Over 50,000 ThinkProgress readers have written ABC in the last 48 hours about “The Path to 9/11.” We’re going to keep the pressure on ABC, but we’re also broadening our focus today to the Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC.
Disney’s Chairman of the Board is former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-ME). Senator Mitchell has a long and distinguished career both inside and outside government and he knows how important it is to accurately represent historical events.
We need to remind him that 9/11 was a national tragedy, and that politicizing and flagrantly misrepresenting the facts about 9/11 is wrong.

ABC is feeling the pressure. Let’s keep it up.
OK, here the names, titles and email addresses for a number of key senior Disney decision makers I found, starting at the top
with the CEO and board of directors are at the bottom.
Let’s make our voices heard and see if we can get these guys to pull this blatantly obvious Bush propaganda. ABC may profit from the predictable controversy but airing a film designed to obfuscate Bush’s responsibility for 9/11 will cause ABC to suffer greatly in the estimation of serious people.
Disney and ABC should leave the RNC propaganda to Fox, it’s not ABC’s demographic.

September 7th, 2006 at 6:06 pmExcellent first comment. We need all of these.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:07 pmI always thought George Mitchell was a good man; I’d be dismayed to find he approved of this travesty.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:08 pmMitchell can shut this down. I bet Clinton has already been on the box. Come on, up the pressure. You know what to do.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:08 pmI’m going suggest a film or two he can show instead:
1. Network - where are you now Peter Finch?
2. 1984 - my clock struck thirteen the day the US invaded Iraq.
Can the copyright extension be revoked or rewritten so that Mickey is set loose in the public domain?
September 7th, 2006 at 6:10 pmIn case no one’s noticed, all of this wingnut propaganda is just a ramp up for the next “terrorist” attack which Karl Rove is planning as we speak. If anyone wants to bet against an “incident” before November I’ll book it.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:12 pmGood list, lucid analysis.
I do not know exactly how SPAM filters work, but don’t some of them kick out your message (i.e. label it as ‘junk’) if your mailing list has a whole bunch of names? If so, then it might be necessary to send e-mails one at a time to them, or none of them may see it. If I’m wrong, then I guess it can go out in one shot. Can anyone who knows more about how SPAM filters work educate me? Thanks.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:13 pmwhere are you now Peter Finch?
Sadly, he’s dead. But he did posthumously win the Academy Award for Best Actor, and deservedly so.
As long as they’re going to show movies with John Hurt, why not get the rights to it and show “V For Vendetta” instead. Much more useful movie for people to see, especially after what the right tried to do with this movie.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:16 pmWayne - yup rhetorical question. I’m in Calgary and my TV showed Network last night. I missed most of it, but his speech at the end is still massive….damn these bastards.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:22 pmSurely Disney doesn’t love Amerika just for the money we give them for their crappy movies.
Come on Disney, do the right thing for truth.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:22 pmI Pledge to write at least one Letter everyday from now till they pull the plug
I have already written two letters two Iger, and to feeback@abc, and I had my brother and two of my friends wirte letters.
Let keep this going.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:22 pmThe ABC email firewall also trims out any attachments that aren’t generated within their own network, so make sure any letters are sent within the body of your email and not as an attachment. I know, I know, cut and paste sucks but in this case it’s worth it! ;-)
September 7th, 2006 at 6:24 pm#11 Terry,
I loved it when Peter Finch asked Ned Beatty, “But why me?” “Cause you’re on television, dummy.” That pretty much says it all.
Gotta run. Gotta watch the Mets drop their magic number to seven (7).
September 7th, 2006 at 6:25 pmPurvis - you are right on… I read Alterman in the Guardian today. He thinks they’ll do enough in November to retain control - and you know what they are running on now. You can’t write these bastards off - they are coming for everything Americans should hold dear and have forgotten about.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:25 pmDont fall for the republican stratagy. Dont allow the only discussion to be about ABC this week. The replicans are winning by us focusing on ABC and Donald Rumsfelds rediculous claims. Write the NYtimes to have a feature on the Dem’s Real Security Act of 2006 and have them write an unbiased report

