Rice: ‘There Were Ties Going On Between Al Qaeda And Saddam Hussein’»

Today on Fox News Sunday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice repeated the false assertion that Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda had a relationship before the 2003 invasion, despite the recent Senate Intelligence Report that found U.S. intelligence analysts strongly dispute that claim. Watch it:

Rice tried to pin the blame on then CIA Director George Tenet, saying he said, “there were ties going on between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein’s regime going back for a decade.” But in July, Tenet told the Senate Intelligence Committee that “the White House pressured him and that he agreed to back up the administration’s case for war despite his own agents’ doubts about the intelligence it was based on.”

Rice also tried to dismiss the Senate report as being after-the fact, stating, “Now, are we learning more now that we have access to people like Saddam Hussein’s intelligence services? Of course.” But as Wallace pointed out, a Defense Intelligence Agency report from Feb. 2002 — before the U.S. invasion — also concluded that Iraq and Al Qaeda had no relationship: “Iraq is unlikely to have provided bin Laden any useful CB, that’s chemical or biological, knowledge or assistance.” Rice said she did not remember seeing that report.

Digg It!

Full transcript below:

WALLACE: I want to discuss just one area, the issue of whether Iraq helped Al Qaeda with weapons of mass destruction. Here’s what the President said in October of 2002.

[BUSH VIDEO]: We’ve learned that Iraq has trained Al Qaeda members in bomb-making, in poisons, and deadly gases.

WALLACE: And in March 2003, just before the invasion, you said, talking about Iraq, “a very strong link to training Al Qaeda in chemical and biological techniques.” Secretary Rice, a Senate committee has just revealed that in February of 2002, months before the President spoke, more than a year, 13 months before you spoke, that the Defense Intelligence Agency concluded this, and let’s put it up on the screen: “Iraq is unlikely to have provided bin Laden any useful CB, that’s chemical or biological, knowledge or assistance.” Didn’t you and the President ignore intelligence that contradicted your case?

RICE: What the President and I and other administration officials relied on and — you simply rely on the Director of Central Intelligence. George Tenet gave that very testimony, that there were ties going on between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein’s regime going back for a decade. Indeed, the 9/11 Commission talked about contacts between the two. We know that Zarqawi was running a poisons network in Iraq. We know that Zarqawi ordered the killing of an American diplomat in Jordan from Iraq. There were ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda. Now, are we learning more now that we have access to people like Saddam Hussein’s intelligence services? Of course. We’re going to learn more.

WALLACE: Secretary Rice, this report — if I may, this report isn’t now. This isn’t after the fact. This was a Defense Intelligence Agency report in 2002. Two questions. First of all, did you know about that report before you made your statement?

RICE: Chris, we relied on the reports of the National Intelligence Office, the NIO, and of the DCI. That’s what the President and his central decisionmakers rely on.

WALLACE: Did you know about this report?

RICE: There are conflicting intelligence reports all the time. That’s why we have an intelligence system that brings those together into a unified assessment by the intelligence committee of what — community of what we’re looking at. That particular report I don’t remember seeing.

  1. katy Says:

pretty much same thing on face the nation…
she also sounded like rummy - “could we? did we? yes, but…”
    no shame…

  2. Joshua E. Says:

Cheney is basically doing the exact same thing on Meet the Press. Tim is better than usual (which doesnt’ take much) is not letting Cheney get away with it. Cheney’s been a bit stifled by his questioning.

  3. manny's mission Says:

Tim seems a bit more tough with Cheney, he almost seems pissed that Cheney lied to him so many times. Tim is hitting him with the “greeted as liberators” routine, and Cheney might have just studdered. This man is evil and will go straight to hell.

  4. koalablue Says:

Good to see she can keep playing the same tune….
If she could just learn catapulting. that would be great

  5. nanlichi Says:

So we are left with a quandry, who are we going to believe? Rice, Bush, Cheney…. or the CIA, FBI, 9/11 Commission, a Repulican based Senate Intelligence Committtee report….

When you are blatantly lied to once, wouldn’t you exercise some caution the next time around?

Or as the Decider mumbles…”Fool me once, er, ah, well hell, you know what I mean!”

  6. John Says:

Was this a lie or was she just being weasely?

I think there were contacts between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, but Hussein hated bin Laden, no?

  7. unbelievable Says:

Doesn’t her nose look a bit longer than it did last week?

  8. Jon E. Says:

She’s lying and being weasly, far as I can figure. To move from “Saddam was providing al-Qaeda with substantial training in biological and chemical weapons manufacturing and use” to “al-Zarqawi was operating out of Iraq” and pretend you haven’t moved at all is disingenuous, unless you’re too dumb to tell the difference (which Rice isn’t).

Think about it: the first claim is that Hussein and al-Qaeda were coordinating paramilitary training and weapons manufacturing advice systematically and significantly. Depending on the seriousness and frequency of such alleged contact, that might well justify invading Iraq or at least bombing Iraq.

