When Tom DeLay announced his resignation from Congress in June 2006, he said he wanted to “pursue new opportunities to engage in the important cultural and political battles of our day from an arena outside of the U.S. House of Representatives.”
This morning, DeLay officially took up the important cultural/political battle of ABC’s reality show “Dancing with the Stars.” DeLay sent a mass e-mail to his supporters urging them to “help a good friend of mine, country music singer and GOP supporter Sara Evans,” who will be competing in this season’s show. From the letter (full text HERE):
Sara Evans has been a strong supporter of the Republican Party and represents good American values in the media. From singing at the 2004 Republican Convention to appearing with candidates in the last several election cycles, we have always been able to count on Sara for her support of the things we all believe in. … One of her opponents on the show is ultra liberal talk show host Jerry Springer. We need to send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television by supporting good people like Sara Evans.
Evans also sang at the 2004 Presidential Dinner, where Bush said, “I love the voice of Sara Evans.” She appears on a conservative website as “Babe of the Week” in a picture of her with Bush.
When your efforts to control Congress over, there’s always reality TV dancing.

September 6th, 2006 at 2:33 pmEvans can get down on the filthy floor and do the “Worm” like the rest of her reichwing buds.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:33 pmHi Sara, I’ve never made my girlfriend have an abortion. Will you go with me?
Love and Kisses,

September 6th, 2006 at 2:38 pmOne of her opponents on the show is ultra liberal talk show host Jerry Springer. We need to send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television by supporting good people like Sara Evans.
So….will Jerry be dancing the lambada? Is that the ’smut’ that good Tom DeLay will be protecting us from???
I said this before in another thread, but it applies here as well:
Tom, do us all a big favor and get over yourself. With your record, you have nothing to say about ‘values’.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:40 pmGOP women mop the house! (Unless you’re Tom Delay’s whore wife.)
September 6th, 2006 at 2:40 pmSounds like ABC and the GOP got married > lol. Now Tom DeLay helps ABC > wow this is weird! I never heard that Repubs even know how to dance?
September 6th, 2006 at 2:41 pmWhen I think of Tom Delay I think of forced abortions in sweat shops in Saipan. Oh the memories…
September 6th, 2006 at 2:41 pmBoy that leg spread pose really speaks to good conservative values.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:44 pmFOR SHAME:

September 6th, 2006 at 2:50 pmFOX’s answer to ABC, “Dancing with a Blow-up Doll”
September 6th, 2006 at 2:52 pmCan’t think of a better ideological battleground than Dancing with the Stars
September 6th, 2006 at 2:53 pmIf it’s on ABC, isn’t she a lock to win?
September 6th, 2006 at 2:56 pmOMG! Did you see that “Last week’s Babe of the Week” was Katherine Harris! I don’t dare look at HER pictures, my mind is still stuck with the image of her flirting with Sean Hannity and thrusting out her boobs - aagghh!
September 6th, 2006 at 2:56 pmI think his right knee has alot to do with the smile on Sara’s face.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:57 pmI understand Jerry Springer is competing on Dancing with the Stars this season (ABC network). Jerry Springer, as most of you know, is one of the voices of Air America Radio. With ABC airing the GOP propaganda Path to 911 I find Springer’s participation on “Dancing” to be unpalatable. How can the Progressive community hope to organize a boycott of ABC and yet have one of its few voices help bring the network ratings and money? I urge you to write Mr. Springer and suggest he back out of the show.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:58 pmDon’t take this “Babe of the Week” site too seriously — if you look at the rogue’s gallery on the left side of their web page, you’ll see there’s at least one man (mAnn Coulter) and one alien (Katherine Harris) listed amongst the alleged “babes” of the repuke-lican party.
And mAnn coulter is on the top of the list — does that mean she gets to poke the rest of them with her tracking poll???
September 6th, 2006 at 2:59 pmOne question: Is Sara the “star” in Dancing with the Stars? I’ve never heard of her.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:59 pmLOL, this is funny, cmon think about it, so far all the Neo-Cons this far have been proven to be complete Hypocrites, even Mr. Frenchy Delay here.
What will actually happen is the ‘liberals’ will take over and make it more liberal than ever before lmao..
September 6th, 2006 at 2:59 pmA win for the Neo-Cons is IN FACT a win for the liberals..
September 6th, 2006 at 3:00 pmYeh sure they will run around and proclaim Jesus this and Jesus that but under that cloak we know the truth..

