Former Vice President Al Gore today released a statement criticizing The Path to 9/11 for presenting numerous historical inaccuracies. The statement is below:
By all accounts, “The Path to 9/11″ is riddled with inaccuracies and contains material that directly contradicts the factual findings of the 9/11 Commission. I am deeply concerned that ABC is considering going forward with their plans to broadcast this so-called docudrama. The lessons from the events leading up to that tragedy are too important to trivialize, and it would be fundamentally irresponsible to air such distortions.
go al!
September 8th, 2006 at 8:15 pmGO AL!!!
September 8th, 2006 at 8:16 pmI know it's not saying much that Gore is grabbing facetime on a hotbutton issue. BUT.
Take a look at how many politicos have made it a point in the past week to step up and say something about this issue that bloggers essentially brought to the table.
And remember this next time you think 'but I'm just one person' or 'no one is paying attention to blogs'. Just. Not. True.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:19 pmI hope ABC and Disney fall hard on their ass! Power to people will bring them down. BOYCOTT...
September 8th, 2006 at 8:20 pmYou tell 'em Al!

September 8th, 2006 at 8:31 pmwell, sharon, you tried... even asked "pretty please"...
ah well... there's more than one blog...
i'm off on an errand and want to get back in time for maher...
September 8th, 2006 at 8:39 pmwill check in on you's soon!
Yeah, I wondered when he would weigh in. He was very involved in the Clinton adminstratrion's quest for bin Laden. Richard Clarke described a scene in his book where Clinton was worried about whether it was legal to kill bin Laden. Gore thought it probably was illegal, but " the guy's a terrorist - let's get him!"
Sigh... I want President Gore..
September 8th, 2006 at 8:43 pmIs there anyone who is actually defending the use of fictionalized material in this program because they think we should revise history when we want to make the opposition party look bad? They might want to rethink that because Bush is great fodder - and you don't even have to make up the shit he says and does.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:43 pmI'm going to be a bit contrarian here and say that I don't think anyone should DEMAND that ABC pull this or any other programming. If it was stupid and wrong for the right-wing nuts to do it with the Reagan mini-series, then I don't see how it's right in this case (even conceding that the distortions here are more egregious and more recent).
Yes, point out the mistakes and the lies and the distortions. Everyone does that about every so-called "based on a true story" movie that comes out.
But demanding that it not air makes us no better than them. It's enough to make people aware of the distortions, to refrain from watching and hoping everyone else does the same, and hoping that ABC loses their shirts on this so they're not encouraged to do it again.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:45 pmGore ought to be pissed!
Back in the 2000 race, Al Gore's platform identified terrorism as the number one security threat, saying “Whether terrorism is ... inspired by a single fanatic individual, such as Osama bin Laden ... We must ... target terrorist finances, break up support cells, and disrupt training....â€
Whereas Bush ignored outgoing administration officials, his own counter-terrorism chief and a CIA briefing “Bin Laden determined to attack USâ€. Republicans ignored the evidence against Iraq’s WMD and invented a tie to terrorism.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:53 pm#3
I agree, Ronin. Everyone needs to realize that blogs have played the major role in bringing attention to serious issues. The MSM is always a step behind. When the blogs start screaming it wakes everyone up. Blogs unite and give the power back to the people.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:56 pmBeeblebrox
September 8th, 2006 at 8:57 pmYou are wrong. This is propaganda and has not met responsible factual standards..when ABC said it had. Money and power do not have the right to rewrite history and pass it off as fact. Only when they were pushed to the wall did ABC begin saying it was not really a documentary. ABC should not be serving the powers that be. You do a lot of "hoping" ( referring to your post) We all need to be awake in this country and hold the media accountable to the truth. It's easy. Journalism in general is sick in this country. You don't sit around and hope ....you hold people accountable
Beeblebrox, ABC-Disney doesn't care if they loose money on this - it's very obviously a ploy by some in the corporation to throw a free five-hour infomercial to the Republicans a few weeks before the election.
I agree with you - I think they should air it. Then there should be an investigation on whether this was a violation of campaign finance laws - to me, it looks like some backroom dealing between some members of the ABC-Disney management and individuals directly connected with the Republican party.
In the past, ABC broadcast some fine tv movies and miniseries that were fictional stories that put national events into a personal context - "Roots" and "An Early Frost" are good examples. This is just an inaccurate docudrama perpetuating the views of its ultra right wing creators. It should be noted that ABC-Disney tried its best to hide the origin of the film - unlike other tv movies and miniseries they broadcast, ABC Productions is not listed as a co-producer and the production company was specifically formed to create this product. The excellent article at the HuffingtonPost, outlining the involvement of David Horowitz's group in this mess.
Some good investigative digging needs to go on here - ABC-Disney's not being upfront about why and how this miniseries came about and the individuals involved.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:58 pmHi Faiz,
Love what you've done with the whole ABC 9/11 movie thing. You've done a real service to the nation by exposing that farce.
I'm wondering....is there anything else happening on EARTH!?
That was a rhetorical question. Of course, you knew that. There is some serious stuff going on in GWB Land, and it's being passed up because Think Progress is too busy kicking the shit out of this dead horse.
Just sayin'
September 8th, 2006 at 9:00 pm"And furthermore, if that dipshit numnuts Bush hadn't been selected by a corrupt Supreme Court in 2000, we would have never had these attacks," Gore said.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:03 pmIt's just like the republicans to push this film so close to the election period. If this film is shown why not let the American people see Michael Moores 9-11 video? Are the republicans afraid to show this and let the Amarican people judge for themselves?
September 8th, 2006 at 9:03 pm>But demanding that it not air makes us no better than them. It’s enough to make people aware of the distortions, to refrain from watching and hoping everyone else does the same, and hoping that ABC loses their shirts on this so they’re not encouraged to do it again
So you think that free corporate speech should trump the people's right to regulate the airwaves?
That the enormous power of being able to send out lies can be answered with "reasoned argument" pointing out distortions?
Where have you been for the last six years?
And why should we cede our rights to free speech to demand that ABC/Disney act responsibly?
Or do you think that free speech should be only granted to those who bought and pay for it?
September 8th, 2006 at 9:04 pmThe 5 hour mini-series produced by the ABC entertainment dept. which is a NETWORK station. The film costs over $40 million to produce and will be shown without commercials?!
Something smells fishy here!
September 8th, 2006 at 9:07 pm#18....well said Nanorich
September 8th, 2006 at 9:11 pmLet's hope that this reichwing fakeurama will backfire on ABC in the most severe way possible.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:12 pmBosch Tools advertises on ABC during Desperate Housewives.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:13 pmIs anyone looking into the possibility that ABC was PAID to present this sham? This is a theory, but some journalist out might actually investigate. I'd like to remind all who read this that the administration has been caught paying for propaganda. Why would the network put out that kind of money, not sell advertising, and hope nobody notices? Just a question.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:14 pmHey Zooey,
Very good rhetorical question.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:16 pmSo mate,THAT'S why they call it a Stingray;crickey!
September 8th, 2006 at 9:17 pm"The fact that the writer/producer of the piece is a well known conservative raises additional concerns and questions," said Howard Dean. "The American people deserve to know who funded this $40 million dollar slanderous propaganda."
"Use of the public airwaves is a privilege conferred upon broadcasters in the public interest," Dean continued. "It comes with a responsibility to the American people and a responsibility to the truth."
PS - Now that you see how Disney is trying to turn your children into misinformed dolts, who would support those who endanger them, perhaps you'll consider going somewhere more creative than Disneyland on your next vacation.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:23 pmWe should boycot this movie so they lose ratings, that is what they are looking for so let's not give it to them! Do not watch it!

