Officials of the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency “angrily complained to the Bush administration and to a Republican congressman yesterday about a recent House committee report on Iran’s capabilities, calling parts of the document ‘outrageous and dishonest‘ and offering evidence to refute its central claims.”
A new paper by a NASA climate scientist finds “the amount of ice being formed in the Arctic winter has declined sharply in the past two years.” The scientist called the new data from satellite imaging of ice formation and temperatures “the strongest evidence of global warming in the Arctic so far.”
74.5 degrees: The average temperature in the continental U.S. this summer, according to the National Climatic Data Center. “It was the second-hottest summer temperature the government has recorded since it started keeping track in 1895.”
Yesterday, a “nearly toothless” House resolution to require lawmakers to sign their names to earmarks became “bogged down” in a “three-way squabble.” “Nine months after Congressional leaders vowed to respond to several bribery scandals with comprehensive reforms, their pledges have come to next to nothing.”
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) said Tuesday “his recent trip to the Guantanamo Bay detainee camp showed excellent prison conditions, including ‘24/7 medical care – better than many Americans’ get.”
Bush’s approval rating rose to 42% from 38% after his latest round of speeches on Iraq, a new WSJ/NBC News poll shows.
In the latest wave of violence in Iraq, “nearly 100 people were killed or found dead in the Iraqi capital over the past 24 hours.” During a tour of a 911 call facility in Baghdad, ABC News reported hearing 4,000 calls about the “chaos outside in the streets.”
Yesterday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice kicked off “a lobbying campaign” to pressure the Senate to approve U.N. ambassador John Bolton. Bolton’s nomination remains in jeopardy after Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee (R-RI) pushed to delay the vote.
A rush by state and local governments to prepare new voting machines and train poll workers is raising the possibility of trouble reminiscent of the 2000 presidential election standoff. “There are so many potential failure points this year that some of it could get ugly,” says R. Doug Lewis, executive director of the Election Center.
And finally: Last night’s results from “Dancing with the Stars” sent Tucker Carlson “back to punditry” after only one “dance.” Tucker “became the first bootee, and after a brief last dance, he was finished, sent home with his bow tie, though he vowed to dance again. The world may have shuddered at the thought, but at least it is safe from his performances for the rest of the season.”
What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.
Re: House Intel Cmte.’s trumped up Iran report.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:17 amSigh, same cast of characters, “One-Percent Solution” types.
It is like these guys are physically unable just to PLAY IT STRAIGHT! I read the Fleitz-written report and they even tried to fiddle around with the maps, THE MAPS, to make things look more dangerous than they are! They must know, especially after the Iraq fiasco, they are going to be found out. Yet they act as if they don’t know that. It’s really odd. It just makes it harder to prove to the rest of the Sec. Council and the world that we are credible which, in turn, makes it harder to garner support when a real threat emerges.
Tucker Carlson can dance as well as he can argu politics!
“Follow the footsteps painted on the floor” may work when you’re trying to support the failures of the elected republicans and the neo-cons, but it doesn’t work when you have to use talent (that he obviously doens’t have!).
By the way, I guess Jason M. Hendler has “cut & run” from my challenge that he call for the broadcast of the Pres. Reagan docu-drama. He’s more than happy to support a docu-drama if it’s anti-Democrat.
Double standards, thy name is Jason M. Hendler!
September 14th, 2006 at 9:24 amSenate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) said Tuesday “his recent trip to the Guantanamo Bay detainee camp showed excellent prison conditions, including ‘24/7 medical care – better than many Americans’ get.â€
So the Repugs are collding the terrorists and they like them more than average Americans since they give them better health care. Couldn’t have said it better myself why Frist and his ilk are bad for the average American family. By the way, was this a video guide through Gitmo made especially for Frist? He sure do love them videos.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:24 amUm that should be “coddling” in #3. Geez, I need a coffee.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:29 amIt looks like the only republican talking point for the upcoming election is the dems are weak on security. It may be a long hard road for the rapid right soon.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:39 amThis sounds like the “path to Iraq” reredux.

1. Bill Frist being a doctor gives me the same confidence that Harland Sanders does in being a Colonel.
2. Invasive surgery without patient consent does not qualify as medical care.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:51 amcalling parts of the document ‘outrageous and dishonest‘
The Bush Admin…..dishonest??? I’m SHOCKED.
And this:
including ‘24/7 medical care – better than many Americans’ get.â€
Is this supposed to make Americans feel better??? What kind of dumbass says this???
September 14th, 2006 at 9:56 amMaybe Frist is one of those who was a textbook student who did well on tests, abstracts, and other more studious tasks – but compared to a human being with common sense, he is a failure – a moron.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:00 amHe would do well to go back to the OR where he can hide under a mask.