Yeah really, what else is ABC going to do to help the radical right? I can’t wait for the FCC investigations over all of this money and influence being thrown around this close to an election.
Of course DeLay would be involved.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:04 pmIf Sara Evans and Jerry Springer had a kid, would it look/act like Bill Maher?

Yeh thats for sure!!
After I learned that 40% of Chrisitian men are addicted to porno, and 20% of the women as well, I joined my local church, it’s easier than going to nightclubs and picking up women and you don’t have to buy them drinks!!
September 6th, 2006 at 3:33 pmSince it’s on “Path to 9/11″ ABC, I assume the contest is already rigged so Sara Evans wins. No need to even bother watching.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:48 pm“The Dance to 9/11″ only on ABC.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:49 pmGotta love that spraddle-legged model pose in the top right picture. Who needs dignity when you’ve got a picture of yourself next to the President?
September 6th, 2006 at 3:56 pmI’m sorry, was there a new reality show on TV? And somebody cares who wins? What kind of pathetic loser would care who wins a reality show? Oh, right, DeLay.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:58 pmTV Sluts on ABC get ‘The Hammer’!
September 6th, 2006 at 3:58 pmTom DeLay, former Republican whip & known criminal has agreed to help Disney in another fairytale production known as ‘Dancing with the Inmates’.
Tom chose Bubba, his favorite partner to do the Mucaca, a well known Virginia shuffle. Shithead Allen will sing the verses while Tom tries to get into step with Bubba, who is well known in Virginia political circles.
The FCC has let it be known that any obscenities are OK if they only involve Disney characters Shooter, Scooter, Porky Rove & President Goofy. Tony Snowhite will offer brief critiques on the hot action, and may kiss the winner unless Joe Loserman intervenes.
Don’t miss this hot action! If Tom wins, Kathryn Harris has promised to lead the next number in a wet T shirt contest.
Janet Jackson has refused to dance again, citing wardrobe issues.
Okay, now picture George Bush busting in, full flight suit, carrying a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher, and says…
“Nobody puts baby in a corner.”

September 6th, 2006 at 4:03 pmHow does participating in a dance show equate with smut? What’s his point of reference — What kind of dancing does Delay do?

September 6th, 2006 at 9:25 pmdixie,
I was flipping through the channels the other day, trying to find something on Steve Irwin, and I found one of these dance competitions. It was absolutely horrible. The men looked so feminine; the women looked terrifying; and the dancing sucked.
I actually don’t dance, but if I decided to dance, the guy I’m dancing with better be holding me like he means it, and looking into my eyes. Otherwise, dude might as well be dancing with any other girl in the room.

Thats an opinion that many don’t agree with, but you are free to come to your own conclusions.
Delay talks about important social battles but his record shows that he is NOT worried about important cultural and social battles unless he profits from it. Just as with his Petri Dish of exploitation in the Mariannas.
September 7th, 2006 at 1:28 amTrinary Suka,
Why would Sara need to accept funding from somebody to be on Dancing with the Stars? That doesn’t make ANY sense.
I can’t believe all of these bitter comments that are being made about Jerry, Sara, Tom, etc.
And, I don’t know who Tom is, or what he’s done, but I support Sara because I’m a fan of hers, and always will be. I’m not behind Tom at all, because I don’t keep up with politics.
September 7th, 2006 at 1:45 amOh, now I see, Evans father, Jack Evans is a politician.

DC: Evans charged PAC for companion’s travel expenses to Far East
The Washington Post reports: D.C. Council member Jack Evans now says that his political action committee paid some of the travel expenses of a close friend when she went on a trade mission to Asia with him last year.
In his weekly newsletter released Friday, Evans (D-Ward 2) said, “One of the expenses that the PAC covered was for the lodging of a friend, who traveled to China as part of an official Washington delegation.” …
An attorney for the PAC, N. William Jarvis, said yesterday that the $6,772.72 reimbursement not only went toward Ralls’s lodging but also covered some of her travel inside China and Thailand and perhaps some meals that she and Evans had together. Jarvis said the reimbursement went to Evans because he was the one who covered those costs.
Asked whether it was appropriate to use the PAC to pay for some of Ralls’s travel expenses, Jarvis said: “The PAC clearly believes so. It was a business-related trip in the political life of Jack Evans.” .

