On CNN American Morning, conservative talk radio host Bill Bennett told Soledad O’Brien that there is “no reason to falsify the record” or “falsify conversations” in ABC’s “Path to 9/11.” “When ABC comes out and has conversations taking place among cabinet members on recent history,” Bennett said, “I think they should correct those inaccuracies.” Watch it:
Transcript:
BENNETT: Well, maybe having been a cabinet member you know you have some heightened concern about being quoted accurately and correctly. Look, “The Path to 9/11″ is strewn with a lot of problems and I think there were problems in the Clinton administration. But that’s no reason to falsify the record, falsify conversations by either the president or his leading people and you know it just shouldn’t happen.
Conservatives have to be consistent Soledad, when the Reagan’s that show about the Reagan’s, CBS show came out, had all sorts of distortions and misstatements. Conservatives went crazy and had it relegated somewhere, I don’t know, it never appeared on CBS. And so I think they should be consistent. And when ABC comes out and has conversations taking place among cabinet members on recent history, on matters that are still before us, I think they should correct those inaccuracies.

As I wrote to Disney Chairman Mitchell, scrap the broadcast, vet the thing before the whole 9/11 commish and show it on the SIXTH anniv.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:08 pmMaybe this will finally SHUT UP all the trolls who are bitching about “liberal whining”, but I doubt it. They seem to be allergic to logic.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:11 pmHoly crap, did hell freeze over while I wasn’t paying attention.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:13 pmYeah but what does that right wing babe of the week Soledad have to say about it?
September 8th, 2006 at 1:14 pmI am done with ABC. I am going to call my cable company and see if they can block it out. ABC must pay a BIG price for this. Lawsuit, Boycott, something.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:17 pmThe movie deserves to be YANKED. PERIOD.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:18 pmThis should not be edited, it should be scrapped. As somebody noted, Clinton-bashing is “in the DNA” of this piece of shit and cannot be removed. I believe there are 6 entire scenes that would have to be cut completely.
The best and only solution is for ABC to cancel this monstrosity and put it “on hiatus” permanently. And fire whoever gave it the green light.
ABC and their affiliates are going to take a beating on this crapudrama if it runs. ABC is already out $40 million for the crapudrama and additional millions because it plans to run the piece of shit without any ads.
If ABC runs this straight through with no ad holes for local affiliates, they will also be out millions… losing advertising for 5 hours of prime time is huge.
ABC affiliates also run the risk of getting their FCC licenses challenged.
I hope ABC affiliates are burning up the phone lines to ABC about this crap.

September 8th, 2006 at 1:24 pmdon’t bet on abc correcting those inaccuracies
Boycott ABC. Boycott Mickey Mouse (aka: Emperor Bush). Boycott Disney. Boycott all their advertisers.
Then turn that damned TV off. It spreads nothing but the ReichWing’s view of the world as they would like it to be.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:25 pmDo they show the part where clinton is president on 911 and the Bush is President the next day? Hey that is as true as the rest of it!

I know! I started to ask myself, “Whose side am I on again?” I appreciate the conservative support for accuracy. I’m just surprised that they’re willing to do it before it airs, as opposed to saying all this after it already aired.
Anyway, as long as all of us from both sides of the political spectrum want the truth, everyone will win.

