    “It’s a number.” – Tony Snow

  2. Dick says:

20,000 injured troops and zero wounded chickenhacks!!

  3. Uncle Ho says:

How much more blood must be spilled in Bush’s war of choice?

America.. just remember this when you vote; Had Enough?

  4. g says:

not to mention we are weeks away from having more dead soldiers in iraq than on 9/11

  5. Marie says:

And there is no end in sight.

  6. trueblue says:

And this asshole wants to take it to Iran?

God help us. Deliver us from the evil that is George W. Bush.

  7. Hardy+Haberman says:

And the Bush Administration wants to cut Veterans benifits for certain head injuries. Good timing, Chimpy!

  8. osage says:

Limbless, disabled, physically, psychologically and emotionally scared men and women who sacrified their bodies and minds for what? VA benefits have been cut by Mr. Bush, while these fine young people were risking everything in Iraq. How many of them have lost the ability to work and function normally? How many of them have been or will be divorced because “they have changed”? How many of them will lose their families and or become homeless? How many of them have suffered physical, psychological and emotional wounds they will never overcome? If you’ve haven’t experienced the horrors of war, you can’t understand the many unseen ways these peoples lives have been irreparably damaged. Do you think this president understands? Do you think he gives a shit?

  9. bones says:

Soldiers without arms, legs, scars, crippled. 20,000 Americans, but as the Bush family would say, “Why would I want to bother my beautiful mind with thoughts like that?”

  10. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

The Republican view is that all Americans (except them) should be happy to give arms and legs to a Republican war….and after you lose them the Republican view is: don’t expect a handout from the government. A perfect scam.

  11. Badmoodman says:

“We don’t do limb counts.” – - Gen. Tommy Franks

  12. trueblue says:

    Badmoodman,

    You’re kidding, right?
    Did he really say that?

How f*cking callous! And why don’t these awful statements make it on MSM?

The Dem’s lead has shrunk because of the crap being put out there from Herr Bush.

I am so incredibly ashamed to be an American right now.

  13. Godfry+Daniel says:

Twenty thousand wounded. Twenty billion dollars into the account for Haliburton. This is how it works folks. Hope it’s not your kids.

  14. Jay says:

Amen RatFasp at #10….the R’s are about taking and hoarding and killing. Profits and power are their true Gods. Not a single American value between the lot of ‘em.

They are fascists by any definition and that is not hyperbole.

slightly off topic, but if you get a chance check out the fantastic charity Homes for Our Troops. A wonderful group of people that see that returning disabled Vets get what they need to adapt to home life, from total design to wheel chair access. http://homesforourtroops.org

  16. Erroll says:

All of these casualties grievously wounded not for a noble cause but, as Burt Lancaster stated in the classic Western “The Professionals” [1966], for a lost cause.

  18. Jay Randal says:

Expect that number to jump over to 100,000 wounded, after Bush attacks Iran, and a jump to over 20,000+ killed too!

  19. trueblue says:

    Jay Randal,

Don’t you think the entire country will rebel if he dares to go into Iran?

  20. Badmoodman says:

    Badmoodman,

    You’re kidding, right?
    Did he really say that?

    - – Ummm, no. Just a little sarcastic paraphrasing on the body count thing. Relax.

  21. Marie says:

    trueblue,
I am not at all sure that the whole country will rebel if Bush dares to go into Iran. He already has encouragement from Cheney and the neo-cons, as well as some columnists and Fox propagandists. There are certain members of congress who will turn themselves inside out in their support of the warmonger, and don’t forget the 32% hardcore Republican citizens who are unfailingly supportive.
There are operations taking place on the ground in Iran already, the navy has its orders. Bush has not yet met with Congress before starting this – if he chooses to get more of his chess pieces in place before he does so, including manufacturing any amount of evidence he deems may be necessary for their persuasion, we could have a de facto war in Iran — once he goes too far, retreat will be impossible (at least with this congress). It could be like Iraq – when that debacle became so evident, the refrain was “well, we’re there now, so we have to deal with it.”

  22. WaltTheMan says:

Our nation has become a nation of laws governed by outlaws. We can only hope that it survives this crisis.

  23. ForTruth says:

The whole cutting of Vet’s benefits doesn’t make any sense to me. Is there a Troll who would like to explain that one?

Cutting funding for the head injury treatment/rehab is basically passing that tab on to the States. That’s all well and good if you Feds let the States make some of their own laws. Like if you live in Idaho, you should definately be allowed to drive with an open container.

