Monday on Fox News’s Your World With Neil Cavuto, Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) said that Sunday’s New York Times story on the new National Intelligence Estimate and the ensuing public discussion are “putting lives in danger” because terrorists are monitoring “these satellite broadcasts.” Additionally, terrorists are monitoring and utilizing “political posturing” and “cheap shots” in the blogosphere “to their own advantage.” Watch it:
Hayworth’s comments reflect similar statements that the right-wing has repeatedly used to discourage media criticism. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld recently stated that the terrorists are “manipulating the media” to turn Americans against the war in Iraq.
Full transcript below:
HAYWORTH: We’re fighting the wrong war at the wrong time. The public discussion has moved from thoughtful criticism to just political gotcha. That is harmful, but the bottom line is I believe we’re putting lives in danger by exposing sources and methods. And let’s understand this doesn’t occur in a vacuum, Neil. Our enemies monitor these satellite broadcasts. Our enemies utilize the blogosphere to their own advantage. Let’s not forget a few years ago, al-Zarqawi and al-Zawahiri saying the Americans will wear down with the Vietnam Syndrome. Thoughtful criticism is always welcome. Political posturing and cheap shots are not.
CAVUTO: Congressman, thank you very much.
ding ding ding…gaydar going off big time.

September 27th, 2006 at 2:07 pmFrom Glenn Greenwald article - Unclaimed Territory - today:
“It really is odd and disturbing, as well as potentially quite dangerous, that the declassified NIE on the “Trends on Global Terrorism†focuses exclusively on Islamic terrorists — except for the last section which conspicuously identifies “leftist†groups which use the Internet as a serious terrorist threat (h/t Sysprog). Odder still, it makes no mention at all of right-wing, anti-government movements (such as, say, the one that spawned Timothy McVeigh, an actual terrorist).â€
September 27th, 2006 at 2:08 pmThoughtful criticism is always welcome. Political posturing and cheap shots are not.
So, are the Republicans going to continue to “stay the course” and attack the “America-hating liberals” for being “traitors” who “appease the enemy”?
September 27th, 2006 at 2:09 pmJ.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) said that Sunday’s New York Times story on the new National Intelligence Estimate and the ensuing public discussion are “putting lives in danger†- - Yeah, unlike Judith Miller’s reporting, eh?
September 27th, 2006 at 2:11 pmI also like how Cavuto’s show is called “Your world” That’s to “reassure” us that our thoughts are actually our own and not what we’re being fed by Cavuto and Co. Bullshit………..Fox is not my world no matter how many times the thugs on the right scream it or banner it across their government owned TV programs. “your world”…………INDEED
September 27th, 2006 at 2:11 pmJust another reason Democrats should never go on FOX.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:12 pmDid he offer up a suggestion to this problem with the free media and dissent?
Is it just me or does Hayworth look like a zombie?
September 27th, 2006 at 2:12 pmActually, let me rephrase that:
BRAAAIIINSSSS!
September 27th, 2006 at 2:14 pmThe terrorists HAVE been monitoring.
They have take note that the American President and his Republican sycophants are lying fascist war mongering failures who don’t give a shit about the Unites States, The Constitution, it’s Citizens or the Military.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:14 pmLooks like somebody forgot to comb their hair this morning.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:17 pmwhoaaaaaaa!! WHO’S MANIPULATING THE MEDIA?? Again, whatever the neocons claim, believe the opposite. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago Rummy called people who didn’t buy his particular brand of bullshit, “fascists”….this is the pot calling the kettle black.
Just listen to that which the GOP is carping on (talking points) to see where their problems lie….they are always in CYA mode, and justifiably so - with all of their skeletons and baggage flying out of the GOP closet these days.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:18 pmAlso, when they emphasize something like “we don’t torture” believe just the opposite….again, their talking points bespeak their ills…..just put your ear to the ground and listen carefully…..if it isn’t a blatant lie and you know it….begin to look at what they are choosing to spin….and therein lies the next document/report/situation which is haunting them.
Right after that they segwayed to a story about shopping tips.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:18 pmYeah, blogs are the reason the neo-con war isn’t going well. It couldn’t be that they were thought up and now led by idiots and cowards.
By the way, someone please throw Hayworth a banana. If you don’t he may sling his crap at you……oh yeah….he already did. He opened his mouth and spoke.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:20 pmThis moron is a former Phx TV station sports guy….great qualifications, huh? He is as dumb as a bag of hammers, but alot of people in Phoenix like him. One, of many reasons, that I will never live there.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:20 pmIf terrorists had a choice in weapons between using “political posturing and cheap shots” or using a bomb, don’t you suppose they’d go with the bomb? Yeah, me too.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:22 pmA free society is our strength. The ones who are manipulating the information are the problem.
Well said ruskindoc
September 27th, 2006 at 2:26 pmWhat does he think we should do about it? I’ll bet he thinks we should start rounding up bloggers and shutting down their sites.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:27 pm“We’re fighting the wrong war at the wrong time. ”
No shit!!
So while we’re fighting the wrong war at the wrong time the American people are supposed to quietly attend as the death and destruction in Iraq and Afghanistan, caused by Bush’s failed action, builds up to a an even more deadly creshendo?
“Thoughtful criticism” was ignored.
Expert militairy criticism from Generals was, and is still being, ignored.
Planning for Iraq after the war was forbidden by Donald Rumsfeld who threatened to fire anyone who tried to make things actually work.
This jackass would like us to shut up about that too.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:27 pmJ.D. Hayworth, et al…. These guys just make shit up and crap it out like it’s based on some sort of objective fact-finding investigation.
Oy!
September 27th, 2006 at 2:27 pmLiberals help the enemy, which is why liberals are traitors. Liberals should be rounded up and put into re-education camps and instead of making them wear orange jumpsuits they should wear red, white & blue jumpsuits. And they would have to say the pledge of allegiance every morning … because we all know how much liberals hate anything patriotic.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:28 pmReichWingNuts can’t be this dumb, can they?
September 27th, 2006 at 2:28 pmwow another clueless idiot who would have guessed it , beam that idiot up scotty
September 27th, 2006 at 2:29 pmThe GOP obsession with Osama bin Laden’s opinions is really amazing. They think everything we say or do in America ought to be based on what some terrorist killer living in a cave might think.
I swear, if bin Laden issued a tape tomorrow saying the Earth is round, these idiots would immediately pass a law saying the Earth is flat.
