Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, today disclosed the existence of a second classified National Intelligence Estimate “that gives a grim assessment of the situation in Iraq, and called for it to be shared with the American public — before the November elections.” TPM Muckraker has details.
Share it! Share it! So that’s precisely why Bushitco has been brainwashing the american public about the “war on terror” and “making us safer” – he knew of the existence of these reports and was doing advance damage control. What a fraud!
September 26th, 2006 at 3:08 pmAnd I continue to pray that individuals continue to come forward with testimony and evidence of the criminal wrongdoing of this Administration. May this evidence see the light of day in public inquiries and in the mainstream press.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:19 pmMore bad news! Not on his watch…Heh! Damn Islamopublicans! Idiot Stay the Courseicans. Train ‘em over there so we really got to fight ‘em…say, in Iran!
September 26th, 2006 at 3:19 pmBeware The NIE
September 26th, 2006 at 3:26 pmIn their eagerness to knock down Bush’s war in Iraq by using reports about the NIE, the Democrats risk giving another boost to the president in the “other†war, namely, the so-called war on terrorism. By embracing the NIE’s reported conclusion that the war in Iraq has made the threat of terrorism worse, the Democrats play into Bush’s strong suit. While most Americans think that the war in Iraq is wrong and not worth fighting, polls continue to show that support for President Bush as the commander in chief of the Global War on Terror. Ironically, by endorsing the idea that radical Islamist terrorism is a major threat to the United States, the Democrats could end up driving U.S. voters into the arms of the president once again.
And in other news:
Congress Unlikely to Pass Wiretapping
Congress is unlikely to approve a bill giving President Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program legal status and new restrictions before the November midterm elections, dealing a significant blow to one of the White House’s top wartime priorities.

Score one for the rule of law!
September 26th, 2006 at 3:29 pmWatch out Jane or you will be put on “double secret probation”
September 26th, 2006 at 3:31 pmOf course Bush will declassify both reports, he has nothing to hide, does he?
September 26th, 2006 at 3:34 pmTobey+Tall,
Your argument is rather circular, don’t you think? There’s no doubt that terrorism is a problem. And there is not doubt that this President has made this problem worse. How does making something worse make you want to vote for more of the same?
September 26th, 2006 at 3:34 pmUmmmm, sounds like #4 must be one of those trolls pretending to be a progressive. The argument is nonsensical. Or, that dog just don’t bark!

September 26th, 2006 at 3:38 pmGreat news from Iraq and the War on Terror:
Al Qaeda Operative Is Killed in Iraq
The New York Times
By SABRINA TAVERNISE
Published: September 26, 2006
BAGHDAD, Sept. 25 — ‘A senior operative of Al Qaeda who brazenly escaped from a high-security American prison in Afghanistan last year was killed Monday in a predawn raid by British soldiers in a quiet, wealthy neighborhood in southern Iraq, an American official and an official in Basra said.
About 250 soldiers wearing night-vision goggles and carrying specially equipped rifles stormed a house in the Junainah neighborhood of Basra, intending to capture the operative, whom the spokesman for the British military in Iraq identified as Omar al-Faruq, an Iraqi. They were fired upon as they entered, and shot back, killing Mr. Faruq.
The British military spokesman, Maj. Charles Burbridge, said Mr. Faruq was “a terrorist of considerable significance†who had been hiding in Basra…’
Niiiiiiiiiice!
September 26th, 2006 at 3:41 pmCome on guys read the link Beware The NIE
It’s a mistake, and a dangerous one, to confuse anti-Americanism with terrorism. Even states that militantly oppose U.S. policy in the Middle East, such as Iran and Syria, haven’t used terrorist proxies against us. Violent insurgencies, such as Hezbollah and Hamas—along with Islamist insurgencies in Pakistan, Kashmir, Chechnya, Algeria and the Philippines—haven’t attacked us, either.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:43 pmTobey,
September 26th, 2006 at 3:44 pmThat makes no sense. Why would you keep quiet about it? Because it would lead some to believe that there is a bigger war on terror now and we must continue to do stupid things like invade other countries? Shining a light on the ineptness allows people to see what it is really for. Keeping quiet and staying the course is not a wise choice.