September 14th, 2006 at 10:04 amOfftopic, but it has to be said:
Earlier, I attempted to post from my home IP, only to find that any post I attempted tripped the spam filter, regardless of content.
Over an hour has passed, and the ‘offensive’ post still has not been cleared by TP.
A few days ago, I asked if the ’spam filter’ was just a clever euphemism for a siteban, but (predictably) received no response…so I’m asking again.
TP, if you have a problem with some of my posts, be adult enough to say so (and preferably explain what you found so unacceptable). If you wish to ban me from your site, again, again, be adult enough to say so, rather than hiding behind a ’spam filter’.
I await your response.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:06 amGood point tblmkr. I doubt any of the MSM will pick up on it. Just checked over on RedState and Frist’s numbers are lower than McCain’s (and McCain is in single digit’s). The good Doctor has no chance at the republican nomination.

September 14th, 2006 at 10:19 amI question whether you should take it personally – there are many of us who have much trouble getting posted here due to their spam filter.
Note all the comments about it, including ones that are just the word “test.”
I find I have to sign off and on my browser several times and then maybe I can get past it. Try writing an Email and ask them to help.
Isn’t a doctor really needed 24/7 since they’re torturing people?
September 14th, 2006 at 10:26 amBig Bully Frist couldn’t be happier to have his HCA provide the probes and tongue depressors needed to extort the administrations propangda from the Gitmo boys. And at the prices paid for these so called medical appliances, his company may rival exxon for outlandish profits this year.

I wouldn’t be too proud of that, Sen Frist, because so many Americans can’t get decent health care, and given that you were in a prison where torture is taking place.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:37 amYesterday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice kicked off “a lobbying campaign†to pressure the Senate to approve U.N. ambassador John Bolton. Bolton’s nomination remains in jeopardy after Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee (R-RI) pushed to delay the vote.

September 14th, 2006 at 10:43 amIt must really piss her off that a moderate Republican is jamming this up.
I hope she doesn’t direct the military to test their microwave gun on him!
Zooey, rice is married.?..I didn’t know that or are you refering to the rumor she is bull shit bush’s second common law wife right after Laura and myer’s..LOL..Blessings
September 14th, 2006 at 10:54 amIn my way of thinking “excellent prison conditions” is a contradiction in terms. The silly bastard obviously was on the wrong side of the wall. Frist and the rest of bushco should be on the inside looking out before they start evaluating prison conditions. But I guess it is all relative. Speaking of same there are a bunch of bushco relatives that should be sharing the “excellent” accomodations.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:54 amBolton’s nomination remains in jeopardy after Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee (R-RI) pushed to delay the vote.
hopefully chafee will remain steadfast and resolute after his victory in yesterday’s primary… maybe even bring more with him? …ya think?
September 14th, 2006 at 10:57 am…
found this on my google news homepage:
Hezbollah accused of war crimes
Amnesty said the rocket attacks were deliberate and indiscriminate
Amnesty International has accused Hezbollah of acts amounting to war crimes in the conflict with Israel.
It says the Lebanese militant group deliberately targeted civilians with rockets in the 34-day war – a “serious violation of humanitarian law”.
Amnesty has already accused Israel of committing war crimes by targeting Lebanon’s civilian infrastructure and is urging a UN inquiry into violations.
Hezbollah rejected the report, calling it a result of US and Israeli pressure.
…
…all war is a crime, damnit…
September 14th, 2006 at 11:00 am…
Perhaps someone can straighten out my thinking here:
September 14th, 2006 at 11:10 amYesterday an unmanned drone revealed a Taliban (?) funeral or other such gathering. A message was transmitted, but our military refused to take action because it was against the somewhat arcane rules of engagement (civilians were present).
Isn’t this exactly the sort of thing they vilified Clinton for?
But on the other hand…
If they didn’t take out this group because the R of E were prohibitive, are they making a case that we need to eliminate the rules of conduct or the “terrorists will win”?
Is this going to be a case of their having it both ways?
Trip M.M. It isn’t just you…..This mess started for me over 4 week’s ago…First I was blocked out totaly, could not get the TP. blog to load at all…Sent many emails and never did get an answer….Thought I was banned, maybe I was…Then after a week of that have had numerious problem’s posting, lost posts and still have to go back to the front page with every reading or posting….The good thing is the posting box was moved up this morning….That’s an improvement…Now if we could go back to the way it was over a month ago it would be nice…..Most day’s it is more trouble than it is worth, note I am not here as much any more and if it doesn’t improve soon I won’t be here at all……..
Another great post Clyde….I agree…Blessings all.
September 14th, 2006 at 11:13 amAny more “Exclusives”? After the err amirika “exclusive” I had a flashback to sad bradbelch exclusive. is he working here now? Maybe err amirika just wanted all you mooks to join their “exclusive” paid membership. It has to be exclusive because apparently they are signing too many people up.
September 14th, 2006 at 11:18 amWhy does the Congress hate Americans?
If they give “terrorists” better health care than 46 million Americans who have none, isnt’ that wrong?
Just asking
September 14th, 2006 at 11:23 amSharon,
The issue I have is that if I try to post from my home IP address (which is where I do the majority of my posting), every post, regardless of content, trips the spam filter. The posts then either are posted much later, or not at all, apparently according to TP’s whim. However, the same posts, posted through my work IP, go through just fine.
Case in point: I just tried to post this via my home IP, and was stopped by the ’spam filter’. Attempting to post it via my work IP, however, was quite successful, as you can see (you wouldn’t be reading this otherwise). Obviously, the ’spam filter’ is flagging everything that comes from my home IP. This is a siteban in all but name.
And, predictably, I still have received no response to my questions.
Most day’s it is more trouble than it is worth, note I am not here as much any more and if it doesn’t improve soon I won’t be here at all……
If that does come to pass, Sharon, please let us know where you are going, so we can continue to share thoughts and ideas.