I’m an American. I’ll decide what I do or say based on what I think is best for America, not on speculation on the opinion of some terrorist. The GOP can let terrorists dictate its views; I don’t.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:30 pmFunny, so do ours. We just call ours trolls, instead of implying that they are working with the terrorists.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:32 pmhey a …mr j.d. …..proove it…..HELLO…PROOVE IT…..LINK PLEASE…PROOF BOY…who’s trying to hurt America????? WHO????….try REPUPBLICANS…
September 27th, 2006 at 2:34 pmTranslation: Criticism is welcome! Provided nobody actually intends to do something about it when we ignore that criticism and call those who point out our abject failures traitors.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:35 pmOBL is monitoring T/P cheap shots and that does him any good exactly ho so?????? These people are soooooooooo desperate to stifle criticism and dissent. And exactly where were these fools when the media and right wingnuts were all abuzz about Clinton unzipping his pants. Why wasn’t there a call then for tempering the rhetoric. Pathetic fools appearing on pathetic cable “news” show. Pathetic, all of them.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:35 pmNever trust a guy whose eyes are joined. They tend to be a little myopic.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:35 pmGOP Cowards Claim “Free Speech” Helps Terrorists
This bunch of Republicans has got to be the most un-American group of lying cowards I have ever seen.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:37 pmFree and uncensored information is the archenemy of oppression, ie; it is the cornerstone of “freedom”. Anyone who attacks the vehicles of information, no matter what their justifications are, has agendas which are dubious at best and evil at worst.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:38 pmBy “manipulating the media” I’ll assume that what Rummy meant was that everytime an insurgent kills someone in Iraq it’s in the media. Yeah, those insurgents are clever fellas. See, if we just didn’t report bad stuff, it would never happen in the first place.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:40 pmWhen I look at Rep. J.D. Hayworth what I expect him to say is; “What’s it gonna take to get you in this car today?â€
September 27th, 2006 at 2:40 pm#23…I think you are just making this stuff up and you like to see how your stupid comments look after they post.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:41 pmsee how good you can look if you get some amphetamines and a personal stylist
September 27th, 2006 at 2:41 pm#33 — Absolutely correct. That’s why the Nazis had their little book burning parties. As someone else pointed out — the guy is basically as stupid as a box of rocks. Perhaps, the enhanced brow ridge gave it away.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:41 pmtd
Bin Laden is no dummy. He knows what he is doing when he releases those tapes. It is called reverse psychology.
You see he releases tapes repeating liberal viewpoints, in the hopes that America will continue to vote Republican, he knows Americans hate him, and thus he knows a certain segment will vote GOP just to spite him, so he uses that.
Think about it, why do these tapes always seem to surface when the Republicans are in trouble? It is because Bin Laden wants the Republicans there, they have thus far achieved most of Bin Laden’s goals and the longer they are in power, the more power radical Islam gets, and the weaker America gets. America has alienated its allies, racked up huge debts, and is now unprepared for natural disasters, the collapse under Republican leadership is just a matter of time.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:42 pmNeo-Conservatives label Liberals as the enemy, which proves neo-conservatives are against free speech and dissention. Neo-conservatives would like to have Liberals rounded up and put into concentration camps rather than be held accountable by Liberals for the damage the neo-conservatives are doing to American values. The neo-conservatives claim that flag waving, reciting the pledge of allegiance every morning, and putting a pretty ribbon sticker on your car makes you patriotic, regardless of what the rest of your actions do to the country and its values. Neo-conservatives talk about hate so much because they have an intimate relationship with the emotion.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:45 pmCleary Representative Bass (NH) and Representative Hayworth don’t see eye to eye on this one.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:46 pmOkay - Representative Hayworth.
Tell us how to deal with the following problem:
There are stories that the NIE prepared prior to the Iraq invasion was not read in its entirety and/or key parts were ignored.
Currently - the president is portraying the prospects for Iraq one way, while the most recent NIE is presenting the prospects in a far more dire light.
I must remind you - regardless of your political party that
You Are A Representative Of The American People. Accordingly, You Were Not Elected To Play Games With Information To Keep Your Politcal Party In Power. Like Some Sleazy Cold-War Era Soviet Politician.
This all could have been dealt with “nice and neat” and via all due protocol if You Or Some Of Your Comrades had simply broke ranks with your party and provided the correct information to the citizens of this nation. You could have controlled the content to make sure no “sensitive” information got to our enemies. Tell the citizens there is more information that they have to consider in order to intelligently consider this matter. Present the true realities.
You opted not to do this. You put your party before the citizens of this nation. But America will always be free - free from terrorists AND free from Mickey Mouse politicians like you. Regardless of your attempts to obfuscate and your games. It is just a matter of time.
And last, but certainly not least - Rep. Hayworth - you are a fraud. A complete and absolute fraud.
There is nothing in the NIE report that can get anyone killed.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:48 pmThoughtful criticism is always welcome. Political posturing and cheap shots are not.
J. D. Hayworth
I’m thinking he ment that for Sean Vanity and Rush Limberdick.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:49 pmSooooo…in other words….when the public has too much information on how screwed up their government is, the public’s fear of terrorism transforms to anger towards their government and that is not how we want the game played. We’ll tell you what you need to know, cuz you have enough to worry about……..
Red pill please…..
September 27th, 2006 at 2:53 pmAt Least Blogosphere can communicate honest opinions ( right or left wing)
With Bush its lies, spin and propaganda
September 27th, 2006 at 2:54 pm“war is my last choice” no sorry i mean diplomacy is my last choice
since the shit hit the fan , the neocons , the torturers , the war mongers all repubs just pushed the paic button .
September 27th, 2006 at 2:57 pm“It really is odd and disturbing, as well as potentially quite dangerous, that the declassified NIE on the “Trends on Global Terrorism†focuses exclusively on Islamic terrorists — except for the last section which conspicuously identifies “leftist†groups which use the Internet as a serious terrorist threat (h/t Sysprog). “Leftist” groups will be defined as any group that does not serve Dear Leader. They have set the stage. They will come for you eventually.