#12 Wow, another Al-Queda operative is killed in Iraq.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:48 pmI hope no one steps up and takes his place, or this shit could go on forever.
#7, AnAmerican – he has plenty to hide… from the terrorists. It’s not that he wants to hide the information from Americans, it is that he wants to hide the informaion from the terrorists so he doesn’t let them know they are winning, which will embolden them. It would be just as bad as leaving.
But for some reason, he IS releasing it. Will it be on time? Will portions be censored? Will he change his mind? They sad the report could come out as early as THIS afternoon – but so far no show.
This stuff gives me a headache.
BTW… I in now way support Bush. The first paragraph was simply playing devils advocate, and also laying down my view of what I think they will say later on. It would be cool to also be one to say “I called it!” just like Colbert does.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:48 pm#12… Exley… eahhh woohoo! Death is awesome! So cool to get excited about death, even if it’s an enemy.
Yes, I am glad someone who wants to harm me has been stopped, but how many times have we heard all heard of an opperative getting killed? Doesn’t seem to do anything, someone else takes their place.
I’d be so bold as to say I DON’T want them dying because for every opperative that dies, 2 more take their place. Maybe we should stop killing and find another way to deal with the number we have, like creating some kind of civil connection.
Remember, those people in Iraq did NOT attack us, so why kill them for the events on 9/11? It’s like letting blacks kill whites because of slavery in the past. White people now a-days don’t have slaves and don’t agree with slavery (well… not all, but a lot.) And even those who support the idea of slavery shouldn’t be killed because of what their ancestors did.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:52 pmFox News future headline
TERRORISM HAS GOT WORSE
Actual headline
The ‘War in Iraq Has Made Terrorism Worse’
Truthful headline
September 26th, 2006 at 3:58 pmMore terrorism IN IRAQ than ever before
It’s a mistake, and a dangerous one, to confuse anti-Americanism with terrorism.
Exley,
That is good news. Good work by the Brits. I hope it was the #2 guy in charge of Al Qaeda, because I don’t think they’ve gotten him yet.
September 26th, 2006 at 4:06 pmAnother secret report? I bet this one includes the notes from the Rove/Haliburton/Chaney/Bush/Rice that clearly shows they are bent on the subjugation of the world.
September 26th, 2006 at 4:10 pmExley and bluefish
Ok you got 1 al-queda guy this month ( woopadee do day ) they got 63 americans , 3 brits , 1 italian and a 1 Dane just in the last 26 days
And their Al-Qieda guy will be replaced immediately , 2.62 troops a day compared to 1 Al-Queda bloke eh ……
You certainely are losing the war on Karma or Oil or Anti Americanism or whatever you call the war — the war on terrorism is against Bin Laden and thats lost too
September 26th, 2006 at 4:15 pmAn angry President George W. Bush says he will declassify an intelligence document that reportedly finds that the Iraq war increased the terrorist threat to the United States, saying the American people should come to their own conclusions.
See he will manipulate the report to his own needs that headlines on Yahoo BUT will be on fox soon
here it is again
September 26th, 2006 at 4:38 pmIraq war increased the terrorist threat to the United States ?????? surely he means Threat to the United States soldiers in Iraq ???????
#17 “Yes, I am glad someone who wants to harm me has been stopped”
That’s all I was saying. I am glad when someone who belongs to an organization which hijacks civilian airliners and flies them into buildings in NYC, killing thousands — which sets off car bombs in crowded out door markets or near mosques in Baghdad, killing dozens of innocent Iraqi men, women and children — which sets off IEDs that kill and maim U.S. troops –which decapitates hostages, is stopped.
Thanks to those British forces, that animal won’t be hurting anyone ever again. And that is a reason to be glad.
September 26th, 2006 at 5:01 pm#4 Even if it’s a threat they created and/or made much worse. That’s a strong suit ?!? “We’re protecting you from the enemy by creating many more of them.” Give me a break. You have to ignore a lot of facts to believe that… oh crap, we’re in trouble.
