Bush has not done the JOB either. Why do you feel you have the RIGHT to decide WHO deserves democracy.
If others opinions make your head hurt, maybe it is because you do not have enough intellect to understand the issues.
As for IGNORANT VOTERS, speak only for yourself.
I am a VOTER
I am not IGNORANT. Clump yourself in that category and move on with your RIGHT wing KNOW IT ALL AGENDA.

For Gods sake WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!
Self righteous and STUPID!
Clinton did not MAKE THE MESS. Where do you get your facts( I mean your agenda)
GO peddle your BS on the corner.
YOU DO NOT DESERVE A VOICE

Yes eventhough I didn't agree back then about Clinton's personal issues I feel that he did do the correct thing and it wasn't timed. If the "current administration" payed attention maybe we wouldn't be in the quagmire we are in now.

Exley is correct that the Republican leadership (Lott and Gingrich) supported Clinton's actions in Afghanistan and Sudan. Clinton wisely included them in briefings before the attacks. However, Think Progress has proved that other Republican politicians questioned the attacks. And everybody seems to have forgotten about the influence right wing talk radio had at the time.

I just get a headache reading all these comments. The facts are that both President Clinton and the Congress failed to get Osama during that time. Unlike the today when Bush can count on congress, Clinton could not. Why did Clinton make this mess, why did Congress waste so much time trying to hang him? None did their job!

I cannot bear to see the destruction of this great nation by so many bumbling politicians and ignorant voters. You do not deserve democracy!

What is truly sad is we have diverted from the point.
If OBL is the threat they believe he is, WHY is he not captured, killed whatever?
BUSH is president! Here is an idea, lets see if HE is responsible for this oversight? Here we are 6 YEARS later. BUSH is president! WHAT has he done! Did he capture OBL! NO! DO we know where he is? MAYBE?
Have we done anything to secure his capture? Who knows? Oh well maybe we can blame Bill Clinton.

Lets be honest, no matter what party you stand for, the fact is the CURRENT PRESIDENT has not captured OBL. In fact the last I heard, all of the funding was cut off for this endeavor. WHAT SAY YOU EXLEY? WHO IS TO BLAME FOR 6 YRS WORTH OF OBL NOT BEING CAUGHT OR CONTAINED!

If we the taxpayers do not question our leaders than we as a nation, have NO VOICE? It is a Right wing philosophy for some reason, that if you question your Government you are NOT PATRIOTIC! TOTAL BS!

Lets face it DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, we need to make sure our leaders are accountable for there actions. Clintons personal life was news every night and most of the country could have cared less about it. IT DOES NOT EFFECT POLICY!
I want my president to get all the BJs he needs. SO, he can be relaxed at the wheel. Not ready to butt heads with all countries around the globe.

FOR GODS SAKE BE FOR REAL!
Stop deluding yourself and others EX you know what the truth is!
God knows the truth. DONT LIE TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS>
Fact is we are NO BETTER OFF AS a country!
This has not been the END of terrorism.. It has been the spring board for the terrorist to jump from.
ASK yourself "Is this working? The war in Iraq?"
Are we better off? Are we promoting PEACE?
What is the agenda and WHY?
And why arent we, as Americans able to question our leaders without them blaming the former president from 6 YEARS AGO!
Stop blaming
TELL THE TRUTH!!!!
I think that is what we need. A president who will say I want the best for this country and its people and we will support an initiative for PEACE!!!!!!

"There is a mindset out there that is willing to destroy even our own history to see its ideals made policy. "

Way to "sum it up"!

Information and education are the only soultions...
and...well... population control, conservation, religions fading into oblivion (with all other fantasies), and a real effort to co-exist with ourselves and the Earth.

I try to be optimistic..... but the record is not good...

Like many other posters here, I remember 1998, and I know what happened then. Exley's posts are irrelevant to that memory, and they are irrelevant next to the substantial body of real evidence that s/he is trying to revise.

However, Exley's comments are not irrelevant next to what we as progressive-minded, patriotic citizens must remember: There is a mindset out there that is willing to destroy even our own history to see its ideals made policy.