September 7th, 2006 at 6:30 pmRe: comment #14: I meant the Disney/ABC firewall.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:31 pmThis already worked with the Scholastic Press folks! They are issuing a withdrawal of the guides issued to teachers. Enough of Karl Rove’s dirty tricks, this must stop now.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:32 pmI’m from Maine and grew up knowing Geogre Mitchell’s good deeds for the State of Maine. He is very well loved in this state. He had nothing to do with this “path to 9/11″ movie as he signed the letter that Bill Clinton’s Attorneys sent to ABC. Let’s not start any more crap than is necessary…
We’re polarized enough as it is. The word is out and let’s let it play itself.
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/ blog/ electioncentral/ 2006/ sep/ 07/ full_text_of_letter_from_bill_clinton_lawyer_to_abc_obtained
Here’s the full text of the letter:
September 1, 2006
Dear Bob,
As you know, ABC intends to air a two part miniseries, “The Path to 9/11,†which purports to document the events leading up to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. ABC claims that the show is based on the 9/11 Commission Report and, as Steve McPherson, President of ABC Entertainment, has said: “When you take on the responsibility of telling the story behind such an important event, it is absolutely critical that you get it right.â€
By ABC’s own standard, ABC has gotten it terribly wrong. The content of this drama is factually and incontrovertibly inaccurate and ABC has a duty to fully correct all errors or pull the drama entirely. It is unconscionable to mislead the American public about one of the most horrendous tragedies our country has ever known.
Despite several requests to view the miniseries, we have not been given the courtesy of seeing it. This is particularly troubling given the reputation of Cyrus Nowrasteh, the drama’s writer/producer. Mr. Nowrasteh has been criticized for inaccurately portraying historical events in the past. In response to previous criticism, he has even said, “I made a conscious effort not to contact any members of the Administration because I didn’t want them to stymie my efforts.†Indeed, while we have not been given the courtesy of a viewing, based upon reports from people who have seen the drama you plan to air, we understand that there are at least three significant factual errors:
– The drama leads viewers to believe that National Security Advisor Sandy Berger told the CIA that he would not authorize them to take a shot at bin Laden. This is complete fiction and the event portrayed never happened. First of all, the 9/11 Commission Report makes clear that CIA Director George Tenet had been directed by President Clinton and Mr. Berger to get bin Laden (p. 199 & 508-509). Secondly, Roger Cressy, National Security Council senior director for counterterrorism from 1999-2001, has said, on more than one occasion, “Mr. Clinton approved every request made of him by the CIA and the U.S. military involving using force against bin Laden and al-Qaeda.â€
In addition, ABC’s own counter-terrorism consultant, Richard Clarke, has said that contrary to the movie:
1) No US military or CIA personnel were on the ground in Afghanistan and saw bin Laden;
2) The head of the Northern Alliance, Masood, was nowhere near the alleged bin Laden camp and did not see bin Laden; and
3) CIA Director Tenet said that he could not recommend a strike on the camp because the information was single-sourced and there would be no way to know if bin Laden was in the target area by the time a cruise missile hit it.
As Clarke and others will corroborate, President Clinton did in fact approve of a standing plan to use Afghans who worked for the CIA to capture bin Laden. The CIA’s Afghan operatives were never able to carry out the operation and the CIA recommended against inserting Agency personnel to do it. The Department of Defense, when asked by President Clinton to examine the use of US troops to capture bin Laden, also recommended against that option.
– The drama claims that former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright refused to sanction a missile strike against bin Laden without first alerting the Pakistanis and notified them over the objections of the military. Again, this is false.
– Using newsreel footage of President Clinton, the drama insinuates that President Clinton was too pre-occupied with the impeachment and the Lewinsky matter to be engaged in pursuing bin Laden. This allegation is absurd and was directly refuted by ABC News consultant Richard Clarke in his book, Against All Enemies: “Clinton made clear that we were to give him our best national security advice without regard to his personal problems. ‘Do you recommend that we strike on the 20th? Fine. Do not give me political advice or personal advice about the timing. That’s my problem. Let me worry about that.’ If we thought this was the best time to hit the Afghan camps, he would order it and take the heat.â€
While these are three examples that we are aware of that are utterly baseless, they are clearly indicative of other errors in the substance and bent of the film. Indeed, the overall tone in the advertisements we’ve seen for this drama suggest that President Clinton was inattentive to the threat of terrorism or insufficiently intent upon eliminating the threat from bin Laden. Note that the 9/11 Commission Report says:
– We believe that both President Clinton and President Bush were genuinely concerned about the danger posed by al Qaeda.†(p. 349)
– “By May 1998 … clearly, President Clinton’s concern about terrorism had steadily risen.†(p. 102)
– “President Clinton was deeply concerned about bin Laden. He and his national security advisor, Samuel ‘Sandy’ Berger, ensured they had a special daily pipeline of reports feeding them the latest updates on bin Laden’s reported location.†(p. 175)
– “President Clinton spoke of terrorism in numerous public statements. In his August 5, 1996, remarks at George Washington University, he called terrorism ‘the enemy of our generation.’†(p. 500)
We challenge anyone to read the 9/11 Commission Report and find any basis for the false allegations noted above or the tenor of the drama, which suggests that the Clinton Administration was inattentive to the threat of a terrorist strike.
Frankly, the bias of the ABC drama is not surprising given the background and political leanings of its writer/producer, Mr. Nowrasteh, which have been well-documented on numerous conservative blogs and talk shows in his promotion of this film. Mr. Nowrasteh’s bias can be seen in an interview he gave to David Horowitz’s conservative magazine Frontpage, during which he said:
“The 9/11 report details the Clinton’s administration’s response – or lack of response – to Al Qaeda and how this emboldened Bin Laden to keep attacking American interests. The worst example is the response to the October, 2000 attack of the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen where 17 American sailors were killed. There simply was no response. Nothing.”
But as Sandy Berger told the 9/11 Commission: “[T]o go to war, a president needs to be able to say that his senior intelligence and law enforcement officers have concluded who is responsible.†And as the 9/11 Commission report repeatedly acknowledges, the US did not have clear evidence of bin Laden’s connection to the attack on the USS Cole before the end of the Clinton Administration (p. 192, 193, 195 & executive summary).
While ABC is promoting “The Path to 9/11†as a dramatization of historical fact, in truth it is a fictitious rewriting of history that will be misinterpreted by millions of Americans. Given your stated obligation to “get it right,†we urge you to do so by not airing this drama until the egregious factual errors are corrected, an endeavor we could easily assist you with given the opportunity to view the film.
Sincerely,
Bruce R. Lindsey

