It is now clear that the Speaker of the House knew of a problem as far back as 2002 and when Foley said he was going to retire in 2005 the Speaker of the House urged Mark Foley to go for re-election. So during at least all of the 2004 election cycle the Speaker of the House knew he was backing a child stacker and sex offender. RL (blowing hard as always) seems to never get it, this was a Republican sandal, outed by Republicans after the cover up was blown and covered up at least three years by the Republican leadership. The only fault the Democrats can be accused of is enjoying it too much, the entire egg is on Republican faces.

This is a non-issue except for Foley being a stupid ass.
The age of consent in Washington, DC is 16. So, Foley isn’t any
pedophile. He’s a dope, but not a criminal in Washington.

Yeah it is all Republicans love to have sex with young boy, it is no pedophile no crime.

More likely that some clever 16 year olds were trying to have some fun with a dirty old gay man. That any 16 year old with computer access is unaware of most forms of weird sex in this day and age is ridiculous to assume.

BLAME THEM BLAME THEM STUPID BOYS trick the old poor Republican GAY.

The hypocrisy of a supposedly child-protecting Republican (Foley) is a major issue here and if the Democrats win enough seats in the next election, their October surprise will have been a success. Then we can expect higher taxes and more bad government for which the Democrats are famous.

Yeah, we should stay in our crazy stupid dirty corrupt party. What is our point? Our party is more important than our country our people.

No matter how sleazy any Republican might be, on balance the Democrats are worse. Clinton’s under desk sex was a far bigger matter at that time. Again, 16 year old pages aren’t minors in Washington, DC. So, what’s the big deal here?

Yeah what the big deal here? This 16 yo page is our Republican familly's son not Democrate's. Yeah some our leaders want to exploit them yeah it is not big deal for us.

Hastert must go. But the real perversion is that someone in the U.S. government either actively or passively ALLOWED those hijackers to destroy those towers. And that someone in the U.S. government had those towers "blown", along with Building No. 7.

If you read the Chicago Tribune article this morning you would have noticed Coach really take a stretch. This is all Clinton's fault, especially as Clinton's "advisor Richard Morris" knew about it.
Denny needs his rolodex updated, Dick Morris is ummmm, well, the best way to say this is......a right wing back stabber.

Insignificant+aphrodite has again tried and failed to turn the topic from pedophilia and NeoCon cover up to homosexuality.

Most folks who are pedophiles are heterosexuals (as insignificant+aphrodite claims to be).

That too is (like insignificant+aphrodite) totally unimportant.

What is important is that this episode clearly shows that the party of insignificant+aphrodite's choice is morally, spiritually, and ethically bankrupt*, not to mention criminally inclined.

Nothing that any of the GOP apologists lurking on this thread whine about can change that fact.

* Hastert's claiming that this is merely a "political issue" show his intellectual bankruptcy as well.

To Mission of Truth -- Bravo, bravo, and bravo again. What an exquisite rendering of the truth. Thank you for your honesty, your bravery, and your insight. So often simple minded/single minded people simply "buy" into what they think they are "supposed" to believe and won't even consider that there may be some flawed reasoning in their thinking. I am proud that I found this post, because I think you have beautifully covered many points that people need to hear.

Just so you (and your target audience) will know. I have been married for 26 years, have raised two very successful kids (now adults), am still married, and I am gay. My wife knows, my kids also know. My wife has become my best friend and the love you spoke so eloquently about is the love that I experience with her. Many people can't understand why I didn't "come out" when the kids were raised and I can only say that I have a whole lifetime invested in my relationship with my wife and I am not willing to cast that aside.

The world is made up of all kinds of different people. Would that we could accept others and not "worry" so much about "what" they are but respect them for "who" they are.

I have to say that in had I been born in a different time I might have been able to experience my relationship with a man, but for me because of all the social pressures and lies that you accurately described in your post, eithier I didn't have the guts or felt that the options were not there for me.

I am writing this in support of your post, hoping that maybe in some small way I might have an impact on the wee minded people who have such trouble seeing past the end of their own nose.

Thanks again "Truth". You are my hero today.

I have to say that in had I been born in a different time I might have been able to experience my relationship with a man, but for me because of all the social pressures and lies that you accurately described in your post, eithier I didn’t have the guts or felt that the options were not there for me.

I am writing this in support of your post, hoping that maybe in some small way I might have an impact on the wee minded people who have such trouble seeing past the end of their own nose.

Thanks again “Truth”. You are my hero today.

Answers for poster # 254, mighty+aphrodite.

Yes, I do tend to be a rather verbose chap at times. However, your use of “RAmbling” discredits me without due cause. I do not move aimlessly from place to place nor do I mince or explore my words aimlessly. On the contrary. I am a very forthright person and am quite stable in all things I do. Perhaps it is because I have taken literature seriously for over 50 years I may appear wordy to those who are less read than I. You are obviously homophobic so no matter how I respond you will find fault with the answer you get. However, I will give you the benefit of a response anyway, because I am a compassionately warm and wonderful human being.