It is time to take a stand. Tell your friends. Oct. 5th might be one of the last opportunities we will get to save our country and ourselves. You will sit by and wait for politicians of any stripe to save you at your own peril.
.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:58 pmHow old is J.D.? He looks like Army volunteer material to me.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:58 pmI really don’t believe liberal/progressives are traitors. They have a point of view I don’t agree with. The issue I have with them is that if you don’t agree with them they get testy and start calling names. And all he said was the people that want to kill you are reading what is on this and other blogs. Just as we are reading an analyzing there stuff.
September 27th, 2006 at 2:58 pmOCT. 5TH
.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:02 pmProgressives. you can do what you want, but you should probably let the NIE report die. Here’s why: you jumped on the sentence leaked that says the war in iraq is causing more terrorists. now the administration has the ability to say, okay we will release the report edited for security. obviously that includes all the info unhelpful to democrats. to counter, democrats have to say: ‘let’s see the unedited report’. the administration counters with: ‘if we do it will jeopardize security’. (believe it or not, it is reasonable to believe, that a classified report could have security sensitive information in it). fairly or not, it paints you as more concerned with politics than security. so whether you or right or wrong, take a pass on this one. it could be the nail in the coffin for your chances in november.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:05 pmMedia criticism of the administration is fine. Freedom of speech is the purest of American values. Unfortunately, liberal wackos like the fools on this site can’t see the difference between criticism and treason. Publishing national security secrets is dangerous, and may I add, ILLEGAL. Don’t let your hatred for the Bush administration blind you to the complete and utter lack of honor and integrity displayed by news organizations who routinely publish information that will put our troop’s lives in danger. Save your “criticism” for after the war, please.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:06 pmAnother ignorant GOP scumbag. Throw them all out of office.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:08 pmJD hasn’t gotten the memo…
…explaining that HE’s the enemy…
September 27th, 2006 at 3:09 pmPaul,
September 27th, 2006 at 3:12 pmDemocrats should be able to see the unedited report. As a matter of fact its required. The unedited version is for public release. I don’t think anyone here thinks that an unedited version would be released publicly. As far as letting it drop…um…no.
Congressman .your friends are Iran , the shiites , al quaida , the taliban all the terrorrists . Your enemies are 75 % of the american people .The administration and its supporters have commited treasonable offenses and that’s why you are all in a state of panic
September 27th, 2006 at 3:14 pmSpeaking of the Blogosphere,
http://news.yahoo.com/ s/ ap/ 20060927/ ap_on_go_co/ congress_terrorism
Looks like Bush is going to get his Military Commissions just in time to put people on trial in October. We’ll get treated to testimony elicited under torture proving Bush prevented countless terrorist attacks and is winning the war on terror played out nightly clear up to the elections.
May those who support this legislation be subjected to its provisions.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:14 pmNEWS FLASH !!
This is great news for Patriotic Americans but bad news for liberals.
7-11 just announced they are dropping Citgo. YEA !!!
This news just has to burn liberals up since they love Chavez.
Looks like liberals lose again.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:14 pmA+Real+American,
So, your position is that “Free Speech” is a great concept as long as the stuff you don’t think is appropriate is censored.
Because you cannot see the blatant contradiction there I know you to be an idiot. Fortunately you were not around 230 years ago. Based upon what I can see, you would have argued that the Declaration of Independence should not be published because it would expose information vital to national security.
I implore you to carefully rethink your position and seek guidance in order to gain an understanding of logic and freedom.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:15 pmSave your “criticism†for after the war, please.
Are you kidding? What kind of patriotic, principled individual would even consider prohibiting critiquing and, if necessary criticizing, one of the most important functions of government in real time to insure that policies, procedures, strategies, and goals are the best that are possible?
September 27th, 2006 at 3:16 pm#52
I couldn’t have said it better. Unfortunately, all liberals care about is making the current administration look bad, and ulimately winning back power. They can’t let it go. They are desperate, because the last month has been bad for Democrats, what with the decrease in gasoline prices, surging economy, and Bush’s rising poll numbers. November is slipping away, and they know it. They are going to grasp at anything they think will reverse the current trend. Fortunately for us Real Americans, this one has blown up in their face, and they can’t do anything about it except exercise as much damage control as possible and hope it goes away.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:16 pmWhat if the whole world could vote in the U.S. presidential election?
http://www.betavote.com/
Kerry 421,770 (88%), Bush 55,242 (11%)
September 27th, 2006 at 3:17 pmThis is great news for Patriotic Americans but bad news for liberals.
Liberals are Patriotic Americans even if you don’t agree with them! Knock off the character assassination of your countrymen!
September 27th, 2006 at 3:19 pmFree speech is such an inconvenient thing for politicians to put up with isn’t it? Just as Truth is inconvenient to liars, and a free press, when exercised, is inconvenient to dictators, and civil rights are inconvenient to fascists. Wow, what an inconvenient country we live in. Well…. love it or LEAVE IT!
September 27th, 2006 at 3:19 pmA+Real+American
So in other words, you feel the freedoms Americans are dying for, should not be protected while those Americans are dying for them then? You feel accountability is a peace time luxury, something to be sacrificed for the sake of expediency? You feel democracy, or the ability to effectively work one, is less important then a war?
Tell me then: What is to stop any unpopular president from starting a war to dodge criticism?
September 27th, 2006 at 3:20 pmAnd all he said was the people that want to kill you are reading what is on this and other blogs. Comment by Kevin
JUst to be sure: Who are these people? The little angry ragheads you see on TV or real people that youve met and threatened for being an american?
September 27th, 2006 at 3:20 pmG-Dawg,
I see that your understanding of economics is as “vast” as your understanding of freedom and democracy. Let me explain.
Citgo sells oil and petroleum products at discounted prices. The demand for oil and petroleum products worldwide far exceeds supply. Therefore, now that 7-11 will pull its contract with Citgo, there are two guaranteed results:
1. The price of gas at 7-11 will rise.
2. Citgo will sell its products to someone else in the world, like China.
And you are rejoicing at this? Sir, you are a moron.

