MSNBC fires Eric Alterman.

Read Eric’s take here, then stop by his new home at Media Matters.

  1. Jay Randal says:

ABC needs to fire everybody, and their CEO for foisting propaganda onto Americans, then trying to claim the phony docu-drama is factual!

  2. Cheney/Voldemort 2008 Campaign HQ says:

Well, Jay, they should also go after the entire editorial organization that allowed for that travesty to happen.

But back to the point of this thread, it’s a good thing Eric Alterman found a home so quickly, and it was a big ol’ mistake by MSNBC to get rid of him. When they de-Bushtard their current line-up, whom are they going to put on the air except for Keith Olberman?

  3. Badmoodman says:

Frankly, I’m surprised Keith Olbermann still has a job at MSNBC, no matter how high his ratings get.

  4. Marty Didier says:

Eric Alterman’s efforts are greatly appreciated. I’m sure there will be many more unfortunately because the problem we face is enormously huge and has been around for decades. I would expect by now that everyone has some idea of what this bigger problem is.

  5. Danton says:

#3, don’t you suspect Olbermann may be next in line at the chopping block? I certainly do.

  6. katy says:

marty! where’ve you been? i thought they offed you, man…
or are you the same? i see you’re spelling that last name different…

back OT – whenever i hear eric on al’s show and read his work, i always appreciated that msnbc “allowed” those ideas and opinions… so, now it’s pretty well shown that GE is not concerned with public debate, much less truthtelling…
i fear that olberman may be next… except that tv ratings may be more important than dot-com ratings…

  7. Grey Eagle says:

It would be a tragedy if Olbermann is forced out at MSNBC . He is the only courageous sane person there . Russet has sold out long ago . Hard Ball is a blabber mouth who speaks with the wind of the day .

  8. BearCountry says:

I’m sure that many will do as I am doing, and change their home page to some place more in tune with our outlook. I think that as the heat gets to be too much for those who are trying to shore up W’s abysmal poll numbers, voices of truth will be attacked harder and harder. Look for another effort to end net neutrality as quickly as possible. Fascism does not become the rule all at once in a country. There have to be triggers (often manufactured) and a rallying of the population. Isolating the intellectual opposition leaders is also a requirement. We have to be on guard and work hard to prevent our current slide.

  9. tablogloid says:

Perhaps the ratings would have been better if they had just changed the title to: “The Path-illogical lie to 9/11″
No re-edits, no disclaimer or clarifications needed. It would have been a win/win situation.

  10. dudeson says:

Well, Well, Alterman, Donahue and anyone else who speaks truth to power are soon off the airwaves. Isn’t this the equivelent of book burning in Nazi Germany prior to ww two. Where are the leaders who say enough is enough?. We need to take back the propaganda channels “the air belongs to us” and return this country to leaders who think peace through interaction with the world rather than war for profit. Where are the Martin Luthers who said that the church is not a political organization?. How does that song go? “You can’t love God if you don’t love your neighbor”.

  11. JFH says:

#10 Dudeson, I think the current theme is more like “We can’t repress our nation, if we don’t repress our dissenters.” (Except for the village idiot who can be villified and paraded when called upon.)

  12. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

MSNBC owned by General Electric…huh. I never knew GE was liberal.

Labour campaigners accuse Disney of using sweatshop factories

    Deutsche Presse Agentur
    Published: Sunday September 10, 2006

Hong Kong- Labour rights campaigners have protested outside Hong Kong’s Disney theme park accusing Disney of using sweatshop factories in China, a news report said Monday. Workers at three factories making Disney merchandise in China’s southern Guangdong province are being paid below the minimum wage and forced to work up to 14 hours a day, according to the protestors.

A report by the Hong Kong-based Students and Scholars Against Corporate Misbehaviour based on interviews with 50 workers claimed they were paid an hourly wage of 2.19 to 3.14 yuan (27 to 42 US cents) instead of the legal minimum of more than 4 yuan (50 US cents.

Naw Americans don’t wan’t those jobs..are you kidding? What American can afford to work for those wages?

Disney only needs Americans to buy their souvenirs and enjoy the ride. That is until they can’t afford to go to Disney World.

And if our congress, backed by big business lobbyists has their way your wages would be so low that you couldn’t afford to go to Disney World..

Seems, to me, that our congress and corporate America are self serving while also being self-defeating.

WOW. How is that, disparity, ever gonna work?

  13. Zooey says:

Alterman won’t even miss a beat when he moves over to media Matters. I, for one, will simply follow him there.

Keith Olbermann kicked ass on his show tonight. Ya’ll may be right about him being next, but until then he’ll keep doing what he does best, speaking truth to power…

…and waggling those eyebrows, man that’s cute.

  14. Marie says:

I am sorry to hear that – I usually read Altercation. But then I usually check in with MM as well, so Alterman will still be one of my bookmarks.
I don’t know what kind of spasms are going on with the networks. I do know that the corporate ownership is NOT a good thing, and truth is not a priority. (There’s little $$ in it.)
I have been waiting for Olbermann to get the hook, but his ratings are climbing and that would really be foolish on the part of MSNBC.

  15. Baldrick says:

Alterman suspects tighter control over content may have played a factor. If so, K.O. should be gone by the end of the week.