The second claim says nothing more than “al-Qaeda had operatives in Iraq.” That’s not a reason to invade Iraq. I mean, jeepers, al-Qaeda had and/or has operatives in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, etc etc. For that matter, they had a bunch of guys operating in the US–you know, planning 9/11. In fact, if you balance the the pre-war damage done by al-Qaeda in Iraq and al-Qaeda in the US, there’s a MUCH better case to be made for having invaded ourselves.

  9. Bush Bites Says:

    Lying, bucktoothed bitch.

  10. Clyde the Ripper Says:

“Rice also tried to dismiss the Senate report as being after-the fact…”

When will they ever learn that facts do not have expiration dates?

  11. Jay Randal Says:

Condi Rice is lying about Saddam having had ties to Osama > they both hated each other big-time! The Bush Regime members are trying to foist this falsehood today, before the ABC/Disney phony docudrama is shown!

  12. mparker Says:

Disaster in Iraq, disaster in Afghanistan, disaster in Lebanon, disaster in New Orleans.

The BUSH REGIEM’S plan to deal with all of these problems.

PROPAGANDA BASED ON LIES AND DISTORTIONS

    AND MORE PHOTO OPS.

[…] OMG: Just minutes after I publish this post, Condoleeza Rice says on FoxNews: “There were ties going on between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein” […]

  14. Clyde the Ripper Says:

If Ms. Rice insists on living across the line of truth she may be in need of all the protection she can get. Perhaps she should change her name to Condom.

  15. km4 Says:

BEN-VENISTE: Isn’t it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6 PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?

RICE: I believe the title was, “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.”

    Now, the…

    BEN-VENISTE: Thank you.

  16. bones Says:

So the government has given us the example, lie and lie some more. A great lesson for all citizens.

  17. RealScientist Says:

    liar liar pants on fire

  18. Garrett Says:

    LIES!!

Even Fox News is having trouble covering these up!

  19. Godfry Daniel Says:

Thanks for deleting my comments. Perhaps my language was too truthful? Or maybe you don’t believe in resurrection?

  20. Chet Says:

It was not bad intel that led to the Bush invasion of Iraq. It was bad leadership and judgement by Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice. They can never blame it on intel.

  21. trueblue Says:

Action Alert: Call the BBC, tell them to drop “Path to 9/11″

We have one chance left. Let’s try.

P.S. Please try nor to delete this post. It’s important!

  22. Grey Eagle Says:

Lies and more lies .Faux news , right place to postulate those lies.
One day hteu will go arpound wearing goeble”s masks.

  23. Jay Randal Says:

Weird pic of Condi Rice used on this thread > she looks dazed and confused > the Bush Regime membership have gone insane and it shows!

  24. AnAmerican Says:

What a convenient memory these bushco thugs have.

  25. Mr. Todd Says:

wow chris wallace didnt let her walk with that excuse. way to go little man

  26. Marie Says:

    test……

  27. Jay Says:

As I recall, the Repukelicans were in full battle cry about President Clinton lying about a blowjob and tried to find any justification for him lying to get him impeached. Now we have every damned one of the highest administration officials blatantly lying about a somewhat more serious issue (forcing a country to war and all its ramifications) and all is OK?

  28. Heynow Says:

Fox News can’t even pig lipstick on this pig anymore.

  29. Not Surprised Says:

Why are we surprised at her comments - She is where she is because she learned to play the “The Game”. Condoleeza is a bright, educated woman who has payed a price for success and that price is her integrity. She is only regurgitating what the administration demands of her. Shame on her for selling out, but that happened a long time ago.

  30. Robert Mendez Says:

If they knew all this about Tenet, why did Bush adorn him with medals, and why hasn’t anyone asked why he did so?

  31. Canuckistanian Says:

Well then, Condi, you better haul ass down to the Senate Intelligence Committee and straighten them right out.

Or is there a sale on Ferragamo?

  32. steve ex-expat Says:

Cheney just tried the same thing with Russert. These are stupid and evil people.

  33. Clyde the Ripper Says:

    #31 Robert

    In answer to your question:

“Heck of a job ___________________ .” (Add your own screw-up)

  34. Marie Says:

Rice can’t stop lying. Someone stop her. She’s out of control.
There seems to be a mental disorder afflicting all who occupy the White House — a kind of insanity that compels them to ignore facts and re-write history; they constantly lie to the public, and support their fellow liars in the White House asylum.

  35. For Truth Says:

Recent predictions of a full-on right wing information campaign appear to be materializing, as Dr. Rice is called in to use her Doctorly powers and tell us how it is.

  36. laird Okie Says:

Russert let Cheney get away with saying that Zarqawi was in cahoots
with Sadaam, when the Intelligence Commitee report says just the opposite. Also that Sadaam compensated the families of suicide bombers –
leaving the impression that these were attackers against the US, when in
fact these were subsidies to Hezbullah or Hamas members; Russert didn’t
    make him clarify this.