great we can all agree that those bush admin guys involved with the plame cia outing should be held to the treasonous standard.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:22 pmPaul, we learned long ago not to take advice “for our own good” from people who want to BURY US. That would be you. So thanks for all the good wishes, buddy, but the blogoshere will continue to expose lies and liars whether it’s “for our own good” or not.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:22 pm‘Supporting Bush is helping the Terrorests!’………that’s more like the truth.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:24 pm#59 and #60-
You guys are typical liberal fools. Again, and this time listen carefully: PUBLISHING NATIONAL SECURITY SECRETS IS ILLEGAL. It has nothing to do with freedom of speech rights. If this report had been declassified from the beginning, by all means, publish it. Let’s debate the facts. The report was classified for a reason, most likely to protect people and sources of information. Unfortunately, like I said earlier, liberals and Democrats don’t care about protecting anyone, or anything, except their chances of winning elections.

And what “war” are you talking about? I don’t seem to recall any Declaration of War issued. When will i be “over”? Who decides that? I don’t like my freedoms dangling on the whims of any president. You may but that would make you a real unamerican.
By the way you never answer me, which Native American tribe are you from?
September 27th, 2006 at 3:28 pmI got a newsflash for ya, Hayworth: I’m not gonna let al Qaeda dictate what I can or can’t say, okay, pal?
And, um, nice hair by the way. Really. It looks good. On you, anyway.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:29 pm“Thoughtful” comments are always welcome?
Like when Hayworth told CNN’s TV audience after 9/11 that, hey, “the Constitution isn’t a suicide pact, ya know”?