Strange. But in keeping with what has become of America in it’s darkest hour.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:31 pmAsI said in th eprecious thread, the time has come for ABC to cut its losses and exercise some damage control.
Yank the film, burn it, apologize profusely to everyone concerned, and pray that the American public remembers this episode as poorly as it seems to remember the rest of American history.
ABC is clearly sweating hard over the objections to this film being made by liberals and conservatives alike. If they go ahead and air this thing, that provides eloquent testimony on how hard they’re being sweated in the other direction.
Of course, the very act of pulling this film will be hailed as a victory by the reichwingnuts, who will contend that liberals are against free speech and therefore anti-american. It’s funny, how these same reichwingnuts can’t seem to remember how The Reagans suffered a similar fate not too long ago…
September 8th, 2006 at 1:34 pmHellinabucket (No. 14) - I believe it was A. Whitney Brown who said, “When the small bears from the windy place take the flag, then you shall know the end is nie.”
September 8th, 2006 at 1:37 pmthis morning i emailed judd to ask about having to enter my name and address with each post… his reply may clear up other questions:
We had to disable some of the dynamic nature of these pages because of high traffic. Shouldn’t be a forever thing.
be patient…
September 8th, 2006 at 1:37 pmOops, that’s “nigh”.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:38 pmLost in all of the uproar over the fiction in this series is what is not included. I have not heard any comment about Bush learning on August 6, 2001 in a PDB that “bin Laden determined to strike inside US”. Just how did Bush respond to that dire warning. Oh, he caught a big perch in his fishing pond which really excited him. That is the real story of what happened prior to 9/11.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:39 pmThey say that the greatest failing of old generals is that they keep trying to refight lost battles. Progs want to keep fighting against national security and the War On Terror until they get it right. Oh, and then there was the “culture of corruption”, which didn’t budge Busby’s numbers from historical levels.
Meanwhile, you guys keep finding enemies among your allies - Lieberman, Clintons, mainstream media, etc. You will never learn that your politics of division and destruction inflict more harm on yourselves than on your opponents.
Again, my purpose is to tell you about the brick wall before and as you run headlong into it, so that you don’t blame those standing closest to you for hitting you in the head.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:40 pm#17 - …Of course, the very act of pulling this film will be hailed as a victory by the reichwingnuts, who will contend that liberals are against free speech and therefore anti-american. Exactly!
The Truth is only convenient if it makes christian cult convservatives look good. They can’t have it both ways.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:41 pmI belive Bill’s actual comment was:
If you aborted all the black babies in the US, then 9-11 would not have happened.
Why are we listening to a vile racist and giving his opinion credence?

You have to give some of these wing-nuts credit, at least they’re trying to be consistent and factual (in this case, as opposed to most other cases). ANd really, it’s in the best interest of the right to be factual, with the public turning against them already and the bad press being generated about the movie. It feeds into the growing public sentiment that Bush and Co are feeding the country a load of crap on terrorism, iraq, etc.

September 8th, 2006 at 2:14 pmNow we’re supposed to care what this fat bastard thinks?
September 8th, 2006 at 2:17 pmAll of this is like the argument for the when the economy heads south. Well it was Ronald Regan and his tax cuts that stimulated the economy for Bill Clinton, even though there was a recession during Bush Sr.’s reign, it’s always a matter of convenience and political expediency. So excuse my cynicism about a TV show portraying the events prior to 9/11 as even close to being close to the truth. Again if ABC news ran this I’d be concerned but it should run and people should decide for themselves, regardless of potential slander, libel, defamation issues. Tripe is tripe, whether it’s a bald face political serving or not. Don’t insult adult’s and parent’s intelligence by telling them you can’t watch this, your intelligence is way too low to understand the subtleties. That is worse damage than the content or the delivery of any film. I will now retire my thoughts and have come to peace with my logic as still remaining sound.

September 8th, 2006 at 2:27 pmthat was great… wouldn’t doubt if it gets linked by the right as fact…
they surely won’t get the joke, anyway…
I figured Harvey Keitel would come forward to exonerate himself in what will, undoubtedly, become a major lawsuit. ABC deserves what it gets for their complicity in misrepresentation of pure, unadulterated “fiction”. They’re probably feeling the boycott already if they check their Nielsen ratings for the week. By Sunday, it will really be impressive.
September 8th, 2006 at 2:30 pmNow we can all send a collective thank you note to ABC for doing more to unify the democratic party than any public relations effort could possibly have done. Not only that but it has effectively turned Independents into Democrats now as well as some of the GOP jumping ship….that is, if they have any sense of decency or morality.
September 8th, 2006 at 2:31 pmsort of bizzare to think he is wanting truth? that is most unlike this sot
September 8th, 2006 at 2:32 pmhe must have something to hide, or we would never hear from him
indictment perhaps?
ABC pulls the movie, and finally it gets distrubuted. On YouTube. The ultimate irony is that it gets fewer views there than “Loose Change”.
September 8th, 2006 at 2:33 pmWhat about the actors portraying the different politicans, aren’t they culpable in this obvious snow-job? Maybe they need to be lambasted along with ABC,cause their just as guilty!
September 8th, 2006 at 2:34 pmPootsie.. Leave the actors alone. they are union members trying to make money just like everybody else. Many times you can’t see any slant or propaganda until the final cut of a movie, by then the contracts are signed and the bills are paid. Be mad at everyone else involved, Isay, except the actors.
September 8th, 2006 at 2:47 pmcoachjason and Pootsie,
Harvey Kietel has already come out and said some of this stuff is wrong.

