“President Bush’s support proved insufficient to push a bill authorizing his warrantless wiretapping program through the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.” The bill stalled after Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) “spoke against the bill for about a quarter of the panel’s two-hour meeting and offered four amendments.”
Stalled is a start. “Killed” is what we need. Save the Constitution!
September 8th, 2006 at 10:59 am#1 I agree, all this junk need’s to be stopped….Blessings..Peace
September 8th, 2006 at 11:08 amRuss Feingold sums it up well. From the article:
Feingold is being constructive by proposing amendments to the bill to make it less onerous…but predictably, the Repubs call it ‘obstructionism’. Sen. Arlen Specter sez:
I had no idea that you could ‘filibuster’ in so many imaginative ways, Arlen. According to you, anything that departs from rubber stamping a bill is ‘filibustering’ and ‘obstructionism’. God forbid the legislative branch actually does its job…
September 8th, 2006 at 11:11 amMay I have some checks and balances please?
September 8th, 2006 at 11:15 amFeingold = Hero
September 8th, 2006 at 11:18 amWay to go Russ.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:22 amFrom dailykos, yesterday:
Here is what ticks me off so much.
He admitted that he knows they are breaking the law.
Specter, when you took the oath of office, you swore to protect the Constitution!!!!, not a bunch of Crooks. They are commiting not only midemeanors, but Felonies. It is YOUR job Spector, to investigate and foreward charges if wrongdoing is found to the house of representatives. Your job not only as chairman of the judicial committie, but as a US Senator that swore to the oath of office.
Enforce the Law, Enforce and protect the Constitution, Oathbreaker!!

September 8th, 2006 at 11:25 amSorry about the double post, there was like a 3 minute delay and thought my first post got lost somehow =P
September 8th, 2006 at 11:28 am#1 – Stalled is a start. “Killed†is what we need. Save the Constitution!
Indeed!
Feingold – 2008!
Guantanamo Bay for the Bush Cabal!!!
September 8th, 2006 at 11:28 amWayne,
That is such a great point that I’d like to copy it and email it to Sen. Specter, and the other members of the Judiciary.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:30 am(I’ll omit your name, of course. No need for both of us to be thrown in Gitmo!)
I do love that Feingold.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:34 amThe only reason Bush wants to do an end-around FISA is because FISA would leave a paper trail and accountability. It is plainly obvious that that is the very thing Bush is trying to avoid. FISA grants about 99% of the requests it recieves. Looks like our Fuehrer doesn’t want any constraints on his fishing expeditions. After all, how are you going to maintain party loyalty without a little blackmail? And how can you keep the Democrats down without “getting the goods” on them?
September 8th, 2006 at 11:43 am#11
Someone needs to say it to him, like all of the people in his home state.
Oathbreaker is what he is. Every rubberstamp representative in the house and senate, that have let this travesty go one, while the PNAC group has been raping the US , the Constitution, but other countries as well, in there well documented but ignored by the MSM plans for a Pax Americana world ruling empire.
Like pinky and the brain, they want to rule the world, and Bush is definately not the Brain.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:45 amgot to watch my typing, I make too many typos when I get riled up LOL
September 8th, 2006 at 11:55 amSo how is it that Specter is considered such a “liberal” in republican circles?
The only thing I see him being liberal with is the slathering of K-Y over his hindquarters before getting in bed with bushco.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:56 amBAD visual, kindness!
eeeeeeewwwwwwwwww
September 8th, 2006 at 11:59 amour congress is poised to pass the Amurrkkan version of The Enabling Act.
Amurrikkans everywhere soon will understand first hand how it happened in Germany
September 8th, 2006 at 12:12 pmWayne – Right on target, my friend.
Will someone explain to me why my kids have to swear allegiance to the flag every damn day when these guys can disregard their oaths so easily?
September 8th, 2006 at 12:14 pmArlan, time to change your colostomy bag. When you do, say hello to Rick Santorum. You’re both bags of shit & have no right to be breaking your oath of office.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:20 pmI’m sure we have many good people in Penn., but you two really bite the bag. Maybe Rick will go down like Scooter in Nov., but Arlan, you should really just curl up & go to sleep.
Your pathetic attempts at making people think you’re actually trying to change the Bush regime’s illegal actions have worn thin with Americans. You’ve cried Wolf too may times, Arlan. Go out to pasture & hang with the cows. Then you can still pretend you’re a Bull. You’re a Bull, allright. BULLHSIT.
Way to go Senator Feingold! One of the few who has the integrity to do what is right and courage to stand up to those in power.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:30 pm#7/8 Wayne,
Excellent post, Wayne. (Excellent first name, too!) :)
trueblue,
You can submit it under my name if you want. I’m not afraid, and I’ll stand behind everything he said. :)
September 8th, 2006 at 2:11 pmFeingold is my hero. I met him in Los Angeles two weeks ago at a party. We briefly discussed the NSA spying issue. Not in any real depth as it was a cocktail party and too loud and crowded for any substantive talk. But I was even more impressed with him after our encounter.
And 7/8 Wayne, I was thinking the very same thing as I read your post — send it via fax to Spector. (emails are too easy and letters get delayed for examination). We need to give this issue the same passion as the blogosphere has given the ABC 9/11 mini-series. This week’s effort on the part of Think Progress, Aravosis, Kos, FDL etc has really demonstrated the power of the blogs to get a story out to the major media and politicians and have an effect.