What news organizations are you referencing, American? Certainly not the likes of the hundreds of affiliates of the Fox News Network. They only deliver the propaganda put out by the administration. Never mind that they present a rosy but onesided view of Bush’s Wars in Afganistan and Iraq while putting out falsehoods that get people to believe we are winning both, including the War on Terrorism.
That must be your idea of honor and integrity, pal, but not mine. No, I join with the growing number of distinguished generals who have finally had enough of the BS from Bush and his lackeys, and are telling us like it is. Maybe that will save some lives in the end, instead of sending our young soldiers over there with some mistaken belief that they will be building grade schools and restoring civilization in the name of “nationbuilding” which Bush promised NOT TO DO in 1999 if elected.
You and your ilk would prefer to believe in the lies and propaganda put out by Cheney and Company while letting another few thousand troops die in the process.
Oh, and I guess for you to use a moniker like “A Real American” means the rest of us are unamerican, huh? Unpatriotic, perhaps? I just love sanctimonious asses.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:34 pmA+Real+American,
Since you are factually challenged, let me help you. Publishing national security secrets is not a crime. Now, leaking national security secrets, only if you are bound by oath not to, is a crime.
Of course, freedom lovers like yourself are attempting to make the publishing of such information a crime, and let me now inform you of the company you choose to keep - Stalin (USSR), Hitler (Nazi Germany), Hussein (Iraq).
I beg you, sir, get some education so that; 1) You stop acting like an idiot, and 2) You learn what “freedom” and “democracy” really mean.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:35 pmCoachjason - 19 people voted with 737s in 2001. Perhaps you should pay attention to what the world thinks of your government.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:36 pm“Anyone who is young and not a liberal has no heart. Anyone is old and not a conservative has no brain.” - Winston Churchill
Mr. Churchill said it best. You liberals should try thinking through these “free speech” issues before reacting. You are all heart, and definitely no brains. Get a grip, and get ready for a landslide defeat in November. I’ll be deployed in Iraq at that time, but believe me, I’ll find an Internet connection somewhere over in that hellhole. When I do, I’ll be on this site for 48 hours straight after the general elections, and I’ll be rubbing your elitist, liberal, left-wing kook noses in it.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:36 pmYou can continue to argue with Dear Leader and his minions or you can take a stand against them.

