Hastert Too Busy To Commemorate September 11 Until September 13»

HastertYesterday was the five-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, but House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert had other priorities. According to a report in CongressDaily, he wasn’t able to schedule a vote “on a resolution to commemorate the day” until September 13.

Meanwhile, the House will have time today to consider:

– A bill to revise the boundaries of John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System Jekyll Island Unit

– The Lake Mattamuskeet Lodge Preservation Act

– A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 40 South Walnut Street in Chillicothe, Ohio, as the “Larry Cox Post Office.”

Moreover, Hastert has packed the 9/11 resolution with partisan rhetoric:

[The resolution includes] language stating that “the nation is safer than it was back in Sept. 11, 2001,” along with five paragraphs of language referencing a host of measures approved by Congress and signed into law by President Bush since the attacks, including the controversial USA PATRIOT Act…

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has twice written Hastert requesting the resolution not be politicized; she recommended using a resolution modeled after last year’s version, which did not include references to specific bills. But a Hastert spokesman said yesterday “the GOP leadership was not negotiating and that the measure would remain as written.”

Digg It!

Why oh why do they have to be such d*%kheads. What does it prove? That they want to be forever known as d*%kheads?

  2. RealScientist Says:

Well, this pathetic loser’s days as House speaker are numbered.

  3. bluefish Says:

I think I speak for all Americans when I say, thank God Congress is finally getting around to naming the Larry Cox Post Office. I know that I’ve been calling it that for years, but it’s nice now that it’s official.

Imagine, a member of the GOP politicizing 9/11. Who’da thunk it?

  4. po Says:

What if you had a vote on a totally partisan resolution and the minority opposition didn’t show up to vote? The d*9%kheads will still be able to play, but we can keep our dignity intact through silence. The sad day has passed, I urge Democratic representatives to skip the vote and go hold a press conference instead.

  5. Tim Says:

Judd, you may want to make a note that the National Journal Congress Daily requires a subscription. Thanks.

  6. DallasNE Says:

Well, if we are going to leave things as written, why not chew on this for awhile.

It makes for far more interesting reading than Hassert’s drivel.

  7. Jay Randal Says:

Fat Hastert can resign from the House of Representatives! He is a worthless tub of lard > lol.

  8. jason kennedy Says:

it’s just the constant drip-drip-drip of rewriting history, shaping opinion, and the force of blind habit after much too many years of a Bush administration. no doubt anybody who complains about Mr Hastert is “giving succour to terrorists the world over, including those yet to be born (who are especially dangerous, as we do not know yet who they are…)”

  9. TripMaster Monkey Says:

What a completely reprehensible person…exactly what we’ve come to expect from the right.

A goose hunting lodge at one time.

Really pathetic Mr Hastert to use those that died on 9/11 for a goose hunting lodge..your a heartless man Mr Hastert..

I do so hope you enjoy your trip unto hell.

I can see it already. In November….

If a democrat votes against it… “Representative [Whomever] voted AGAINST the commemeration! How could he/she?”

If a democrat votes for it… “Representative [Whomever] agrees we are safer now under President Bush!”

Standard “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” Republican entrapment.

  13. Sharon Cox Says:

Just more crap from another bloated faced, no neck neo-con..Walk out Dem’s and start screaming and yelling at all the reich winged bs ajenda’s…..Blessings

  14. Trinary Suka Says:

The Mattamuskeet Lodge was constructed in 1915 at a cost of $205,000. It was designed to house a series of massive pumps to drain Lake Mattamuskeet so that the dry lake bed could be utilized for farming operations. This effort was unsuccessful because of the economy, weather and an unreliable pumping system. When the Federal Government acquired this property, members of the Civilian Conservation Corps removed the pumps and converted the building into a hunting lodge.
    ==
I’m gonna speculate here that pombo and hastert really want to turn this into a farm. The Lodge is not so much a lodge as it is a pumping station to drain the shallow lake…

  15. jason baddo Says:

Hastert is the poster-boy for what’s truly wrong with America today. A bi-partisan hack and a bad one at that. This individual does not belong in politics. The good people of Illinois keep re-electing this empty suit becasuse he brings home the pork.

  16. Trinary Suka Says:

If a democrat votes against it… “Representative [Whomever] voted AGAINST the commemeration! How could he/she?”
    ==
Naw, the porkbarrel fat little to nothing to do with a 9/11 ‘commemoration’ and a vote against it would be for this reason, among others not pertaining to 9/11 but to business interests.

Mr Hastert and Mr Pombo are despicable humans using the death of 3,000 americans as the means to their ends. Heartless and souless men.

I disagree here]]

In a two-party system (such as in the United States), *bipartisan refers to any bill, act, resolution, or any other action of a political body in which both of the major political parties are in agreement.

*House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has twice written Hastert requesting the resolution not be politicized;[They do not seem to be in agreement]

You make some very convoluted statements Jason Baddo, please restate your view in a way thats not so ‘twisted’ thxx. [Or should I say Jason Hendler or Coach Jason?]

Hes calling it Bi-partisan when it clearly isn’t.

I asked him to clarify his position, and yes Jason is a common name and so are trolls. But I see only one KATY and not 10 different Katy’s posting..nor do I see 10 different Maries, another common name nor 10 different Sharons…

i saw a part of it, I turned it off when Matthews asked Brokaw if Bush had lied us into a war and Brokaw answered politically correctly instead of being direct, nasty, and full of vengful spite.

  32. Cyra Brown Says:

Resolutions are not laws. They are statements, with no legal standing. Purely symbolic. And in this instance, Hastert is just trying to get the Republicans some ‘positive’ spin, because they really need it. This is so obviously a political ploy. Why? Because it only took Denny 5 YEARS to come up with this… ‘heartfelt dedication’, and he STILL couldn’t be bothered to do it on the DAY ITSELF!! What an arse. And never one to miss an opportunity, Denny decides to tack on some ‘atta boys’ while he’s at it.

  33. vigilant Says:

Thank God Almighty that Denny is getting back to work . .

The good people of Illinois keep re-electing this empty suit becasuse he brings home the pork.

Fat Boy keeps getting re-elected because the Republican machine, the newspapers, and most election officials everywhere except in Chicago are Republican; and like the White House, they control the elections.
Of course pork plays a role - and Hastert has been found at the trough many a time, but politics is mostly the “good old boys” here in Illinois.
The Dem. Gov. was elected because the former guy was indicted and will begin his jail term soon - but that has not stopped the Republican noise machine from loudly criticizing the gov. while turning a blind eye to whom they have supported.
Hastert’s opponent, Laesch, is an Iraq vet, a nice guy who wants to make a difference - I support him, but I am not overly hopeful.

  45. Marie Says:

    K. Olbermann just ran a video of Hastert flubbing the words of the national anthem - he couldn’t even get the first phrase right!!

  46. stupid Git Says:

That’s one of the dumbest bills I’ve ever heard of. They ratify it every year? And Pelosi wants it to be non-politicized? The whole resolution is political bullsh!t.

  47. Zooey Says:

Why don’t they do something useful?

  48. mary Says:

How sad that Haster does not know the words to the Star Spangled Banner! How sad that we are governed by people who want to hurt other people. How sad that we see the war as a horrible crime against huminit; Cheny would say I WOULD DO THE SAME TODAY. HOW SAD, HOW SAD! CAOS MUST BE WHAT THEY WANT!
