Not bad. I still can’t believe that ABC refused to supply people like President Clinton with a copy of the docudrama to view, but sent Rush Limpballs one. Amazingly stupid in their bias.

  3. dlcox1958 says:

Great-the signatories of the letter make it clear that this is a veiled threat of a lawsuit. terrific letter!

  4. TripMaster Monkey says:

Not bad, but it’s a bit of a softball.

Appealing to these peoples’ ethics is a waste of time. There should have been some sort of threat expressed should ABC persist in their determination to give air time to this pack of lies.

  5. Jimmy says:

I get it, Think Progress. The ABC mini-series is gonna suck. No one is going to watch it anyway. How about busting on the new Gitmo stuff instead? You guys are waaay off topic. This just doesn’t really matter.

    xxxjimmy

  6. Midnight Rambler says:

I agree this is a I’m putting you notice letter. SinceClinton hasn’t seen the POC yet he can’t threaten to sue. After it airs he can say I warned you there were factual errors and you still went ahead with it. ABC will ave no defense.

An diver was assisting Steve Erwin and could have speared the stingray however, a former head of the US fish & wildlife officer under direction former President Bill Clinton ordered the assisting diver to stand down.

  9. Joseph Piretti says:

I think it is clear now that ABC has got it wrong, but what I do not understand is the motive, or political reasons why they would continue to embrace and deflect opposition to this broadcast. Could it be that any legislation that could effect ABC or any other broadcast corporation would be more favorable coming out of a Republican administration then a Democratic one.

  10. D.Tree says:

ABC probably wants to aird the doc beacause of how much money they probably have tied up in it… they lose $$ big time if this thing doesn’t air… which is fine by me — would be a good learning lesson.

BTW, anyone hear if the drama shows the 2 CIA agents interrupting Bush’s vacation to tell him Bin Laden was preparing an attack? You know, the one where a clearly bothered Bush turns the agents away and tells them they “covered their butts?”

  11. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Would someone please tell me why this story (important in its own right) is being covered so extensively by TP, but Bush’s announcement yesterday about moving 14 terrorist suspects from his “secret CIA black-site prisons” to Guatanomo isn’t even mentioned? OR the fact that he is pressuring Congress to immediately pass HIS legislation regarding military tribunals…which STILL don’t satisfy the Supreme Court’s ruling on the previous tribunals? In fact, they are practically a mirror image.

Believe me, this administration loves it when they can get progressives to focus on an obvious and straw-man type of propaganda, thereby missing the forest for the trees. We are swiftly moving toward a totalitarian government, with one-party government and an increasingly overreaching Executive. This is not a partisan issue, but whether or not this country retains what MAKES it America. A President who is allowed to continually break the law and state that he is ABOVE the law, not accountable to Congress (the American people) or to the courts is a dictator….period.

  12. Tom Ballou says:

This issue is important because of the effects it could have on the upcoming elections, which in turn can make the difference between having any checks and balances and what we have been suffering under for the past six years.

I remember clearly the “tail wagging the dog” analogies that were made when Clinton ordered cruise missle attacks on Afganistan. For a very thorough summary of GOP hypocrysy, check out Greenwalds blog today (http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/).

  13. pgw says:

  14. D.Tree says:

this issue is also important because many of the kids who wil be reading the so-called study materials weren’t even old enough to know much about what happened 6 years ago… the long-term effect on our national strategy for international relations could be devastating…. not to mention the re-writing of history to favor one of the worst presidents in we’ve ever had: one George “I cannot tell the truth” W. Bush.

  15. Shannon Cunningham says:

I hope if they show this that Berger, Clarke, Albright, Clinton and a few others will actually sue them for slander.

What worse kind of slander is there, than to claim that an entire administration was just screwing around and didn’t care about terrorism – and then to blame 9/11 on them?

  16. Yachts and Lattes says:

I’m so glad to hear Clinton fighting back. IANAL but it definitely seems like they’d have a libel case if ABC went through with it.

We can’t let them swiftboat the past.