Your saying otherwise does not make it so. Bush has been telling us that everything is going well in Iraq, despite knowing that this is not the case. Americans have a right to know the truth of whether our BLOOD and our MONEY are being lost for a noble cause and successfully. It has everything to do with accountability. If this report had been a glowing report on progress in Iraq is there any doubt that it would have been declassified from the beginning, published, and promoted? Let’s debate the facts, by all means. The report was classified for a reason, most likely to protect people, like those in the executive branch who have lied, distorted, and engaged us and themselves in questionable if not outright illegal activities. Unlike what you said earlier, liberals and Democrats do care about protecting others, such as the innocent, and care about protecting everything contained in the traditional democratic values that have made this country great. The time to trust BushCo is long past, it is time to verify.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:44 pmA+Real+American,
Let me be the first to call “Bullsh*t”. Deployment orders are issues of National Security. You just published yours (if you are in fact in the military, which I sincerely doubt). By your own (misguided) definition, you are a traitorous criminal.
Fools only exceed at hanging themselves and sir, you are a monumental fool.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:44 pmI’ll be deployed in Iraq at that time, but believe me, I’ll find an Internet connection somewhere over in that hellhole. When I do, I’ll be on this site for 48 hours straight after the general elections, and I’ll be rubbing your elitist, liberal, left-wing kook noses in it.
gee, isn’t that against regulations… ya know, the 48 hr awol thingy?

secondly. this you won’t believe, but I am here at TP, not because i want to bury democrats. i am agnostic, a union member, and i believe i am socially progressive (women, minorities, homosexuals; are no different than i am). i don’t want to bury democrats, i want them to step up to the plate a offer a real alternative to the republican party, that i am increasingly having a problem with. help me.

September 27th, 2006 at 3:52 pmDespite your vitriolic attack on me as a liberal, I still want to wish you well on your tour in Iraq and pray for your safe and whole return.
88/ I like that quote from Winston Churchill
Bear in mind that Winston Churchill was the first ever person to use Chemical weapons in Asia ,
Churchill himself was keen to argue that gas, fired from ground-based guns or dropped from aircraft, would cause *only discomfort or illness, but not death* to dissident tribespeople; but his optimistic view of the effects of gas were mistaken. It was likely that the suggested gas would permanently damage eyesight and *kill children and sickly persons, more especially as the people against whom we intend to use it have no medical knowledge with which to supply antidotes.*
Churchill remained unimpressed by such considerations, arguing that the use of gas, a *scientific expedient,* should not be prevented *by the prejudices of those who do not think clearly*. In the event, gas was used against the Iraqi rebels with excellent moral effect* though gas shells were not dropped from aircraft because of practical difficulties […..]
Today in 1993 there are still Iraqis and Kurds who remember being bombed and machine-gunned by the RAF in the 1920s.
Theres Plenty documentation of Churchill and Mustard gas useage just google “winston churchill”+”chemical weapons”

Good luck in Iraq, pal. But you shouldn’t call it a “hellhole” after spending the past half hour talking down to us about it. Fox News NEVER calls it a “hellhole.” In fact, taking a page out of Sean Hannity’s and Laura Ingraham’s assessment of your “hellhole”, I am sure you will only be passing out candy to kids, fixing up schools, and posing for pictures with Cheney and Rummy in the safety of the Green Zone.
As for posting here after the November elections, I hope you do and give us a real picture of what you REALLY find over there. As for us progressives, we’ll be busy celebrating the victory of regaining the House and probably the Senate and maybe getting you and the other soldiers out of Bush’s “hellhole.”
September 27th, 2006 at 3:54 pmBTW make sure you keep calling them “CRAZY CHRISTIANSâ€, us rational christians want no part of them guys….

I agree Coach, I am a Christian and I have no Idea why people support these people that have turned Jesus into some blood cult smite and kill messiah of death. Anyone can,or should see that they only cloak themselves in Relgion and then twist it to suit their hatred. Mcveigh was such a ‘Elohim’ Christian that wanted to do no more than go around and blow up Federal Buildings. David Koresh was also another one of these hate the Government gun nuts.
I do not recognize what form of Christianity they have adopted and twisted into death and destruction that will bring Jesus back to earth. It’s insane to follow such end-times scenarios with what we know today.
The Bush family has a History of selling arms to enemies, WW1 to WW2 to Saddam [Anthrax] to Osama Mujahdeen], Iran Contra,
In the spring of 1918, Bush became chief of the Ordnance, Small Arms, and Ammunition Section of the War Industries Board of Bernard Baruch - a close associate of E.H. Harriman and Clarence Dillon - with national responsibility for government assistance to and relations with weapons companies including Remington (at the time controlled by Percy Rockefeller- who along with Averill Harriman took time to arrange for Harriman’s and Bush’s sons Bunny Harriman and Prescott Bush to be admitted to Yale University’s Skull and Bones in 1916.) Remington dominance of ammunition and small arms contracts during World War I continued during Bush’s government service and many years beyond….

