I’m a (former) Methodist, and while I no longer attend church regularly, I’ve always been pleased with the UMC’s relatively liberal stances on many issues compared to other denominations. Seeing this today makes me proud of the church.
Excellent. This is what religion should be doing, promoting peace instead of the war making policies of a religious hypocrite such as George W. Bush.

Old habits are hard to break. I think religions have been promoting wars since….well…the beginning of religions. “Our god is better than yours” can be pretty convincing to most.
I would like to read the debate/sermon that the church in LA had that is creating the big issue with churches supporting politics. My inital thought is that the sermon promoted peace…I doubt I am wrong.
So what about all of the other right wing politically active churches (Falwell etc) and their strong political rantings…why are they not investigated?
Bush calls himself a Christian, but he got into the game quite late. (Actually, late, drunk & stoned.)
He had to affiliate with someone. Truth be told, he’s just the head cheerleader for the Church of the Poison Mind & keeper of the Holy Potato. Bill Clinton is a leader.
Chris Wallace is a talking point dunce.
John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Movement, described the four pillars for Christian decision making: Scripture, tradition, personal experience, and reason. Bush does not appear to use anything other than his personal experience of getting rich off his neocon enablers.
Satan knows what he’s doing Bush is an appointee of Satan sitting in God’s church to get more followers. Chavez was right and now true Christians are seeing the Devil aka Bush for who he really is. Oh and the bloggers that follow the Prince of Darkness.
[...] In the fallout of the weekend’s intel report clarifying yet again that the Iraq War has made the world less safe, President Bush’s own church, the United Methodist Church, has launched “a week of protest and civil disobedience against the war in Iraq by signing a declaration of peace urging President Bush to pull U.S. troops out of the country.†[...]
[...] Also, this story has been wrongly interpreted as The United Methodist Church calling for the withdrawal of troops. Yes, these clergy represent The United Methodist Church, but they don’t speak on behalf of The United Methodist Church. It’s an important distinction. Plenty of other clergy have other opinions on the war. The United Methodist Church has official statements on war in general (though, like all of the UMC’s other teachings on hot-button issues, they are rather ambiguous), but I think it would be wrong to say that the church recognizes one particular UMC stance on the Iraq War. Karma is coming to your house of warship EL DIABLOCO.
America please save your own asses and IMPEACH-PROSECUTE-EXECUTE, the international war criminals, traitors, profiteers, liars, etc, occupying your whitehouse before you are a pariah and no one will have anything to do with you, even for money.
U.S. is already considered a rogue nation with BOMBS enough to annhilate the world many times over, controlled by CRAZY NEO-FASCISTS that care nothing for it’s own citizens., never mind dissenters all on a list for secret camps made by HALIBURTON.

Everyone’s on the right track, great comments – - except that the United Methodist DOES have an official stance FOR peace. And… George W. refused to see a selected delegation of three United Methodist Bishops BEFORE he started “George’s War.” He wouldn’t let them in to talk or pray with him. I wasn’t aware he ever went to church these. His current spiritual advisors are Jerry Falwell and others like him, who also speak for God.
This post misrepresents the artice that Evangelical Right is linking to. Only the Council of Bishops or the General Conference can speak for the entire United Methodist Church, and neither has demanded a withdraw from Iraq. 100 United Methodists assembled in a rally to call for a US withdraw. This by no means can be asserted to be a governing authority of a denomination that numbers 11 million.
Don’t they know that god speaks through Bush?
