€, they are also severely flawed and slanted.
I think it warrants a massive LTE campaign. When editors get pounded with thousands of letters about something like this, they have a tendency to sit up and take notice. And, sometimes, if the wire services aren’t saying much about it, they’ll assign someone to look into it.
This is the 2006 equivalent of the Swift Boat Liars.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:56 pmPost 79 G.W. > After the Bush lover zombies are lobotimized, they will drool a lot and mumble silly things, but they will be harmless morons > lol.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:56 pmI sent a long tirade including this –
I am only one person, but I pledge to you that I will never again turn on ABC if you continue on this course– It is my own boycott. My own way of saying I am doing something to try to save democracy in the United States.
It’s not much. But it’s all that I’ve got. I won’t contribute to the destruction of truth and I will not support of the anti-democratic corruption in the United States in which your corporation is engaged.
September 6th, 2006 at 12:56 pmInteresting the cheerleaders-who-blame-everyone-else have as usual avoided observations such as my one at #37. So according to their logic, if the next president is a Democrat and America gets attacked during his time (oh I don’t know, let’s say by Al Qaeda) He would be perfectly right and justified to not take any responsibility for it, because George Bush let Bin Laden go at least twice and disbanded the people who should have found him. It would all be Bush’s fault.
Unless of course it’s one rule for neocons and another for everyone else, is what they’re trying to hide behind.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:00 pmA nice slander lawsuit might be just what ABC needs to bring back to it’s stockholders as a reward for this endeavor.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:02 pmESPN is part of ABC/Disney…remember it is a huge conglomerate. That said, while I can handle boycotting ABC, I will probably watch MNF. Unless I have a ratings box in my house anyway. I also cannot deprive my kids of the joys of classic Disney because of the actions of a few who are currently in control of this great piece of Americana. I just have to hope that the stock holders come to their sences.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:03 pmBill Clinton never blamed Bush Sr or Ronald Raygun for the mess that those two clowns created. Clinton cleaned up their mess in two years without complaining.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:04 pmMaybe ABC should air somehting really based on an actual timeline and 9/11 commission report, something say like, “9/11: Press for Truth” 911pressfortruth.com/. Shame on ABC, shame on the Bush White House and Shame on the Americans who support these criminals.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:05 pmThank God for small favors, Monday Night Football is now on ESPN.
Let’s get this straight.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:05 pmMONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IS ON ESPN
ESPN IS OWNED BY ABC/DISNEY
GOT IT?
plunger, #83, could you post the links? Now that I’m done studying for the bar, I’d like to research those claims.
Thanks, friend.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:07 pm[…] Oh, and they’ve flooded the right wing echo chamber (including blogs) with preview DVDs, but refuse to give any to real media critics, progressives, or Clinton, Albright, or Berger (all of whom are portrayed in a negative light in the movie). Meanwhile, chumps like Hugh Hewitt and the mouthbreathers at Patterico and bloated drug whore con Limbaugh are treated to prostate massages and free tickets to the Star Trek porn convention. […]
September 6th, 2006 at 1:10 pmComment by Chris H.
Disney stock closed at $29.85 yesterday, opened at $29.72, and is currently at $29.61.
Apparently the market is not too pleased with Disney today.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:11 pm#82 Texas Star
Isn’t it just amazing. The truth hurts, doesn’t it!!!
You wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and bit you on the ass. There’s a world of difference between the truth and your flapping lips. Back up your crap with some sources for a change.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:12 pmClinton was to blame for 911 and no one else!
Well, sane people would probably blame Al Qaeda most of all.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:12 pmBriseadh na Faire
Hope the bar exam goes well for you. My wife is an attorney and I remember well when she went through that - quite an ordeal. I suspect that you will be excellent as an attorney. Any idea what area you are interested in?
September 6th, 2006 at 1:14 pm“Why didn’t Bush Sr. and Clinton go after Bin Laben? This man could have been dead years before 9/11 by either president. It is sad that neither man could grow a pair of nuts and kill that man. ”
As previous posts have pointed out, Clinton was very focussed on getting Bin Laden. When he asked for new legislaton to help his fight against Al Qaida, the Republicans refused to give him the tools he asked for. When he bombed Bin Laden’s camp, the repubs yelled “Wag the Dog!”