I know how much the Bush people hate Rockefeller but they actually have very close ties. Such is why I am not a Democrat or a Republican.
A Real American here does not seem to be aware of these Orwellian death merchants. A Real American would not sell arms to the enemy.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:55 pmcoachjason,
Glad to see that you are well. However, by what standard do you rate the US as the world leader?
Population? Well, there’s China and India that blow us out of the water there.
By GDP? That darn China name pops up before us there too?
By military might? Shoot, what’s with the Chinese thinking they can outrank us there.
Human rights? Uh oh, that darn torture thing is really plummeting us there.
Or is it by “freedom” and “democracy”? Well, beings that many americans are surrendering their freedoms and could care less about democracy at the moment, I would say that this measure does not bode well for the US right now.
So, what is it then? Oh, I see, it must be in “Debt”. You see, the US ranks #1 in debt to other nations. A dubious honor indeed and I am certain that no other nations will follow us there.
September 27th, 2006 at 3:55 pmWhat’s the difference between ‘An American’ and ‘A Real American’?

It’s called Freedom of Speech and you don’t need to monitor sattelites. Many of the so called Right Blogs contain the same information as the Left blogs. They get their ‘Data’ and cheap shots from the media and politicians past.
Having a President that calls people Islamofascists puts people in danger because that makes Bushes Democratic peace operation a war. Remember this was supposed to bring Democracy into fruiton and not a War on a sovereign nation.
Bin Laden was not a stupid terrorist hunkered down in some cave ignorant of technology or history, he came from a well off and educated Saudi family.

The status of the U.S. as a world leader is, in my opinion, rapidly diminishing because, again in my opinion, the current administration has squandered our moral authority, dimmed our “beacon of democracy”, and replaced human rights with corporate rights.
You have stated that you are a conservative, but I definitely am uncomfortable lumping you in with others who refer to themselves with that label. That’s why I use “neocon” or started posting BushCo (i.e. Bush and company, referring to both “association” and “corporatist”). Do you see this administration, executive and legislative, as “conservative”? If not, how would you describe and/or label their ideology?
September 27th, 2006 at 4:11 pmThe enemy utilized a weakness in Airline security even though Bush was warned a month ahead of time.
The ‘terrorists’ didn’t use blogging to figure out how to get aboard an aircraft, they took flight lessons, they took test flights on Airlines, in fact they had Student Visas, and were not some Ignorant savages hiding out in a cave monitoring sattelite blogger feeds, they figured out, very simply, with no help from Bloggers, Left or Right, how to get boxcutters onto an Airplane.
Steve King is out of touch with Reality.
September 27th, 2006 at 4:12 pmPUBLISHING NATIONAL SECURITY SECRETS IS ILLEGAL.
Bush chose to release the report - are you calling him a traitor? Should he be thrown in jail and tortured? And why did Bush choose to release the report? Because he was taking a beating in the press and there’s an election in November that he doesn’t want Republicans to lose. Republicans don’t care about anything except maintaining power so they can control all the money.

Between 2001 and 2004, Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) received approximately $64,250 in Jack Abramoff-related donations. John Solomon and Sharon Theimer, Lawmakers helped Abramoff tribes get fed money, collected donations, Associated Press, 11/24/05.
While Co-Chair of the House Native American Caucus in 2001, Hayworth held four fundraisers at Abramoff’s luxury skyboxes but did not pay for use of the boxes or report them as gifts. Jon Kamman, Hayworth didn’t report value of skyboxes gifts, Arizona Republic, December 29, 2004. Not until The Washington Post questioned Hayworth about his failure to disclose his skybox fundraising events did a Hayworth aide contact the FEC about the mistake. The aide then announced that the Congressman planned to amend his filings. Susan Schmidt and Jeffrey H. Birnbaum, Tribal money linked to GOP fundraising, The Washington Post, December 26, 2004. Later in 2004, Hayworth filed statements showing that his campaign fund paid the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana nearly $13,000 for use of Abramoff’s suites from 1999 to 2001. John Kamman, Hayworth, 2 others account for skyboxes, Arizona Republic, May 10, 2005.
Hayworth’s chief of staff, Joe Eule, claims that “neither he nor Hayworth had any contact with lobbyist Jack Abramoff regarding the skyboxes and that Hayworth had met Abramoff only once or twice elsewhere.” Kamman, Arizona Republic, Dec. 29, 2004.
Following Abramoff’s plea agreement in January 2006, Hayworth announced he would donate $2,250 in contributions he received from Abramoff personally to the Salvation Army’s Katrina relief fund, but would not give back the “hundreds of thousands” of donations he received from Indian tribes once represented by Abramoff. September 27th, 2006 at 4:15 pmG-Dawg,
Why don’t you take my advice? Okay, let me help you with some facts again. You point to the news brief on the DOW today as evidence of a “booming” economy. The “all time high” that it was flirting with today was established when? (I’ll give you a hint, g.bush was not president). Also, the percentage gain of the DJIA over the ENTIRE period of the current administration does not even exceed the rate of inflation for the same period. For the economically challenged, that means that the DJIA has experienced a NET LOSS for that period.
Would you like to know what the gain on the DJIA was during the Clinton administration?
Sir, you are an idiot, but I am done pleading with you to stop illustrating that fact publicly. Goodbye.

