Roll Call reports that Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY) issued a statement today in which he said that he informed Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) in early 2006 of allegations of improper contacts between then-Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) and at least one former male page. “Hastert’s response to Reynolds’ warning remains unclear. Hastert’s staff insisted Friday night that he was not told of the Foley allegations and are scrambling to respond to Reynolds’ statement.”
I don’t blame Reynolds for not allowig himself to become the fall guy. Hastert and Boehner are in this up to their eyeballs. Accoutability…it’s a bitch/bastard!
September 30th, 2006 at 5:44 pmResign now, Hastert.
Foley resigned when he was finally caught — try to do as well as that. I know it’s not saying much, but you’re not much to begin with.
Resign.
September 30th, 2006 at 5:45 pmThis is a bit to early for October surprise.
September 30th, 2006 at 5:46 pmWho Else Is A Pervert In The GOP?
30th of September 2006
by Jay Randal
Hypocrisy seems to bite the butts of Republicans, all the time, so the current scandal involving Rep. Foley emailing underage males for sex is NOT surprising!
GOP members tend to put themselves on pedestals of virtue, which makes them a target for sexual scandals, and causes them to fall from grace when exposed too!
Foley maybe a secret closeted homosexual, but since he solicits sex from under 18 teenagers that makes him a sexual predator, so someone who acts like a pervert!
If he had solicited sexual favors from adult males, and not minors, then this issue would be far less a scandal and more of an embarrassment to Republican party!
The GOP boasts a lot about “Family Values,” so they denigrate Gay Americans as immoral and promiscuous, but Republicans hiring hookers reeks of immorality!
Calling for outlawing Gay marriages, or civil unions, is blatant discrimination of minority Human Rights, so the GOP would be wise to stop being hypocrites!

September 30th, 2006 at 6:00 pmIn the State of Florida it is against the law for an adult to be aware of any form of Child abuse and not report it to the DCF or law enforcement. In fact I think it is a felony.
If these congressmen were teachers then they would all be guilty for not immediately reporting it. They could/would be arrested. Hard to think that we would hold high school teachers to a higher standard than the United States Congress?
I am sure that you could do a search and easily find some teacher in Florida who was prosecuted for not notifying authorities of a sexual relationship that they became aware of between a student and another teacher or adult.
September 30th, 2006 at 6:01 pmscramblin’ scramblin’ scramblin’
September 30th, 2006 at 6:02 pmkeep those staffers scramblin’
…
(someone need to finish it for me)
…
It would be just like the Repulican party to throw their boy Foley (catheter) under the bus right about now. Why protect him all this time and then, a little over 30 days before elections, he’s exposed.
The media drools for a good sex scandal, and this really is a good one — if you’re not the victim.
The Dems will lose any focus they managed up until now.
How many of you forgot about Clinton whipping some Chris Wallace ass last weekend? Yeah, I thought so…
September 30th, 2006 at 6:08 pmZooey > this is NOT the kind of news the GOP likes to hear about! Since Hastert and other Republicans are involved in trying to cover it all up, it might end up being the event that sweeps the GOP membership from the House of Representatives! One can hope anyways!
September 30th, 2006 at 6:14 pmBack Later > I have to go mow my lawn before it gets dark > bye all.
September 30th, 2006 at 6:17 pmThe republican leadership knew about the Foley problem for at least 10 months.
But they did nothing.
They knew it would come out sooner or later.
Yet they delayed taking any action.
Then it blew up just a few days ago, just as they are rushing to pass a law that legalizes torture and immunizes administration officials from prosecution for war crimes already committed.
The Foley story erupts just in time to divert media attention from a law that officially makes America a fascist state.
What a coincidence.
September 30th, 2006 at 6:17 pmVote Republican. The party of torture and perversion.
September 30th, 2006 at 6:21 pmThe Republican Party can’t even keep a congressional page safe from a predatory congressman.
How can we expect them to keep us safe from Bin Laden.

How many wheels have come off this damn thing anyhow?
September 30th, 2006 at 6:25 pmHow many wheels have come off this damn thing anyhow?
Comment by GSD
I just want to know how many wheels it has. We must be on at least the 27th wheel by now…
September 30th, 2006 at 6:29 pmWhy is it that honesty is always the last option for Bush Republicans? I bet Karl Rove is busy trying to coordinate all the disparate Republican lies into one homogenous lie they can spout in unison. “Liars are the cause of all the sins and crimes in the world.â€
September 30th, 2006 at 6:34 pmNow we know why Gonzalez isn’t working so hard to find the child sex offenders their all in government employees. First Homeland Security hires child molesters and now our elected officials are using their jobs to molest children. The terrorist are right here in the United States and their leader is George W. Bush. No wonder other countries don’t follow America as the example of Democracy. We have a GOP and White House that uses family values and morals as who they are while rapping our kids. A President that is born again Christian who lies and tortures and is a sick evil person. What happen to America.
September 30th, 2006 at 7:00 pmRepublicans coddle pedophiles. Wait…. Republicans ARE pedophiles.
September 30th, 2006 at 7:53 pmWhat drives me crazy is Shimkus is my congressman, is now breaking his own term limits pledge, is totally ineffective, and NOW is shown to be possibly covering up this mess over a year ago, AND HE’S EXPECTED TO COAST TO REELECTION!!!
AAAAARGH!!! Wake up, Southern Illinois!!!
September 30th, 2006 at 8:11 pmWhy does HASTERT CODDLE PEDOPHILES?
Anyone?
The glaring, obvious and painful truth is they care more about their own political greed than the safety of children.
INDISPUTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!
September 30th, 2006 at 8:14 pmAAAAARGH!!! Wake up, Southern Illinois!!!