But he was successful in closing down something like 20 Al Qaeda cells. His administration did thwart the Millennium Plot (simultaneously to bomb LAX, Washington D.C. airport, and two middle east targets). Any honest “docudrama” would include all of these facts.
Last year I had the opportunity of asking a security advisor to the Clinton White House whether he thought we would have prevented 9/11 if Al Gore had been president. He thought there would have been a good possibility: that when Gore got any of the warnings ignored by GW, he would have set up a White House situation room to push for daily reports from all agencies tasked with dealing with the threat. We now know there was enough information out there to deal with the 9/11 plot: there was no direction from the top to bring it all together and act on it.
I’m pretty sure Clinton and Gore believe they could have saved us from the 9/11 attack. Politically, of course, they can’t tell us that.
I do hope that Clinton and Berger sue for libel. In the meantime, the reported falsehoods in this upcoming program should be newspaper headlines.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:14 pmExcept the FBI, who do NOT blame UBL for 9/11. He’s on the wanted list, but not for that.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:14 pmFor those who want to take more action, I’ve put up a list of ABC advertisers with their contact info on my blog.
Cheers
September 6th, 2006 at 1:15 pm#103 in response to #100.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:16 pmIf they have nothing to hide, then why not provide them to the individual they intend to smear? After all, that would be the fair thing to do.
The fact is that if they did, they (the writer, producer,Disney, & ABC) would be sued before the fact rather than after the fact and it would never be aired.
I believe this film will totally backfire on the GOP - and will, contrarily, focus the microscope even stronger on 9/11 - and the actual truth of 9/11 in all of it splendor. I don’t really think the GOP wants this at all. Americans are so angry about the Iraq War and this administration already that all they need is more evidence of this administration’s fingerprints on a fake documentary aimed at twisting the real truth and people will be outraged.
Let’s face it….76% americans are fed up with the status quo and want change in November. If ABC airs this bunch of lies and finger pointing (since when do we blame a predecessor for our own woes???) the GOP will definitely implode and the people will take back control of the House and Senate this November…….I can’t wait!
September 6th, 2006 at 1:18 pmABC needs to get the transcript from Richard Cressey’s MSNBC interview on Scarborough Country and get it “straight from the horses’s mouth” (Cressey worked with Bush & Clinton)……..so there you have it……THIS DOCUMENTARY NOT ONLY “GOT THE SMALL STUFF WRONG’ - IT ALSO GOT THE “BIG STUFF WRONG” AS WELL…..what’s left?? Certainly not Truth!
September 6th, 2006 at 1:22 pmPlunger: Thanks for the list of goof-offs who put this fake documentary together. They all need to be fired for ineptitude.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:23 pmUmmm, isn’t it time to call for a boycot of Disney Land?
September 6th, 2006 at 1:24 pmAn alternative way to remember and mourn the loss of life on 9/11 is offered by “Women In Black, Baltimore”:
a “Peace Path” has been organized for Baltimore, Maryland from 4 to 6 PM that evening.
Women In Black, Baltimore is part of the international organization ” …to advocate for peace, justice, and an end to violence worldwide.”
http://www.peacepath911.com
It’s not a march, but a gathering to line Charles St. (the main north-south road in Baltimore) from the Harbor to the city’s beltway.
I hope many Philadelphia and DC readers will find the time to attend.
See Ya,
September 6th, 2006 at 1:26 pmTed Koppel is glad he left ABC, now that the network has become a GOP affiliated piece of steaming crap!
September 6th, 2006 at 1:27 pmThis is just another salvo fired at us in what will quite
possibly be the ugliest, most brutal midterm elections
in our history.
It’s going to get much worse and we need to push
September 6th, 2006 at 1:28 pmback early, often, and as hard as possible.