Let's hope similarly-minded would-be politicians keep their revisionist tactics off of education... race relations... welfare... immigration.... Better yet: Since s/he has insisted on being a part of this conversation, let's really offer a real response. Let's commit to staying educated, staying informed, staying active, and staying loud.

"Dangerous" Definition-Radical Religious Fundamentalist-The Religious Right Wing. I thought this was the group we have been fighting against in
Afghanistan and Iraq.

"'Theocracy" Another questionable word. A government by churchmen. It
appears to me that's what has been runing our government these last five

Hey Big Papa (#235)

As much as I would like to see most of Bush's criminal clowns go to prison, I am afraid they are too well connected and protected. Unless someone can find and prove a sex scandal, they will walk.

It's OK with the igno(R)ant American public if our leaders murder tens of thousands of civilians, and run up record-breaking debt, but if you have sex in the oval office with someone who is not your wife... well, you must be impeached.

This young country is not going to make it if the stupidity continues much longer. Only Democrats can save this country, and only if we work hard to slam the liars as soon as they open their lying mouths. No more playing nice! It's war now... get your boots on...

Great post, Bob... very informative.
It's a shame however, that we are at a stage in this country's political climate when facts mean nothing. The Republicans will blame Clinton for 9/11 despite all facts that indicate otherwise. Truth and facts are the enemies of the rep party.

They are going to spread lie after lie, repeating them until many of the ignorant American public believe them. Winning is all that matters. Money is all that matters... it is their god. The Republican party is destroying America's future for tax gifts now.

They have no problem spending a billion dollars a week killing brown people as if they are not human, but they scream bloody murder if a hungry black kid in Harlem gets a free meal on their tax dollar. Christian my ass! They are hypocrites of the highest magnitude.... selling out this country's future antagonizing the world, alienating our former friends, and uniting and creating terrorists all over the globe.

Bush and his criminal clowns are not only responsible for 9/11 by essentially ignoring the terrorist threat and failing to inform the public of the suicide hijacker possibility, but Bush and his pack of weasels are also responsible for all the dead and wounded American soldiers, as well as the murder of tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians.... making him the world's most dangerous terrorist.

We will suffer the wrath of the survivors for generations. If I were an Iraqi child and someone bombed my city, killing my family members.... I would have one goal on my mind... that's right... a whole new generation of terrorists has been created by this fraudulent and criminal "administration". They are giving the terrorists exactly what they want - more members, and validation that the U.S. is the great Satan. Way to go dumbasses!

Some verified and re-verifiable facts:

Robert Oakley, ambassador for counterterrorism in Reagan's state department, said of the counterterror measures of Clinton's administration in January 2001, "Overall, I give them very high marks. The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama, which only made him stronger."

Paul Bremer, however, told the Washington Post at the same time that he felt Clinton had 'correctly focused on bin Laden'.

The first World Trade Centre bombing happened when Clinton had been President for 38 days. The four perpetrators are still behind bars.

Clinton tripled the FBI's counterterrorism budget and doubled total US counterterrorism funding.

Barton Gellman wrote, "By any measure available, Clinton left office having given greater priority to terrorism than any president before him. Clinton's was the first administration to undertake a systematic anti-terrorist effort."

When Clinton requested more counterterrorism funding in 1996, Senator Orrin Hatch replied that 'the administration would be wise to utilise the resources Congress has already provided before it requests additional funding.' This, by the way, is the same Orrin Hatch who claimed that 9/11 happened because Clinton de-emphasised the military (you know - the one that took Afghanistan before W's first defence budget went into operation on October 1st, 2002) and disclosed classified intercepts between bin Laden and associates concerning the attack. Two days later, a visibly pissed-off Rumsfeld claimed that Hatch's leak was the sort that 'compromises our sources and methods' and 'inhibits our ability to find and deal with the terrorists who commit this kind of act.' But well worth it for a partisan soundbite, eh, Orrin?