September 26th, 2006 at 5:05 pm2700 dead – the number was on the CNN crawl. A sorry, sad statistic – part of Bush’s legacy.
September 26th, 2006 at 5:09 pmLet’s not forget the callous fool called the Iraq debacle merely a “comma” on the pages of history.
I’m glad to see that Exley has borrowed someone’s conscience and says:
I am glad when someone who belongs to an organization which hijacks civilian airliners and flies them into buildings in NYC, killing thousands — which sets off car bombs in crowded out door markets or near mosques in Baghdad, killing dozens of innocent Iraqi men, women and children — which sets off IEDs that kill and maim U.S. troops –which decapitates hostages, is stopped.
I am now waiting for the other shoe to drop and for Exley to call for the immediate arrest of george bush and his collaborators in the Iraq invasion. Since this group is responsible for the heinous and horrific murders of over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children, Exley, with its newfound conscience, must be livid.
I hope that the attainment of a conscience is not temporary for Exley.
September 26th, 2006 at 5:22 pm#26 -0 Marie,
September 26th, 2006 at 5:37 pmSadly, we can expect that that number will climb to 3500 by the time Bush leaves office, 150,000 if he decides to invade Iran (Excluding collateral casualties on the US mainland.).
Keeping 2 sets of books, how pathetic. release the least damaging one and try to keep the horrible one secret.
September 26th, 2006 at 6:11 pmWhich drops bombs on houses killing innocent Iraqi men, women and children? But it’s okay that Clinton bombed innocent Iraqi’s in the 90’s?
Which shoots innocent unarmed civilians and tries to cover it up? An indictment of our armed forces because of a few undisciplined soldiers? You wouldn’t want the same standard used on progress…I mean regressives? (That’s all liberal regressives do. Argue about the past.)
That uses white phosphorous and poisons the soil and the environment of a whole city? Uh, the ISG found that Saddam had phosphorous, but you’re okay with that? (so he did have WMD) Saddam used worse on people and the environment. But you’re okay with that?
That sells the necessary materials to build WMDs used on Iraqi civilians? Clinton sold nuclear secrets to Iran and China. China even gave him loads of cash in return. But that’s okay with you.
Seems you’re the last people to be telling who’s house should be cleaned and more concerned what heavy duty disinfectant you should be using on your own shit hole of a house.
September 27th, 2006 at 12:01 amMore paranoid speculation from leaking liberals who would rather politicize cherry-picked intelligence and undermine the war that was declared on us many years ago. When will liberal regressives finally figure out that we don’t need them to be useful idiots for the enemy? Either help us defeat our enemies or go fight with them. No wonder we can’t trust Democrats with national security. To them if fighting the enemy is unpopular then we should retreat.
TP links describes a report, not even an NIE as TP tells us, that nobody really knows anything about. But for TP Regressives, rumours trump facts.
The report has not been shared with Congress, although sources say a draft version may have circulated earlier this summer. It is a separate report from the one revealed by major news outlets Sunday, which is said to conclude that the war in Iraq has made the U.S. less secure from terrorist threats.
“This morning at the National Press Club, Jane Harman did say that there is an [National Intelligence Estimate] on Iraq,” her spokesman, Ari Goldberg, confirmed. Golberg said he had not read the report, but believes it may be grim. Sources at the event say the document is not officially an NIE, although it was prepared by the National Intelligence Council, an community-wide intelligence body whose primary function is to prepare NIEs.
Dr. Lawrence Korb, a former senior Defense Department official now with the liberal-progressive Center for American Progress, hasn’t seen the report but has discussed it with those who have.
September 27th, 2006 at 12:16 amFKSP…we need to see a little bit better than that…your stupidity won’t even be challenged in this group…take it to LGFB…LMFAO.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:12 amSeems you’re the last people to be telling who’s house should be cleaned and more concerned what heavy duty disinfectant you should be using on your own shit hole of a house.