Comment by For Truth
Hi Truth,
I've been reading through the comments, and I must say you certainly are on fire today. Not literally, of course. In that case, I would advise you to "stop, drop, and roll."
I see I'm still having to type my Zs in the boxes in order to get the little drop down thing, and sign in. I guess I'm spoiled, because that annoys me.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:32 pm"And why should we cede our rights to free speech to demand that ABC/Disney act responsibly?"
No one's free speech is at issue here. They have the right to air it. You have the right to protest it. Someone else has the right to tell you to shut up. And someone has the right to tell them to shut up. And along the way, everyone will bitch and moan about how the person telling them to shut up is trying to take away their rights.
But let's say ABC was airing a fictional film about how Bush personally masterminded the 9/11 attacks. Would every wingnut in the world demand they cancel the show? Of course. Should they get their way? I'm not inclined to think so. Yes, they're hiding behind the "dramatization" excuse, but at what point do we draw the line with how far filmmakers can go with fictional portrayals of history?
Where I think there is absolute legitimate criticism is ABC's claim that this is based on the facts and the director's claim that it is the "unvarnished truth." Obviously that's a lie. And a disclaimer about the fictionalization is certainly called for.
But I get tired of this back and forth demanding that anything depicting politics be TAKEN OFF THE AIR. Like when the right-wing douches refused to air Nightline's show about the dead soldiers.
That said, I DO hope this backfires and ABC is scorched in the ratings because of it.
September 8th, 2006 at 9:35 pmI think we should contact the local ABC affiliates and sponsors who advertise. The only thing they understand is their pocketbooks. They think the controversy will increase viewers, but it will do exactly the oposite with all the boycotts. If anyone has better contacts please post or if you want to add to these. Emails addresses would be better, but I did not know how to get them. Two ABC advertisers are:

[Chapter I]
One day his mother said
When Pierre climbed out of bed
-Good morning, darling boy, you are my only joy
Pierre said-I don't care!
-What would you like to eat?
-I don't care!
-Some lovely cream of wheat?
-I don't care!
-Don't sit backwards in your chair
-I don't care!
-Or pour syrup on your hair
-I don't care!
-You are acting like a clown
-I don't care!
-And we have to go to town

-Would you rather stay right here?
-I don't care!
So his mother left him there

September 8th, 2006 at 9:51 pmI want a factually accurate and unbiased historical accounting of the events leading up to 9/11 that correctly reflects the facts and truth rather than fiction and falsehoods. I can't help but wonder why someone would write a movie about a genuine national tragedy and "choose" to include inaccurate and untruthful scenes and release it immediately prior to mid-term elections, when they could have just as easily "chosen" to get everything right and release it after the mid-term elections.
I can't help but wonder why ABC/Disney would advertise the movie was based on the 9/11 Commission Report, when there are scenes in the movie involving real people that are totally fictitious and contradicted by reported facts and what's in the 9/11 Commission Report.
If this movie was intended to be a work of fiction, why use the names of the real people involved instead of pseudonyms? Why write a movie with real people in it depicting real historic events and claim it is based on a real government report, and then include false and misleading scenes that didn't happen, are historically inaccurate and are contrary to reported facts and the government report? Why would ABC/Disney make a fictitious movie about a recent historical event and not feel a responsibility to get it right? It is unbelievable that this movie is not intended to effectively denigrate the Clinton administration and flatter the Bush administration immediately preceding mid-term elections. By that I mean, the movie was purposely created for purely political rather than theatrical purposes. It's a propaganda piece. I'm sorry. I don't believe calling for accuracy and truth consistent with reality, facts and the findings of 9/11 Commission Report is in any way Fascist.
The significance of the 9/11 attack on America inherently mandates that it's depiction be wholly truthful, wholly accurate and wholly non-partisan. Presenting a combination of fact and fiction that can only lead to a "confusion" between fact and fiction, is irresponsible at best and an act of treachery at worst.
"Fascism is a radical political ideology that combines elements of corporatism, authoritarianism, nationalism, militarism, anti-anarchism, anti-communism and anti-liberalism."
"Propaganda is a specific type of message presentation directly aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of people, rather than impartially providing information. An appeal to one's emotions is, perhaps, the more obvious propaganda method, but there are varied other more subtle and insidious forms."
September 8th, 2006 at 9:51 pm>No one’s free speech is at issue here
Nope you are telling people to shut up and let ABC air their lies...
and only complain after the damage is done, and nobody is listening.
It has been a common Republican talking point repeated today all over the web.