My local ABC affiliate is owned by Sinclair… so much for the “liberal Media Bias” …what a straw boogeyman. The next time my former friends on the right start spewing “the liberal Main Stream Media bias ” shit, i’m going to punch them sguare in the teeth.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:29 pm#110 Plunger. yep. “Operation Northwoods”. PNAC. NWO (no, not the wrestlers).I know this list is MUCH longer…
September 6th, 2006 at 1:37 pmSeriously, is this even legal? Could Clinton and Albright and Co. sue ABC for allowing these lies to be aired AND for essentially slandering them on TV like this? I highly doubt I could just make a movie protraying ANY politicians of being mentally retarded and implying that they furiously masterbate to Nazi propaganda…because it’s a lie and totally inappropriate to do so. Isn’t there laws protecting the unauthorized use of Clinton or other public officials without their consent? Clinton may be a different issue as he is supposedly shown through news footage and what not, but the others?
BUt for ABC to fund this movie, allow it to air without commericals or proper disclaimers, to sell it as fact and based on the 9/11 commission report, and then to block any left-winger from seeing it EVEN those it SMEARS through inaccurate representations. Clearly ABC is running strict and strong damage control. Their actions are those of a company who wants this to air first and have people question it later, if they ever do.
ABC is going to do everything they can to strong-arm this into people’s homes as FACT. They will do everything they can to block criticism from reaching the general public and that includes shutting out the very people who are mentioned in the movie. ABC wouldn’t want Clinton to denounce the movie or any one else and as long as they don’t get to see it, ABC can cast their complaints as being biased and partisan and without proper evidence.
Who knew ABC could be so unethical and corrupt? Between this and pushing this smear-campaing of a movie into high school to encourage future voters to be Republican…this is seriously disgusting and there should be investigations and lawsuits.

September 6th, 2006 at 1:44 pmObviously they want it to air first. They are not stupid people, and know that any lies will be refuted and battled — but once it airs, it will have done a measure of propoganda damage. Many who see it — particularly children, who are not inclined to question the truth value of such things — will accept all or most of it as being factual. Once the propoganda is disseminated to the audience it has done its work. Trying to do damahge control on propoganda is very difficult, as it places ideas in the mindset, and seeds subtle connections. The problem with deprogramming those affected by propoganda is similar to the problem of battling ‘terrorism’: the ideas have been placed, and if they are set in the mind, if the mind accepts the idea as truth, then it is difficult to alter that perception… even traumatic.
Therefore, they understand the issues they will face after it airs, and are ready and willing to face the consequences that they anticipate, but for their plan to work with this IT MUST AIR, and it must reach as many as possible. Seeding the children with the school program is the lowest form of propoganda, and it should be stopped at all costs.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:51 pmI will not watch ABC again!
September 6th, 2006 at 2:07 pmI submitted this on the ABC ‘Path to 9/11‘ blog :
It is my understanding that the film will run short due to the Ad-Free format.
“Originally slated for two three-hour time slots, the missing commercial time will now require short-news programs to fill the gapâ€. - Media Daily News
A possible solution to fill the missing time would be to obtain comments on the piece from those directly involved.
Richard Clarke
Madeleine Albright
Samuel Berger
Roger Cressey
Bill Clinton
There is plenty of time to obtain some 1 minute on camera comments by these notables and many have already shown a willingness to comment.
This would demonstrably show that neither the Producers or ABC Network were were trying to present a skewed viewpoint and indeed held the Facts of 9/11 in the high regard they deserve fitting of this historically solemn event
September 6th, 2006 at 2:08 pmOh Right, I’ll believe it when I see it.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:11 pmI know people who don’t have a tv. They won’t be watching it.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:34 pm[…] When ABC refused to provide liberal and centrist organizations and bloggers advanced copies of the “fallacydrama”, meanwhile already providing pre-release copies to right-wing organizations and bloggers, I shrugged and basically thought, “Eh, it just underscored the lack of credibility the film has.” But when ABC refuses to give pre-releases to the offices of former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger and the former President of the United States William Jefferson Clinton, this has gone from bad press to embarrassingly irrevocably damaging press. But ABC has refused to provide a copy to President Clinton’s office. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former National Security Adviser Samuel Berger have also requested copies of the film from ABC, and both have been denied. Both Berger and Albright are harshly criticized in the film in scenes that, according to former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, are “180 degrees from what happened.†[…]
September 6th, 2006 at 2:38 pmABC and its affiliates are hereby blocked until further notice.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:42 pm[…] And interestingly enough, while ABC has provided copies of the movie to Rush Limbaugh and right-wing bloggers, it refuses to give it out to Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger or Madeleine Albright. […]
September 6th, 2006 at 2:44 pmABC Refuses to Provide Copies of Path to 9/11 to Clinton, Albright, Berger…
Partisan loyalty trumps historical accuracy at ABC….