September 30th, 2006 at 9:26 pmThe Bush lover trolls will be back on TP in force on Sunday and Monday! They had an emergency meeting with Karl Rove today of how to spin this onto Bill Clinton and/or other Democrats like Barney Frank! Be prepared for their onslaught of propaganda lies and bogus diversions!
September 30th, 2006 at 9:27 pmCheck out my blog for today!
http://comlogic.blogspot.com/
I brought out the G.O.P.arrot to extol the talking point of the Reichwing.
But ChiChiHuaHua, spelled out the differences between Foley and Clinton.
Sheesh, there are soooooo many scandals to cover, makes it real hard to focus on just one.
September 30th, 2006 at 10:01 pmBut it seemed to me that Foley was an important topic to cover. So, he became the focus of my blog today.
Hastert should not just resign. He needs to be charged for obstruction of justice and possibly conspiracy.
September 30th, 2006 at 10:52 pmHastert and Boehner are no better than any of the cardinals in the Catholic church who looked the other way.
September 30th, 2006 at 11:39 pmRather than file charges against Foley last year, they ignored the crime, because Foley is – or was – a shoo in for the House seat.
Politices over morality. That’s how Hastert plays politics – it’s the Republican way.
It helps the progressive cause to use this as a campaign issue – The Republican leadership action is analogous to the actions of covering up pedophilia in the Catholic Church. Now this campaign tactic is somewhat despicable with the limited information we have, but it is the stretch of the campaign season, it is the strategy that Rove would use if this happened in the Democratic party, and -I don’t know if you noticed but – we are in big trouble this election because of changes in the wind these past few weeks.
Need to get back to the Democrats main message: Republican’s cronyism, corruption, incompetence, and trashing of the Constitution.
There are several issues that have occurred that had caused the shift including….
1. “Path to 9-11″ resulting in Bill Clinton defending his own record on Chris Wallace’s program. Although Bill’s assertion is correct, all that a certain 30% of Americans see out of this interview is a red faced BC wagging his finger and lecturing — same image as “I did not have sexual …..â€. It also did not help that Hillary came out in his defense.
After eight long years of his presidency, a lot of people hate the sight of Bill and Hillary Clinton. This is the same as we’ll feel (and already do) about GWB after eight years of his pouting, and arrogance, and head thrusts (yuck).
As much as someone needed to defend his administration’s actions, it should not have been him; it needed to be Richard Clarke or someone more neutral. It brought the focus back to “who’s responsible for not getting Bin LAden pre-9-11″ instead of what to do now about terrorism. THe amount of focus on this issue detracted from what is effective for progressives in the campaign.
OK let’s now put BC back to work on humanitarian roles, but get him out ofthe public eye OR the Repub Revolution people will reappear.
2. THe barrage of bills recently passed solidify the Republican base, as stupid or ineffective or flawed or racist or Unconstitutional or Jingoistic as they may be.
3. They have been (once again) been able to paint Liberals as terrorist lovers and weak on terror. How, because we cannot seem to elicit a clear concise vision here, it works every time. Also it works because (ala Goerring), when called unpatriotic the Democrats just fall into line – no spine, no courage, too much covering one’s own heiny.
Do you mean to tell me that we can’t come up with an effective way to handle terrorism without looking weak? We can’t present this as effective sound bites? It has been freaking 5 years!!! What the hell is the Democratic Leadership doing?
Once again – got to get back to the Republican cronyism, incompetence, and now coverup message.
October 1st, 2006 at 2:20 amLooks like the investigation, castigation, and media attention, is gonna cover the entire time-slot from now upto election time, heh. GOP’s in trouble.
October 1st, 2006 at 2:36 amWow…Three e-mails about me and I wasn’t even on-line all weekend…You folks miss me when I am gone, don’t you???? (especially Zooey…)
Well, for the record, my take on this is that Foley is a vile and odious human being; morally depraved pervert who should be investigated by the House and the FBI. If anyone in the House leadership knew of his sexually explicit e-mails to teenage pages and did nothing, they should step down.
