This is typical of the left. Blame Bush for anything bad that happens anywhere in the US. Yep, Bush tax cuts killed the kids in that Amish school. Why wasn’t Clinton blamed for Columbine? Did anyone even make that huge leap? Of course not because it is idiotic. But what can you expect from a party that uses forged documents (AWOL Memo) a proven liar (Joe Wilson) and unproven allegations (Bush Cocaine use) to attack a man they hate simply because he beat the heir apparent to Clinton’s “camelot” Al Gore in 2000

So keep up the idiotic accusations against Bush libs because the voters are listening.

The spending that drives the outlook is primarily spending on the large federal entitlement programs (i.e., Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid).

If anyone bothers to read the report these are what drives the longterm outlook.

Oddly Bush tried to address Soc. Sec. somehow this is lost with many liberal congressmen blocking the way to reform. How can anyone forget that? who is really to blame

I guess the real point of this piece is that the Dems are in the way..again…

(BTW Pork barrel congressmen need to get their hands out of the till)

#89- b-2- Your opinion of my opinion is beside the point. What revenue is ‘coming back’? What do you mean by that? I said nothing about any conspiracy theory. Money laundering operation is the way I chose to describe the blatant theft of our tax dollars, by companies that do not have to account for anything, and in fact are permitted to audit themselves, and do not have to share any information with any governing authorities. A billion dollars a DAY goes into Iraq. It seems reasonable that ‘progress’ there should reflect that. And it doesn’t. What in the hell is that money being spent on? Our new Embassy? The biggest one in the world? The new prison we built in Iraq? All of those new military bases? Why don’t we know? Why won’t they be honest with us? And to answer your ‘question’, well I’d have to be at some Republican event, and I am looking for the nearest exit.

CryaBrown – how about cry me a river. I as a repub know that the entire govt over the past 30 yrs has put us into major debt. I don’t know what it is – Reagan during the 80s with a dem congress spent like drunken sailors and 90s nobody cared becuase the revenue was coming in. Now that we’re in a war (yes kids, it IS a war regardless of what you think) we keep spending but at least revenue is coming back…..WHO KNOWs. But I GUARANTEE the answer does not lie in CRYMEARIVER’s response of some massive consipriacy theory about money laundering in Iraq. This is Exactly why nobody takes you kook fringe seriously. Screaming at the moon about consipracy theory and bush knowing about 9/11 is silly.

Think about it – who do you think americans would rather have in power – the kook left or the kook right? I believe your point is that the kook right IS in power, so I guess there’s the answer.

The Iraq Occupation is a giant money laundering operation for the NeoCons and all of their Corporate Cronies. 9 BILLION dollars, IN CASH just does not disappear without a trace. And that’s just what we know about. There is no doubt that it is much more than that. But the haphazard ‘bookkeeping’ practices make it virtually impossible to locate it. It’s not by accident either.

After reading all the comments all I can say is the reform mantra should be as Josh Marshall has suggested, very simply:” HAD ENOUGH ?”. I can’t tell by viewing the President’s recent public confrontations with the media if he is just scared shitless because a major cat is out of the bag or on it’s way, or he just happens to be less insulated and this is his real persona. I think the sad reality is summed up in TripMaster’s comment. The President of the United States should not be a source of humor based on pity.

It is not a question of if but when.

The comment about cutting the deficit in half by 2009 requires smoke and mirrors. First, Bush is using a phoney projection on what the deficit would be (the actual deficit came in about $75 billion under the phoney projection) and second, 2009 is after the current tax cuts are set to expire (the very tax cuts he is asking be made permanent).

Then as bad as the budget deficit is, the current account (trade) deficit is an even bigger problem. It is projected to exceed $700 billion this year. Recent history shows it going up almost $100 billion each year. This year the twin deficits will exceed $1 trillion for the first time. So, as I said, it is not a question of if but when.