September 8th, 2006 at 2:59 pmConservatives Should Hate Disney’s Path to 911, To…
I think it is too soon to be making a cartoon about September 11….
September 8th, 2006 at 3:02 pmThe reality that ABC was using “actors” should have been the tipoff! Surely there’s enough empirical data (actual footage, interviews, 9/11 commission transcripts) available to actually put all of this money into a real documentary, with particular sensitivity to remaining loyal to the Truth in empathy for those still mourning the loss of loved ones???
So, in utilizing bona fide “actors” ABC really did know that it was a total embellishment of the Truth; that is, pure fiction. If this is so and they are now backpeddaling so radically, then why did they intend to distribute “fictional work” to Scholastic to brainwish our children with propagandized fiction?? This is where their story falls apart…..
ABC should be sued for gross and calculated misrepresentation as well as an investigation into their proposed contract with Scholastic to put pure propaganda in our schools. Surely, some intelligent attorneys out there will sue their pants off.
This goes well beyond freedom of speech - it ’s collusion….it is intentional misrepresentation …. it is attempting to propagandize our children….
All embarrassingly shameful to ABC, Disney, and GOP
September 8th, 2006 at 3:05 pmBe mad at everyone else involved, Isay, except the actors.

Its like saying soldiers commiting point-blank murder or pushing jews into Siemens ovens were just following orders and getting paid. They are people and people think, therefore, they can choose.
September 8th, 2006 at 3:09 pmOne question: What does ROTFL mean?
September 8th, 2006 at 3:10 pmJuan C. There’s a HUGE difference between murdering people and making a made-for-t.v. movie. I’m sure the average person can tell the difference between pushing people into burning furnaces and portraying people in a “docu-drama”. Your comparison, while interesting, is still apples to oranges.

I agree. I exaggerated. But, the difference is in the consequences but not in the source of the issue: Free will.
September 8th, 2006 at 4:57 pmI think that whenever you put a t-shirt of Coca-Cola, you are indirectly supporting a company that kills union workers in Bogotá, for example. Or if you have an account in Citibank then you agree their money-laundring for drug-dealers and corrupt leaders. So, it is your, our responsibility to know who or what are we supporting whenever we engage with some project or buy some stuff.
Hey, katy. Thank you very much. Very useful link.
September 8th, 2006 at 5:07 pmMy goodness! When Bill Bennett agrees it’s wrong to put this movie out with those fictional scenes, there’s got to be something seriously wrong!
September 8th, 2006 at 5:22 pm[…] It’s not just “Clintonistas”, as ABC’s Senior Washington Correspondent John Cochran called them yesterday. Bill Bennett and a host of conservatives, prominent historians, and the signatures of over one hundred twenty thousand Americans on one anti-Disney effort alone are also calling on Disney/ABC to put this thing out of its misery. So why aren’t they? It is a bad, bad corporate move to associate Disney, Mickey Mouse and ABC with partisan posturing, and especially posturing that uses the smoke and deaths of 9/11 as political backdrop to try to prop up alternate “fictionalized” versions of history. It’s the kind of thing that gets remembered for a long, long time. […]
September 8th, 2006 at 7:12 pm[…] This is not a partisan issue. Numerous conservatives – including Brent Bozell, former Reagan aide Bill Bennett, author Richard Miniter, and others – have said that ABC should correct the factual errors in the series. […]