September 14th, 2006 at 11:41 amAt this point in time it is pretty well known that the white house operates under the principle that if there is a 1% chance of something happening then they must act on it…or so they say. Lets take Iraq for instance. They believed that there was a 1% or better chance that Sadaam wanted to arm terrorists to attack the US. Of course now we know that this 1% existed only in their minds. But what I want to know is what actions do they take on the other 99% of the possibilities out there? Or are they frozen on those possibilities? That would be extremely sad, and reckless if the administrations actions were befuddlement and inaction on situations where the probability is that the particular situation is more than likely to occur.
September 14th, 2006 at 11:44 am#34 Mark
See my post, #1. Trying to elicit some discussion on this topic…
September 14th, 2006 at 11:50 amTMM, Sharon,
As strange as it may seem I am having less trouble now than over the last 2-3 months. I, too, thought I was banned and got no response from TP but later located the problem in my own equipment. I have a local WiFi that feeds a DSL modem and four computers. I found that by rebooting the WiFi and DSL when I cannot connect solves the problem. May be irrelevant but worth a moment to check.

International Atomic Energy Agency “angrily complained to the Bush administration and to a Republican congressman yesterday about a recent House committee report on Iran’s capabilities, calling parts of the document ‘outrageous and dishonest‘ and offering evidence to refute its central claims.â€
You mean BushCo and its repukelican enablers in Congress are faking intelligence about a middle eastern government’s weapons capabilities, simply to make a case for increased UN sanctions as a predicate to a US invasion? Say it isn’t so!!!
/off sarcasm
September 14th, 2006 at 11:54 am#34
Mark,
You forgot the caveat. They will take action on the 1% if that is what they want to do: their justification. The other 99% doesn’t count because there is no way they are going to act responsibly. Actually it is a no-brainer, what could be more fitting of bushco, because they always have their 32% brain-dead (I guess “no-brainer” and “brain-dead” are redundant) sycophants to give them a 31% cushion to justify their actions or inaction.
September 14th, 2006 at 12:01 pmThank You, Trip M.M., I agree it is a nightmare, I never did get an answer either, let us all know if you do…..
I’m going to hit the street’s on the front line as it were….Will be marching with any and all like minded lib’s for the good of our country…If I get zapped so be it, nothing ventured nothing gained…The time for sitting on my butt and getting more round assed is past…..Spent the summer making sign’s and went to a couple of local event’s now I will seek out more….Also spent a lot of time talking to people and wakeing them up to what’s realy going on, encouraged some to check out diffrent site’s and got lot’s of the poor working class to sign up to vote….Meet lot’s of the poor and middle class fishing to eat so that has been a bonus for me to try and get the word out….
The up side down flag up date is 9 who noticed to over 200 who didn’t respond….I will meet you all on the marching lines, I hope. We must do what ever it takes to get our country back……Blessings all…..Peace, for the children of the world…
September 14th, 2006 at 12:03 pmI am so glad that the IAEA is confronting BushCo’s blatant attempt to make Iran look just like they said Iraq looked, right before we attacked them. I could not understand (still can’t) how the House Intelligence Committee had discovered so much more about what is occuring in Iran than our intelligence agencies were able to learn. I would like to hear how they managed that. But BushCo is now known to be incredibly dishonest about everything, so it will be ALOT harder to make their sh*t float this time, thank goodness.
September 14th, 2006 at 12:15 pmClyde, that’s where I looked first, my iMac…Went through all the system’s and my book’s, learned a lot, cleaned up everything. Never had a bit of problem with the other site’s I viset and was still having the problem’s with TP….Then removed my name from the site’s on TP and re applied and signed up….All that took more than a week…Finelly some of the site started to come back…..Never did hear from Judd or the TP staff if I was banned for wrong doeing or not…Lately, past 3 week’s it has been a chore to post and many times it just doesn’t work at all, gett stupid error stuff, takes as much as a half hour for the post to show up sometimes and lot’s of times I just give up and go to truth out , oped and others to get the latest new’s…..Patience are wearing thin with the problem’s…….My computer is having a terrible time loading and wading through this site now and not any others, if not fixed real soon I will leave…….Blessings all..
September 14th, 2006 at 12:30 pmBush’s approval rating rose to 42% from 38%