Clinton issued a Presidential Directive to kill Osama right after the embassy bombings. This does not contradict Reagan's Executive Order 12333, which precludes assassinating foreign heads of state, as bin Laden is not a head of state.

Finally, Richard Clarke produced a strategy paper, presented to Clinton, Sandy Berger and other national security principals on December 20th, 2000, which laid out the following:

Break up al-Qaeda cells and arrest their personnel; systematically attack financial support for terrorist activities; freeze its assets; stop its funding through fake charities; give aid to governments having trouble with al-Qaeda (Uzbekistan, Yemen and the Phillipines); scale up covert action in Afghanistan to eliminate the training camps and kill bin Laden himself; build support for the Northern Alliance and put Special Forces on the ground in Afghanistan.

This plan was not implemented, as a senior Cinton aide told Time Magazine, because if it were, Clinton would basically be handing the Bush administration a war when they took office one month later. Instead, they gave the plan to the Bush administration, with Sandy Berger arranging no less than ten full briefings to Condi Rice. The plan was not picked up until post September 11th, 2001, at which point pretty much all of it became national strategy, along with the foundation of the Department of Homeland Security, as per legislation authored by Democratic Senators Lieberman and Cleland some nine months earlier. Of course, Cleland didn't vote for the new Homeland Security department when it was tabled because it came with the provision that the new department's employees were to be stripped of civil service protection. This meant that when he ran against Saxby Chambliss in 2002, Chambliss ran ads claiming Cleland didn't care about national security and promptly beat him.

And a few facts on the Sudanese offer of Bin Laden's head.

Mansoor Ijaz, a Pakistani-American, claims to have transmitted the offer for bin Laden's head as the middle man between Sudan and the USA. Former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger met Ijaz and determined that he was an unreliable freelancer with a huge stake in Sudanese oil, and interested primarily in his own financial objectives.

Daniel Benjamin was at the time the Director for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council, and confirms that Ijaz urged Berger to lift sanctions against Sudan - sanctions which were in place because the Sudanese government harbours Hamas, Hezbollah and al-Qaeda terrorists and is a state sponsor of slavery. Ijaz claimed that the Sudanese were ready to hand over bin Laden.

As the USA is generally unwilling to conduct diplomacy with self-appointed private individuals, approaches were made to the Sudanese government to discover the truth of this and attempt to negotiate. There was no such offer, despite the number of leads the US tried. Of Ijaz, Benjamin says, "Either he allowed himself to be manipulated, or he's in bed with a bunch of genocidal terrorists."

Mansoor Ijaz is now a foreign affairs analyst for the FOX news channel.

It should be obvious by now to all in this forum, that a certain individual is far more interested in antagonizing people than in having an intelligent discussion.

THIS IS THEIR PLAN! Confuse, distort, provoke, evade, etc...
Please... put this clown on "ignore"... by not responding to him/her.
When you give a whiney child attention, you get more whining...
All of this person's comments have been addressed several times, proving him/her clearly wrong.

Notice how his/her comments now have nothing to do with this thread. How sad that a person needs so much attention.... bad childhood I suspect. They probably were beaten by their ignorant republican parents.

#227, Ah, my good friend Barfly....Still living in a world of delusion, I see...

I assume you are referring to our discussion of whether Saddam Hussein's regime was a uniquely horrific dictatorship in the world during the time of his reign....You got confused and mistakenly thought we were discussing tyrants throughout human history....So, even though we were talking about dictators in the 1980s, 90s and early 21st century, you started spouting off about Hitler and Stalin and so on....I cleared up your confusion by saying, yes, Barfly, Hitler and Stalin were quite evil....But that is not the period of history we are discussing.....Once you realized your mistake, you ran away.

But if that's what you want to hang your "victory" on, Barfly, please take it. Be my guest....Lord knows you need something to try to restore your dignity!

This is not a myth. I remember when this happened. Every news or political talk show was talking about it and many republicans bashed the president for his timing. Exley is right by saying that not every republican was against him but they were not as vocal as those questioning the decision.