September 6th, 2006 at 2:59 pmWelcome to Disneyland: Who needs reality, when we got some fresh baked bullcakes we just pulled out of the grease my palm oven. Best administration money can buy. Don’t ya just love a spineless government that spits in your face and says “I don’t have to do a damn thing for you, we make the reality this term and we’ve been setting up for additional terms for nearly 7 years”. No work, all campaign. Bush didnt have to worry over whether to run away to Canada and freeze while hiding out and pulling deer ticks out of his ankles. He got to pretend he was in Alabama doing Texas Air National Guard duty while him and his buddy Bath avoided drug tests and spent alot of time just over the border supporting the human bondage which is prostitution, giving mexican canteena patrons funny nicknames, staying brain damagingly drunk and abusing narcotics. It’s known as Draft Dodging Deluxe. But he and alot of deluded neo-criminals got this idea that they can speak to the rest of us about a noble cause and with the authority we’ve invested in them there should be no questioning their “resolve”. Like I said Welcome to Disneyland. oh and screw ABC. They are truly the Benedict Arnolds of the broadcast industry.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:06 pmSo they wouldn’t give Sandy the burglar any info huh…tsktsktsk.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:16 pmSandy can probably find a copy at the National Archives to stuff down his pants “accidently”
September 6th, 2006 at 3:47 pmDear Iben (Hakenaluggi)
you should be proud anyone in government would be as brave as to smuggle “copies” of documents they created in the first place out of the library of congress for the sole purpose of remembering accurately statements for a report that was to be submitted voluntarily. Considering the inconsistencies and the phenomenal national shame associated with Bush being unwilling to testify to the 911 commission (whom they fought tooth and nail to legally prohibit, and then prevent from establishing any meaningful dertermination by refusing to provide documents for) without his shotgun wielding surrogate “daddy”, and only under the conditions that they “NOT BE SWORN IN TO TELL THE TRUTH” (so much for being born again into the faith, production line christianity offers). Sandy Berger is a public servant and an admirable human being and united states citizen. The current administration and it’s supporters are racketeers and criminals. No matter how you try to reverse that and say that up is down the fact remains. My advise, … run the concept past Disney, … they seem aptly equipped to entertain that line of thinking and could offer truthiness scenarios to establish what you feel you need to say.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:51 pm[…] - Only the kool-aid drinkers can plug into it. […]
September 6th, 2006 at 3:55 pmDaily Kos has an excellent one-stop resource for contacting people on the 9/11 mockumentary, in a diary called Path to 9/11 - Big List of Action Contacts, by blogger highacidity. The diary lists contacts to ABC, the Disney Co., Scholastic (which is providing 100,000 teaching aids on the movie that contain many distortions), BBC 2 (which is planning to air the mockudrama as well), and many other pertinent contacts.
Please visit DKos, grab the contact list, and start dialing and emailing…it’s not too late to stop this travesty!
September 6th, 2006 at 4:03 pmI wonder if the laws forbidding airing political ads or biased content less than 90 days prior to an election could be used to stop this, or at least delay it? It’s already been established in court that things can be blocked that are not political ads put out by the candidate him or herself. That law has also been used to block propaganda from being aired that came from sources unconnected to the campaigns. Judges have ruled that even if it comes from an third party as some sort of “public service”, it can be blocked if the timing is obviously to sway elections. Just a thought.
September 6th, 2006 at 4:04 pmBin Laden’s weapon of choice is BANKRUPTCY! And thanks to Bush, it seems to be working.
September 6th, 2006 at 4:09 pmPartisanship, desperation attempts to revise history in favor of Bush&Co. with a phony documentary is stooping to a new low.
September 6th, 2006 at 4:11 pmNot providing those whom they incriminate with an advance copy is grossly undemocratic and unfair. But who ever said Republiscum were fair and balanced.
Even the courts allow the the accused to face the accuser, learn of what evidence there is, and offer their defense.
This is an unconscionable travesty by ABC.
Good point in post #140.