  37. Sadly Disappointed Says:

This kind of bs is to be expected one day before 9/11. They’ve dominated the airwaves this entire week, I guess they figure the more the message is told the better the brainwash, eh? They’re clearly desperate to keep their asses out of jail.

  38. sunshine Says:

SPINDOCTOR RICE is at it again. Condi, get your head out of your butt for once - it’s doing nothing for your hairdo!

  39. Simple Says:

    These are not mistakes.
    It’s simple.
perpetual war = retain power = transfer of wealth
There is NOTHING they won’t do
    to retain power.

  40. Grey Eagle Says:

THERE IS PANIC IN THE WHITHE HOUSE

The loss of the house and better yet the senate could mean endless investigation and exposure of their machinations which could bring them long term jail.
Could it be they new in advance of the attack of 9/11 .It would not surprise me the least.

  41. Zooey Says:

I see George (Speed Bump) Tenet has finally served his ultimate purpose — being thrown under the bus when Condi’s toes get a little close to the fire.

Condi must have gotten her copy of the Senate Intel Committee’s incomplete report…

She’s a cool liar, I gotta hand it to her, not even a hint of sweat on that upper lip.

  42. Cyra Brown Says:

BushCo… Taking crazy to a whole level.

  43. Badmoodman Says:

I’m waiting for Condi to go on one of these TV talk shows and insist that she’s Caucasian and blow off all evidence to the contrary. She’ll repeat it over and over with a straight face, flummoxing the host who will eventually believe her staunch sincerity.

  44. jean simpson Says:

so what else is new…always blame someone else for your mistakes. we are constantly being fed distortions and lies from this administration. why doesn’t the media spend more time bringing out the truth by talking to someone other than members of this administration?

  45. Zooey Says:

    jean simpson,

No time! Gotta talk about the missing white girls; gotta have a wet dream or two about getting the footage of Croc Hunter’s stingray encounter; there’a a surfing squirrel out there somewhere; gotta go to Costco to get the big barrel of lip gloss; cell phone ringing!; and latte — can’t live without the latte…

    …were you saying something?

  46. USA PATRIOT Says:

But as Wallace pointed out, a Defense Intelligence Agency report from Feb. 2002 — before the U.S. invasion — also concluded that Iraq and Al Qaeda had no relationship: “Iraq is unlikely to have provided bin Laden any useful CB, that’s chemical or biological, knowledge or assistance.”

Is Amanda dishonest or illiterate? “unlikely to have provided bin Laden any useful CB, that’s chemical or biological, knowledge or assistance.” DOES NOT EQUAL “no relationship”.

  47. Brian Says:

    DUMBASS!

  48. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party Says:

She might want to get her head out of her ass before she opens her mouth.

  49. A Raging Moderate Says:

She is a liar. George Tenet got his Medal of Freedom for giving the Bush/Cheney regime the trumped-up evidence it wanted.

  50. Marie Says:

#45 why doesn’t the media spend more time bringing out the truth by talking to someone other than members of this administration?

This should be asked and then demanded every day. The TV news shows are just that - shows - they are a revolving stage for White House minions, followed by the he said/she said pundits.
Why are there so few interviews with experts, with people who know the history, know the facts and the background? We hear from those with agendas on a mission to promote themselves.
Could it be that people who really are objective, impartial and in the know are a threat to the White House and, by default, the self-serving corporate agenda of their own?

  51. Badmoodman Says:

Condi Rice: ‘There Were Ties Going On Between Al Qaeda And Saddam Hussein’ - - Condi elaborated, “We understand they also exchanged cufflinks.”

  52. Henry Harris Says:

Why is everybody surprised by this? We have a president from the oil industry, a vice president who’s the CEO of a war profiteering company invade a country, secure the old wells and do a huge no-bid contract with the vice president’s company.

Sometimes two plus two does equal four.

The fact that Fox News is doing this must mean the money people are worried they’re going to lose the real reason for the war. That’s the trouble with absolute power. You can lose absolutely.

  53. Armando Gomez Says:

    The Con in Conservatives

    September 9, 2006

The front page article “Senate panel disputes prewar claims” by Greg Miller is closing in on the Bush administration by drawing the curtain back, revealing the sordid deception and treachery in how this administration got this country into a war in Iraq. The big ticket items such as Iraq’s involvement with al-Qaida and its intentions to use WMDs against the United States were non-existence. The source of this intelligence didn’t come from the CIA but from the Iraqi National Congress, at the basement of the Pentagon, created by an Iraqi exile named Ahmad Chalabi and Vice-President Dick Cheney. In short, every assertion the Bush administration made for the war in Iraq was a lie. Bush, Cheney, and Remsfeld went out of their way to either to ignore or refute counter intelligence from the CIA’s position that Iraq never had any WMDs at the time or was involved with the destruction of the World Trade Center. What’s worse is all this was available to the public before the war but the right wing as well as the mainstream media kept the light off the truth but was unable to bury it. That’s why there was a movement against the war before it happen. It’s obvious now why Senator Pat Roberts buried this revelation during the presidential election of 2004.