September 7th, 2006 at 6:33 pmThat’s it! Damn that freedom of speech! I hear the show doesn’t heap any praise on Bush but I guess that part is ok because it has to be true. FYI if you mass mail a form email the system can be set up to kick out the bulk of them and send them to JUNK mail which is what they are.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:34 pmexaminer, Unfortunately the last time copyright laws were re-written it was to protect Mickey Mouse from falling into public domain.
This is great though, I think we can actually make a difference here.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:35 pmThose of you who have access to Air America, take note. Democrats.com reports that Sam Seder will have an interesting interview:
“…at 7:45 PM Eastern time, Sam will interview national security expert Brent Budowsky, who has called for a boycott of ABC and Disney by all Americans outraged by the use of public airwaves to promote blatant falsehoods for political reasons.”

Comment by Wayne A. Schneider
It depends on what filtering software/appliance their server (or PC) uses. Typically some “spam” weight is given to “web email” addresses such as google mail, hotmail, etc - so if you use your actual ISP email address, you’ll have more luck. (You can also BCC the list, but some spam filters may add weight to that as well) Then there’s content - some filters will look for various keywords/combos either in the subject or body to add additional “weight” - these are added up for a final “score” for the email.
Hope that helps a bit.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:41 pmI really admire Senator Mitchell and feel bad he is on the “other side” I will let him know how much I respect him and I do but if they run the movie, I will have to boycott ABC.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:42 pmWe should all thank RRS for helping to insure that all of our e-mails get through. Everybody be sure and take his excellent advice and write individually to each e-mail address and change the subject line a little bit for each one.
Thanks for your support RRS!
September 7th, 2006 at 6:42 pmCorrection: I apologize, I misread the letter and took it as George Mitchel signing it. He is Disney’s Chairman of the Board.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:42 pmI still don’t believe he would approve of something like this. I’d like to know how he gave in to this… sorry again!

Thanks for your support RRS.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:45 pm#21 Mainah -
Mitchell did not sign that letter, he was cc’d on it. Bruce Lindsey and Doug Band are the only signatories. I don’t think he had anything to do with greenlighting thie project, but as chairman of Disney, he can certainly help get to the bottom of the matter.
Mitchell’s a good man - I trust him to do the right thing here.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:45 pmfinally! i’ve been waiting to hear something from the families … i wrote to several of the family organizations - have you? google it…
And the Families of September 11 issued the following statement:
As we mark five years since 9/11, we are inundated with the media’s portrayal of that tragic day. Television miniseries, Hollywood films, comic books and countless “documentaries” are dramatizing and sometimes distorting the events leading up to and happening on 9/11.
Families of September 11 believes the best way to honor those who were lost is to make sure that what happened to them never happens again. As such, we must understand exactly what took place, and not allow “entertainers” to promote misleading or incorrect information as fact to the public.
If we do not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. Any depiction of 9/11 that is not accurate and actual propagates myths, myths that may cause us future harm. In order to make our country safer and more secure, we owe it to those who were lost to acknowledge that
which took place, so that we can ensure it never happens again.