How would the GOP know anything about utilizing “cheap shots†to their own advantage?
P.S. - J.D. Hayworth is nuts
September 27th, 2006 at 5:04 pmHoly Crap! Matthews just took Boehner to the woodshed on Hardball! he constantly badgered him on the War in Iraq, immigration, and “private” Social Security accounts. he must have said “are you in the leadership position in your party or not, take a stand” and he ended by basically calling Boehner a liar on Iraq and said, “You’re right it’s up to the Democrats to find the answers to the questions in Iraq and about terrorism” after November.
September 27th, 2006 at 5:16 pmunbelievable, #128 - I noticed my first post finally showed up, timed at 3:14. It wasn’t there when I made the 4:26 post. On a different thread I wrote a tongue-in-cheek post about this site, that NSA was causing the delay…I wonder, though, was I perhaps close to the truth?
Why hasn’t ThinkProgress started a thread on this?
Instead, we get a thread on Global Warming, 3:20; Broadcasts in Iran, 4:05; and Gay Marriage, 4:58.
The fact that the Senate has already agreed to not filibuster the Military Commission Bill means that Bush is going to get his wish on a silver platter, in time to run his mock trials during October. Let’s face it, the Democrats have handed the Republicans the mid-term elections. It’s over. The notion that we have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people is illusory.
Man-unkind is entering a new and horrible Dark Age. And it’s too late to storm the Bastille.
September 27th, 2006 at 5:26 pmBriseadh+na+Faire
There is still hope. Here in Ohio which handed Bush the last election, the Democratic candidate for governor, Ted Strickland, is ahead by about 22 % and there is an active campaign by “Republicans for Strickland” to get him elected. The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, Sherrod Brown, is also clearly ahead (I think I heard a recent jump from 7 % to 14 %, but I could be wrong here) of incumbent Mike Dewine.

I saw that. Brilliant as always.
I believe in giving most people the benefit of the doubt (some just don’t deserve it), and especially Judd because he gets so much grief for thoroughly researching his information before posting it. It would just be nice to know what’s going on. The fact that he hasn’t said is odd and does make you think…
Why hasn’t ThinkProgress started a thread on this?
I tried to name one time Think Progress posted bad information. I couldn’t. I think they research stuff very carefully before posting new threads. I probably would too if I were them.
Instead, we get a thread on Global Warming, 3:20; Broadcasts in Iran, 4:05; and Gay Marriage, 4:58.
Maybe they were working on those first?
The notion that we have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people is illusory.
I really don’t think the Dems and Repubs are anything more than left and right arms on the same monster. Why I support Independents…

I think we have time to storm the Bastille…. we just don’t have enough people brave enough to join us when we do. So, in that reagrd, I think you are 110% right. America is on her way down. Even my students have been telling me this. I figure that when they pay attention to something like that, it’s huge…
Hopefully TP will post something on the matter soon. I can’t imagine they would just ignore it. And if they do, then we know the answer to all our other questions, huh?

Yes you did. I told you that I speak with them live everyday. One tried to get the principal to make me take down my Halloween decorations on my classroom door because it offends her. She’s lucky he said no or I’d have made sure she would be taking down her very large GOD decorations on her desk. She’s condescending, patronizing and I limit how much I speak with her because none of you cons is rational or capable of intelligent dialog. Why would I waste my time.
Besides, a liberal who posts on conservative blogs gets deleted and banned. So it’s hard to actually have conversations with them other than in reality.
Besides, you posting here is not brave. That was my point. That you thinking it is is proof that you are a coward.
You’re just not very bright Tracy. You’re like the kid in my class who doesn’t get it when the other kids are ridiculing him - because neither of you can tell that you are lacking intellectually. Though, at least this kid is now calling Bush a bad President. So, maybe it’s insulting him to compare him to you…
September 27th, 2006 at 6:31 pmHere we see a key Republican strategy at work: attack your opponent on whatever issue is your own weakness, thereby turning a weakness into a strength. One corollary of this rule is to accuse your opponent of whatever you yourself are guilty of. “Manipulation of the media”? And this from a party that has cynically manipulated the media to convince the American people that the G.O.P. gives a damn about Americans who work for a living.