  54. Abso Says:

See the picture of Rice at yahoo? She looks like she is ready to kill.

  55. clarence swinney Says:

Bush admitted he was a Recovering Drunk.

He said this per Judy Keen on USA Today

“I’m on a Walk just like you and it is a never ending Walk as far as I’m concerned”.

He said this in front of reporters to a group of recovering addicts in Iowa.

Who will advertise this? Will you? Will your readers?

    clarence swinney
    political historian of Reagan-Clinton-Bush administrations.

ever see it on Fox or any TV?

  56. still life Says:

George Tenet sold his integrity for a comfortable retirement and a Presidential Medal Of Freedom.
He, and his fellow recipients of this largesse from the Bush Administration should compare that with Judas’ biblical thirty pieces of silver.

How do those who supported this ongoing wholesale slaughter, depletion of taxpayers’ money and the reputation of the U.S. in tatters live with themselves??
    IS IT WORTH IT???

  57. The fly-man Says:

So if there were ties why would the VP and his staff decide it was ok to trash a whole operational group, say Valerie Plame’s, if they were so sure of these connections. We know Saddam wanted more WMDs right? Wouldn’t they would have needed more information from the CIA?

  58. Art Broughton Says:

She is the most inept liar since Jon Lovitz character on Saturday Night Live. Even Fox News peeked around its blinders and saw through her.

  59. FRED T. Says:

The so-called fact Zarqawi was in Iraq or any other al - qaeda member proves absolutely NOTHING. How’s is that “proof” to a connection between them and the Iraqi govt., which we now know for certain there was NONE, something the whitehouse knew from the beginning. If there are Al qaeda members in the U.S. does that prove a connection to the U.S. goverment, probably not. These criminals knew there were no connections, and knew Atta never met with Iraqi agent in Eastern Europe, they knew these were all lies, knew Iraq was contained and was no threat to his neighbors and this why all of these criminals, including colin powell should be put ON TRIAL, for WAR CRIMES!

  60. Karen Bidwell Says:

On the very same talk-show morning, two top administration officials have stated on national television that they either did not yet read or do not remember reading two separate reports from two separate sources disclaiming the ties between Saddam Hussein and September 11 or Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden.

There are numerous reports and many first-hand accounts that seriously question these connections. True to character, there are also numerous instances in which this maneuver of “I haven’t read it or remember it, therefore it is irrelevant” has been applied by these same administration officials time after time.

For Rice to say she (or, presumably Rumsfeld) cannot remember reading a DIA report of such high import from before the war; and for Cheney, the Vice President of the United States, to say with a straight face — go on national television with all the questions in the minds of the American public pertaining to THIS very report right now — that he has not yet read, “didn’t have time,” to read the current Senate Intel report about the progress of the war — is either evidence of tantamount contempt for the responsibilities of their jobs pertaining to the American public at large and the professionals who provide them with crucial intelligence, or plain flat-out lying. If they aren’t reading the reports or can’t remember them then our Commander in Chief, who requires being spoon-fed this stuff by these two, certainly hasn’t, or is also lying.

Combine this with the recent outlandish claim by Bush handlers that the President has read in the last year a number of extremely intellectually challenging novels or plays, like Camus’ “The Stranger” and Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” — the number and likes of which even the most literate citizen carrying a regular full time job would find daunting — and well, folks, we have a serious disconnect on our hands. The President either has too much time on HIS hands or Laura hasn’t yet added Kafka’s “Amerika” to the syllabus. Or it is something else. Hammer them on this.

  61. RealScientist Says:

In an editorial in Friday’s WSJ, that pathetic jackass Paul Gigot repeated the claim about Bush’s book reading contest as though he actually believed it.

  62. Ed The Eternal Optimist Says:

The tapestry of lies woven by the New American Century/ GOP is coming unraveled. Condi et al are finding it harder and harder to confront their earlier lies with recent ones. America has been taken in a silent coup, and theose responsible must be found guilty and removed from office. Prison should be the logical place for the entire White House crew, and the coming Democratic Congress must make this happen, using every legal means at its disposal.

  63. CalGal Says:

What’s the matter with that woman? Did she skip out on this week’s talking points where everyone is supposed to blame 9/11 on President Clinton? People aren’t going to believe her if she can’t stick to her script. Or maybe it’s a part of their plot. Throw out a little of this and that and see what sticks.

  64. Zooey Says:

    CalGal,

There’s a sale at Feregamo, what’s she supposed to do? She’s dreaming of strappy sandals and stiletto heels…

  65. Dave von Ebers Says:

These are the same folks who told us al Zarqawi was in Bagdad having his leg amputated after being injured in an attack. Funny, though, after we killed al Zarqawi, no one ever mentioned his peg leg again.

Perhaps that’s because he never had his leg amputated?