An excellent philosophy in my humble opinion.
September 8th, 2006 at 10:09 pmhmmm, let's see...
Covertly funded to the tune of 40 million dollars by a recently discovered far right-wing operation – operating in Hollywood (allegedly for cover)
Secretly sent advanced copies to Rush Limbaugh and other far right-wing operatives who just so happen to stridently advance the exact same inaccurate views as portrayed in the film.
Denied the parties actually depicted in film advanced copies of the film, including the former President of the United States.
Condemned as, defamatory, slanderous, improvised, contrived, and grossly inaccurate by most, if not all experts involved in the actual supervision of the production, political pundits on both sides of the aisle - not to mention the former government officials who were actually depicted in the film and even actors themselves.
Condemned by all of one of the Commissioners of the 9/11 Commission itself, the purported and advertised basis of the legitimacy film. (the one exception, Tom Kean gave a changing opinion of his views of the film –and did not openly deny the inaccuracies, but instead pointed out that Bill Clinton, the primary target of the slanderous inaccuracies was currently campaigning for the opponent of his son in an upcoming New Jersey mid-term Congressional election.)
Several FBI experts terminated their employment on the project either immediately after reading the grossly inaccurate script – or shortly after they were told their recommendations for major script changes in order to correct the gross inaccuracies were not going to occur.
Planned to be aired on the anniversary of the event itself, September 11th, a date with serious emotional ties to the vast majority of the people of the United States of America, when thousands of innocent (Democratic, Republican, Independent and Apolitical) men, women and children were brutally murdered in one of the most serious and traumatizing events in American history.
Planned to be aired on Public Airways a month before a major mid-term Congressional Election – and directly misrepresenting serious issues currently being discussed in the political discourse pertaining to such elections.
Free copies planned to be distributed en masse to our Educational System, particularly at the High School Level, where political orientation is still at an impressionable stage.
Emails disclosed from officials involved in the project to far right-wing pundits stating that the (implied deliberate) slanderous inaccuracies were still “in tact†and all was still going as planned.
An actual “news†article on ABC NEWS labeling all who expressed their disagreement, distress or anger with the gross inaccuracies in, and controversial origins of the film as “Clintonistasâ€, a slang term also frequently used by the aforementioned far right-wing political pundits.
Repeated fraudulent misrepresentations and advertisements of the film as being based on the 9/11 commission - even AFTER the 9/11 Commission itself had publicly condemned the film as a grossly inaccurate representation of their bi-partisan findings.
....did I miss anything?

September 8th, 2006 at 10:14 pmfor the last three weeks i have been thinking that what howard dean needs to do is call together the emotional leaders of the democratic party and
ask them to speak IN A UNITED WAY on the many bush domestic and foreign policy blunders over the last six years.
that has not happened.
but
hot damn!
walt disney corp has managed to get some of the democratic leadership of the democratic party talking publicly -
clinton, gore, kerry, -- maybe john edwards will weigh in.
but where are you, ted kennedy?
and we haven't we heard from joe "basset hound" lieberman yet; i know he cares, too ( doesn't he?).
we have not had this kind of "coordination" in the last six years.
now
if only howard dean could get these emotional leaders of the democratic party to continue on til november-
talking about universal health care, tax and income disparity, being lied into an iraq invasion and occupation, exploitation of our security needs for political advantage, etc.
that might actually get citizens concerned and energized.

September 8th, 2006 at 10:49 pmWhether or not the film is aired, whether or not it is factual or a fiction, whether or not it was paid for by one group or another is really not significant now. The audience will be significantly reduced, especially on Monday Night (two football games) and maybe Sunday if there is a night game but even those that watch will be watching to critique the film, on one side or another. The debate will continue, as well it should, but it will be directed at the Film-Flam itself and not the truthfulness of the presentation. That has long since been established as lies and propaganda. The important and significant fall out of this episode has been the response of the detractors. Let ABC air the damn thing; it is their time and money. They don't have sponsors because the sponsors now know that they may have erred in backing Bushco. We, the concerned citizens of this Country, in numbers that clearly establish the credibility of the Blogs and the new method of mass communication, has come of age. We are now a faction with influence, I suspect, and hope, both Right and Left, that has shown that facts have no expiration date and we will not let History be rewritten for political gain. After all is said and done the fact remains: "It was a tough fight, Ma, but we won." (Momentarily at least.)Congratulations all!
Stupid is Forever. Long live ABC!
September 8th, 2006 at 10:51 pmone must wonder why the party leaders that are so STRONG on terrorism and national security would let a network show such a distrored "MOVIE?" surely they do not need help from fictional sorces. Why aren't Progressive (ie: liberal ) leaders asking this question???

September 8th, 2006 at 11:08 pmI disagree with those that say it's ABC's right to air this. It's the same argument that spammers have the right to free speech to spam us.
Freedom of speech and free market theory does not negate social responsibility. This is a dangerous piece of misrepresentation to show the American people. Unfortunately 50% of Americans still believe Iraq had WMDs, despite all evidence to the contrary. In other words, misinformation when repeated enough becomes "truth". The republicans know this, and so does ABC and those who sponsored the $40 million to air this piece of political fiction. To show this would be damaging and irresponsible.
We need to take back America - it belongs to the people, not runaway corporate profit mongers who would sell out the American people for higher corporate returns.

