“Simply put, many Europeans and other international players are put off by the overwhelming number of American PGA Tour players who identify themselves as George Bush-loving Republicans who support the US occupation of Iraq.” Many European golfers believe “they’ll be crucified in American locker rooms and newspapers if they publicly oppose Bush, his fundamentalist Christian agenda or the Iraq war.”
Yes, but the Americans SUCKED again this year at the Ryder Cup, so at least the Euros can cheer about that!
September 26th, 2006 at 1:38 pm[Bush to Gannon] “…Now feel this drive.”
I didn’t realize golf was, well, so gay. LOL!!!
September 26th, 2006 at 1:40 pmSuch freedom loving Americans.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:41 pmHow about a nice drive–over a cliff.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:43 pmWow, I hadn’t realized there were so many PGA members who were bushbots, I guess smacking a little ball with a big stick isn’t a sign of intelligence afterall.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:44 pmcold, callous, uncaring misanthrope….”now watch this drive”!
September 26th, 2006 at 1:44 pmIt’s a shame he can’t golf with a S— either!
September 26th, 2006 at 1:45 pmI am not surprised that europeans don’t understand bush support among americans. CNN international is farther left than CNN here. When you watch the slant, you would wonder how bush could get 59 votes, not to mention the 59 million. Is this an objective indication of bias?
September 26th, 2006 at 1:50 pmCrucified…by who? They kicked the shit out of us in the Ryder Cup. If I was them I would say “Bring it on”….Well, maybe not in those words exactly, but you get my point.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:50 pmWho cares > I think golfing is a dumb sport, so if most are Republicans, then it proves that golf is for certified idiots > lol.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:52 pma few years back the only democrat on tour was Scott Simpson. These guys aren’t exactly reading Noam Chomsky in their spare time. When you are given the idea that the world is waiting with baited breath to hear why you hit five iron vs. six iron your mind gets a little mushy.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:54 pmi think this is a great post
September 26th, 2006 at 1:54 pmDo you guys have that image in a higher resolution you can e-mail me?
September 26th, 2006 at 1:57 pmI hope these freaks took God’s hint last weekend.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:58 pm#13 You want it for your George Bush in a sweat-stained blue shirt collection, don’t you, Spudge_Boy? LOL. :)
September 26th, 2006 at 2:01 pmHow many of their kids are in Iraq?
Yeah, we thought so.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:05 pmThe dialectic of this offensive consists of a calculated shift from the old, discredited Soviet practice to a new, ‘liberalized’ model, with a social democratic facade, to realize the communist planners strategy for establishing a United Europe. At the beginning they introduced a variation of the 1968 Czechoslovakian ‘democratization.’ At a later phase they will shift to a variation of the Czechoslovakian takeover of 1948.

September 26th, 2006 at 2:06 pmNew Lies for Old, 1984
I grew up in the same small town as Lehman. He’s been a ‘devout’ Christian for a long time. I also play a lot of golf & enjoy it immensely.
But, this isn’t about golf. It’s about Christofascists. They’re more apparent in golf because many of them were raised ‘Country Club’ style, & reflect that in political & religious views. It’s the same in Board rooms & the ‘Corporate scene’.
So what? We’re all Americans. Does that make all of us religious golfers? No, of course not. Does the fact the Euro’s kicked our asses make them the Antichrist? No.
The support the Americans showed Ireland’s Darren Clarke for his recently deceased wife was overwhelming. It was some of the greatest TV I’ve ever seen.
You see the problem here? We, (liberals), are trying to ensnare all golfers into a political arena. THEY DON’T MIX!
Folks, let’s keep sports & politics separate. The next thing that might happen is someone may get shot in the face. No, that could never happen!
September 26th, 2006 at 2:08 pmBush ignored Osama prior to 911.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:10 pmWho cares if some snide pro-bush golf pansy tells you want to think or say in the locker room? This is a textbook case of American arrogance. Anyone who has any experience in dealing with loud-mouthed American tourists should be able to handle this situation without a problem.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:17 pmI thought the US team was just a bunch of rich self centered crybabies.
They get a lot more dough versus the European PGA for sure.
Being the best ranked golfers didn’t matter, they lacked a soul and spirit (funny, they think they are religious-God of money I guess).
It’s sad to see golf dragged down by politics, and sadder that it is becomming so grotesquely polarized.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:19 pmI believe David Duval is also a staunch Democrat. The fact is that most American PGA members are republican. I think it has to do with the fact that golf used to be a sport only the rich played and the folks that run it are ‘old school’. I certainly love golf myself and lately, I have played better when I imagine that Bush is the tiny what ball that I get to smack as hard as I can with club.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:38 pmWhat sport do progressives play?
September 26th, 2006 at 2:41 pmDodging bullets from the right and retaking the hill.
Right now President Bill is the champ.
Why would the world care about the political opinions of American or European golfers. They’re golfers, not political science professors, pundits or politicians. I don’t await baseball analysis from Senators. When was the last time you heard an NFL wide receiver publicly state his opinion on the state of healthcare?
September 26th, 2006 at 2:42 pmTiger Woods wasn’t mentioned in the article. I guess we’d all assume he’s a Democrat because he’s young, Stanford-educated and non-white (I believe he prefers “Cablinasian.”) Then again, he’s fantastically wealthy.
I’m not into celebrity worship but I’d be interested in what he thinks.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:46 pmSorry, but who gives a shit? Really…
September 26th, 2006 at 2:50 pmHey Paul….Bush didn’t get the votes….Diebold did – for him. That’s why the Europeans can’t understand it – neither can we…until we realize that he never was legitimately elected by the people……Diebold fixed the vote in 2000 and 2004.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:53 pmWho then are the people in the locker rooms doing the crucifiction? Are they not players as well? So my question is… how many in the locker room are players who don’t really support Bush, and how many really do?
This article makes it sound like MOST of the players just say they support Bush so they don’t get crucified, but then who is left in the locker room to be the one to do the crucifying?
September 26th, 2006 at 2:54 pmOh wait.. might it be PGA players versus all regular average Americans who also play golf, and who are the ones who can choose to guy the PGA players murchandice? It may also be the PGA players versus the companies that sponser them – large corperations who actually love Bush.
Hmmm… now this has me thinking.
September 26th, 2006 at 2:56 pmYou know it wayne. That is one of my favorites.
Here is my other:
http://quest.cjonline.com/images/100700/bushLR.jpg
and another good one of Bush wearing a giant dress (not really)