Seems they’ve dropped the whole “top-al-Qaeda-leader-receiving-medical-attention-from-Saddam” story altogether …

  66. anonymous Says:

ms. rice is a liar. period. she and the depraved mass-murdering, war profiteer cheney are drunk on their own profane fumes. it’s a sad day for the american people to have evil, rapacious criminals hijack our govenment and drag us all into the gutter of their filth and greed.

  67. JenJen Says:

Cheney did exactly the same on “Meet the Press.” When confronted with his own August, 2002 speech where he said “There is no doubt Sadaam Hussein has WMD,” he responded by scapegoating George Tenet, blaming his belief on the intelligence given to him and the President, even resurrecting Woodward’s infamous “slam dunk” comment.

Shameless, this cast of characters. Not that Tenet shouldn’t share the blame, but our leaders won’t take any responsibility for it themselves. And of course they awarded Tenet with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

  68. sunshine Says:

Is it just me or do I see visible signs of premature aging on our gal, Condi? Either that or both her hairdresser and make-up artist recently quit.

That’s what a life of continuous lying does to an individual…..poor tired looking, wrinkled Condi girl. I really think she’s deluded enough to believe that anyone listens to her airheaded explanations and talking points any longer. I’m beginning to feel sorry for the old gal….she ain’t what she used to be….and that wasn’t very much to begin with.

She’s been discredited by her own circuitous ramblings. Like Dumbya who suffers from another disorder (hoof ‘n mouth), Condi has become just plain obsolete.

  69. sunshine Says:

Instead of giving Condi girl the Medal of Freedom, maybe she can be the next candidate for the Beautiful Swan makeover??

  70. Shlomo Says:

It would intertesting to see how she would respond to the FACT that Bin Laden offered to wage war AGAINST Saddam when he threatened to invade Kuwait. Rivalries in the Arab world don’t die easily, even where Israel is concerned.

  71. Sorscher Says:

As National Security Advisor, it was Rice’s responsibility to evalutate intelligence and give the Great Decider valid information. Obviously the administration was intent on creating its own “reality,” and Rice particiapted in that fabrication. Rice failed to execute the responsibilities of her office.

  72. Publicus Says:

Chris Wallace’s politics may be right-wing, but he’s starting to show the guts of his dad in uncovering the truth. Between this interview, and the stand he’s taken on the movie “Path to 9/11″, I bet he won’t last much longer at Fox. (He’s said that there’s plenty to criticize the Clinton Administration about, but that putting phony words into the mouths of Berger and Albright is just plain wrong.)

I’m finding Wallace’s behavior much more interesting than the predictible BS that Rice is delivering…

  73. Nikita Sergeyevich Says:

    Comrades,

Forget what Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said today on Fox News Sunday! We must focus on ABC’s “The Path to 9/11”

These traitors at ABC are betrayers of our new mother land. Where I come from, this Robert A. Iger would be dragged through the streets in front of the tomb of our glorious leader Vladimir Lenin and shot in public. The producers, directors, writers and anyone associated with this propaganda would be picked up in the early hours of the morning by our State Security Chief Lavrenty Beria (The Black Hand) and taken to a Siberian labor camp never too be heard from again.

For many years I have been loyal to ABC and the Pravda (truth) that our Socialist Liberal ally has put forth in order to progress our ultimate goal; the decline and absolute destruction of America and the capitalist traitorous pig’s like ABC.

I ask you Mr. Robert A. Iger, “Have you no shame Sir”?

Comrades, we must not give up the fight. It has taken us many years to groom you and your elected leaders.

Remember what our great leader Nikita Khrushchev said:

“ We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism ”

It’s more important now then ever before that we stand together and stay focused! We can not allow this abomination of propaganda to go forward.

We must do whatever it takes to keep this film from airing on Sunday the 10th, 2006, we only have a few hours left.

It is your duty as loyal Liberal Socialist Democrats to rise up in solidarity and put a stop to this immediately!

Senator Harry Reid, one of our courageous and distinguished Senatorial leaders from the state of Nevada, reminded the capitalist traitorous pigs at ABC of their license from the FCC. Please Senator Reid, we’re your loyal comrades in arms and begging you to use all the glorious power you possess. You must stop this film! You must push forward with an iron fist and crush this despicable display of propaganda.

If this film isn’t stopped from airing on ABC, Sunday night, I’m afraid all our efforts since the cold war and the aspirations of our great leaders from glorious years past and Nikita Khrushchev’s dreams and predictions will have been lost.

If we loose now, the great Liberal Socialist Democratic Party, we have nurtured, will decline into the ash heaps of history never too be heard from again.

You must!…. I repeat, you must contact our comrades in arms at their offices in Washington.

Now I’ve done all the work all you have to do is contact our comrades below by e-mail or call:

Rice is a compulsive liar. And as Secretary of State she’s incompetent.

  75. Barfly Says:

Thank you comrade Nikita, the republicans will need a quick wit like yours in November, to take their minds from jumping out the window!

  76. Jason Quit and Run Says:

Rice tried to pin the blame on then CIA Director George Tenet,

So why then did George give Tenet a medal?