September 8th, 2006 at 11:42 pmZooey I didn't mean to impose any pressure. You told me your age before. Believe me I prefer it.
September 8th, 2006 at 11:43 pmZooey my idea of beautiful can be a variety of different things.

September 9th, 2006 at 12:08 amHeard you the first time, bones.
I believe the larger point is that Osama bin Laden has succeeded in his attack on the US beyond his wildest dreams. We are destroying ourselves from within. OBL never has to lift another finger...
September 9th, 2006 at 12:16 amBack at ya, sweet, funny, young lady....Say Hi to true for me..I miss her..There are several gone tonight. Juan, Mad, Unbelievable and Coffins has only posted once that I remember....Oh well I hope they are just out having a fun night......Blessings

September 9th, 2006 at 12:21 amwhy is the larger point of the movie being ignored, that the terrorists are the real threat.
if our democracy is to fail, it will fail from within, not from without. that IS the larger point of a factually-challenged political hit piece being freely shown on the public airwaves less than 2 months before an election.
9/11 is not entertainment.
September 9th, 2006 at 12:22 amZooey put a bag over it, those warts are killing me. Cut a hole in it for your mouth.

right....becuase this never happens. I would suggest that the network evening news on all 3 major channels fit this description - and they are the ones that host election night coverage (and declare winners while polls are still open). Open de eyes.

So are you comparing general run of the mill election bullcrap to the events of 9-11? Or is it just me.
September 9th, 2006 at 12:29 amWe are dictating the terms now
we are? would that be in iraq? where is osama, anyway? didn't bush say the taliban were gone? and yet i just read yesterday that pakistan have signed truces with them. violence in afghanistan is increasing. terrorist acts over the last 5 years were at their highest levels ever.
"I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned."
who said that, bones?
is that what you call "dictating the terms?"

Running ain't the clue, bones, it's the puddle of piss gathering at wingnut America's feet.
September 9th, 2006 at 12:34 ami'm not saying we've taken the fight to them perfectly, but you can't dispute that we've taken it to them.
I can tell you that sitting here being attacked over and over is the opposite of taking it to them. And INDISPUTABLY that is the Clinton legacy - movie or not.
Oh - and terrorist attacks in the US - all time low. You make my point for me. That terrorist attacks (or arent they called 'insurgents') are at the highest levels but none here. That would be the definition of 'dictating the terms'.
Let me ask you - where would you like to fight them?
September 9th, 2006 at 12:37 amZooey,
On second thought, cut a hole in it for your mouth so you can breathe, I don't like dead fish.
September 9th, 2006 at 12:45 ami could be mistaken, but this doesn't sound like the regular bones...
September 9th, 2006 at 12:47 ammaybe an imposter?...

September 9th, 2006 at 12:48 amdon't know who regular bones is - bones is my nickname - not trying to dup anyone. 1st time here.

With or with out benlaudens help....You sir have baught into the extreme radical reich winged fundamentelests christion bull shit and industrial war machine complex crap....Rattle you're bones all you want but you are part of the problem.......Progressives are part of the solution...As soon as we can get this bunch out, indicted and in prison the better our country will be....No need to respond, I leaving.....So sir...screw you and the elephant you rode in on....

September 9th, 2006 at 12:57 amwow. Good constructive debate Sharon Cox. I guess when the facts fail you - at least you still have your anger. Good job.

time to call it a night... probably..
September 9th, 2006 at 1:02 amin case - g'nite all...
...
Again I'm forced to point out the lack of solutions in your response - just paranoid finger pointing. War machine? evil cheney and roves are served by attacks? Yikes.
So if the government is evil, and the government has enemies, who are your allies? What are 'progressives' goals for the country? You say you are part of the solution - who else is part of it? And what does that solution look like - other than your orwellian anti authority posturing of course. I picture some sort of scene out of the matrix.
No need to respond, I('m) leaving as well - to go dream about the military industrial complex.
September 9th, 2006 at 1:05 amWhy should I confuse you're kool aid drunk mind with fact's, it's already made up and in lock step with the reich wing ajenda....Go rattle you're bones on red state with jason........

Besides being creeps, right-wingers are traitors right down to their toenails.
Quick note for Democrats:

Hi all, Here is today’s big update! With some eye-opening news!.
September 9th, 2006 at 7:03 amThe original blog is here:
...
Every post for "bones" from what I see about post 100 on wasn't from me. These chickenshits don't have the nads to argue under their own names. I will contact TP.
September 9th, 2006 at 7:04 amThanks Dixie, first "dreaming of the military industrial complex"? Now that's perverted. Second that's what Exley would say. Third, no humor or for that matter calling someone a complete idiot. Thanks.
September 9th, 2006 at 7:18 amAnd the other night dixie, I could tell right away, it wasn't you. They need to fix this. God forbid you're away for a couple of hours you get back and have been identified as a republican tool. Worse than death.
September 9th, 2006 at 7:20 amits always been permissable in a docudrama to make up scenes that support the facts, however you dont make up facts to support a scene. its that simple
September 9th, 2006 at 8:15 amI think at first the Politicos didn't weigh in because they felt it was interferring with fist admendment and didn't know much about the movie. As the story grew they found out what was going on and began to worry. this is why they began weighing in.
September 9th, 2006 at 8:20 amI think this movie has it roots tied to the White House, Rove, in some way. I think the trail goes there. Remember how it was eventual found that Rove was quietly involved in the Swiftboat thing. I think it goes beyond some small fanatical group.
I have to say, this story would have died and the movie would have been marketed as the actual findings and the gullible would have been swayed. I have to say, Yeah! The power of the Blogs!
truth is this is the first time i've 'blogged' and Bones is what my friends have called me for years. The opinions are mine and mine alone. I'm not trying to impersonate your buddy "bones". I thought I made that clear in my post 111 - please read it.
Still waiting to hear a refute of the facts.
September 9th, 2006 at 8:28 amYou say people are ascribing things to you that you didn't say? No problem. We'll just put a little disclaimer on the front of the site and let people make up their own minds about what bones thinks.
September 9th, 2006 at 8:36 ambones, the one who got here just recently and is causing confusion over which bones is which, it is generally good manners to take another name if the one you would prefer is already taken. Please retitle yourself in order to reduce confusion.