September 9th, 2006 at 7:55 pmComrades Bravo!
These traitors at ABC are betrayers of our new mother land. Where I come from, this Robert A. Iger would be dragged through the streets in front of the tomb of our glorious leader Vladimir Lenin and shot in public. The producers, directors, writers and anyone associated with this propaganda would be picked up in the early hours of the morning by our State Security Chief Lavrenty Beria (The Black Hand) and taken to a Siberian labor camp never too be heard from again.
For many years I have been loyal to ABC and the Pravda (truth) that our Socialist Liberal ally has put forth in order to progress our ultimate goal; the decline and absolute destruction of America and the capitalist traitorous pig’s like ABC.
I ask you Mr. Robert A. Iger, “Have you no shame Sir
Comrades, we must not give up the fight. It has taken us many years to groom you and your elected leaders.
Remember what our great leader Nikita Khrushchev said:
“ We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism ”
It’s more important now then ever before that we stand together and stay focused! We can not allow this abomination of propaganda to go forward.
We must do whatever it takes to keep this film from airing on Sunday the 10th, 2006, we only have a few hours left.
It is your duty as loyal Liberal Socialist Democrats to rise up in solidarity and put a stop to this immediately!
Senator Harry Reid, one of our courageous and distinguished Senatorial leaders from the state of Nevada, reminded the capitalist traitorous pigs at ABC of their license from the FCC. Please Senator Reid, we’re your loyal comrades in arms and begging you to use all the glorious power you possess. You must stop this film! You must push forward with an iron fist and crush this despicable display of propaganda.
If this film isn’t stopped from airing on ABC, Sunday night, I’m afraid all our efforts since the cold war and the aspirations of our great leaders from glorious years past and Nikita Khrushchev’s dreams and predictions will have been lost.
If we loose now, the great Liberal Socialist Democratic Party, we have nurtured, will decline into the ash heaps of history never too be heard from again.
You must!…. I repeat, you must contact our comrades in arms at their offices in Washington.
Now I’ve done all the work all you have to do is contact our comrades below by e-mail or call:

Repeat a lie often enough and it will be believed. Â Adolph Hitler
September 11th, 2006 at 1:33 pmLA Times, December 5, 2001, Mansoor Ijaz, Muslim advisor to Bill Clinton, and I quote;
“President Clinton and his national security team ignored several opportunities to capture Osama bin Laden and his terrorist associates, including one as late as last year.
I know because I negotiated more than one of the opportunities.”
“As an American Muslim and a political supporter of Clinton, I feel now, as I argued with Clinton and Berger then, that their counter-terrorism policies fueled the rise of Bin Laden from an ordinary man to a Hydra-like monster.”
Sorry, but that’s the truth, and I can show you a number of other articles proving these facts. Â But I know, most of you, don’t want me to bother you with the facts. Your mind is made up.
Clinton lies again, believe it.
Well, as usual, people who have not seen the movie have all kinds of opinions about it. Watch it. It will be available at some point. It follows the 911 Commission’s report exactly. I followed the movie while searching the 911 Commission’s report. BOTH administrations are “bashed”, if that’s what you want to call it. The point of the movie is to learn from our mistakes and try to move forward. Apparently, as we’ve seen throughout the history of this country, extreme liberals can’t learn from history because they’re too busy making up their own version of reality to fit what they already think. (This entire Blog proves my point. Look at all the “opinions” based on what? On talking heads making guesses about “if this is in the movie, then I think it’s slanderous . . .”)
The end of the movie rates the Bush administration’s performance after the Commission provided their report with numerous F’s and D’s, with only one “A”. Once Bush took office, there are plenty of places in the movie that point out his administrations failings as well. The movie is factual and fair, but you will never know because your mind is made up, without having seen it!
Where was all your outrage at having “facts” and “accuracy” when Fahrenheit came out? And, that movie tried to call itself a “documentary”.