September 7th, 2006 at 6:47 pmThank you for organizing us to squash the inaccuracies and falsehoods in “The Path to 911″. Power to the People!
September 7th, 2006 at 6:48 pmThanks so much for printing George Mitchell’s email address. This is what I wrote to him tonight:
Dear Mr. Mitchell:
September 7th, 2006 at 6:49 pmI wish it were true that most people are able to distinguish between fact and fiction, documentary and docu-drama, in the made-for-TV depictions of “history” they see on their home screens. Unfortunately, they don’t and they can’t. If they see it, they believe it. 9/11 was probably the most horrendous event to occur in this country’s history, and it cannot be treated lightly. To play with the facts is unconscionable, but from what I’ve been reading, that is exactly what The Path to 9/11 does. I’m an educator, a mother, a grandmother … I’ve worked in the field of education all my adult life (I’m now 69). We owe it to our young people, and to our nation, to face the facts of 9/11 in all their grim reality; to discuss, to debate, to do whatever it takes to get the truth out. ABC, and its parent company Disney, are not contributing to the honest discourse, and I really don’t know why. This event is too important! ABC should withdraw the docu-drama until all sides have had an opportunity to review it and the fiction has been weeded out. As I understand the situation, conservatives have received advance copies of the docu-drama while liberals have been denied. Honestly, that makes the whole thing sound a lot more like a political “swift-boating” event than an effort to capture the reality of the historical moment.
During the weekend (although I harbor no illusions about all the 50K e-mails being read, I do wish to take my time to write a good one) I’ll send my e-mail to George Mitchell to explain why I’ll no longer make Disney-related purchases and visit the Parc Asterix instead of Eurodisney next time I’m in France.
Nevertheless, I think “g” makes a good point. Earlier this week I recall seeing a small piece on CNN International about a (Democratic?) security report with numerous low grades. Then there’s the wiretapping issues and Bush publically acknowledging the existance of secret prisoner camps. Not saying that doing something about the ABC/Disney attempts at revisionist history is bad, on the contrary - I applaud Think Progresses’ efforts, but I do hope that Think Progress will concentrate a bit more on the political goings-on.
September 7th, 2006 at 6:56 pmWhat if they showed F911 the third night?
September 7th, 2006 at 7:04 pmRetired Republican Soldier - still can’t shoot straight maggot? So what was your position on the Reagan biopic? Come on - full disclosure…maggot.
September 7th, 2006 at 7:04 pm[…] ABC’s miniseries “The Path to 9/11″ is a matter of controversy these past few days. Shane took a look at it over at LITW, and Kos is at it here, and here, and here and here. I’m more a Daily Show type. That’s where I get my news. I don’t much cotton to docudrama. Fake news is the way to go. […]
September 7th, 2006 at 7:10 pmFor what it’s worth, here’s what I wrote:
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
Numerous reports have indicated that The Path to 9/11 is a highly inaccurate portrayal of the events surrounding this national tragedy. From a layperson’s standpoint, it appears that ABC and Disney are potentially subject to numerous libel lawsuits just based on the limited release
and publicity this movie has already generated. I find it rather incredible that there could be any factual inaccuracies in a movie billed as being
based on the 9/11 Commission Report, with one of the Co-Chairpersons of the Commission acting as an advisor and executive producer.
It also appears that ABC has spent at least $30 million dollars on
this project, yet will sell no advertising during its airing, meaning that shareholders will receive a return of zero on a $30 million dollar investment. Surely there will be some who view this as a waste of
corporate assets.
I urge you to reconsider the release of this film until all factual inaccuracies have been corrected and take whatever other measures as
September 7th, 2006 at 7:51 pmmay be necessary to limit the losses to Disney, both in terms of money, and in reputation.
Ouch, this hurts…. too bad america will find out how it really happened. Raise the flag, raise the flag.. oh its the white one.
September 7th, 2006 at 7:54 pmpost f911, its bs anyway.
September 7th, 2006 at 7:56 pmI just received V for Vendetta from Netflix today — I think I will save it for Sunday or Monday night.
September 7th, 2006 at 8:10 pmgood choice, marie…
i heard randi talk about this today:
The new film based on the 9/11 Timeline, 9/11: Press for Truth
http://www.911pressfortruth.com/
see also: Thompson’s 9/11 Timeline
September 7th, 2006 at 8:22 pmMy email to Mr. Mitchell:
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
Why in the world would ABC and Disney make the conscious decision to produce a movie about the 9/11 tragedy, a real historic event, from a factually inaccurate and politically biased screenplay/script? Why would ABC and Disney make the conscious decision to produce a factually inaccurate and politically biased movie about a known historic event instead of making the conscious decision to produce a factually accurate and politically unbiased true depiction of the historical events that lead to the 9/11 tragedy?
Are ABC and Disney executives making the claim that despite the fact they could have easily produced a factually accurate and politically unbiased movie about the events leading to 9/11, they decided that producing a factually inaccurate and politically biased movie about 9/11 was consistent with ABC’s and Disney’s corporate mandates and responsibilities to it’s viewers?
Forgive me for being cyncial, but it is unbelievable that ABC and Disney would release a factually inaccurate and politically biased movie about the events leading up to the 9/11 tragedy for any reason other than to decieve its viewers with political propaganda.
By puposefully producing and airing a factually inaccurate and distorted version of a real historic event, ABC and Disney will destroy their credibility and reputation beyond their ability to repair it. I will never watch another ABC or Disney product for the remainder or my life, and I will strongly encourage my family and friends to boycott all ABC and Disney products.
Sincerely,
September 7th, 2006 at 8:42 pmKaty, I heard only part of Randi’s comments on the film - so Iappreciate you offering the title here. I will look for that too.
September 7th, 2006 at 8:43 pmHey all!
September 7th, 2006 at 8:54 pmJudd Legum is on Scarborough at this moment.
Maybe my email was too polite?
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
Thank you for this opportunity to address my concerns regarding the “docu-drama” currently scheduled to show on Septs’ 10 and11.
I would hope that you could use your substantial influence to stop the airing of this program.
I am not some crazed liberal bent on “blaming” the other side. I cannot lay blame anywhere, as I was not there on that fateful day.
What I do know from research into this project is that there are gross inaccuracies portrayed in this film.
Everyone from the players involved to some conservative pundits on MSNBC and CNN have come out and said that this film is too distorted from the truth and should not be aired.
A film cannot have a disclaimer AND be “based on the details of the 9/11 Report”. That is an incongruous statement.
I urge you to please exercise your position as Chairman of the Board of Disney to stop the airing of this particular “docu-drama”. The tragedy that is/was 9/11 is far too important and historical to be tainted in this way.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
September 7th, 2006 at 8:59 pmHere’s my letter. I sent it to all the names above at the same time, with cc’s to George Mitchell and all the Board Members. Amazingly, only a few of them bounced: two Disney addresses (minor players, NOT Iger), one senior Disney official who took this time to conveniently be “out of the office on vacation”, and most of the Board of Directors. George Mitchell got mine tho (hopefully - he’s a good man).
Dear Sirs, Madams, and Distinguished Individuals,
I write today as a severely concerned citizen regarding the upcoming anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks and the patent disregard for the truth that your company has undertaken in releasing this morbid fictionalization (”The Path to 9/11″) of the steps leading to that day’s events. I have attempted to keep an open mind regarding this issue, but you blatant pandering to right-wing conservative interests has compelled me to write to you.
I understand only too well that this “documentary-cum-dramatization” has not aired, and you are even taking the bold step as to insist to the public that last minute editing changes are taking place even as we speak. Unfortunately, clear evidence has surfaced in the mainstream media to the contrary: i.e. your providing of 900 or so screener copies, almost exclusively to right-leaning organizations, and the ascertation by one senior ABC official that portrayal of the “failure of the Clinton administration remains intact”. And this is the crux of the issue: the scandalous falsehoods that are reportedly contained in what was once billed a “documentary based on the 9/11 Commission Report”. The purpose of this letter is not to delve into these falsehoods, as they have been laid bare by almost every person with firsthand knowledge of what actually happened, including your own ABC counter-terrorism expert, as well as senior Clinton aides, former Secretary of State Madeline Alright, and a member of the 9/11 Commission Panel. I direct you to any one of their discussions (widely available on any web site NOT maintained by Rush Limbaugh) for specifics on the utter misrepresentation of the facts leading up to that horrible day.
My vow is simply this: if this fictionalization airs on ABC, as is, and without either severe edits to factual inaccuracies or a disclaimer on every frame about it’s inauthenticity, I will never intentionally purchase another Disney product or intentionally purchase another product or service advertised on a Disney network. This includes all of Disney’s holdings, which encompass but are not limited to ABC, Lifetime, A&E, ESPN, Pixar, Miramax, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Theme Parks, and all other assets held by or subsidized by Disney, NYSE symbol “DISâ€. I am 25, so I am a lifetime customer you’ll be losing. Disney owns a resort close where I live (Disney Hilton Head Island), which will also never garner any of my business. My immediate family, including my father, mother, and sister make the same promise.
I must admit, I’m only one voice, and only one vote. But, if you think about it, one is all it really takes. Exponentially, one tells another, and you’ve got two. Two each tell another, and you’ve got four. Four begets eight, and so on, and so on. Wars are started this way; elections are won and lost this way. This is a vow I do not take lightly, and I do not idly threaten it. But, I feel that your company dishonors our country’s fallen and those who fight still for us by releasing this stain on your reputation.
I include my name as one of the many voices added to the thrall of protest of this travesty. As a publicly traded company, one that leases the very right to broadcast on public airwaves from the government, I urge you to pull “The Path to 9/11″.
Respectfully,