Comment by Yachts and Lattes — September 9, 2006 @ 8:36 am
Yachts, I think the people who post here regularly know to some degree what I stand for. I think the republicans are fascists and they are using their Rovian propaganda tactics to influence an election 2 months hence by defaming Democrats in general. Again, I feel that those who post here regularly would understand that. When someone who by his own admission hasn't posted here before 9-8-06 comes in, uses my exact screen name, even down to the same lack of capitalization ( note you capitalize certain things in your moniker) pretends to be me, writes obvious pro republican drivel (isn't it interesting same name, same lack of capitalization, diametrically opposed political philosophy, and an obvious troublemaker on a progressive blog) I'd say the chances of all those things are pretty slim unless you're out to make trouble and confuse the situation. Note it has also been pointed out to this troll in this string that the name was already taken and yet it persists in continuing to besmirch my screen name and my position. Perhaps you would be more understanding if this happened to you?
September 9th, 2006 at 9:01 amLooks to me like the wheels of Carl Rove's politacal control vehicle have fallen off. Bout' time.
Stay on them everyone and THANK YOU!

September 9th, 2006 at 9:54 ambones - the REAL one - i guessed it and said so at #109, 12:47am...

We had to disable some of the dynamic nature of these pages because of high traffic.
my guess is, if that were not disabled, "bones2" would not have been able to use your handle as such...
so, bones2, do us all a favor, if that's within you, and please make a distinction with your handle... as a matter of courtesy... thanks.

Thanks katy and Zooey. Appreciate the support.
September 9th, 2006 at 10:44 amTo those of you who believe this is either a non-issue or too much time and space have been spent on this:
This morning I was talking to my 17 year old regarding this issue and told her it was a shame I would not be watching Grey's Anatomy anymore. She asked why and I explained to her why I would boycott ABC And Disney. She is an extremely intelligent child, but as with most Americans cannot understand that allowing lies, half-truths and distortions to be promoted to distort history 2 months prior to an election is flat out wrong.
If this were in the theatres or on a cable station I would be mad, but not this angry. These are public airwaves being used to distort history to assist the republicans in maintaining control.
To those of you who say, "turn the channel," I am one of the few who consider it the height of idiocy to pay to watch television so I do not have cable. Do not get me wrong, I like television (my only remaining vice), I just refuse to pay to watch commercials. I therefore only receive the remaining stations that are required to broadcast without cost. This leaves precious little choice.
Anyway, keep up the fight TP!!
September 9th, 2006 at 10:46 amGood Morning All,....Katy..You're playing to nicely with this troll...Clearly he is just another carbon copy of MA, jason H. and others who spread their crap and try to hijack our thread's....I will shunn them with the exception of occasional out burst when they realy tick me off.. I like you're post's and think you are an asset to the site but get tougher girl other wise this bunch is going to run you over....Don't let these troll's prey on you're sympathy..They are undeserving of you're kindness...
Zooey, morning weather report from the coast...rain is on the way along with cooler temp's...
My weekend will be complete if I can find when and where the Denver Broncos are playing and if it will be aired.....Other wise I will have to watch another game..Oh well!
Lastly for this post, for bones #1 I do know exactly what you are going through. Someone else using you're screen name is a nightmare I hope will not be repeated on any one.....For the bones that showed up last night..piss off...we already have several trolls with the very same tricks and scripts you tried....Shunning will now suit this troll like Jason.....Blessings All..Peace

September 9th, 2006 at 11:09 amI'm off to see my baby at college. Great posts this morning, all. Thanks for the cool and windy weather, Sharon. We'll get rid of the smoke now. Sorry, never heard of Grey's Anatomy, sounds bloody, or at least anatomically correct...

September 9th, 2006 at 11:21 amWe need primetime documentaries explaining how the Reagan administration supported Taliban and bin Laden in Afghanistan in the 80's. Reagan was happy to see them bleed the USSR, now we offer them up Iraq to do the same to us. And let's remember the unofficial sponsorship of Saddam against Iran by Reagan.
September 9th, 2006 at 11:31 amHmm some secret troll is hyjacking our screen names again huh? Seixon admitted he used my name on here at least once, so is he the mystery name stealer doing it for revenge on TP posters?
September 9th, 2006 at 11:42 amYEAH, THAT'S THE REAL PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
September 9th, 2006 at 12:36 pmQuit watching ABC, Disney and associated channels (eg Disney Toon, etc) and tell them so. Going farther, program ABC, Disney, etc OUT of your TV's. Tell them so. Tell the advertisers too. Go Al go.
September 9th, 2006 at 2:30 pm47- Hey why isn’t the left planning any protests for the Iranian President’s visit to the UN in Ocyober? He presides over a Fascist regime that has death squads, opresses women and denies the Holocaust? You guys are so cowardly calling an idiot like Bush a Fascist that when a real one appears you guys cower like rats. The Left is afraid of the Islamo-Fascists, that’s why there’s never a peep or protest about a regime that threatened to wipe another off the map! The Left is cowardly and doesn’t take on real Fascists!
Comment by Mickey Mouse — September 8, 2006 @ 10:04 pm
Iran is a theocracy.
You and your buddies should learn what facsism really is.
And of course you are lying that there's "never a peep" from the left.
September 9th, 2006 at 2:33 pmABC network should lose their license to broadcast. This is a flagrant violation of federal laws and if people don't start saying something they will be allowed to get away with it!!! I say we need to force them to not air this program and then take away their broadcast license. Good riddance ABC!!!!!!
September 9th, 2006 at 2:34 pmReally not that hard since you have a computer, learn a definition Mickey Moose:

Fascism is a radical political ideology that combines elements of corporatism, authoritarianism, nationalism, militarism, anti-anarchism, anti-communism and anti-liberalism.

