Through ACARE and Greener By Design, the aerospace industry is making massive leaps towards reducing harmful emissions and fuel consumption. Time to put the same targets for the automobile industry.

The only way to effectively combat global warming is population control. Voluntary euthanasia and birth control must be aggressively promoted.

The most effective contributors were Hitler (6 million + descendents dead) and African dictators (at least as many). Branson and Gore are tossers – you can’t control people’s expectations – just get rid of the people!.

Well, sorry buddy, but if you’re telling me all sorts of man-made products don’t have an impact on the environment, from batteries being dumped in land fills, to oil spills in the ocean, to cars producing carbon monoxide…if they don’t impact the Earth in some way…I don’t know what to tell you.

However, when the Clinton-Gore left the White House after eight years in office, CAFE stood at 27.5 miles per gallon. That’s right, the man who wrote Earth in the Balance and was the “most influential vice president in history” didn’t do a thing to reduce our dependency on foreign energy sources. He spent all his time raising money from Buddhist nuns and crooks at coffee klatches, and defending the most corrupt president in history.

Instead, Branson is doing what everybody should be doing: he is offsetting the damage he is doing by contributing what he can to the solution.

We could all follow Branson’s lead by doing things like calculating how much CO2 we produce with our weekly business flights and what not and then taking steps to reduce our CO2 emissions by the same amount. For those of you who are naysayers about the effects of global warming, a grave warning: open your eyes before it’s too late. Not only ‘too late’ because of the actual effects of global warming, but also the human backlash against those who mislead us today. After the Environmental Revolution of 2010, the fake scientists, profiteers, and naysayers will be found and brought to justice for what they have done. Make sure you are on the right side before it’s too late.

Ok now on the coal issue. I did misquote $18. $35 does seem the more likely target. I got the $18 from a proposal I saw from the CEO of Jet Blue. What he was asking for was a government guarantee of $38 per barrel down to $18. The proposal can be found here
He also said that with 79 plants we could be totally free from imported oil.
The problem is that it cost approximately $4 Billion to build each plant and if oil fell through the floor it could be all for nothing.

Charlie I’m not sure you can have both global warming and cooling at the same time.

Realistically, the break even mark is even higher than 35$ due to the location of our coal reserves.

As for the whole global warming is a myth thing. Why is it that you beleive this? What is your background on this issue. I happen to have worked with one of the scientists that was called in front of various committees such as the senate and that california lawsuit. One thing that I have learned is that a clear and large majority of legitimate scientists believe that there are forces that we are a main contributor to that are currently causing global warming.

I want to make a guess here and say that your scientific research background is very weak steve. This is because you seem to adopt the dogma that most creationists and intelligent design supporters share with the no global warming supporters. That is in its simplified form: if you can poke a hole somewhere, the entire thing must be wrong. Any legitimate researcher knows that science revises itself repeatedly to approach an absolute. Any hole that is poked means another revision is at hand. So the researchers that are asking for grant money to prove one thing or the other are not doing so in a frivolous manner, but to in fact research more about this phenomenon so that we can know more about this.

Has anyone every heard about global cooling? Both factors appear to be at work on our environment. Global cooling is basically due to the large amount of particulates that we release into the air. This can cause less solar radiation to actuallly hit the ground and for that radiation to become scattered. This in effect can mask the true effect of global warming. However, the most compelling tenet of global cooling lies in chemistry. This is the fact that water is polar. This means that it will aggregate around these particulates. When water in the atmosphere naturally aggregates, it forms rain. These particulates appear to accelerate the rain formation process. This in effect means that rain forms earlier than it should and lands earlier that it normally would. Now the effect of this is that rain patterns can shift.

Regarding grants to disprove global warming: You know at some point science determines that a theory is valid and invests in fleshing it out further. Is your alma mater currently seeking grants to disprove Newton’s Laws or that the earth is round. How many studies proving global warming exists do you need. If you get one more, will it finally do it for you?

Regarding Branson investing in alternative fuels: Of course he is investing. The trolls on here cannot seem to grasp the notion that something can be both better for business and the environment. They are NOT mutually exclusive. So the guy gets some good PR out of this. Why does that bother people? However, if this were just a publicity stunt, he would have pledged $3 million, not $3 billion. For $3 billion, he could buy all the publicity he wants, and – newsflash – the guys is in the news all the time anyway.

Regarding the California lawsuit: I have to admit that sounds like election year grandstanding. If California had set a greenhouse gas emiision limit for the automakers products and then they subsequently exceeded those limits, by all means hold them accountable, but to sue them without a law to back it up is just a show.

Also, the numbers I’m seeing for coal gasification indicate break-even closer to the $35/barrel mark, not $18.

So synfuel is one viable alternative, but there are several and it is important not to hitch our nation to any one technology this time around.