September 6th, 2006 at 4:14 pmWasn’t there a certain Ronald Reagan movie that was moved to cable after a right-wing uproar over its “accuracy” etc.? What a double standard! There should be a great uproar from the sane people in this world. I’ve had ENOUGH of corporate media!
September 6th, 2006 at 4:18 pmIt is times like there when I really like the fact I have no tv and no access to one. I believe the hype and counter-hype only serve to magnify the undeserved attention this drama is receiving. It is a kind of Revenge on Michael Moore strategy cooked up by Bush supporters including the media moguls at Disney. I quit supporting Disney in every conscious way I could some years ago–right after the birth of my son.
Letterman has it right. “it’s only television”. The converted are already converted and the skeptical are already skeptical in this polarized environment. If you oppose this broadcast, by all means write the broadcasters—but also withdraw your support in the marketplace for its sponsors. Every last one of them. It will speak louder than the voice of righteous indignation.
September 6th, 2006 at 4:33 pmthis is quite an interesting fantasy world you guys live in
September 6th, 2006 at 4:56 pmRogerRoger: “Why didn’t Bush Sr. and Clinton go after Bin Laben?”
Roger, there seems to be a lot of unused space there between your ears. I suggest you fill some of it up with facts. Clinton was 45 minutes late in an attempt to kill bin Laden by hitting a terrorist training camp with cruise missles. Would Clinton have been successful or 45 minutes sooner with the missle if he hadn’t been forced by Republicans to spend the entire morning in deposition answering questions about oral sex? We’ll never know. But, Clinton did try to kill bin Laden.
September 6th, 2006 at 5:00 pm[…] ABC won’t give President Clinton, Madeleine Albright or Sandy Berger a copy of their 9/11 docudrama, “The Path to 9/11.” But there is virtually nothing about the film ABC won’t share with the right-wing blogosphere. […]
September 6th, 2006 at 5:12 pm#147 I’m sorry if you think that’s true. I heard Bill Clinton on the Al Franken show shortly before the 2004 election and he said that one of his biggest disappointments was not going after Osama when he had the chance. I’m sorry I have to paraphrase there, it’s been a long time since the interview. But the basics of his comments I still remember. I’m sure he would have said that he tried and just missed if that were true.
September 6th, 2006 at 5:13 pmI received this from our ABC station:
Michael: Thanks for your e-mail and follow up on the ABC Television Network broadcast of “The Path to 9/11.†this Sunday and Monday. We inquired as to the sourcing of the materials and the claims we are receiving that there is a political agenda. Here is ABC’s reply:
“The Path to 9/11 is a dramatization, not a documentary, drawn from a variety of sources, including the 9/11 Commission Report, other published materials and from personal interviews. The events that lead to 9/11 originally sparked great debate, so it’s not surprising that a movie surrounding those events has revived the debate. The attacks were a pivotal moment in our history that should never be forgotten and it’s fitting that the discussion continues.â€
I have been told by ABC that the following disclaimer will air throughout the movie:
“The following movie is a dramatization that is drawn from a variety of sources including the 9/11 Commission Report and other published materials, and from personal interviews. The movie is not a documentary. For dramatic and narrative purposes, the movie contains fictionalized scenes, composite and representative characters and dialogue, as well as time compression.”
I do understand your concern and do not believe there is any political agenda from the ABC Television Network. And I believe this is a good opportunity to discuss the controversy.
We are putting together a panel to view the docudrama and then be part of a group to discuss and comments on their opinions as part of a news story to be broadcast in our late news on Monday evening.
To that end, we are asking participants to watch the docudrama at home on Sunday evening, then join us at RTV6 to watch the final evening then participate in the discussion.
If you are interested in being part of this, please let me know by Friday noon.
Don Lundy
Vice President & General Manager
RTV 6 Indianapolis
Not sure I’m armed with the ability to notice what is fact/fiction in the movie. Should I do this?
September 6th, 2006 at 5:13 pm[…] Though the piece criticizes President Clinton, former counter-terrorism czar Richard Clarke, and Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, ABC has refused to provide any of their offices with copies and has apparently distributed over 900 copies to right-wing bloggers. Even Bush counterterrorism official Roger Cressey has decried the film as “shameful” and inaccurate. […]
September 6th, 2006 at 5:16 pmThis may be the result of one of the lesser known scandals of the Clinton adminstration: the cronic late video returns.