Yeah, GW Stupid sitting in a classroom reading My Pet Goat while he allows Americans to die, by all means go with the REAL story.
September 9th, 2006 at 4:31 pmIt was called "THE Pet Goat," not "My Pet Goat." Let's get our facts straight.
September 9th, 2006 at 5:12 pmIt is too late to stop this docudrama from airing tomorrow night. Moreover, merely calling for the presentation to agree with the 9/11 Commission Report is a long way from getting the complete and true story of what happened relevant to that tragedy. Get out and vote! In order to get the answers to the many questions that the 9/11 Commission swept aside, ignored, or did not answer accurately it is essential for the Democrats to first get control of the House and the Senate. If the Democrats do sweep the elections in November, then we must demand a real investigation of what happened. Following that, the public must demand those guilty be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Feingold and Gore in 2008
September 9th, 2006 at 6:15 pmAl Gore is on the board at Apple Computer. He should talk to Steve Jobs, Disney's biggest stockholder since the sale of Pixar to put pressure on Iger to pull the lying propaganda show.
September 9th, 2006 at 6:25 pmHow many of you nut hatches believe the stuff Michael Moore puts out?
September 9th, 2006 at 7:41 pmGore is not the only one to urge ABC to correct the falsehoods and misrepresentations in the upcoming “Path to 9/11†before it is shown. Conservatives are saying this.
John Podhoretz, conservative columnist and Fox News contributor says: The portrait of Albright is an unacceptable revision of recent history and an unfair mark on a public servant who, no matter her shortcomings, doesn’t deserve to be remembered by millions of Americans as the inadvertent (and truculent) savior of Osama bin Laden. Samuel Berger, Clinton’s national security adviser, also seems to have just cause for complaint.
James Taranto, OpinionJournal.com editor says: The Clintonites may have a point here. A few years ago, when the shoe was on the other foot, we were happy to see CBS scotch "The Reagans."
Dean Barnett, conservative commentator posting on Hugh Hewitt’s blog says: One can (if one so chooses) give the filmmakers artistic license to [fabricate a scene]. But if that is what they have done, conservative analysts who back this movie as a historical document will mortgage their credibility doing so.
Chris Wallace, Fox News Sunday anchor says: When you put somebody on the screen and say that’s Madeleine Albright and she said this in a specific conversation and she never did say it, I think it’s slanderous, I think it’s defamatory and I think that ABC and Disney should be held to account.
Captain’s Quarters blog says:If the Democrats do not like what ABC wants to broadcast, they have every right to protest it — and in this case, they had a point.
Bill Bennett, conservative author, radio host, and TV commentator says: Look, "The Path to 9/11" is strewn with a lot of problems and I think there were problems in the Clinton administration. But that’s no reason to falsify the record, falsify conversations by either the president or his leading people and you know it just shouldn’t happen.
September 9th, 2006 at 7:54 pmIt isn't so much that they deal in lies, we are used to this sort of behavior. My biggest problem I have with the powers that be, is that they tried to distribute lies to our children. You cannot simply change history to suit your agendas. Man, you repubs really have some nerve. You do not own the public airwaves (even though you have tried) to do with what you may. I am a stockholder in the public broadcasting system by right, and I say that it is wrong. I pay taxes that help fund schools and I say I do not agree with distributing material that is fantasy to teach our children history. Americans need to wake up and realise this is all of our country, not just this few elite that are buying their way through life.
September 9th, 2006 at 8:03 pmBy showing something more ridiculous than the 911 Comission Report, "Path to 911" "outrage" makes the 911 Comission Report look legitimate. Have you noticed that people who didn't, are now propping up the Report as "facts"... (BTW the director of "Path to 911" is the son of an Evangelical cultist woman who is recruiting people to take over Hollywood) http://journals.democraticunderground.com/EarlG/75
It's all part of "the strategy of tension" (Google it), and the Triangulation Democrats' plan for this November's Tag-Team-Tyranny with the Repiglicans.
My guess is that according to the "strategy of tension" history, the neo-con perpetratiors of 911 and their terrorist muscle-men will plan and execute an event to win sympathy for republicans in November while at the same time, blame the 911 truth movement for that event. The early stages of an attack on truth seekers has already started. Greg Palast arrested/Stephan Jones Fired/news articles giving coverage to 911 theories etc...
...the fascist press is greasing the public, preparing them to start hating the 911 truth movement for causing an event. Then the 911 truth movement will be historically finished. It's all PSYOPS.

September 10th, 2006 at 2:58 am"Nope you are telling people to shut up and let ABC air their lies…"
Everyone is telling everyone to shut up. And it STILL has nothing to do with any actual free speech issues. ABC has a right air this movie, although they don't have a right to lie and say it's the "unvarnished truth."
I HAVE changed my mind about demanding that ABC take this off the air, however (I had originally argued against such demands). Not for the stupid comments like the one I quoted in response to my previous posts, but because I was reminded eariler today that Disney refused to distribute Fahrenheit 9/11 based on the lie that they did not want to get involved with such a politically controversial film so close to an election. I work in the film industry and no one at the time believed that flimsy excuse. Now, of course, we know that is was a preposterous sham.
Again, for me the real issue is not the movie itself, but the claims that it is the "unvarnished truth" which it certainly and indisputably is not. I'm a filmmaker myself and I know that movies "based on true a story" often take liberties with the facts in order to push certain narrative and dramatic angles. But no one ever claims that these are unvarnished truth or absolute reality, as is being claimed here. And that's simply a lie.
September 10th, 2006 at 3:53 amHopefully everyone is clear about original bones, and bones two. Honest mistake, not hijacking or whateve else you call it.
But I couldnt help but pull this quote from a MyNews arcticle on Michael Moore's newest 'documentary'
Moore's 2002 gun-control film "Bowling for Columbine" won the documentary prize at the Academy Awards. He followed with 2004's "Fahrenheit 9/11," skewering Bush for his actions over the Sept. 11 attacks. The film topped $100 million at the box office to become the biggest documentary hit ever.
Funny that MOore only found time to Skewer Bush over the attacks, but nobody else....and even funnier that this article makes reference to that one point.
It is odd that with all the whining that farenheit was not shown on network TV that there is still no outrage when the entire media gets on the same page and now at this point - assume that all of farenheit 9/11 was true. Now that Path to 9/11 is set to air - all of a sudden the libs have found their media decency voices. Hilarious. Like a kid holding your breath until you get what you want......Hey - we're the only ones that are supposed to get away with this crap.
Can't wait to watch tonights documentary on the path to 9/11.