  17. gopisalaughintstock says:

Give it to ‘em, Willie! Only wish you were President today!!
Can’t imagine how much better this country would be right now. You were one of the “greatest” in my lifetime. How prosperous we once were…..sob…sob…

  18. gopisalaughintstock says:

I’d expect to learn of a lawsuit within the next 24 hours against the writer/producer, ABC and the House of Mouse. Go for it – you’ll definitely win

  19. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

OK, maybe there can be some benefit to ABC airing this – if Clinton et al bring a lawsuit afterward. This would be front page until the end of the year, if not beyond. Maybe we could actually find some truth about 9-11 and the run up to the war in Iraq. Clinton vs. BushII = get ready to rumble!

  20. ann says:

#11 – ABC will be running this mockumentary without commercials – they won’t make any money on this one. Basically, it’s a big campaign donation to the RNC from ABC – unclear on the legalities regarding this as a donation, though.

  21. gopisalaughintstock says:

If it’s actually a “campaign offering” then the FEC needs to be involved.
(Federal Election Commission) They have pretty strict guidelines for this type of thing.

Yes, I’m beginning to think that this will backfire in the face of the GOP. When Clinton et al brings suit, then the truth will be headline news.

What will surely follow then is an outcry from the american people to get to the “real” story about the run up to 9/11 and what actually did occur….timelines (the GOP will be embarrassed about)….etc. ABC needs to be careful what it is asking for here!

Their viewership will tank, Disney’s attendance will drop and their respective “political agendas” will be front page news. I’m really beginning to see the “silver lining” in this cloud of doom for ABC & the GOP. Yep, looking better every moment….

  22. Jebus loves me says:

    Breaking News:

Disney has just been aquired by Rupert Murdoch. ABC will now be renamed FOX2

All fags, lezbos, non-whites, pinko commies, and evil doers are banned forever from Disney Land.

  23. Marcia Edmans says:

I hope you get sued all over the place for this piece of crap you’re airing. More republicans trying to blame the dems for their own errors. So far, from what I’ve heard, its full of lies. You didn’t even bother to get the facts on everything. You know easily swayed republicans will take this all as fact–hook, line and sinker. This is an abomination.

Without even seeing the movie, you’ve slandered Clinton, Clarke and Albright. There’s no telling how many other dems you’ve defamed just to make a movie favorable to the Republicans. Shame on you. I hope you don’t get away with this. You’re evil people, full of lies.

I was a Democrat until Bush took office. Now that I’m seeing what the
Republicans will perpetrate on the American public, I’m believing I’ll stay a Democrat and fight you all the way.

I’m boycotting all of your interests. Channel 8, Disney, and all your sponsors. I have no use for people who spread lies to the whole country and pretend it’s just a so-called *docudrama*.

    Shame on you.

    Then stop whining.

  25. gopisalaughintstock says:

who’s whining, Ben…I’m gloating! So much lost in translation…..ah….the beauty of the written word.

A centurion as Jesus’ crucifixion could have removed him from the cross and freed him, but under DoJ-supported orders from President George Bush he was tortured and executed as an enemy combatant.

  27. Ben says:

Clearly this then is not based on solid “fact”. Do we want fiction parading as fact sold to our children, then? Scholastic needs to know that we will have none of this brainwashing and rewriting of history.

ah….the beauty of the written word.

    You’re too easy.

  28. Ken in DC says:

I just sent the following message to the GM at ABC7 in Washington DC. Make sure you do your part!

    ——————

As a long-time viewer of ABC 7 (nearly 20 years), I need to take a moment to express concern over the up-coming “docu-dram” – the Path to 9/11.

In doing research on the internet, it appears that there are numerous factual errors portrayed in the film. Seeing that the film is being partially marketed to high school teachers as an “education opportunity”, I believe that it is extremely important for the film to accurately portray the events.

It also does not escape me that this film is being released in the run-up to the mid-term elections, and there might be a political bias involved in the timing.

Due to the importance of the subject matter, I feel very strongly about the need for the film to portray the events factually. If the film is shown with the kind of fictional spin that the preview has indicated, I promise to boycott your channel, and every parent and subsidiary company of ABC.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
