Following a letter from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) “announced Monday that he will resign his position as chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity. … Ney made no mention of whether he planned to remain in office.”
Hoorah! Now Bonner should step down at the mere though of supporting Ney remaining in his position. What kind of dirt do they have on Bonner?
September 18th, 2006 at 5:27 pmNow let’s see what Ney’s connections were to the stolen election of 2004 in Ohio – his “time” is coming to pay the piper on that one…..along with Ken Stillwell, Diebold and the corrupt GOP.
September 18th, 2006 at 5:28 pmI’m not sure why it matters that much if he resigns, seeing as he’s not running for relection.
September 18th, 2006 at 5:33 pmLet’s not be hasty here. He did give up two key committee chairmanships and it’s not like he’s going to jail, what… oh, he is. Um, never mind.

#3:
It matters because he’s a felon, and felons should not be allowed to serve in Congress, representing the people. (you know, those who have not committed felonies)
At least that’s the way it was when this country had morals, and standards.
September 18th, 2006 at 5:50 pmPlease stay in office, Ney – until November. We need more convicted rubberstamps to show how corrupt they really are.

September 18th, 2006 at 6:00 pmQuickSauce,
It’s good political ammo either way. If he is forced to resign, it’s just another corrupt Repug resiging in shame of corruption. If he stays then he is a visible target for all that is wrong with the GOP.
Rep. Ney must resign from the House of Representatives, but so should Rep. William Jefferson, of Louisiana, who took a $100,000 cash bribe! Any government official who takes bribes, or is involved in other corruption, must resign their position > PERIOD.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:04 pmI agree with Jay. It doesn’t matter whether they’re Republican or Democrat, if they’ve done something illegal or unethical, they must go.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:07 pmJay Randal,
While I agree that anybody found guilty of a crime shouldn’t be allowed to serve in Congress, I don’t believe that is the case with WIlliam Jefferson. Bob Ney has already plead guilty.
Has William Jefferson plead guilty or been found guilty?
I have been keeping an eye out. Maybe I missed something.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:10 pmAdd mine to that list of posts here too;
September 18th, 2006 at 6:13 pmany member of Congress who is either found guilty of a crime or pleads guilty to a crime must leave office.
Ah, QuickSauce, breaking out that tired old line… for the loss.
By your idiotic string of logic, any elected official can do anything once he’s/she’s in office, provided that he/she doesn’t run for re-election.
Jesus.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:21 pmcheck out waynd madsen for more info on ney, wow! this is really deep shit!
September 18th, 2006 at 6:25 pmSpudge_Boy > Rep. William Jefferson has been charged with taking bribes, but he has not been sentenced yet, but regardless the FBI has him on film taking $100,000 cash bribe, then he stuck $90,000 of it in 9 bundles in his freezer, and spent $10,000 of it too! The evidence is clear cut, so he must resign before his actions harm the Democrats!
September 18th, 2006 at 6:25 pmJefferson may indeed be guilty – but until he is FOUND guilty, he must be presumed innocent (at least that’s still the law today), and allowed to remain in office.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:36 pmIf everyone who is under suspicion is forced to resign, the Congress may find itself short of a quorum.
I’m sure the republicans think it is perfectly OK for ney to finish out his term from a prison cell.
After all, for them, there is no shame in breaking the law. Getting caught is what is shameful.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:42 pmMarie > William Jefferson took a $100,000 cash bribe, filmed by the FBI, and he even makes jokes about the money as he takes it! He then stuck $90,000 in his freezer in 9 bundles wrapped in tinfoil like fish! The FBI raided his house and found it, plus he spent $10,000 of it! He is due to be sentenced just before the November election, so do you want that shown on TV just before voting? Best for him to resign now!
September 18th, 2006 at 6:45 pmJay Randal,
Have you seen the video or know of a link to watch it?
You remember Marion Barry toking on a crack pipe and then getting reelected?
I wanna see the video.
September 18th, 2006 at 6:45 pm18# let the wheels of justice take it’s course. DeLay, Cunningham and Ney denied and denied while holding onto their power. W. jefferson may well be guilty and he will get his in due time. Personally I agree that he should step down but maybe the good citizens of his district will do the honors for him and he doesn’t get re-elected.
September 18th, 2006 at 7:23 pmJay Randal,
You know as well as I do that it will still be shown if he resigns now or later. Just as the Democrats had better show Ney pleading guilty.
September 18th, 2006 at 7:24 pmJefferson has been booted from any congressional positions he was on by the Democrats already. For resigning, Jefferson has to do that himself.
Ney has pleaded guilty already.
September 18th, 2006 at 7:49 pmIf only Lieberman would do the same… or could be PRESSURED to do the same…

September 18th, 2006 at 7:58 pmResign? Ney, ney!!
(sorry)
September 18th, 2006 at 7:59 pmMy hope is that the backlash against Noe, Ney, and Taft is strong enough here in Ohio to insure that Blackwell does not become governor. That would be scary on a host of levels – church/state issues, voter rights, political transparency.
September 18th, 2006 at 8:15 pmSpudge_Boy > I do NOT want the William Jefferson bribe taking to blow up in the Democrats faces a few days before the election > that is why he should resign now! The FBI video will be shown eventually, but at the moment it’s evidence for his trial! His remaining in office harms the Black Caucus as well! Was he set up like Marion Barry? Perhaps, but nonetheless he willingly accepted the $100,000 bribe on camera!
