Senators will probe White House coercion.

At least three senators — Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) — have said they will investigate allegations that administration officials pressured a group of military lawyers to support Bush’s military tribunals plan.

i know that some of these probes and whatnot are only happening cuz its an election year, but at least something is getting done.

  2. nffcnnr says:

Hooray! An investigation! Sunshine! Accountability! Justice!
…and eventually, “Executive Priviledge,” “State Secrets,” “stonewalling,” and finally, disapointment that nothing ever came of it. That’s how they roll.

  3. Jay Randal says:

Nice start, but those Senators need to call for Bush and Cheney to be impeached for lying about Iraq to the Congress and for vile war crimes!

  4. pluege says:

holy shit! a congressional investigation. the republicans have finally had enough and decided that bush must go.

  5. Punchy says:

And by “probe”, you mean they will announce a probe but actually do nothing.

    At least Graham wont. Weasal.

  6. Dreary Urbanite says:

Hopefully it will be a red hot probe!

  7. budpaul says:

I’ll be holding my breath for Graham to crumble under the pressure from the WH. There’s no such thing as an independent Republican in this Congress. I hope for the best but am always prepared for the worst, since that’s what usually happens with these guys.

  8. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

I hope this is a dry, unlubed, sphincter(sp?) twisting, deep probe.

  9. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

I wonder if any Republicans are beginning to think that they have to throw Bush under the bus soon (i.e. impeach) if they are to have any chance of winning the White House in 2008?

  10. WaltTheMan says:

Why investigate? That’s a known known.

  11. Marie says:

Anyone want to make a bet — Lindsay Graham is PO’d now because he was personally insulted with the coercion, but he is a Republican above all else. We will see how far this “probe” will go.
We all agree on where we’d like to see a probe inserted!

  12. DallasNE says:

Bush is really digging himself into a hole. He should stop digging.

Also, Bush has agreed with House Majority Leader John Boehner that Democrats “are more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people” though he would choose different words to express that sentiment.

    The exchange follows.

Bush Responded, “I wouldn’t exactly put it that way” when asked if he agreed with comments by House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, that Democrats “are more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people.” But, Bush said, “there’s a difference in attitude” between Republicans and Democrats.

  13. sunshine says:

Excellent! Sounds like the very same tactics applied to the CIA during Cheney’s visits to trump up pre-war support!

  14. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

The fact that Bush’s best war buddy Tony Blair has been reduced to a reviled lame duck must be making Republicans nervous.

  15. cynicalgirl says:

I don’t see Lindsay Graham’s name on that letter. If he’s not on board, this is dead in the water.

  16. ForTruth says:

    Yeah, yeah, yeah,

    Uh huh, uh huh,

    *head nodding up and down*

    Yup, yup, yup,

    sure you are.

  17. midwestblue says:

Yeah, and they’ll have Arlen specter and Pat Roberts head up the investigation. I’m not getting my hopes up: I’ve had too many hopes dashed too many times.
But what has our nation come to? Has anyone heard these right-wingers call into C-Span? They’re for torture, Bush spying on us, and a War with Iran. If Bush passed gas, they’d say: “He’s exactly right on that.” I’ve never heard such a bunch of scared sissy sheep in all my life.

  18. bs says:

oooooo’ snap. just like a twig, it will only be their necks. as it all comes tumbling down.

  19. JPark says:

#19 Ahh, yes, Patty O’Roberts, the guy who said not to take his committee’s recommendations but to just look at the underlying facts. Wow, those Kansans will eat the old s*itburger, won’t they?

  20. Zooey says:

Heh heh, heh heh, you said probe. Heh heh.

  21. Pvt Ratfuck says:

I Fed-Exed a shovel to the White House early yesterday afternoon,Friday. The message was “This is a gift for President Bush.I hope he uses to keep digging a deeper hole”! Do you think anyone at the White House will understand the message?

  22. CyraBrown says:

Senator Lindsey Graham is a former JAG himself. I cannot imagine that he would not somehow be a part of an investigation into the WH actions. No matter his ‘party loyalty’, he must find that personally offensive, if true. He is able to personally identify with this story, giving him the motivation to resist party pressures to stay out of it. But we shall see.
