Kean Hasn’t Talked To Clinton About Path to 9/11 Because ‘He Was Out Campaigning Against My Son Yesterday’

Path to 9/11 graphicTom Kean, former co-chair of the 9/11 Commission, is under fire for his association with ABC’s Path to 9/11. Kean dug in and defended the docudrama, which ABC marketed as “based on the 9/11 Commission Report,” as “reasonably accurate.” Now, Kean has acknowledged that the movie has errors and ABC is reportedly considering edits.

Yesterday, the New York Daily News asked Kean if he’d contacted Bill Clinton:

Asked if he had apologized to Clinton for inaccuracies in the movie, Kean quipped, “No, he was out campaigning against my son yesterday, so I didn’t reach out to him at all!

Kean’s son is a GOP Senate candidate in New Jersey.

As 9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey said yesterday, 9/11 is “is a story that’s of great importance to every single American.” It’s not a political game.

Digg It!

    It’s not a political game.

the GOP liars made it one…

By all means the winning of an election is much more important that the truth.

“No, he was out campaigning against my son yesterday, so I didn’t reach out to him at all!”

Oh, yeah. It’s totally non-biased, right Mr. Kean?

  4. pgw says:

you mean the son whose only chance to win is if voters think they’re voting for you, tom sr.?

  5. Passed Off says:

I would like to start by acknowledging that 9/11 was a tragic event, and as the anniversary rolls around this year, the victims deserve our respect.

Now to the election-year circus that Disney and ABC have launched. It was conceived as a “conservative” (”whatever Cheny wants is right”) distortion of a national disaster. ABC and Disney are paying for this anti-Democrat product and airing it commercial-free, with no sponsor in sight. Casting Democrats as the villains and Republicans as the heroes in an act of mass murder takes politics into obscene territory.

Or is it just entertainment? I’m not informed, not entertained. I’m disgusted.

The writer(s), producer(s), director(s), actor(s), and broadcasters should be ashamed of themselves.

  6. Saji Thomas says:

It’s actually the NY Daily News that repoted this, not the Murdoch-owned NY Post. Not much difference in the ideologial slant but inaccurate nevertheless.

Now I know why Kean let Bush sit in Cheney’s lap during his testimony.

  9. Chris says:

I’m all for a 9-11 dramatization of the Clinton administration, “Path to 9-11, 2000″?

How about we have a Dramatization of the Clinton administration on how they would have handled the 9-11 Al Qaeda threat, as if Bill Clinton was our president heading up to and during the 9-11 attacks, as if the attacks were to be attempted on September , 11 2000, rather than in 2001? all Based on Bill Clinton’s administration performance and preparation leading up to the “Millennium Y2K Bug” and BOMB plot?
During the 90s, I was in Raleigh as a Systems Integrator managing and maintaining Commercail Computer Networks for the whole East Coast, and the only thing that was “Booming” at the time in this country was our economy!
The Millennium New Year’s Eve was coming and We all were getting ready for the greatest party on Earth!
Being apart of a world community, for three years Bill Clinton’s Administration ask us all as a nation, to be ready for the possible Numeral Computer Code Glitch called the “Y2K bug”. Calmly and coolly warning us about a possible al Qaeda “Millennium Bomb Plot” which we all took part in and as a result we all prospered economically from (the IT industry highest stock numbers ever!)
In all the Millennium Bomb plot at the Los Angeles Airport LAX was thwarted, We caught Terrorist Bombers on the Washington State border and “We all partied like it was 1999!”

No excuses, no “30 day vacations in August.”
No “I don’t believe anyone anticipated the breaching of the levees?”
No “No one could have imagined hijacked airplanes flying into buildings?”

The Clinton Administration warning the George W. Bush Administration, that “Bin Laden, al Qaeda will be your biggest threat in the coming future”"
The GWB administration response to this statement was, “We are tried of Swatting at flies.” Not very exciting huh?

ABC’s backpedalling, GOP Sens. rejecting Specter/Cheney gutting of FISA, Pentagon JAGs rejecting GITMO tribunals, Poodle Blair being shown the door. Can you feel it? CANYOUFEELIT!!!!

  12. Yachts and Lattes says:

Kean’s a good guy and I have to think that this remark was tongue-in-cheek. I’m going to give Kean the benefit of the doubt and believe that he didn’t see the most controversial parts of the program, and that his consultancy on the program was for decoration. When asked recently about it, he acted like a team player and spoke based on the assumption that ABC wouldn’t air something that wasn’t “reasonably accurate.”

That doesn’t relieve him of responsibility but I don’t think he’s part of the cabal to put this on the air.

  13. km4 says:

Hey Kean remember this exchange or were you asleep at the 911 commision hearings ?

RICE: I remember very well that the president was aware that there were issues inside the United States. He talked to people about this. But I don’t remember the al Qaeda cells as being something that we were told we needed to do something about.

BEN-VENISTE: Isn’t it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6 PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?

RICE: I believe the title was, “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.”

    Now, the…

    BEN-VENISTE: Thank you.

  14. Natbee says:

If we still had the Fairness Doctrine, ABC would be required to also run a docudrama posing the theory that the Bush Administration was behind 9/11, and that they did it as part of the PNAC agnda for a New World Order. But, of course, we can thank Reagan for ridding the nation of equal time regulations for broadcasters and making it possible for the TV stations to be propaganda arms of the Bush Administration.