cc: Disney Chairman George J. Mitchell
September 7th, 2006 at 9:04 pmWalt Disney Co. Board of Directors
I think Clyde lost his sarcasm momentarily.
Dear Senator Mitchell,
It is saddening to me that I find it necessary to address this subject with you. I have a particular concern with the film that your ABC subsidiary plans to present as fact. It has been proven to be nothing more than a slur on a past President and a crude attempt to make Bush appear blameless for his incompetence and bias the upcoming election.
I feel it is contradictory to your distinguished service as a Senator and is a slap in the face of the founder of the company you lead. There is no doubt in my mind, and probably not in yours, what the honored Mr. Disney would do under the same circumstances.
I ask you to retain your and Mr. Disney’s honor and distinction and direct ABC to cancel the film until such time as it is corrected to be factual or until there is no question that it is not politically motivated.
Thank you for your consideration.
September 7th, 2006 at 9:14 pmSenate Dems wrote a letter to Disney and subtly threatened their license.
I wasn’t aware that the Senate could do that.
Speaking of the Senate:
September 7th, 2006 at 9:17 pmGeorge Allen ripped off and plagiarized (word for word) a bill written by Durbin and Kennedy; Kennedy called him out on it on the Senate floor yesterday.
The neo-Stalinist left doesn’t even try to hide their absolute hatred of free speech anymore. Now Clinton’s thugs have threatened the president of Disney by bringing up a 1930s FCC license law in a letter written to him.
To these fascists of the left, 99% of people are incapable of independent, critical thought, and who are to be molded by whatever Cambodian-style re-education techniques some neo-marxist in academia and/or thug in the DNC can come up with.

Damn, this is inspiring!
Great job TP!!
Here’s som lousy ABC work of another sort:
Following form, the mainstream media also continued to downplay those procedures to which our Torturer-in-Chief referred, such as waterboarding, a mock execution in which a prisoner, bound and gagged with his feet raised above his head and a wet towel covering his nose and mouth, has water poured over his head to simulate drowning. A lovely torture method that dates back to the Spanish Inquisition. Yet ABC News, for instance, described this practice as simply “pouring water over victims to make them feel as if they were drowning.” Though still no picnic, this description hardly captures the barbarism of this act. For a mainstream media overly obsessed with details of criminal behavior that have no substantive impact on American lives, such as, say, a man accused of murdering a little girl who, in the end, winds up being innocent, it’s unconscionable how little interest it shows in this White House’s felonious decadence.