September 26th, 2006 at 2:59 pmAmerican PGA tournament players are predominantly conservative Republicans? Really? I’m shocked. Just shocked.
Next, you’ll tell me the earth is round, or the Pope is Catholic.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:21 pmMost professional athletes in the US are Bush supporters. They are in the top 2% of Americans who get the Bush tax cuts.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:30 pmGolf is a fruity sport(?) anyway.
September 26th, 2006 at 3:38 pmI totally agree with the statement on the PGA , it is christian to the extreme . Crenshaw made a statement on the pga webb site to the support of Bush and asking for members to vote for him . Cory Pavin was strongly suggested to accept Christ , for a while with the exception of TIGER WOODS most members wore a bracelet with the statement what would Jesus do ? Certainly Jesus would not agree with the bizare behaviour of GW. I would not suggest that Jesus is unhappy with the PGA and that is the reason it got its ass kicked at the Ryder cup … again…just a coincidence .
September 26th, 2006 at 3:50 pmThe pga membership is mostly Dixiecrats .
September 26th, 2006 at 3:53 pmWell Oxillini,
Lynn Swann opens his yap about politics all the time, he’s still a good wide reciever to me, but should shut up about politics.
September 26th, 2006 at 4:00 pmYep, a whole tour of Shooter McGavins
September 26th, 2006 at 4:02 pmBreaking NEWS:!
September 26th, 2006 at 4:05 pmThe USA Squash, Equestrian and Polo teams side with Bushco. !!!
Actually the pga membership mostly represents an American attitude : we are the biggest , the stongest , the richest , i believe the gop embrace that motto , that’s why we get our asses kicked by everybody with such glee that may indicate we lost the respect of the world . Thank you Georgie Girl .
September 26th, 2006 at 4:08 pmForTruth,
Lynn Swann is running for some office somewhere as a republican, so I kind of doubt he will shut his trap about politics.
Looks like it is Governor of Pennsylvannia:
http://www.swannforgovernor.com/
September 26th, 2006 at 4:09 pmOne of the pga tour players . . . . I’ll just call him Kenny, said
that the reason he voted for bush was . . . .
‘Well, I just think he talks about God and he’s a
christian man . . . . and that’s what I’m about.’
Some of the others were real dandies as well.
I think I burned that mag. at the stake after shooting it with
September 26th, 2006 at 4:11 pmmah skattah gun.
Good scribe.I remember Paul Azinger verbally lashing out at Greg Norman for letting Bill Clinton stay at his Florida home for one night during a campaign stop. Most of them just loathed President Clinton.David Duval is about the only Dem out there.
September 26th, 2006 at 7:29 pmPGA golfers average earnings were $884,000 in 2005… OF COURSE they are going to be mostly Republicans!
September 26th, 2006 at 11:29 pmThe PGA golfers average earnings in 2005 were $884,000… of course they are Republicans!
September 26th, 2006 at 11:32 pmMinor point, Grey Eagle: the “WWJD” thing (it was a bead bracelet with those four letters, not the whole phrase) was in honor of the late Payne Stewart, who used to wear such a bracelet and actually made some attempt to live up to it.
Stewart never got to vote in the 2000 election – his plane crashed on October 25, 1999.
He was widely loved and widely mourned. But if anyone is still wearing a “WWJD” bracelet after almost seven years, it’s for some other reason.
September 27th, 2006 at 12:16 pmFor what it’s worth. Tiger Woods is a military brat (Army I think) so his being Republican would not be surprising. On the religion side, his mother brought him up Buddhist.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:51 pmDoes anyone _really_ believe Fuzzy Zoeller’s comments about “watermelon and fried chicken” (when Tiger Woods won the Masters) was an abberation? Undoubtedly, most USA PGA players were secretly laughing in aggreement.
And forget about the US winning the next Ryder Cup either. Paul Azinger as captain? Man, they must be desperate.

Still, I believe some people (like me) think in different way regarding this topic

Over the years your bodies become walking autobiographies, telling friends and strangers alike of the minor and major stresses of your lives.

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.

Interesting opinions which are diverse and give reason to a great deal of thought.