President George W. Bush presents former Central Intelligence Agency director, George J. Tenet, the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in the East Room of the White House, Tuesday, December 14, 2004
    ==
Is Condi now saying that Tenet didn’t deserve a medal?
So why did Tenet get a medal? Mr. ‘Slam Dunk’
“According to a new book by Bob Woodward, “Plan of Attack,” Tenet told Bush before the war that it was a “slam-dunk” that Hussein possessed the banned …”
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp-dyn/ articles/ A12296-2004Jun3.html

“But, but he said, he got, a medal, he said it was a slam dunk, I never said mushroom cloud, Tenet, Cheney, the OSP, the Whigs said it was the WHIGS, but he said they said, but but Tenet got a medal, and so did Bremer, but they lost billions in Iraq, But Yellowcake!! It was chalabi, it it was, but, Cheney, wolfowitz said read between the lines, the B team, Strauss and hegel , see, lookm, but then, it was not me, I didnt say, but I di, look Tenet got a medal!!” -KindaSleazy Vice

    Condi looks desperate….

  77. Jason Quit and Run Says:

BORe;So Mr Bush was on vacation when the PDB warning of an attack on America came in?
    Yes he was..

BORe;And ABC is trying to say that Clinton was distracted, correct?
Yes But he was playing Golf..and he was distracted by Ken Starr,

BORe;But the Charges against Clinton were later dropped?
Yes, but that doesn’t matter, see he was that..

BORe;Oh, so Ken Starr wasted alot of the Presidents time and taxpayer money?
But he lied, Clinton lied, because, he did he..fibbed.

BORe;Are you saying George hasn’t lied?
Of course he has..look see a lie is a lie, but propaganda isnt..it has to be catapulted in this business, see?!!

BORe;And what was Mr. Bush doing?
re re reading.. a book I think,,

BORe;How long of a vacation distracted Mr Bush.
A month,, I think, but he was on vacation and clearing brush..
    that thats not playing golf..

BORe;But Mr Bush was reading a book on 9/11 correct?
Yes he was but, you see, he couldn’t just leave! he had photo-ops scheduled, important stuffm very…

BORe;And why not? The kids would surely understand how important the Presidency is, and he could have just said, “I have to go because of important business kids”? Parents tell their children this all the time.
But, you see he didn’t know what to do..he he was kinda unfocused and undecisive.umm I think..but but..

BORe;And did Mr Bush react quickly and decisively on 9/11?
Well look, the book was more..see photo ops take precedence

BORe;Oh I see, so Bush taking a 30 day Vacation and not giving the PDB proper scrutiny is in no way way like playing Golf?
Clenis, but Bill was playing Golf, and and..no Golf is not like a vacation, I think,

BORe;But George has more vacation time than any other sitting President?
Yes but but, he he needs, his heart..weak but but, the brush took precedence!!

BORe;Yes, But in a time of war, on America, during a war on Terror wouldn’t you say it’s a bad idea for a President to clear so much brush?
no.,,yes,,I don’t know, War is not planned by George..his advisors,,Tenet did it. Cheney…Wolfowitz..OSP WHIGS they did it..

BORe;So it’s okay for Bush to take a vacation and play golf?
But I didn’t he didn’t clenis golf, Bush clenis was clearing brush and that’s different..see look clenis! George wa he was on vacation..!!

    BORe;I see.
But but that it was he wasn’t they Tenet, but the OSP and Powell said Armitage, but see Plame..

BORe;Thanks for coming in Condi, always a pleasure to have you.
But see vacation Tenet, DIA PDB said red lights flashing and clearing brush mushroom clouds, Yellowcake!!

  78. whattosay Says:

Why do we even listen to the constant lies coming from everyone in this administration. They can’t open their mouth without telling a lile, and their interest in not for the Americans citizen but Corporations, oil company and the wealthy. Instead of debating them on their lies, just continual to show their lies and corruption which they have done through their action and policies. We have to secure our election process, because in the last 6 to 12 years they have seem to pull a different way of stealing and deleting votes in each election.

  79. Shlomo Says:

If Tenet is the real culpirt here, shouldn’t this administration be asking for their medals back?

  80. futureStar Says:

Dr. Rice finds it far too convenient to not remember any relevant facts. How surreal can you get? Memory does serve that Dr. Rice NEVER answers a question directly. She ALWAYS gives up the skewered story of what she wants to tell and ONLY what she wants to tell. And to think that her name is being batted around as a possible candidate for President. It’s a fool’s folly to think this country might be headed by someone of her ilk. The Republican think tank is so distorted and factless its hard to fanthom how low this country has sunk to stay on the Neo-Con, conservative message. Is it possible that bottom feeders and pond scum will continue to rule this nation?

Yes, there were connections between Hussein and bin Laden. Iraq wasn’t the worst place in the world for an al Qaeda operative to be captured, and Norma Desmond made a fabulous comeback in Salome, directed by Mr. Demille. It’s fun being psychotic!