Yeah funny isn't it. Miramax made Fahrenheit 9/11 and Miramax is owned by Disney. After shelling out millions for the film DISNEY refused to distribute the film and actually tried to prevent any distribution of the film, in essence putting the film in the Disney vault where NO ONE would ever see the film. Moore and his agents had to sue to get Disney to release the film and then had to find an INDEPENDENT distributor. Yeah, funny. Funny that Disney, who has deregulation in front of both Congress and infront of Bush appointee federal regulators, would try despretely to kill the Moore film but pushes forward with a film that
(a) is paid political propoganda in violation of American law (remember Bush has broken the American propoganda laws with the Williams and Karen McDonahue(?) affairs),
(b) helps the republicans in their election efforts by painting "democrats" as "weak on national security and terrorism" - the republican party line , all just 2 months before a major election,
(c) violates the laws against defamation, tort law, despite every 9-11 Commisioner writing to ABC and telling them the events portrayed are not only inaccurate but that the scenes DIRECTLY CONTRADICTE the 9-11 Commision findings. So ABC using the advert, "based on the 9-11 Commision findings" is a lie. ABC despite probable anti defamation litigation where they will lose millions is still going ahead, because the money they will get from media deregulation, etc is greater than what they will lose in litigation.
And it's really pathetic that you discount the opinions of millions of Americans without a thought:
" all of a sudden the libs have found their media decency voices. Hilarious. Like a kid holding your breath until you get what you want"
yeah that's an adult position that makes America better, just crap on your fellow citizens if it isn't something you want. Adults discuss differences and come to compromises, only children try to denegrate the opinions of their peers by totally dismissing their concerns. So we here know who the real petulant child is.
September 10th, 2006 at 9:10 amBones - a few things:
1. It is not hard to 'paint' Democrats as weak on national security becuase....you ARE weak on National Security. Your actions speak much louder than your words - no fresh paint needed.
2. You say EVERY 9/11 commissioner - and of course you again use literary license with YOUR facts on that. What are Jamie Gorelick and Benvinista supposed to say, "Oh this film gets it right, when we were on the 9/11 commission we were only trying to cover up for a decade of doing nothing..". Or Gorelick - " well that little seperation I helped put in between the FBI and the CIA prevented us from opening a computer that had the 9/11 plans on them (becuase it was a LEGAL matter to her)...sorry about that.
3. Your whining about "And it’s really pathetic that you discount the opinions of millions of Americans without a thought: " is truly the icing on the cake. Please just check your post ON THIS VERY PAGE where you state wihtout question...
I think the republicans are fascists (#153). Ouch. Save your 'Adult Position' condescention and the 'crap on your fellow citizens' whining and crying.
I also love your self indulgent diatribe on how someone must really want to be you becuase I used bones as my name - especially the psycho babble about the capitalization - really neat stuff there Einstein. Get over yourself, bones.

