Reynolds accepted $100k from Foley in July.

According to our Foley coverup timeline, Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY) was informed of Foley’s actions towards House pages in February or March 2006. The New York Daily News reports:

1) “Reynolds’s personal PAC, TOMPAC, wrote Foley a check for $5,000 on May 10, 2006.”

2) “On July 27, 2006, the [National Republican Congressional Committee], which Reynolds chairs, accepted an unusually large contribution of $100,000 from Foley. Hard to imagine something of that size just slipping past the chairman.”

How is it that we can not find enough people to storm the Bastille yet?

I have to say I am in total shock that this is happening.

Wasn’t it the Washington Times about 15 years ago or so, during Bush Sr that reported Male Child Prostitution rings going on inside the White House?

Now we have this FOLEY SCANDAL… it is beyond damming, it is an absolute breakdown in the CREDIBILITY OF LAW AND ORDER.

  5. Zooey says:

Looks like another resignation is in order.

  6. Mimi says:

Reynolds has already admitted he knew about Foley, so one would have to assume there was a little coersion going on, since Reynolds isn’t very well liked this time around in NY.

Wow this would make my day if this scandal takes down Reynolds too.

In my opinion Hastert and Boehner should resign also, since they KNEW about Foley and did NOTHING.

Apparently keeping their seat in congress is more important than protecting our children.

Republicans AGAIN fail to protect Americans

  7. Jay Randal says:

This scandal is growing by the hour and the GOP deserves this for allowing a sexual predator to solicit underage male Pages for sex!

  8. El+Tonno says:

Oh come on people it was all Clinton’s fault and you know it!

  9. Jay Randal says:

Reynolds accepting a $100,000 bribe from Foley to keep his mouth shut is a felony! The GOP leadership of the House are in big trouble!

  10. unbelievable says:

This is the best October Surprise ever!

(Qualification: I mean revealing the corruption and NOT the corruption itself. I genuinely hope no child was molested or harmed and this pervert was revealed before he did anything but talk about it).

  11. Joe Bua says:

$100,000 in pedophile money is still $100,000 to Republicans.

Don’t you see, it doesn’t matter to them how they get there, as long as they do get there.

It’s that Evangelical Fundamentalist “any means to our favored ending” meme that runs rampant in their party. They don’t care about you and me or our kids being hit on by creepy supertanned congressmen, they only care about themselves, their jobs, their bank accounts and suppressing real debate and anything that clashes with their ideology.

Oh, and covering up all their crap.

  12. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party says:

The GOP corruption is finally being exposed and they are unable to spin their way out of it…and it’s only October 1st! Yippeeee!!

  13. dlet says:

Was this the October surprise that Rove promised us? Well done I say.

  14. Marie says:

    blackmail or bribery

  15. Offended says:

Everywhere you look, they are JAMMING HOMOSEXUALITY DOWN YOUR THROATS!

  16. ruskindoc says:

who can anyone “spin” pedophilia?? Good luck, GOP – you’re all going to need it!

  17. Republicans+Are+The+Fear+And+Smear+Party says:

#15….The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks. Very Freudian. Sounds like you’d like some homosexuality jammed down your throat. There’s a difference between homosexuality and pedophilia…please look it up.

  18. hmbnancy says:

This $100K was listed as “excess funds” on opensecrets.org.

There was also a donation from Jack Abramoff to Foley for $2K plus a donation to George Allen for Senate from Foley’s campaign funds.

Here is a [linkhttp://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/expend.asp?CID=N00002898&cycle=2006&Sort=n&Page=1] to expenditures. Go to main page for Foley to see donations from others.

Does this mean anything? Don’t know. Think about an investigation in to Foley and the threads that might lead elsewhere.

  19. Juan+C says:

Foley: Hey, Reynolds take this 100k and ssshhh.
    Reynolds: But why?
    Foley: Im molesting kids.
Reynolds: You want me to throw a party?

  20. FunMe says:

I see a new TV ad coming for the November 2006 elections:

“For the sake of the children, do not ever vote for a Republican again!”

(Photos of Foley and enablers in the background; throw in an FBI arrest if available by then)

  21. George says:

    Hush money!!!!!!!

    Shhhhhhhh……

  22. richb says:

as a Republican the behavior of Foley and the leadership sickens me. Hastert and Boehner need to pay a price for this as does Reynolds if culpaple. I offer them not a shred of defense.

    rich

  23. Dave M. says:

Wow, my own congressman has been dragged into scandal. The era of republican immorality finally hits my home town.

  24. Ba'al says:

Rove, the cunning mastermind that he is, has in fact delivered us Mark Foley as the promised October surprise.

As we pursue the GOP congressional boy-sex scandal, and its coverup (aided and abetted by bribery of another GOP leader) we will forget about torture, the end of habeus corpus, the latest Iraq intelligence estimates, the further deterioriation of Baghdad, opium and the Taliban back in Afganistan, the failure to report the pre-9-11 Rice-Tennet meeting, the latest details in Woodward’s book, and the continuing subversion of the Constitution. I suspect I just left out a bunch of stuff. Such as the fact that Powell now admits he was fired. There is much much more.

So you see, Rove is truly an evil genius whose scope of operation is limitless.

  25. Ba'al says:

    Senator Allen,

Why did you accept a campaign donation from a known child predator?

