Time to bust out the plethysmograph. Google it if you don’t know what it means. It’s a doozy, but may be needed to “test out” any other potential pedephiles in Congress.
Hastert’s statement that when he discovered it in ‘05 and tried to get others involved, nothing happened. I guess he plans to take them all down with him? He said it was “on the record”…..which also means that it was there for the administration to see as well.
Predator-Gate will grow by the hour, despite the MSM’s attempts to downplay it and play up the horrible shooting in Pa. Predator-Gate will not go away until 08 when new leadership will occupy the white house.
Predator-gate will grow and grow as more minors come forward since this has been “enabled” since 2001.
Predator-gate will be larger than Watergate and Monicagate combined!
Sharped-eyed readers of the Bible may find something about this in The Book of Revelations, but I believe that Exley is right (about Jay being right).
Hastert must resign if he even thought there might be problems like this when he was first told and did not do enough. It is my opinion that the problem Republicans have is that they don’t seem to understand what a “conflict of interest” is nor what the “appearance of a conflict of interest” looks like. So they never recognize them when they’re staring them in the face. (”Oh, Foley likes little boys? Well, just don’t get caught.”)
Thanks, PLC…This incident transcends political and party loyalty. It is about morality, decency, and arrogance of power. It is also about responsibility and protecting children. And yes, this page was a child…I don’t care if he was 15, or 16…He was a high school student…A child in a strange city, whose safety was entrusted to the House of Representatives…And the House let him down. A pitiful display by the House Republican leadership.
If the “warning” of Republicans is “on the record” as Hastert claims, then those warned will go down with him. Perhaps this “record” goes all the way up – or should.
Foley is Irish Catholic, and might have been an altar boy, which could explain his behavior lusting for underage teenage boys since Foley might have been molested by a priest(s)?!
All FAUX news can do is try to change the topic – from crime to rehab – won’t work. They’ve clearly picked the wrong side with which to align themselves and will go down with the sinking ship. They ratings surely are reflecting problems these days. Sickos, all of them.
The fact that the matter was not dealt with accordingly over the past 5 years speaks to the power this guy has, which is even more of an abusive situation. Even if the page was 20 years old, its still an abuse of power in addition to being sick.
Foley’s predlections and predispositions are of little importance here. The real discussion is about protecting our children from the Foley’s in governmental high places. It must be about holding adults to the letter of the law and the protection of our children. Otherwise, in the world view we sink even lower to that of predators sacrificing our own kids for power and personal gain…..yuk!
The right wingers like Coulter are whining about the timing of this. Yes they should all be angry it was not dealt with 5 years ago, and they should direct their anger toward those who looked the other way.
Abuse of power by anyone is amoral; predating a minor is criminal. There are two different charges here….the third one is the obvious lack of oversight by those “who knew” and refused to protect our children by allowing a known predator to continue his trolling of our kids.
If all coulter et all can do is whine about the “timing” of this, they all need a lobotomy! Where the hell are their brains and morality? This is clearly about protecting our children and they, obviously, could care less.
finally our own sodom & gomorrah complete with torture chambers. thank you house of reps. the end can’t be to far away now. so i guess i’ll just watch. for it seems that thats all we can do, is just watch this ” new rome” train wreck. we’ve had a good run 230 years ain’t to shabby.
It’s being hinted on the blogs that Rep. Shimkus is on the verge of resigning from the House > he oversaw the Page program and helped Foley to score on underage teenage boys!
Attorney general issues graphic warning of online ‘epidemic’
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Thursday issued what he termed a “wake-up call” to the growing problems of pedophiles prowling Congress and online images of sexual abuse of children.
Rest easy, remain calm…I am sure my boss has been all over this case since CREW contacted the FBI in July with the Foley communications.
Are we going a little overboard with our reactions to this scandal here on this board? Remember what we said about the Republicans overreacting to the Lewinsky scandal – and how that cost them politically? Is talking in sexual terms with a 16 year old page really that much worse morally than a married man having sex with a 22 year old intern? If the 22 year old were male and the 16 year old female, would we be as disgusted? Think about it.
Let the Republicans feed off themselves on this one, let the FBI investigate the criminal aspects, and let the voters decide. It’s the Republicans who are hypocrites here, let’s not join them.
[...] A republican staffer warned pages five years ago that they shouldn’t “get too wrapped up in him.” Brian Ross reports that. You can see him speak to pages, praising their politeness on Think Progress. His speech gets a very interesting meaning all of a sudden. [...]
Success at pushing the big lie has made the Republican propagandists arrogantly think they can spin anything, but they just might be wrong this time. It doesn’t matter how times you repeat “Clinton” or anything else, Foley will always seem like a disgusting sexual predator, and the GOP leadership is on the hook for covering it up.

Comment by Joe — October 2, 2006 @ 4:35 pm
Umm, Joe, if anyone here needs to think about it, you do. But honestly, I don’t know why it requires any thinking. But just in case it needs explaining, a 52 year old Congressman stalking 16 year old girls or boys, including attempting to arrange meetings with them for sex, should not be considered anywhere near the same as having an affair with a consenting 22 year old woman. At least that isn’t how normal people view this situation.
If Hastert can’t be trusted to put the needs of a minor ahead of a congressman, how can he (or any of his colleagues in this coverup) be trusted to respond to the needs of the voters?
An average 16 year old boy is significantly less mature than an average 16 year old girl (by about 2 years), so it’s comparable to sexual predation on 14-year old girls. (Also, add in the fact that these boys do not have a clear sense of their sexuality and may be negatively and permanently affected in a way that they would not by a heterosexual experience.)

You are absolutely right. The Republicans just don’t comprehend conflicts of interest, ethics, or morality as it applies to them and theirs.
I am always afraid of coming off as believing the Dems are always right – of course that is not true – human frailties and foibles what they are — but when the party who has appointed itself as the arbiter of moral authority not only sanctions this behavior by looking the other way, they are beyond the pale.
Well, I am not defending this turd, but checking into rehab could address all the auxillary behaviors that go with alcoholism. Like making poor choices, maybe being addicted to sex, etc. It can get complicated. He’s still a schmuck.
This scandal is growing by the hour, so Hastert must resign ASAP! Everyone must demand a full investigation of Pages being pimped to Congressmen!