People are individuals regardless of whether they are gay or straight. There are gay people in every part of the world. There always has been and there always will be whether you like it or not. There are as many “different” kinds of gay people as there are heterosexuals. I and my partner personally have never stepped foot into a gay bath house nor any other house of ill repute for that matter. Yet the straight community has houses of prostitution throughout the world. Why do you not mention that?

Neither one of us ever smoked, drank or used drugs.

We have no need of gay bars. There are literally millions of nightclubs and bars for straights. Why do you not mention that? They are for singles whom are in need of companionship and have no other outlet at their disposal.

My partner and I are spiritual but not religious. To be “religious” is to be racist. Religion in and of itself promotes hatred, bigotry and murder because of its many contradictory messages that makes enemies of humanity in general. To be spiritual is to find genuine peace, tranquility and happiness within oneself and to try to find it in others. There is magic in spiritualism but not in religion.

As far as AIDS is concerned, this disease has no boundaries. Women, men, children, newborns, and every race and creed around the world today is faced with this horrid disease, both gays and straights needless to say. My partner and I do not suffer from this ailment and we are grateful for it. Sadly there are millions of people struggling to survive with this illness. HIV can be contracted obviously through having anal or vaginal sex but not by kissing, touching, caressing, or mutual masturbation. HIV may also be contracted through the use of unsanitary needles, blood transfusions and the like.

Mighty+Aphrodite, my partner and I have other friends who are gay couples too. Neither we nor they are “sluts” as you label some. Sadly, we have lost one of our very close friends recently whom was monogamous with one man for 35 years. Whatever your “religion” has taught you I hope that people like you can somehow find a way to embrace gay people rather than to “hate” a group of people simply because of impressions you may have or what you have been told about them by your faith or by people you are affiliated with in your life.

The people you see at a Gay Pride Parade make up a very small part of the gay community. They do their best to stand out because it is what the heterosexual community has come to expect from them. It is nothing more than a theatrical performance, props and all, and you have obviously fallen for it. It is also because gay people tend to be festive, glamorous and flirtatious. They want YOU to notice them and to REMEMBER them.

Heterosexuals have all kinds of parades and celebrations of their own too. Oftentimes your parades don’t exemplify anything traditional, conservative or bland either. Again, there are as many different kinds of gay people as there are straight people. I wish you would at least try to understand that.

I am glad to see, on another note, that you respect other peoples privacy and that they reciprocate the same to you. However, if one is gay and is in your company I see no reason why that person can’t be who they are. They should not be criticized, made to feel uncomfortable or hampered from expressing themselves, including their sexuality. You wouldn’t want to be held captive in a “closet”. So why would you expect anybody else to be held or contained in one?

"I love juvenile anti-semites."
Comment by Iakeo — October 4, 2006 @ 3:58 pm (#262)

The juveniles in this thread are the GOP apologists (like Roger_Roger and Iakeo) with their smug, arrogant, self-absorbed comments (sound like any juveniles you know?) taken from NeoCon talking-points. They do all this, trying to deflect our attention from the fact that the party they are sluts for IS (and has been since 1964) morally, spiritually, and ethically bankrupt, not to mention criminally inclined.

Hastert is just another NeoCon whore*. Ignore him. He'll be gone soon.

* Hastert gets paid; Roger_Roger and Iakeo are just sluts - they do it for the sicko-fun of doing it!

Clinton had a consenting affair with a consenting adult. There is no comparison between Foley and Clinton. To Mighty aphrodite, most "normal" gay people do not attend those gay pride parades. The flamboyantly gay are the only ones who attend.

#254 - Dear RAmbling Mission of Truth - I confess, my eyes glazed over reading your "Gay Blade" talking points....but I do have a couple of questions:
1.) If gayness is so concerned with monogamy - WHY was the gay community overwhelmingly against closing the gay bath houses in San Francisco at the onset of the AIDS epidemic?? Those bath houses and many other dark, out of the way places are known to attract gay sluts...
2.) If gayness is so normal why is EVERY Gay Pride Parade characterized by the ultimate collections of freaks and weirdos? If I were wanting to communicate a more mainstream message, i would probably have the Gay Parents strollers on Parade or the Gay Interior Designers carrying paint buckets and waving color coded paint fans - and of course they would be in a tasteful state of dress - rather than undress.

Do I know gay people - of course I do. My favourite gay friends? The ones who act like everyone else and DON'T share TOO MUCH INFORMATION. They understand that my private life is private and I respect that their private life is PRIVATE, too.....

Good night....

I'm confused? Don't the Republicans believe in "staying the course?" Why have they decided to "cut and run" on Folley? They are arguing that their course was the right one but now they turn and run. Come on Hastert! Your Commander and Chief would want you to stay the course. Arn't you American. Isn't "stay the course" the right thing to do?

Can we conclude that you think "staying the course" is assinine? Is there a dissonance between your thinking and your Commander and Chief's thinking. You better sit down and pray and say your mantra tonight: "stay the course, stay the course, stay the course, stay the course." That's a good boy. The President would be proud of you. "Stay the course, stay the course".....keep going....the President is watching you.