Makes perfect sense to me .
Tom Helps Jack by helping Sarah Help Jack Help Tom and Tom gets a chance to diss Jerry Springer and Hoollywood in general and get his corrupt mug on the television for some free GOP propaganda 8^]
Sarah is likely an innocent bystander Hunter, don’t let that stop you from listening to her music =)
September 7th, 2006 at 2:10 amNever dance with a Republican because they are clumsey > never have sex with a Republican because they are lousy lovers > never hug or kiss one either because they are cold as ice!
September 7th, 2006 at 2:10 amI didn’t know supporting the republican party meant representing good American values. You must mean such values as: don’t let the people decide the next president, let the courts decide - never question the leader - war is good (for America) - never turn the other cheek - judge someone else before they judge you - blacks are bad/whites are good. Very American indeed, Seems almost as American as Hitler back in 1939.
September 7th, 2006 at 3:37 amWhat a perfect parallel to Republican politics in general–it doesn’t matter if she can dance, vote for her because she’s a Republican: it doesn’t matter if the candidate can govern (or think, or speak), vote for them because they are Republican
September 7th, 2006 at 8:51 ami would like to address comment #11, Sara DID take Craig’s last name!!!! it’s just not her stage name, because she was well known before they were married!!!!!! Sara is a great role model, especially for teenage girls, she puts God and her family above her career and would give everything up for them, she is a kind hearted person and does not deserve this criticism.
September 7th, 2006 at 10:25 amHaven’t any of you ever seen Bambi, with the old Thumper rule? If you can’t say something nice about someone, just keep your mouth shut. If you really knew Sara and followed some of her career, you would see that she is a kind hearted woman, who’s life does not revolve around politics. Her life revolves around her husband, and three kids. Sara does not all this trash talk and critism for something that she had nothing to do with. Tom Delay is the one who made the comments above, NOT SARA! I doubt if Sara was even asked her opinion if she wished Tom to give her this “support.” ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Sara Evans has nothing to do with politics. Some of you have said so pretty mean comments about Sara and she doesn’t deserve it. You can all your negative comments about Sara and shove them where the sun don’t shine for all I care. Sara is an amazing singer, wife, mother and human being. I wish that I could say the same for some of you on this thread. If you want to know how great of a human being Sara is go to google.com, type in Sara Evans, and read her bio. She is involved with many organizations and charities and has been through a lot to get where she is today, and does not deserve your rude commments.
September 7th, 2006 at 11:02 amTrinary Suka,
You still make no sense.
-Hunter
September 7th, 2006 at 11:08 amI completely agree with Emily G. Sara is such a great person and many of you who have trashed her know nothing about her. Who cares what political party she is with or who she supports; her being a Republican has nothing to do with her being on “Dancing With the Stars”. Our country and our world in fact need more people like Sara Evans. She is completely devoted to her faith, family, friends, and fans. She never says anything negative about anyone. And who cares that her last name is Evans (and not Schelske). As far as I’m concerned, “Sara Evans” is her stage name. In case you haven’t noticed, many (maybe even most) women in the limelight keep their maiden names. (Take this into consideration: Faith Hill uses her first husband’s last name.) So, I back up Sara Evans one hundred percent and know what she’s all about. All of you will soon see the support she gets and that support will carry her a long, long way.
-Emily W.
September 7th, 2006 at 12:23 pmDon’t watch DWTS, or any other “Reality” show — however, I would watch (and pay money) to watch TD dancing with Bubba in prison — he would definitely win the “sweetheart of the cellblock” award!
September 7th, 2006 at 12:34 pmoops, Sara just lost a fan. I think I’ll go buy another copy of that new Dixie Chicks album.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:07 pmBottom line- It doesn’t matter that Sara Evans is a repulican or not, that is not the point of this show, it is meant for the participants to have a good time and to entertain viewers. While there is an arena to further their political views, this is not it! If you want to watch the show-do it. If you think Sara did well-vote for her. If not, let it go.. Sara didn’t ask for Tom Delay’s support, he wrote that because he is entitled to his opinion, as are you. However, I don’t think you should make malicious comments about Sara Evans. She has nothing to do with the reasons you don’t like Tom Delay or her political party.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:04 pmThank you Diana. For those of us who DO support Sara Evans, let’s not waste our time with this site. It’s quite obvious most people on here know absolutely nothing about Sara Evans or her surroundings. Continue on supporting her, because WE KNOW who she is and what she represents.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:36 pmThank you Diana. For those of us who do indeed support Sara Evans, let’s not waste our time on this site. It’s quite obvious that most of the people on here have not done their research and know nothing about Sara Evans. WE KNOW who she is and what she represents. All the others are far too interested in politics to realize the meaning and truth behind it all.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:40 pmWho really gives a sh*t what Tom Delay thinks anyway? He is obviously a crook, a hypocrite, and an idiot. If you choose to follow him, by all means do. Oh yeah. Who the hell is Sarah Evans? She is a star of what genre? I think at best she is a fringe psuedo celebrity.