Isn’t it funny how Miss Rice wiggles in her chair answering those nasty questions. It is really NOT nice to make Condi feel soooooo uncomfortable.
Do have some decency for all those lies!

  89. monkfish Says:

I loved how she included the Iraq/Iran war as part of her evidence of Saddam’s threat. Iraq was our ally at that point as a counterweight to Iran.

  90. monkfish Says:

Wallace should have pointed out that, at the time of the iraq invasion, that Iran had ties to terrorists, had chemical and possibly biological weapons, and was had an operating nuclear program. I would like to see Rice explain why we did not invade Iran instead.

  91. cromulant Says:

Is lying of this sort, and complicity on the part of the Chimp and Cheney, an impeachable offense? Is there a law anywhere that clearly cites lying by government officials as grounds for their removal and/or incarceration?

My guess is: No– it’s a lot like the slanderor conspiracy trials–gotta prove intent before the charges (however they are stated) can stick.

So how is intention proven? What does it take to prove a conspiracy or malice aforethought exists? Other than “movies”, I haven’t a genuine clue.

So the conclusion is you have to fight these guys in the press and at the ballot box. But guess what? The press is in bed with the perps and ballot box is fast becoming the private property of corporate ballot stuffers.

You wonder why Condi and others can lie so confidently, so brazenly without breaking a sweat? They are either sociopathic inveterate liars (not known to sweat even when confronted), or they are supremely confident that whatever they say will go unaccounted for.

As we spend a moment recalling what happened five years ago, our leaders want us to let them drift into the realm of legend and myth alongside Davy Crockett and the Alamo as presented by the Disney Corporation. Who better to provide the gauzy dreamlike vision they see of themselves as American heroes defending the whole idea of being an American. Disney is very good at translating fantasy into tangible, marketable products. I expect a whole new line of Condi dolls and Rumsfeld action figures by Christmas—and sequels too.

  95. Kgprophet Says:

Coming in after the bell here but…

What is with Rice and Cheney claiming to not read official intelligence reports!? That is there JOB. It is stupid and irresponsible to go on national TV and and still claim there are connections between Iraq and Al Qaeda, when now it is OFFICIAL that there was none. When you make yourself look stupid on national TV both by lying and not reading important reports that pertain to your job, RESIGN.

    Utterly disgraceful.

  96. Disallusioned Citizen Says:

Why does anyone still listen to these Sunday and other talk show that have Bush, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld on? All that they have to say is lies about lies they already told. I for one turn them completely off, especially Bush. Someone should start up another TV network, like Ted Turner did. If you are looking for honesty and truth, turn off all majjor TV network coverage, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Jim Laer PBS.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean: “There’s no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat to the United States and to our allies. … [I]f Saddam persists in thumbing his nose at the inspectors, then we’re clearly going to have to do something about it.” (CBS’ “Face The Nation,” 9/29/02)

October 9th, 1999 Letter to President Clinton Signed by Senators Levin, Lieberman, Lautenberg, Dodd, Kerrey, Feinstein, Mikulski, Daschle, Breaux, Johnson, Inouye, Landrieu, Ford and Kerry — all Democrats

“We urge you, after consulting with Congress and consistent with the US Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions, including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”

    Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world, and this is a guy who is in every way possible seeking weapons of mass destruction.”

    Chuck Schumer > October 10, 2002
“It is Hussein’s vigorous pursuit of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, and his present and future potential support for terrorist acts and organizations that make him a danger to the people of the united states.”

    John Kerry > January 23, 2003
“Without question we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator leading an impressive regime. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he’s miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. His consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction.”

    Sandy Berger > February 18, 1998
“He’ll use those weapons of mass destruction again as he has 10 times since 1983.”

    Senator Carl Levin > September 19, 2002
“We begin with a common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations, is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.”

    Senator Hillary Clinton > October 10, 2002
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock. His missile delivery capability, his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists including Al-Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”

    Madeleine Albright > November 10, 1999
“Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”

    Robert Byrd > October 3, 2002
“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of ‘98. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons.”

    Al Gore > September 23, 2002
“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter, and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”

    Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“I think he has anthrax. I have not seen any evidence that he has smallpox, but you hear them say, Tim (Russert), is the last smallpox outbreak in the world was in Iraq; ergo, he may have a strain.”

    Bill Clinton > December 17, 1998
“Earlier today, I ordered America’s armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq…. Their mission is to attack Iraq’s nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.”

    Hillary Clinton > October 10, 2002
“In the four years since the inspections, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability and his nuclear program.”

    Dick Gephardt > September 23, 2002
“(I have seen) a large body of intelligence information over a long time that he is working on and has weapons of mass destruction. Before 1991, he was close to a nuclear device. Now, you’ll get a debate about whether it’s one year away or five years away.”

    Russell Feingold > October 9, 2002
“With regard to Iraq, I agree Iraq presents a genuine threat, especially in the form of weapons of mass destruction: chemical, biological and potentially nuclear weapons. I agree that Saddam Hussein is exceptionally dangerous and brutal, if not uniquely so, as the president argues.”