September 10th, 2006 at 11:13 amForever - BonesTwo.
Comment by bonesTwo — September 10, 2006 @ 11:02 am
Forever stupid that is.
First, Democrats are not weak on national security. As i previously stated, Clinton caught and tried the WTC bombers at their first attempt and they are serving 240 years. Bush has done nothing. Clinton established the CounterTerrorism Czar and meet with the entire committee multiple times a week, Bush didn't meet with this committee even once. The Millenium Bomb Plot and the plot to blow up US planes over the Atlantic were foiled under Clinton. Under Bush 3000 US citizens died. So as usual you spew crap but you ignore the FACTS.
Second, yes bonesTWO, EVERY 9-11 Commissioner including Gorelick and Benvenista sent a letter to ABC demanding the show be pulled for inaccuracies, sorry you're not up to speed with the news but look it up before you shoot your stupid mouth off and lie yet again republofascist troll.
Third, fighting fascists who are destroying this country demonstrably by breaking our laws is not the same as dismissing the opinions of millions of fellow citizens who have a legitimate grip and coming to a comprimise. You can't bear thoughtful and reasoned discourse because you are an obligate follower and couldn't think your way out of a paperbag without the daily republican talking points.
And finally, you on a personal level are a piece of crap. You state you've never blogged before, so you have no idea of what trolls do on a blog and yet you shoot your stupid mouth off about hijacking names as if you know something, but you don't you just said you've never blogged before. So that's your position, shooting your fat sloppy mouth off without knowing of which you speak, being inconsiderate of the community the first time you've "ever" blogged, and your childish arrogance to presume to know anything - what are you just plain stupid? Go grow up, get some experience then come back when you frickin know something and can have an intelligent conversation.
September 10th, 2006 at 2:04 pmOh and BonesTwo, since you've never done this "blog" thing before, Think Progress is a liberal progressive blog. Progressives gather here to discuss things. Conservatives have blogs where people just like you go. I sorry you were confused this being your first time and all. So go find a conservative blog to join, evidently you have misconstrued this arena as one for a conservative like you.
September 10th, 2006 at 2:09 pmBut I couldnt help but pull this quote from a MyNews arcticle on Michael Moore’s newest ‘documentary’
Moore’s 2002 gun-control film “Bowling for Columbine†won the documentary prize at the Academy Awards. He followed with 2004’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,†skewering Bush for his actions over the Sept. 11 attacks. The film topped $100 million at the box office to become the biggest documentary hit ever.
I'm actually discouraged when wingnuts live up to the stereotype of fact-free fear-mongering idiots.
First of all, Bowling For Columbine was not a gun-control movie.
Second, Fahrenheit 9/11 was about the administration's RESPONSE to 9/11. And since Bush was president and the Republicans were in charge of Congress, who else is he supposed to skewer? And that the article makes reference to that point is dubious, since the article also gets the point of BFC completely wrong.
Third, and most importantly, no one is whining that Fahrenheit 9/11 was not shown on network TV. The fact is that Disney refused to distribute the movie AT ALL, in movie theatres. Their excuse at the time was that the movie was too political too close to the election for them to be involved with it. Their airing of Path To 9/11 belies that excuse and shows it for the sham it is.
It also, btw, undermines the pervasive but utlimately fabricated myth of the liberal media. No truly partisan liberal media, as bonestwo conveniently points out, would be a party Path To 9/11 while at the same time trying to shelve Fahrenheit 9/11.
Another stupid right-wing lie goes down the toilet where it belongs.
September 10th, 2006 at 3:24 pmYou go Al Gore.
September 10th, 2006 at 5:14 pmWell I guess I'm just glad you have promoted me to expert blogger - the word 'hijacking' came from your guys accusations. don't know how many times I have to say it - but it is not my desire in anyway to be you. Just going to have to trust me on that one.
Secondly, NOT all 9/11 Commission members sent a letter - you check your facts boner. Maybe all the Clinton era members, but what the hell else are they going to say...."You caught us, we're liars. We had our pants down (literally) the entire 90s."
Just like you to say you 'foiled' the millenium bomb plot. Anyone with an extra 30 seconds and a link to google can find out that there were ZERO systematic anti terrorist processes in place, and it was just luck by some good border guard. But I as an american am happy to give him credit for it -but let's not put it in the "tough on terror" category just yet.
And I just have to tell you again - that arresting and putting in jail the 'people that tried to blow up the WTC the first time is like swatting flies. It is like saying you have a 100% arrest rate on murders in your town. What I would be interested in is preventing the murders, not swift justice after the bodies are strewn about. It shows that to this day Clinton lovers like you STILL don't understand that what was needed AT THAT TIME was a fundamental shift in government to respond to the growing threat - instead clinton was busy getting laid and lying about it under oath. And no matter how much you rage against it - it will be his legacy.
So - sorry to break in on your "progressive" BLOG party (a.k.a. Sore Loser ) - I have no interest in engaging half wits like yourself. I am sure you will post some half argument filled with a bunch more 'facts' and blathering that I will only have to look half way up the page to refute.
Oh and please change your blog name, you are disgracing the name bones. Call your self squiggy or boner or bunny or something more fitting.
September 10th, 2006 at 5:33 pmactually, I think Screetch is a better name for you now.

Well obviously your real name is dickhead crap for brains turdblossum, but that's just being kind to a piece of ignorant crap like you. Shit for brains. You can twist all the facts you want but you're lying to yourself not me, not history, and none of the other progressives here, moron. This is the "arguement" you evidetly understand so just because you have crap between your ears don't spew your half truths and stupidity and expect us to listen. You don't know what you're talking about and 70% of the country must agree because 70% think we need to get out of Iraq and 60% think Bush is a liar. and I agree, i'd only add shit for brains arrogant know nothings like you to the list. from now on you are your true name Shit for Brains.
September 10th, 2006 at 6:06 pmBonesTwo - actually I think a better name for you is Bush's c*^ksucker. So that's you Bush's c*&ksucker.
September 10th, 2006 at 6:07 pmWell if ABC does the edits the republicans will call them "weak"
If they don't do the edits, the democrats will sue and they may face charges from the FCC.
Either way they are in over their heads...so that is why they should pull it.
And if Bush is interrupting at 9pm then Clinton or a DNC member should have time after this trainwreck
Since the Writer/Producer & Director are conservative then of course there is bias and a conflict of interest.
Air it after the election & the 9/11 anniversary
This is a time America should be coming together, not become more divided.
September 10th, 2006 at 6:23 pmWay to go ABC...way to go.
Mhmm. Short, sweet, concise. ABC/Disney should be ashamed. Even with their "disclaimer", common decency dictates that untruths about that day just ought not be aired. It just isn't right. I'm glad Al Gore stepped forward to bring another voice of common sense in the open. Hopefully it will be heard.
September 10th, 2006 at 8:26 pmclearly gay aliens jews did WTC.
September 10th, 2006 at 9:48 pmScreeetch (Bones)
Excellent reply. I know that's all you could muster based on your 8th grade education. Maybe screetch isnt good enough, maybe it should be Howl at the Moon. So - come on back inside, try to get back on the reservation, finishing reading your hooked on phonics and go to bed, it's a school night.
Later kid.
September 10th, 2006 at 10:38 pmAl is, inconveniently, a true loser. Who cares what he "thinks"?
The docudrama is very interesting and I look forward to tomorrow night's overview of the Bush years.
September 10th, 2006 at 11:22 pmAh, Christine. What a clever reply! Well, lets' see, I for one care what he "thinks", because I respect people who have intellect. (Google the word in case you haven't heard it before) Because unlike those who thoughtlessly follow the right wingers, he actually DOES think. Now, if only our current commander in chief could think.
Then again if I follow your logic, thinkers are true losers, ipso facto, that would make the true winners... brainless? Hmmm. Way to go ABC, you're in good company!