September 6th, 2006 at 6:04 pmhey texas star-
what the hell happened to texas, man? there was once a time that no self-respecting texan would trust an ivy league cheerleader from connecticut.

here, i’ll make up a new one for you: his father was a wimp, and so is he. (seriously, folks, the entire reason for this cowboy - tough guy image that failure boy puts on goes back to his father being called a wimp).
i, personally, would love the opportunity to call bush a wimp to his face.
September 6th, 2006 at 6:30 pmNot surprisingly, even though the blog is up again… my old comments were never “approved”.. and I doubt the one that I posted will be approved either.

September 6th, 2006 at 7:00 pmAS A TEACHER OF HISTORY AND HAVING STUDIED THE THIRD REICH FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE PAST 45 YEARS, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE CANNOT SEE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN HOW THE NAZIS CAME TO POWER AND HOW THE NEOCONS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE DOING IT! REICHSTAG FIRE=9/11. THE ENABLING ACT=DISREGARDING THE CONSTITUTION. “HOMELAND SECURITY” & SPYING ON THE PEOPLE=THE GESTAPO, ETC AD FINITUM (OR AD NAUSEUM). THOSE WHO SUPPORT A REGIME GUILTY OF THESE THINGS ARE ACCOMPLICES. ABC, LIKE FOX, HAS BECOME A MOUTHPIECE FOR BUSH, FUNCTIONING LIKE RADIO BERLIN. IN-CIDENTALLY, I HAVE NEVER CARED AT ALL FOR MICKEY MOUSE. OUT OF RESPECT FOR WALT DISNEY, HE IS ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE OVER THIS!
September 6th, 2006 at 7:13 pm911 was used an an excuse to start the war in Iraq, and whether or not the U.S. Gov’t had something to do with it, or was merely inept is cause for serious discussion. Why haven’t the indescrepencies been on the front pages of all the major newspapers in the country? I’ll tell you why, the repulicans own many of these newspapers, and even the papers that aren’t owned outright by right-wingers, and owned by folks who will do NOTHING to offend their advertizers and subscribers. The day of real news is dead.. Everything in the media is now propaganda. Look at Fox News; they begin discussing something factual, then all of a sudden they bring Ann Coulter! What the hell is with that? That’s when I realized years ago Fox was total bullsh*t. As far as out and out corruption at the highest levels, all one has to do is look at (legitimate) U.S. History, and look at the Rise (and fall) of the Third Reich. U.S. history reflects that the wealthy cattlemen, railmen, and industrialists (and later, oilmen) moved steadily westward stealing land in huge swaths and killing the native peoples for their personal gain. This is the same as what’s happening in Iraq. Look at the facts; a wealthy bunch of Republicans destroys a country so they can rebuild it? Translation; we’ll go in, blow the s*it out of them and take over. We’ll get the oil, the land, and the construction no-bid contracts. Hell, we can even steal pallets full of cash while we’re there, what could be sweeter?
It’s the same formula the evil, wealthy elite have always followed. Find a poor people/nation, and rape them completely (just make sure they have brown skin).
As far as the Third Reich, Cheney is basically following Hitler’s rise to power. I say Cheney, because he is the brains behind this whole debacle known as the Bush presidency. Bush is only a “good ol boy” figurehead, and he’s not even doing that well. At any rate, do a little research and you’ll see how this administration tells huge lies using the media, and keeps hammering them home as if they are gospel. (Hitler said, “If you tell a big enough lie often enough, they will believe it.”) Look how the NSA(SS) are spying on the American people, and how this was sneakily implemented well before 911, which is the reason this administration is giving for this illegal snooping. Look at how Haliburton, Betchel, The Carlyle Group, Exxon-Mobile, etc, seamlessly and secretly blend with the current administration. Is that not the exact definition of Facism?
——————————————————————————–
September 6th, 2006 at 7:30 pmThe only true, free media now is the internet; why do you thing the NSA is monitoring every transmission? They want to nip any rabble-rousers in the bud. If there’s a person or group seriously gaining momentum in achieving a large anti-bush, anti gov’t, or at least anti-present administration following, they will take steps to quash this individual or movement.