September 7th, 2006 at 11:37 pmI know you guys are having fun and all with the people power thing but have you ever noticed walking around, like, America - that the American people freakin’ love Disney.
You will probably win this one and good on y’all, but you’re going to get crushed with the blowback:
Censorship: check
Big Brother: check
Elitist: check
Mean to Mickey: check (and remember who’s mean to Porky and Piglet overseas, you’re going to get portrayed as separated at birth with those guys)
The public was looking forward to this movie, if it gets squashed by Dem Senatorial muscle, it will not RES. O. NATE. well.

September 8th, 2006 at 12:00 amI, too, thought about boycotting ABC programming, then thought better of it. Here’s what I sent to Eiger:At first I thought that I would stop watching all ABC programming, but then I realized there was a better way. Now I will watch as many ABC programs as possible and list their sponsors. Next, I will email all those friends, relatives, my university cohort, consumers, and all my current and past students who are in my address book and email them this idea, asking them to boycott all those sponsors. I also will ask them to email all the people in their own address books and ask them to do the same.
Next I will go on all the chat rooms, blogs and any other place to engage thousands of people and ask them to do the same. I’m sure I’ll move many of them to follow suit, these are all very liberal websites. I won’t do this on the conservative blogs, chatrooms, etc. because I already know their response. Also, shortly I will go to President Clinton’s website, as well as Madeline Albright’s and any others whom you have libeled in this program and suggest they sue ABC for slander and defamation of character.
Do yourself a favor and pull the show, please.
I’m going to send another to him adding the following: In addition, I intend to email the websites of each and every actor who appears in the film and tell them that I will not go to see any of their films. I will tell them the same information regarding all the people I can reach (friends, relatives, students bloggers chat room users, etc), to do likewise.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:37 amGeorge Mitchel must have sold out to the GOP, because why else would he allow Disney to show a GOP funded phony docudrama on 9/11?!
September 8th, 2006 at 1:35 amI can’t stress this enough: Steve Jobs is the single largest shareholder in Disney stock.
Apple has a MAJOR product launch coming out next week. Without a doubt the thing to do is apply pressure to Jobs. I’m sure he doesn’t want anything to distract from his product big roll out next week. That’s the spot.
Steve Jobs has the power to stop this. He just needs to hear his name connected with it on CNN once or twice and he’ll be all over it.
September 8th, 2006 at 3:08 amMarie,
“V For Vendetta” is an excellent movie, and Jane and I highly recommend it to everyone. I also think that ABC should show this movie instead of “Distorted Path to 9/11″.
“The people shouldn’t be afraid of their government; the government should be afraid of the people.” Sound advice in these times.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:42 amGreat idea to make ABC invisible while channel surfing. There is no entertainment show important enough for me to watch if that network supports these 9/11-related lies. As far as any ABC news show, they’ve just lost all credibility with me, so there’s no point. Too bad. I did like 20/20.
Don’t forget to also remove the ABC channel from TiVO, which I’ve just done on two TiVOs. (I wonder if TiVO collects stats regarding what channels are blocked.)
September 8th, 2006 at 8:46 amhow ’bout we start writing to Steve Jobs? he’s the controlling stakeholder of Disney.

September 8th, 2006 at 9:06 amYou poor dears, your beloved free speech can be so annoying at times.
We know what Bill did in the White House, we know that without Dick Morris the poor slob would have been lost, him and his fat ,unstable wife.
The world wide terrorist web grew and esatblished links and strength while he was getting BJ’s on company time. This reflects on all of you who support him to this day. Birds of a feather, you know!
You may wonder for the length of your attention span why a show bound to be critical of both parties and both presidents is receiving an uproar only from the liberal/left. Bush is certain to come in for criticism as well.
Will Senator Bill Frist send a threatening letter to Disney citing FCC regs? Will Bush and his aides scream bloody murder and make demands that it be edited or canceled?
To answer that, if you have the courage, is again to point out the differences between liberals and normal people, to point out the totalitarian strain just beneath the surface, the essential nastiness.
Go on, cry you babies, you “reality based” babies. And don’t forget the man you are defending, by accepting multiple foreign bribes, sold you down the river. What boobs!

September 8th, 2006 at 9:21 amediting scenes in the path to 9/11 is fine
but
the propaganda,
the naked propaganda
is in the TITLE of the film.
the connection of “path” and the Clinton administration will last in some minds no matter how many scenes abc changes.
the implication that the clinton administration is responsible for the sept 121, 2001 attack in new york is false. just false.
the film needs to be RENAMED or pulled.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:51 amIsn’t this just payback for that documentary that Michael Moore filmed that was a bunch of lies and out takes. I guess hiding documents in your pants and taking them out of the view of the 9/11 commission like Sandy Berger did is lawful in the liberal viewpoint. Reap what you sow people.
I thought that we had an open mind as a liberal, professors can teach that 9/11 was a Bush/Cheney plot but censorship is ok if it paints Clinton as the feeble minded skirt chaser, too worried about his next hummer that he couldn’t pull the trigger on killing Ben Laden when he had a chance.
Squeal some more …….complain…you are going to lose another election and have no one to blame but Slick Willy and Sandy and Madelaine.