  24. Jay Randal says:

trueblue I think Bush expects trouble if he attacks Iran, so that is why Halliburton was given a half billion dollars to build detention camps on old deserted military bases! I heard that a couple of them have been completed and can hold maybe 50,000 or more protesters?! Even Time magazine admits that an attack on Iran is imminent this October!

  25. osage says:

We don’t have the troops or equipment to send additonal ground forces into Iran on the scale it would require. All we could do is bomb/missle the shit out of them. Bush is playing a stupid game he can’t win. The Iranian president is laughing at him because we can’t afford to do anything but make everything worse.

  26. Marie says:

    #24 Jay,
You reminded me of something discussed a while ago. You’re right. We have those deserted military bases to be used for ??? We have microwave weapons used to control crowds – last week, the AF Gen. said they could/should be used for domestic “crowd control” before we use them on the enemy.
This government does not tolerate dissent. In fact, the other day, Bush does not even tolerate “thinking” anything contrary to him. Keith Olbermann brought that to a fine point the other night.
So, any rebellion in this country will indeed be met with force that will likely exceed anything we saw in the civil rights and the Viet Nam protests.

  27. Jay Randal says:

Yes Marie unfortunately you are correct > the Bush Regime is already calling Americans who oppose him Al Queda allies, so those who protest the Iran war might end up in the Halliburton camps! Scary thing because some claim the camps are patterned after Chinese Labor camps, which harvest organs of the inmates sold to the wealthy who need transplants! It looks bad and the DC Dems are acting comatose!

  28. Sharon Cox says:

Marie and all, you are correct. This is a diffrent ball game entirely from the last peace protests in the 60’s…Don’t want to scare any one further but we are past the time of dissent in small numbers and close to an all out revolution….It’s just what will cause the masses to revolt…Iran, gas prices, another Katrina event. Hard to know…I am ready though, enough food, water and amo to last several month’s..Time for every one else to do the same. Put back a few can’s of gas as well..Think survival for 3 month’s or more…

Did any one hear on any of the new’s clip’s about the thousands that marched at the UN before bull shit bush’s speech.? I was gone all day so missed it……Blessings to our citizens that are working for Peace when we are not able to….

  29. Marie says:

    Sharon,
We were home this afternoon and MSNBC and CNN was on the entire time — we saw nothing of any protests at the UN.

  30. Jay says:

Sharon, I mean no disrespect here but can you explain what preparing for a 3-montth hunker down is intended to guard against? It strikes me as very similar to DHS calls for duct tape…. If the government has plans to start throwing dissidents into camps, how will your ammo matter? Or are you preparing for something else?

  31. Uncle Ho says:

Marie; the solid 32% core Bush supporters sure as hell won’t rush to the recruiters when their fuhrer marches into Tehran. But I for one will definitely will be in the streets fomenting rebellion, and there will be millions in the streets too. Another war will propel the USA to incipient uprising not seen since 1776.

Let the revolution begin! Death to the tyrants!

  32. Sharon Cox says:

Marie, truthout sent the usual post’s I get often and there was mention of it today…Go there for their info if you like…

Jay, I am prepared for what ever this bunch plan’s for in advance..Incase they pull crap and start rationing I have what I need. If civil unrest becomes violent and people that are violent want what I have, food, water, gas I am prepared to defend my self….I am a Peace activest and will only use force for self defence…If the gov. get’s more nut’s than they are and come after me the same applies.I am not a threat to any one but will hold my own…..Blessings

  33. Above+the+Clouds says:

Remind me again why we are in Iraq? It was Osama bin Laden and not Saddam Hussein who killed Americans on US soil. Those soldiers and their families will have to spend the rest of their lives justifying why they were maimed. In the end, is it really worth any U.S. blood so Iraqis can vote for one mullah over another?

  34. Marie says:

    Uncle Ho,
I am old enough to have seen it all and at this stage, I will be one in the streets. If they want to microwave me or detain me, I have already instructed my children to grab my grandkids and call the TV stations — tell them on TV that their nana has been arrested for talking about that “bad man Bush.”

  37. Marie says:

    Sharon,
Thanks, I just read Truthout’s account from Reuter’s on the protestors in NY today.
I remember getting Emails asking to attend the protest, which I couldn’t attend, but our so-called “liberal media” didn’t see fit to report it to the general public.
Bush did not get a warm reception when he spoke inside the UN today.

  38. Anonymous+Dem says:

Republicans: Good guys or wise guys?

