Furious over Sacha Baron Cohen’s (aka Ali G) portrayal of Borat, a fictional bumbling Kazakh TV presenter, Kazakhstan’s president plans to bring up the episode with President Bush when he visits the United States this month. “The bottom line is we want people to know that he does not represent the true people of Kazakhstan,” said a spokesman for the Kazakhstan embassy.
Jagshemash!
September 13th, 2006 at 1:12 pm“The bottom line is we want people to know that he does not represent the true people of Kazakhstan,†said a spokesman for the Kazakhstan embassy.
I hope our embassy puts out the same statement about bush not representing the true people of America.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:12 pm“I hope our embassy puts out the same statement about bush not representing the true people of America.”
LOL, exactly.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:16 pm#2 – Bullseye.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:19 pmIsn’t Sasha British? Why does this need to be discussed here? That’s so stupid.
Even if he was American what the hell can Bush do about it. Despite his best efforts we’re still a free country.
After this whole thing I think the President of Kazakhstan is proving Sasha is on to something in his depictions.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:21 pmHa!
I thought that the character of Borat was from a fictional country. I think Kazakhstan needs to start their PR campaign by letting people know that Kazakhstan is a real country, then move on to trying to let people know what the true citizens are like.
I also think that there are much more preesing matters for the president of our country to address than a fictional character that makes fun of the types of people that Bush likes to bomb.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:21 pmLOL
SpudgeBoy is correct (again)
Does everyone who watches Ali G know that Kazakhstan is a country?
Jeez, will we now have to worry that Bush&Co (via the FCC) will shut down Comedy Central?
Ali G and his characters are not presented as “factual” nor as a docu-drama; they are presented as comedy!
This is just so ridiculous – but perhaps the flap that may occur will bring more viewers to the comedy channel, where many of us take respite from the usual TV fare.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:00 pmYou mean Boris & Natasha weren’t really from Mother Russia?
Big trouble for Moose & Squirrel!
xxxjimmy
September 13th, 2006 at 2:03 pmI think they have messed up here. It seems that Bushco though that Kazakstan was a fictional country. Now they have heard of another place to bomb.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:31 pmSeveral months ago, the government of Kazakstan also threatened to sue Cohen to get him to stop his performances.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:34 pmNot to mention that The Ali G show is on HBO a paid subscription service. It is not aired over the public airwaves.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:41 pm[W]ill we now have to worry that Bush&Co (via the FCC) will shut down Comedy Central?
Unlikely, since among other things, the FCC doesn’t have any power over cable. And I would add that it’s pretty unlikely that the FCC would try to shut down any network anyway (though it does do the whole obscenity fining thing), but then again the Senate Democrats came close to threatening to do that to ABC over that ridiculous docu-drama.
Kazakhstan has been incredibly upset about this for some time. It’s pretty darn stupid on their part, I agree, but certainly it doesn’t hurt to receive the guy. It is part of diplomacy and foreign policy. Especially since the US has bases in neighboring Kyrgyzstan and once had one in Uzbekistan, and negotiated for a while to have one in Kazakhstan. And considering that Kazakhstan has large oil reserves and is a member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
Kazakhstan *is* an important country in foreign policy, and if they’re pretty offended then listening to their complaints and hosting them for a conference seems reasonable. But apparently people who don’t know that Kazakhstan is a real country will find any reason to think Bush is stupid and attack him, even when they can attack him for being too diplomatic.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:44 pmhe seems to cover a lot of territory … some videos from jesus’general:

hilarious…
September 13th, 2006 at 2:53 pm…
So does this mean that they don’t really “beat the gypsies” and shoot dogs for sport? I find that highly unlikely.
September 13th, 2006 at 3:22 pm– #12
oh, man. Too diplomatic!! that’s a good one!! LOL
September 13th, 2006 at 3:29 pm#9 Chris H.
That is too funny.
September 13th, 2006 at 3:45 pmBut in W’s case, it is very likely true.
Fiction is Truth and Truth is Fiction.
This is double ungood.
September 13th, 2006 at 4:02 pmI wonder if bush’s visit has anything to do with the oil pipeline that they built to pump oil to China. Maybe dubious george went there to trade Ali G’s head for them to stop sending oil to China. Or maybe he promised that this “free speech thing” will be over soon in ‘Merka. He has plans and the last part of those plans is to use that “stupid piece of paper” (aka. The Constitution) as some kindling to burn some brush he cleared. But then maybe he’s being “too diplomatic”……hahaha. That is a rich one Thacker.
September 13th, 2006 at 4:07 pmYou have to remember, bush is only interested in countries that have oil.
September 13th, 2006 at 4:09 pmI’ve seen that Borat character before. It’s obvious that it’s a routine. Anyone who thinks it’s real, is too stupid to survive long…
September 13th, 2006 at 4:30 pmSoooo… now bush is being “too diplomatic”? Because he is addressing a non-issue with a country that is not America while avoiding almost every issue we face that cannot be classified under the War On Terror banner?