>>Isn’t this just payback for that documentary that Michael Moore filmed that was a bunch of lies and out takes.
F9/11 was a distributed in private theatres, not broadcast on publicly owned airwaves.
>> professors can teach that 9/11 was a Bush/Cheney
Wrong dude - the professor you are talking about has that view, BUT HE DOES NOT TEACH IT in class or at the university.
>>censorship is ok if it paints Clinton as the feeble minded skirt chaser, too worried about his next hummer that he couldn’t pull the trigger on killing Ben Laden when he had a chance.
Wrong again - “Path to 9/11″ makes a statement (false) that it is based on the 9/11 commission report - however the 9/11 report reaches exactly the opposite conclusion. This is fact correction, not censorship.

September 8th, 2006 at 10:30 amTo all of the Disney Bigshots:
You all ought to be ashamed at least when Hollywood makes a movie that is fictional they come right out and say it is. Even if you now claim it is fictional you know good and well that a lot of people especially children are going to believe what Disney says.
I don’t think Hollywood would take an event as serious as 9/11 and use it for political purposes. Walt Disney would turn over in his grave knowing that his once honest and reputable company was so blatantly making up lies to serve a political purpose and then going to “educate†young children with devious and blatant disregard for the truth.
Can’t you find a way to get legitimate profits without taking this tragedy to enrich your friends in Congress? The President is a psychopath and habitual liar and you are joining him. You and your comrades are disgusting and I sincerely hope that you all suffer the consequences financially and personally.

September 8th, 2006 at 12:46 pmHere is the note I sent Senator Mitchell this morning:
Senator Mitchell:
Most Americans don’t read books or follow the byzantine machinations of our government and it’s relationship to the rest of the world. But I know that you do and I try to as well.
Therefore, I believe that you recognize that the airing of the ABC “Path to 9-11″ mini-series is a great disservice to the goal of an “informed citizenry” in this country.
Please use whatever influence you have to bring this reality home to those in a position to prevent this at ABC. I and others are doing what we can including calls to boycott not only ABC and the program advertisers, but to broaden that action to include Disney as well.
I feel that this is unfortunate since a boycott should be the last resort, but that is pretty much where we are today. Commercial media are in a position of great power, and to those who are given much, much is required.
It would do the country, and indeed the world, a lot more good if ABC were to use the occasion of the anniversary to follow up on the progress of Senate reports assessing our government’s failures leading up to 9-11. First these were delayed “until after the 2004 elections” — now “until after the 2006 elections”. Isn’t understanding our mistakes more important than avoiding embarrassing some politicians? Apparently most politicians don’t think so.
Thank you for your time.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:56 pmDear Mr. Mitchell,
I respectfully urge you to demand that ABC pull the upcoming mini-series “The Path to 9/11″.
From the press accounts I have read and the trailers and interviews I have seen, it appears that the mini-series “The Path to 9/11″ is riddled with gross factual errors and outright falsehoods that seem calculated to mislead the viewing public about the actions of the Clinton administration leading up to the tragedy of 9/11. Indeed, some of the events portrayed in the trailers I have seen are flatly and uncontrovertibly contradicted by the Report of the 9/11 Commission, on which the mini-series purports to be based. Moreover, these manufactured events cannot be argued to be dramatic devices that, while literally untrue, nevertheless convey a “deeper” truth about the events leading up to 9/11. In fact, just the opposite is the case. Scenes made up out of whole cloth such as the one in which Sandy Berger prevents a CIA team from “taking out” Osama Bin Laden are not just “technically” inaccurate; rather, they are so completely and thoroughly misleading about actual events as to constitute a fraud on the viewing public.
I want to emphasize just how strongly I feel about this issue. This is not a garden variety case of an ABC viewer having some objection to a particular piece of network programming. Rather, it is my deep conviction that in airing “The Path to 9/11″ in anything resembling its current format, ABC will have become the network equivalent of the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” — a nakedly partisan outfit using deception and falsehoods as tools to influence popular perceptions of politically-sensitive history. I am genuinely puzzled as to how Disney and ABC can still seriously be considering airing this mini-series, in light of what has by now been clearly and unambiguously established about it. Nevertheless, it appears that Disney and ABC are determined to air this program, and so let me say this:
I hereby pledge that, if “The Path to 9/11″ airs in anything resembling its current format, I will personally boycott Disney and ABC products and advertisers and will participate in a petition drive and email campaign to try to pursuade as many other people as possible to do the same.
Respectfully,
September 8th, 2006 at 1:00 pmHere’s my email to George Mitchell:
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
Please don’t let this supposed “documentary” air with the falsehoods, misinformation, and politics that should not be part of network television who holds the public’s trust. It is your duty as a network to be dispassionate about politics and to just provide the facts. If the reports are true that this program is short on facts and long on editorializing then your duty is to keep shopping for a 9/11 documentary that tells the truth and leaves politics aside. It is too important of an event in American history to play politics with it. The political parties politicize it enough the American people don’t need corporations and networks to do the same. Please do the right thing. For the sake of this country.
Michael Perkins
September 8th, 2006 at 1:07 pmHere’s what I just wrote:
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
I have great respect for you as an American statesman, and for your company, Disney, for producing quality entertainment. This is why I urge you not to allow your network to be used as an outlet for extreme right-wing propaganda. Over the years, many have come to trust Disney and ABC for producing quality programming. Now this good reputation is in jeopardy, and many of my friends are seriously discussing a full boycott of the company if this propaganda piece is allowed on the air Sunday and Monday nights.
Although it has been nearly five years since the September 11 attacks, this is still a sensitive issue for many individuals. This is still a painful issue for many individuals. This is an event which will forever be a part of the collective American memory. This is an event which should not be exploited by anyone for partisan gain.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I sincerely hope that you do the right thing, and pull this shameful propaganda piece, “The Path to 9/11″, off the air. The radical right should not be abusing the public airwaves for partisan gain.
Sincerely,
Andrew Davey

