But anyway, “safety” and “security” are not the only values that matter. Don’t our Republican friends like to tell us that freedom involves sacrifice? Or, as they like to say, “Freedom isn’t free.” Of course, when they say it, they mean that other people (or other people’s kids) should have to don the uniform, pick up the rifle, and go fight the Taliban, the Iraqis … who knows, maybe the Iranians … while we all sit on our lazy butts and watch crap-u-dramas on ABC.

‘Course, the real point is, freedom entails risks for everyone. You know, criminals sometimes evade punishment because of the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments; people advocate bad, even harmful ideas (think Iraq War), or get to put lying, deceptive garbage on a major television network, all on account o’ th’ 1st Amendment. But that’s the price we pay to live in a free society.

So riddle me this, oh wise conservatives: If we expect our men and women in the military to risk life and limb to bring freedom and liberty to the Iraqis, and we expect the Iraqis to die by the tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands to enjoy freedom and liberty (“It’s worth th’ sacrifice,” th’ President sez) … why are we Americans supposed to be so willing to give up our freedoms and liberties in the name of “safety” and “security”?

I would like to know, plunger, on what you base your assertion that the next false flag attack will be nuclear. Is that a guess?

If Ben were to look at the world without blindly accepting the pre-spinning provided by the neo-cons then maybe he’d realize that the Republicans are now the “borrow and squander”, pro-big-government, anti-American Constitution party of the new century.