September 8th, 2006 at 2:34 pm“.. Spector’s bill … negotiated with this administration…”
“…this administration…” is correctly translated as Cheney and his cabal. And Spector doesn’t rat’s ass because he will probably retire. If he doesn’t voluntarily retire, then the voters of PA will retire him.
Good for Feingold. The Repubs are afraid, they are very afraid.
Found the below posting at C&L. It would make a great bumper sticker. Anyone out there have a bumper sticker making machine?
New Democratic bumper sticker:
The GOP made me afraid
September 8th, 2006 at 4:43 pmto vote for them!
KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA | Homepage | 09.08.06 – 11:34 am | #
As I recall, Congress cannot make a law that overrules the Constitution. Arlen Specter cannot outlaw the 4th Amendment! Bush is a criminal and no amount of legislative sleight of hand will change that.
September 8th, 2006 at 5:54 pmSo now wiretapping can only occur in stalls, well like in bathrooms, farms, voting booths. Stay away from stalls.
September 8th, 2006 at 6:11 pmYou tell em Russ.
September 8th, 2006 at 6:27 pmThe other New GOP bumper stickers;
Fat Cats and Fascism R us!
Or
Need a Raise? We got ours, screw yours!
Or
Hitler was Right and so are We!

September 8th, 2006 at 6:36 pmI am the Executive Decider!
I am the King Damnit, Cheney says so!
WV voice……
very true.
No matter what Congress does short of State ratified Constitutional Amendments, the wiretapping, extraordinary rendition, “special” justice systems for enemy combatants are not Constitutional.
Article II does not apply. We have a secret (OK not very secret for anyone who is paying attention) dictatorial coup on our hands…..and language that projects the dictatorships own faults (insinuating that liberals or Democrats are fascists – no, they’re not in power).
When the Democrats wind this fall, there need to be some corrections on foreign policy, separation of powers….and/or jail time for the Emperor-wanna-be.
September 8th, 2006 at 7:13 pmThank you Mr. Feingold. Now here, ladies and gentleman, is how a true Senator should serve his country. Russ is acting for the good of the country and for those who live here. Senator Spector is a good example of someone who is NOT doing his job to protect the people … he is protecting only this administration.
This is WHY Russ stalled this rotten sticken bill:
September 8th, 2006 at 9:15 pmRight now, this administration is spying on anyone they choose (with no oversight) without a warrant from the FISA court. Anyone meaning political rivals, peace groups, or anyone else they care to. They have to get a warrant from the FISA court to tap phones – this is the law. They are breaking the law by refusing to get a warrant. Russ, just like everyone else would like to stop terrorists from their dastardly deeds, and tap those who are suspect in order to stop them. So why, if they are only tapping terrorists calls, do they refuse to get a warrant? What do they have to hide?
I feel sorry for all of you who don’t have Russ Feingold as a Senator. It is truly an honor to vote for him every six years.
