“The idea that somehow we’re staying the course is just wrong. It is absolutely wrong.” Tony Snow, 8/16/06: “The President is determined to stay the course.” It’s all caught on tape.
It’s like that paradoxical statement: “This statement is false.” or one of those cards that says ” To keep a moron busy, flip this card over!” on both sides!

Yes, Snowball, we know that The idea that somehow we’re staying the course is just wrong. It is absolutely wrong. It is absolutely wrong that the U.S. policy is stuck in the whirlpool course. And yes again, Snowball, we know The President is determined to stay the course because and his comrades have been telling us that for years now.
From the Hotline On Call (emphasis added), Tony Snow interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN:
CNN’s Blitzer: “You’ve heard the criticism being leveled at you, that, in effect, you’re blaming the president’s father, the first President Bush, for creating a situation that ultimately led to 9/11, by not finishing the job back in ‘91, getting rid of Saddam Hussein.”
Snow: “You know what I did, Wolf? I screwed up. What I should have done is — I inaccurately phrased what bin Laden had said. What he said, actually, is that in getting out of Somalia, we demonstrated that we didn’t have what it took to stay the course. So what I did is I got the history wrong. And frankly, I blew it. And I have apologized both to President Bush and to Vice President Cheney — that is, the first President Bush and to then the chairman of joint chiefs, Colin Powell. So that was one where the press secretary just flat got it wrong” (”Situation Room,” CNN, 9/5).
“I’m the commander — see, I don’t need to explain — I do not need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting thing about being president.” —as quoted in Bob Woodward’s Bush at War

He can lie on Monday and tell a contradictory lie on Tuesday, but the majority of the public will not notice.
His job is to spin and make it look truthful – the actual content and veracity of his words are immaterial. It’s all for show — it’s the last thing he said – therefore it must be the truth.
Although, trying to erase “stay the course” from public consciousness is a tough job, watch them all use similar phrasing repeatedly in their efforts to get it all removed and replaced with “adapt and win.”
The Dems must keep their “stay the course” and all that it implies (losing strategy, quagmire, stuck in quicksand, false “domino theory,” and press the media and the news interviewers to continue to bring up the attempts at revision of history.