  15. Navy Vet says:

Why is the papers of path to 911, that said to be factual but counterfit then Dan Rathers papers on Bushit military career which was factual but counterfit that raised such a stink. smell like a Rose or should that be ROVE

  18. Bill Arnett says:

Boycott ABC! Through a little effort on my part, my family and I have totally blocked ABC & ABCF, both low and HiDef channels on 47 TVs so far, and that’s just a start. I also notified ABC that this blockage would be PERMANENT and that I would be writing their sponsors that they are wasting their money advertising on ABC. I emailed KGO in San Francisco and, I think, most important of all, explained to them that they are totally irrelevant, as any shows I did use to watch will sooner or later be released on dvd and I would buy them then, relegating them to “nothing” status. And I’m serious. No ABC station or affiliate will ever again be seen on all these screens, and by the end of today, I will have helped block them on 74 TV sets belonging to family and friends. I urge everyone to do the same. Cancel the station, buy the programs you like and enjoy them sponsor-free.

Kean’s son is a certified paid-off dork, just like his father, so both of them can go straight to Hell > shame on them!

  22. John Torrey says:

Remember The daVinci Code? The religious right was Terribly Offended over something that was really inoffensive. The entertainment industry saw it as a brilliant marketing ploy: they created buzz at no cost by baiting the right. Are we sure that we (the liberal bolgosphere) are not being da Vincied??? After reading the review in the NYT, by a reviewer who was apparently offended by the Bush reaction to 9/11 but who thought the movie not offensive in itself – I’m not so sure. After all, marketers who wanted to da Vinci us would do exactly what ABC has done: give copies to Rush Limbaugh and not to Bill Clinton, say “just see the movie and judge for yourself,” etc. etc.

The one precious asset that the liberal blogosphere cannot afford to toy with is credibility. If we lose that (and it is always under attack) we lose, period. Could our attack on this movie be a preemptive war on an enemy whose WMDs we have not verified?

  23. sally atticum says:

I have no problem with them airing the movie. I have a problem with no disclaimer informing that the movie is not historically accurate after haveining marketed the movie as an educational tool, as being based on the 9/11 Commission, when in fact it was not. I don’t agree with forcing them to take the show off.. I think that would be inappropriate censorship. However, forcing them to be honest regarding the fictional nature is is another matter altogether. I would even suggest that sending it to conservative talk shows to be false or misleading advertising.

  24. Steven says:

In the late 90’s information was being published in several periodicals like
Newsweek and Time, ect., that Osama bin Laden was one of the TOP TEN
THREATS TO THE UNITED STATES. With over six thousand US troops in Kuwait at that time, treading on the very ground that Muhamad had graced while discovering the Koran, OBL was pissed, to say the least. In an interview, OBL was quoted as saying something like, “Just kill a few Americans and they’ll go away.” Coming from a very wealthy family of the House of Saud and having plenty of funds to carry out his ambition, he did and the rest is history.

It takes years upon years to condition a country in the proper way to behave. And just like the “CARTER” administration in the 70’s, that’s exactly what Bill “ORAL OFFICE” Clinton did. The strength of our country has never been so critically jepordized as with these two Presidents.

Many (and I do mean MANY!) years ago, a smaller, technologically inferior country would have known that attacking a larger, more superior country was suicide. Germany learned. Japan learned.

Our military can’t fight in this day and age. Their hands are tied behind their backs courtesy of politics.

And now our soldiers are like police officers, complete with brutality and excessive force laws. All the while, radical Isamic militants are beheading our citizens on Al-Jazeera for the whole world to see.

It’ll take at least half as many Americans (about 30,000) as were lost in Vietnam before we as a country either take care of this problem as a war or get the hell out of Iraq.

  25. HenryFranc says:

Comment #14 by Natbee is exactly to the point. We need to re-enact the Fairness Doctrine. The airwaves are supposed to belong to the people and the networks are supposed to be good custodians of the airwaves. This unilateral biased reporting in whichever way has got to go. The fact that Disney/ABC was going to shoulder the entire cost of airing this farce shows that they are not in the least interested in performing their role as a good guardian of the airwaves and nothing is compelling them to do so. Were the Fairness Doctrine in effect, they would have to provide balance or risk losing their license.

I have learned that Carl Rove has a way of creating chaos in the minds of the Left wing Democrats to take us “off track” while he drops the other shoe elsewhere and catches us off guard. I’m waiting.

  27. Jim Martin says:

I see in the news that the claim of WMD’s, Iraq’s connection with Bin ladin, purchase of uranium, Aluminum tubes being used to manfacture nuclear weapons, chemical weapons stockpiled, etc.. was all wrong.

In other words the country was fed a pack of lies. I have known this for three years. So why is it taken the news media so long?

I submitted the question ,” why do you think the people should trust you when you lied to the country about Iraq?” to be ask of Cheney on Meet the Press tomorrow moring. I would like to hear his feeble response. I do not accept “it’s the CIA’s fault.”

  28. daniel says:

I watched the first half of “The Path …” and I loved it. I believe Clinton (and all of the liberal leadership) was accurately portrayed as weak, incompetent, cowardly, unpatriotic, and pathetic. God help this nation if they regain power in this country.

Obviously, There is one thing a liberal despises, and that is the truth.

    God bless America.