Republicans say they are good guys. Let’s examine this admittedly biased, self-serving statement.

Let’s put aside all the Americans who have died in Iraq, Katrina and 9/11. And let’s also continue to forget about the bottom half of this Nation who has not shared in the economic expansion or their productivity increases under W. but instead are beset with daunting healthcare costs and gas prices and minimum wages which haven’t been raised in over a decade thank you very much. Let’s put all those annoying facts out of our heads or better yet blame someone else for all the failures which occurred under their watch – the media, liberals, gays, terrorists etc.

Let’s continue to explain away all that stuff. Let’s look instead at something kind of objective. The number of crooks in Republican Administrations versus Democratic Administrations. Let’s review again for our Republican friends how incredibly dishonest Republican Administrations have been starting with Nixon. And we’re not just talking lies, we’re talking felonies. Lot’s of them. In my book, a crooked politician is not a “good guy.” But please feel free to explain how you disagree my Republican friends. Please explain to me how crooked felon politicians are just misunderstood good guys who need to be loved. Anyway, here’s the Republican rap sheet, followed by the record of Democratic Administrations (hint- not one conviction since Nixon despite Republican witch hunts):

Nixon was the epitome of a crook caught red handed (please try to deny it, please do my good Republican friends), followed by his VP crony Ford who amazingly gave Nixon a complete free pass to America’s great dismay, followed by a record busting 29 convicted criminals in the Reagan Administration, followed by Bush I giving the Secretary of Defense under Reagan and no less than five other Reagan officials ensnared in the arms to Iran scandal another complete free pass to avoid getting caught himself (sworn testimony from Cap and crew shows that despite bogus denials Bush I knew all about Iran-Contra), followed by W. whose White House Procurement Officer has already from the White House to the Big House due to getting wrapped up with none other than Abramoff – the biggest scandal guy since Nixon.

And let’s look at Republicans in Congress today. It’s a veritable “Modern Times” comedy of crimes. Republican leader and Speaker of the House none other than Tom “The Hammer” Delay is on trial for his political life claiming the prosecutor is partisan against him even though the prosecutor has gone after more Democrats than Republicans (something’s not clicking here . . .) Top Republican Bob “The Velvet Hammer” Ney (notice the pattern of criminal gangster names – would be funny if it weren’t so apt) — another Abramoff pal — admits to being a dirty guilty felon politician and that all his prior bogus denials and blaming liberals and the media and blah blah blah for his own big “persecution” were just that. The Republican Senate Majority Leader and multi-multi millionaire Bill Frist is under investigation by the SEC and other authorities for insider trading in dumping his family stock to get even more money right before bad insider news broke and otherwise has a terrible record for honesty (happy to get into it if you want to). And that’s just the start. To avoid a bad sentence, Republican ringleader of the massive K-Street scandal (yup, it takes a whole block of Republican lobbyists), Abramoff is ratting out lots more Republican pols. And this is not to mention “Scooter” Libby who has been indicted and will stand trial for obstructing justice. Or the illegal wiretapping or torture which is also so misunderstood.

In the meantime, say what you want about the man’s effectiveness, but Carter was, is and always will be . . . well let me say something understated that even the extremist Bush Republicans will have a hard time arguing with . . . not a President who broke the law. Clinton was persecuted to the point of impeachment by a Republican controlled House of Representatives — only to be . . . again let me say something understated even the Bush Republicans will have a hard time arguing with . . . not convicted. Yes it’s innocent until proven guilty for the Republicans of course, if you’re innocent like Karl “The Architect” Rove.

You want more criminals in office? Vote Republican. It’s in the bag.

    Have a nice evening everyone.

  39. Marie says:

Check out a speech given by Daniel Ellsberg at Truthdig.com. “Time to Drive out the Bush Regime.”

10/15/69 there was a massive demonstration in the streets — 2,000,000 people in groups across the nation. A national day of civil disobedience.

He recounts the rise of Hitler’s fascism and how it sort of just evolved — it’s chillingly familiar today.

Mr. Nukaler wants you to be paranoid.

Well, Mr. Nukaler, you are more likely to be shot be a policeman than you are to be attacked by a terrorist.
You are more likely to be struck by lightning than you are to be attacked by a terrorist.
You are more likely to win the Powerball lottery than you are to be attacked by a terrorist.
You are more likely to be assaulted by a lowlife thug than you are to be attacked by a terrorist.
You are more likely to be car-jacked than be attacked by a terrorist.