September 8th, 2006 at 2:51 pmYou are seriously all so pathetic. Not ONE of you has even seen this “docu-drama” yet, yet somehow you just KNOW that it is a propaganda piece! You know this because you have received your marching orders from the DNC. My lord, you are the same people that accuse republicans over and over of group think, look in the frigging mirror!! Every person that has previewed this “docu-drama” has said that it is unflattering to both the Clinton and Bush administrations, most likely a fair assesment, yet you only hear one side crying here, unbelievable! The problem with this is that all of you moon-bats would rather believe Sandy Berger, a convicted felon, who plead guilty to events specifically related to what he is saying didn’t happen in this “docu-drama”!! You have got to be kidding me! The 9/11 Report supports what the “docu-drama” shows, as do various players from the administration and the CIA. The lengths that the democrats will go to rewrite history so Clinton’s “legacy” is un-stained (pun intended) is just sickening. Fortunately for truth lovers everywhere, all the democrats have done is shown their true colors and made this “docu-drama” bigger than it EVER would have been had they just ignored it. Idiots.
September 8th, 2006 at 3:20 pmYou people really are nuts. As D-Hoggs said, have any of you seen this yet? Though you haven’t seen it personally, you’re all for the censorship of this docu-drama. Why not let it air, and if there’re points in it you don’t like, have Michael Moore do a counter-point to it?
Please… do any of you really believe that any politician is worried about accuracy in anything? I don’t care whether you’re right, left, center, communist, libertarian, a politician is a politician, and they’re always going to slant things to their advantage.
Grow up people

September 8th, 2006 at 7:52 pmAh, the opponents of falsification of history who themselves don’t know history beyond last week –
The more relevant film is not Finch’s “Network” but Andy Griffith in “Face in the Crowd”.
Randi doesn’t mention it probably because she doesn’t know of it. Unlike her (and those who parrot her choice), I wasn’t born yesterday.

September 8th, 2006 at 10:56 pmstations being kabc and kfi.
Is docu-drama-reality-entertainment the issue?
With Americas wound of 9/11 so historically fresh, what is disheartening so see is that the commemmeration of one of the greatest national tragedies in modern history is being done with neither factually historical nor commemmorative programming.
I find it difficult to imagine that the creative minds of Disney would find the American thirst for entertainment so unquenchable that one of our nations most tragic moments should be fodder for two days of
“docu-drama-reality-entertainment†regardless of it’s content.
A more respectful use of that time could be used, at the very least, to commemorate and honor those senselessly martyred to this atrocity and to offer aid in the soothing of the wounded spirit and the shattered innocence of the American soul.
That responsibility should be foremost in an organization that wields such an enormous power of influence and that was essentially born, fostered, and prospered to the level of empire by that very American
innocence.
If the Disney treasure chests are truly more than the fictional boxes of “The Pirates of the Caribbean†those that hold the keys just might consider a more thoughtfull recourse to their planned “entertainment”.
Pay the royalties to air “Flight 93″ or “World Trade Center” in those spots. Shelve the “docu-drama-reality-entertainment” format for factual
representations which regardless of critical acclaim were at least honorably and respectfully produced with the support and consult of the participants, survivors, families, and friends of real people that were the real victims of a very real horror.
If this does not resonate with the sense of personal responsibility with the powers that be at Disney they just might take a moment to reconsider the worthiness of taking up space on the Disney

Sir,
September 12th, 2006 at 10:07 pmAs much as it hurts me, as a sports fan, I will not be tuning in to ABC for any more of your sports programming. I guess that I will just have to get the results of the British Open, the Rose Bowl and the NBA finals from the newspaper and highlights on other stations. Nest year, when you begin televising the Nextel Cup races I will not be watching. In addition, not only will I not be back to any Disney attraction, I will try to persuade all that I know to not give you folks another dime. It is my sincere hope that the $40 million you got from the extreme right wing to air your smear flick will help keep your heads above water. If not, oh well.
In addition, none of my nieces and nephews will ever receive anything connected with ABC-Disney until there is a full apology for the slanderous and libelous piece of filth that ABC called “The Path to 9/11.”