  26. Jake says:

Damn, hush money is involved now?

Wow. The GOP should toast over this, but ain’t funny how difficult it is to be prosecuted for stuff like this when you’re in power.

  27. Jodi says:

Shhhhhh. The GOP (Gross Old Perverts) make my skin crawl.
At least Monica Lewinsky was an adult. The GOP goes after underage boys.

  28. Dog+named+Boo says:

Heres 100k, don’t out me! -Foley

  29. DrBB says:

the [National Republican Congressional Committee], which Reynolds chairs, accepted an unusually large contribution of $100,000 from Foley. Hard to imagine something of that size just slipping past the chairman.”

What are the regular dues payments these guys are expected to contribute to the NRCC, though? The pushback on this particular item seems to be that it was just a routine contribution to the election committee that all GOP members are supposed to make. (DNC requires $600k, according to what I read.) Anyone know if this is a valid counter-argument?

  30. enough says:

Hey Newtie, The Repubs live to gay bash!

  31. John Gilpins says:

Mark Foley is just one closeted, homophobic, Republican, homosexual wielding a big stick in Washington. Fabulous he ain’t. The Bush administration is obviously filled with tens, and tens, and tens, and tens, and tens, and tens of other closeted, homophobic, Republican, homosexuals wielding a big stick in Washington. Fabulous they ain’t.

I am firmly convinced that many of these homophobic, Republicans would send the GLBT community to the gas chambers without blinking an eye. These folks are hate-mongers, and don’t forget for a minute that the gay community is a key target of hate crimes.

The gay community knows hate all too well. The black community knows hate all too well. For millions, the hate game happens to other people–not us. Hate always happens to those other folks.

It’s quite interesting to observe the overwhelming disgust when Fred Phelps pickets GI funerals. How dare he do this! How dare he do this! Does Fred Phelps have any decency? Do homosexual, homophobic Republicans have any decency when they deny millions basic fundamental rights afforded to other segments of society? One of George Bush’s favorite words is: “fabulous.” Why can’t my basic fundamental rights be fabulous, too?

As far as I am concerned, Fred Phelps and these hypocritical Republican politicans are rotten to the core. These homosexual homophobes are self-loathing, and they crave power just as much as they crave same-sex flesh. The press wasn’t interested in Jeff Gannon-gate. Why? I don’t know? I do wonder why a male prostitute is sleeping at the White House numerous times? Why is a male prostitute asking soft-ball questions to Bush’s press secretary? The questions weren’t fabulous questions. The former press secretary wasn’t fabulous–he’s long gone. Why is Karl Rover having fabulous conversations with this male prostitute? Now the press seems to be somewhat interested in Foley and this boy. This fabulous story might have legs. Gosh, let’s hope so.

When the history books are written about this pathetic administration, historians are not going to be writing fabulous things.

    John

Ahh, the best Ass coverage money can buy!

  33. Steve says:

Foley’s $100,000 contribution sounds a lot like hush money. We need to be calling for an outside special counsel to investigate this so it doesn’t get covered up or turned into a Hastert-directed investigation into how the word got out about the Foley coverup.

  34. onion says:

    #24 my thoughts exactly…

last time they needed a wingman to cause a large distraction away from the real news, it was the John-Benet case, remember?

  35. Rick says:

Feeling bummed out, I was listenning to the Randi Rhodes show after the 2004 elections and she said ” don’t move to Canada yet, these neocons will shoot themselves in the foot sooner or later” she was prophetic, theirs a whole lot of republican body parts missing. Speaking of shooting, some pellets adorn the face of a unnamed lawyer courtesy of our VP. Take a look at Crain’s NY Business September 18 – 24, 2006 issue, “Conservative malaise hurts Fox news” they are losing viewers by double digits. This no Spin Factor. Keep hope and live, get out and do something!

  36. bgirl says:

Doesn’t mean anything to Repukes–that is, unless there’s substantial proof that someone got a BJ under the Oval Office desk! Everything else is permissable according to Party of Family Values and No-Child-Left-Behind (pardon the pun)!!!

  37. John Willams says:

Does anyone think that the 16 yr old page is the only underage boy that Foley had contact with? Just wait until it all is revealed!

  38. socrates says:

This is all becoming eerily reminiscent of Caligula’s Rome. Fall of an empire anyone? When are we going to wake up as a country and society and push these people out of and away from our innocent children? Even primitive cultures without exception have penalties for child molesting the least of which is banishment. I say we go beyond prosecuting these morally bankrupt perverts. Take away their American citizenship. They do not deserve to live in our great country. This applies all the way to the top. Get the whole stinking bunch of the out of here!

  39. Phil Freeman says:

I can still see Denise Hastert leading the charge against Bill Clinton. Where is Dobson why has it taken so long to hear from the moral right (yea right). This should be of no surpise. And booze makes this happen or makes it right? The whole group needs to check in with Foley.

  40. Reno and Its Discontents»Blog Archive » Reno and Beyond: We Worship Wonkette says:

[...] Was Foley doling out hush money to keep some of his fellow repubs quiet about his kid cruising? [...]

  41. MizLiz says:

Ah, Karma. I am a believer now, if I wasn’t before. I’d like to see Republicans blather about “Values” and “morality” and keep from squirming. Power corrupts, true…but total control of the Senate and House corrupts absolutely.