    Johnny Edwards > January 7, 2003
“Serving on the intelligence committee and seeing day after day, week after week, briefings on Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction and his plans on using those weapons, he cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. It’s just that simple. The whole world changes if Saddam ever has nuclear weapons.”

    John Kerry > January 31, 2003
“If you don’t believe…Saddam Hussein is a threat with nuclear weapons, then you shouldn’t vote for me.”

    Bill Nelson > September 14, 2002
“I believe he has chemical and biological weapons. I think he’s trying to develop nuclear weapons, and the fact that he might use those is a considerable threat to us.”

    Al Gore > September 23, 2002
“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”

    Tom Daschle > February 11, 1998
“The (Clinton) administration has said, ‘Look, we have exhausted virtually our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so?’ That’s what they’re saying. This is the key question. And the answer is we don’t have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so militarily.”

    Bill Richardson > May 29, 1998
“The threat of nuclear proliferation is one of the big challenges that we have now, especially by states that have nuclear weapons, outlaw states like Iraq.”

    Hillary Clinton > October 10, 2002
“It is clear, however, that if left unchecked Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capability to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”

    Al Gore > December 16, 1998
“[I]f you allow someone like Saddam Hussein to get nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, chemical weapons, biological weapons, how many people is he going to kill with such weapons? He has already demonstrated a willingness to use such weapons…”

    Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
“If Saddam rejects peace, and we have to use force, our purpose is clear: We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”

    Madeleine Albright > February 1, 1998
“We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and the security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction.”

    Nancy Pelosi > December 16, 1998
“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology, which is a threat to countries in the region, and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”

    Al Gore > September 23, 2002
“We know that he has stored nuclear supplies, secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”

    John Kerry > October 9, 2002
“I will be voting to give the president of the US the authority to use force if necessary to disarm Saddam because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”

    Ted Kennedy > September 27, 2002
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”

    Jay Rockefeller > October 10, 2002
“There was unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years. We also should remember that we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”

    Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“[H]e does have the capacity, as all terrorist-related operations do, of smuggling stuff into the United States and doing something terrible. That is true. But there’s been no connection, hard connection made yet between he and al-Qaida or his willingness or effort to do that thus far. Doesn’t mean he won’t. This is a bad guy.”

    Madeline Albright > February 18, 2002
Iraq is a long way from (here), but what happens there matters a great deal here, for the risk that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest national security threat we face — and it is a threat against which we must and will stand firm.”

    Jane Harman > August 27, 2002
“I certainly think (Hussein’s) developing nuclear capability which, fortunately, the Israelis set back 20 years ago with their preemptive attack which, in hindsight, looks pretty darn good.”

    Dick Durbin > September 30, 1999
“One of the most compelling threats we in this country face today is the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Threat assessments regularly warn us of the possibility that North Korea, Iran, Iraq, or some other nation may acquire or develop nuclear weapons.”

    Bill Nelson > August 25, 2002
“[M]y own personal view is, I think Saddam has chemical and biological weapons, and I expect that he is trying to develop a nuclear weapon. So at some point, we might have to act precipitously.”

    Nancy Pelosi > October 10, 2002
“Yes, he has chemical weapons. Yes, he has biological weapons. He is trying to get nuclear weapons.”

    Evan Bayh > August 4, 2002
“I’m inclined to support going in there and dealing with Saddam, but I think that case needs to be made on a separate basis: his possession of biological and chemical weapons, his desire to get nuclear weapons, his proven track record of attacking his neighbors and others.”

    Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
“We have to defend our future from these predators of the 21st Century…. They will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. We simply cannot allow that to happen. There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein.”

    Hillary Clinton > January 22, 2003
“I voted for the Iraqi resolution. I consider the prospect of a nuclear-armed Saddam Hussein who can threaten not only his neighbors but the stability of the region and the world, a very serious threat to the United States.”

    Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“We know he continues to attempt to gain access to additional capability, including nuclear capability.”

    Johnny Edwards > February 6, 2003
“The question is whether we’re going to allow this man who’s been developing weapons of mass destruction continue to develop weapons of mass destruction, get nuclear capability and get to the place where — if we’re going to stop him if he invades a country around him — it’ll cost millions of lives as opposed to thousands of lives.”

    Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“First of all, we don’t know exactly what he has. It’s been five years since inspectors have been in there, number one. Number two, it is clear that he has residual of chemical weapons and biological weapons, number one.”

    Senator Bob Graham > December 8, 2002
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has and has had for a number of years a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”

    John Kerry > February 23, 1998
“Saddam Hussein has already used these weapons and has made it clear that he has the intent to continue to try, by virtue of his duplicity and secrecy, to continue to do so. That is a threat to the stability of the Middle East. It is a threat with respect to the potential of terrorist activities on a global basis. It is a threat even to regions near but not exactly in the Middle East.”