Thacker, you should be ashamed of yourself. I hope you’re getting paid well to hate America.
September 13th, 2006 at 4:40 pmWell there goes my entire belief system. I totally thought that Borat spoke for the Kazakh people. This is really a shock.
September 13th, 2006 at 4:52 pmAmerica’s Least Wanted
There you go again, making fun of one of our allies. If we get attacked again it will be your fault. 9/11 9/11
September 13th, 2006 at 5:15 pmThat’s funny. Thus dude from Kazakhstan is obviously a little sheltered. Hey, Ali G is at least informing people that the country exists b/c its so little known. Ali G is hilarious and so is his character, Borat.
September 13th, 2006 at 5:15 pmWhat in blue blazes is Borat? aWol is turning the country into a christianist state and you are worried about a cartoon char?
September 13th, 2006 at 5:17 pmTrue, American’s voted for Bush. But American’s are not THAT stupid not to know that Ali G is just fun and games.
September 13th, 2006 at 5:22 pmAnyone who thinks it’s real, is too stupid to survive long…
Oh…wait…you’re not talking about Kazakhstan? Maybe instead of Kazakhstan going on a PR campaign, people who discuss them should find out if they exist first.
When you’re going to criticize him for his discussion with a foreign leader, it may behoove you to know if that country even exists…
Just a heads up.
September 13th, 2006 at 5:29 pmhe’s a comedian. he’s a british wannabe rapper mainly who interviews politicians and stuff. he’s iinterviewed some pretty famous people too. they’re skits. he makes fun of everybody, but i think he’s fairly clean and safe compared to say, chapelle.
September 13th, 2006 at 5:34 pmSacha Cohen is a genius! He’s actually got a full-length movie coming out (pretty soon) in the character of Borat.
A lot of his humor as this character is based on an exxagerated version of “Anti-Semetism”, but what is also little know is that Sacha is actually himself a Jew.
September 13th, 2006 at 6:14 pmWell, I guess that we aren’t the only country with insane morons in charge.
September 13th, 2006 at 6:14 pmIs this guy kidding? Would he rather we put the spotlight on what Kazakhstan actually stands for? I tell you, it sure isn’t human rights or democracy.
September 13th, 2006 at 7:32 pmJak Sie Masz!
September 13th, 2006 at 8:36 pmYour country I like…blogs happy fun sexy time, better than Kazakhstan. President Bush meet my sister she like you. My sister has blog, she #2 prostitute for sex in mouth. You like? She have goat named George she like you so much. Very nice….
September 13th, 2006 at 10:26 pm“The bottom line is we want people to know that Anne Coulter does not represent the true people of America,†said a spokesman for the American embassy.
September 13th, 2006 at 11:42 pmNative Kazakhs, a mix of Turkic and Mongol nomadic tribes who migrated into the region in the 13th century, were rarely united as a single nation. The area was conquered by Russia in the 18th century, and Kazakhstan became a Soviet Republic in 1936. During the 1950s and 1960s agricultural “Virgin Lands” program, Soviet citizens were encouraged to help cultivate Kazakhstan’s northern pastures. This influx of immigrants (mostly Russians, but also some other deported nationalities) skewed the ethnic mixture and enabled non-Kazakhs to outnumber natives.
Well Turko Mongols [uncle Togarmah] Bush will probably like, but he may care much for those durn commies cuz if theres one thing a GOP hates worse than those “islamofascists” ts those durn commie
/snarkon
September 13th, 2006 at 11:50 pm(Who heard of Kazakhstan before Borat appeared as one of the characters in the Ali G show? I had to look at my atlas.) It’s not as if they’re getting bombed, tortured, murdered and raped as this adminstration happens to be doing in another “stan.” The whole flap is really absurdistan.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:14 amThis movie is not on HBO, it’s in theaters, where it will reach a bigger audience. I FRIGGIN LOVE BORAT. Hilarious.
September 14th, 2006 at 11:01 amI think they have messed up here. It seems that Bushco though that Kazakstan was a fictional country. Now they have heard of another place to bomb. >(#9)
The reason Bush & Co are involved is because Kazakhstan has the one thing they realy want; OIL.
Since the fall of USSR, many US and British companies have invested billions in Azerbaijan, Kazakhestan, Kyrghizstan (it is a real country) and other places in the Russian south-east, including the Caspian Sea in search of what they believe is the largest untapped oil filed in the world.
With Bush & Co it is all about OIL.
September 14th, 2006 at 12:46 pmHe uses Borat in more of a way of provoking some reaction out of the people he’s talking to, especially redneck america. Well actually, he uses all of his characters in that way.
September 14th, 2006 at 12:51 pmbush is in everything who cares freedom to speak stop trying to control people bush is leading to the antichrist world full of control no freedom people acting like robots it time for people to have a real voice, bush and oil that the only reason why. Itz all about texans, if you understand that last point your losted just watch a clint eastwood movie and you get what I mean.