September 8th, 2006 at 4:46 pmFirst of all I had to google this “Sara Evans” to even figure out who she was. So, I don’t know how much of a “star” she is.
Emily W. wrote in regard to the Sara Evans critics :
“All the others are far too interested in politics to realize the meaning and truth behind it all.”
Common, give me a break. Or didn’t you realize you were at a political oriented website? People aren’t here to hear about how wonderful country singers are. They are here to hash and rehash political events.
“We KNOW who she is and what she represents” you write.
To the non- Sara Evans fan it appears as if she represents another hypocrite who claims to be conservative and god fearing while prancing around half naked on national television- while accepting the support of a criminal career politicians who should be living in exile. I can see what she represents, apparently you can’t.
If Sara Evans was not a shameless Tom Delay supporter then she would have denounced his support.
End of story.
September 9th, 2006 at 8:27 pmAt first, I too thought DeLay would back Tucker Carlson, but DeLay is no dummy and isn’t in the habit of backing losers. Tucker is a clear loser - he can’t dance to save his soles!
September 13th, 2006 at 3:43 pmAt first I too thought DeLay’s candidate would be Tucker Carlson. But DeLay’s no fool, and he’s not in the habit of backing losers - and Carlson is a loser! He can’t dance to save his soles!
September 13th, 2006 at 3:45 pmWell, Sara’s dancing was stiff and she seemed terrified every moment she was on camera. She was better than Tucker Carlson, but that’s not saying much. Tucker got the boot, but Sara, who got the second lowest judges rating, did not end up in the bottom 3. I guess her country music fans and Tom Delay supporters helped her sail into the next round.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:39 amHere is the bottom line….Sara Evans can’t dance and judging from her facial expressions on Tuesday night…she doesn’t take criticism well.
September 14th, 2006 at 1:42 pmIf she is so “family values” oriented….why is she endlessly traveling with her kids on the tour bus??? What kind of life is that for them????
If you think this isnt a political agenda using a country music prop, think again…Her hubby is a staunch Republican Congressman and I am sure he would love the publicity for himself and the neocons.
[…] Unlike Tucker Carlson, country singer Sara Evans has been talented enough to avoid elimination from ABC’s Dancing the Stars. She even had the support of Tom DeLay, who in a letter to his supporters, asked people to vote for her because she represented “good American values“: Sara Evans has been a strong supporter of the Republican Party and represents good American values in the media. … One of her opponents on the show is ultra liberal talk show host Jerry Springer. We need to send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television by supporting good people like Sara Evans. […]
October 13th, 2006 at 1:01 pmMs Evans just quit the show, because she is divorcing her GOP Congressional-candidate husband, who she accuses of adultery, spousal abuse, and internet-porn-watching. More good Republican family values!
October 13th, 2006 at 4:53 pm[…] Back in June, I blogged about a representative from a “Christian Nation” group known as American Destiny appearing on Hannity and Colmes. That speaker just happened to be one Craig Schelske, who also happens to be married to country star Sara Evans of Dancing With the Stars fame, and he also happened to run for Congress as a Republican in Oregon, and he also happens to have a degree from Regent University and is buddies with Tom Delay, who sent a mass email urging his followers to “help a good friend of mine, country music singer and GOP supporter Sara Evans.” […]
October 13th, 2006 at 9:11 pmThank you, Buzzflash.com!
October 13th, 2006 at 9:33 pmMaybe since Sara wised up about Craig Schelske, she’ll wise up about the Republican party too!
October 13th, 2006 at 10:14 pmRegardless of anything else Sara is a “fellow traveler.” Anyone who supports the current administration support either fascism or oligarchy. Both are anti-American. Both are a detriment to the majority of the people, and both have approved torture, spying on Americans, and the undermining of democracy in America. Sara Evans may not be the evil architect of the plan to rob and eventually destroy the middle class, but she aids and abets them. Therefore, it is important what her politics are because the current administration is corrupt and harmful to the citizens of this country.
She can plant a pretty smile on her face. She can say that she doesn’t agree with some of the things the liars of the right wing do, but she is a part of them. She made her bed now she has to sleep in it. It does make a difference what a person’s politics are when the politics are evil, vile, and destructive to the rule of law. Some may not have noticed, but the current administration is changing laws to cover their butts for crimes they have already committed. I’m certain that “common” criminals in prison would love to be able to do the same thing.
October 15th, 2006 at 4:43 pm
