John Walsh Rebuts Conservative Anti-Gay Smears»

Several conservatives are using the Mark Foley scandal to push vicious anti-gay smears. Just today, Human Life International (”pro-life missionaries to the world”) put out a statement blaming Foley’s behavior on his sexual orientation:

Foley’s actions were that of homosexual predator, not a pedophile. Homosexuals reproduce sexually by molesting children. This creates a cycle of violence and disordered behavior that creates future generations of abusers and predators.

But as John Walsh — host of “America’s Most Wanted” and an advocate of childrens’ safety — told Larry King last night, the Foley case is about pedophilia, not homosexuality. Watch it:

Full transcript:

KING: A couple things revealed today, did you know that he was gay?

WALSH: You know that was always the issue on Capitol Hill and I think that his response in the past was that “That’s my business and would you ask President Bush or would you ask, you know, chairman [sic] Harry Reid if he was straight?” I think in the 21st century, people have a right to keep their sexuality, you know, to themselves. But, you know, making overt advances to 16-year-old boys from a 52-year-old man is nothing about gay. It’s about pedophilia.

Thank you, John Walsh. John Walsh has a lot more credibility with the public than these lying neocons.

  2. Enough Says:

Homosexuals reproduce sexually by molesting children.

Bigots reproduce asexually by laying their eggs in the brains of teh stupid. They are a disease.

    Wipe them out.

  3. CP Says:

No, no, no. Pedophilia is not an applicable term here. According to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, an individual suffering from pedophilia: “over a period of six months, [has] recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges or behaviors involving sexually activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 or younger).”

In other words, pedophiles want to have sex children. Not young men, not adolescent girls, but hairless, sexually undeveloped children. This is a serious mental illness, which should not be confused in any way, shape or form with an individual’s physical attraction to, for example, 17-year old boys. Our society has postponed the age at which we think kids should become sexually active - but much like a ripe peach, there’s really no mistaking when mother nature intended us to partake of her fruits. We can criminalize sexual contact with minors, but we MUST NOT lump Mark Foley into the same camp as Father O’Grady.

  4. JesusChrist_GodOfWAR Says:

    GOP == Greedy Old Pedophiles

    What more needs be said?

John Walsh is, of course, correct to point out this is not a “gay” issues.

  5. Wayne Says:

Walsh: But, you know, making overt advances to 16-year-old boys from a 52-year-old man is nothing about gay. It’s about pedophilia.

Exactly the point. Any father or mother worth their salt are outraged and totally pissed over this. The repugs trying to spin it are pissing us off even more. The coverups are pissing us off as well. Heads will fall over this congressional pedophile ring, and no amount of spin is going to stop us screaming for justice and those involved paying for what they have done.

  6. Sharon Cox Says:

Exactly!…..I know many gay people, they are my friend’s and not one, ever, has done any thing to children….Interesting also, they all have been in relationships with their partners for more year’s than my marriages….It’s been a fun joke with me and them for year’s that I wanted the marriage amentdment’s to go through so they could be as miserable as most of us married folk’s were…..

Time for those of us that know this is a gay bashing, rally the relegious reich scheme to stand up and shout. Enough of the bull shit bush madness….Throw rove and all of them under the bus. Evil SOB’S all…….Blessings

  7. Ohio 2nd Blog » Citizens for “Community Values” Make Excuses for Republican Cover-up of Sexual Predator (UPDATED) Says:

[…] UPDATE: John Walsh, host of “America’s Most Wanted”: …making overt advances to 16-year-old boys from a 52-year-old man is nothing about gay. It’s about pedophilia.   […]

  8. Sharon Cox Says:

Sorry cp, you’re post doesn’t hold water with me or my gay friend’s….They agree, soliciting 16 year olds by a 52 year old man is sick, sick, sick and every one know’s the medical community is rich and flawed……This crazy basterd Foley is doing what ever he can to look good, he will fight to the bitter end not to be portrayed the pedaphile he is and here is why, in jail they don’t do well…Sorry you’re out and so is he..

  9. mfk Says:

Look, I want the repubs out as much as the next guy, but pedophilia is not the proper term here as someone already pointed out. creepy? sure. But it’s not pedophilia. That’s just empty rhetoric which is something that we accuse the right of doing all the time. Let’s call a spade a spade and not sink to their level on this.

  10. Chimpin'+Ain't+Easy.. Says:

So by Human Life International’s definition, a 50 year old man that molests a 6 year girl is “Straight”? Can’t wait for them to issue a statement condemning the hetero lifestyle.

  11. Willy Says:

It’s also about the lack of morality in the Republican party. Funny how they claim they’re the party of “family values”. Such hypocrisy. They act like they’re so confused about what is right and wrong. That’s a sure sign of they’re being sociopaths.

  12. nofltwlt Says:

Lock everyone up and figure it out later.

  13. lw Says:

OK, so you blame homosexuality when adult males chase after underage boys.

What do you blame when adult males chase after underage girls? Heterosexuality?

  14. devin Says:

NeoNuts/Conservatives DON’T GIVE A DAMN about Pedophilia-they just have to get their ANTI-GAY orgasm on-even around this issue!
A rabid and sickening bunch of hypocrites!

  15. lw Says:

Actually, it IS Bill Clinton’s fault.

You see, Foley was using one of the internets for instant messaging. Well, Al Gore INVENTED the internets (or at least one of them). And Bill Clinton chose Al Gore to be his VP. So it all goes back to Bill Clinton.

That’s how these liberal Democrat conspiracies work, ya know…

  16. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

cp’s objection to the term “pedophilia” in this case might have some practical validity as the connection will be made to Foley’s homosexuality. “Sexual exploitation” might be a better term because 1) that’s what Foley’s actions were, 2) this term implies that there is non-exploitative homosexuality, and 3) exploitation also relates to the attempts on manipulating voters by the cover-up.

  17. MizLiz Says:

Has anyone actuallyreadthose emails? Not the harmless ones being quoted here and there, I mean the IM’s ABC obtained. Foley comes across as nothing more than a pedophile. I believe there’s another word for people who have obsessions about young teenagers, but I can’t remember what that is. “Creepy” covers it.

Anyway, I have a link if you haven’t read it.

  18. hellinabucket Says:

Question. How many similiar type of contacts have been made by any member of congress to any page. Regardless of male or female and which political party. I’d be interested in hearing how many sexual advances the members of congress (and the WH) have made.

These people are at the top in power and remembering a deviant behavior class in college the higher up the social scale the more perverse the deviance.

  19. plunger Says:

Mr. Walsh seems to be the only one who knows that Foley’s actions were predatory and ILLEGAL.

The fact is, EVERYONE in the Republican Party all the way up to the White House knew.

Everyone at the top of the Justice Department knew.

    Many in the FBI Knew.

ALL OF THEM BROKE THE LAW when they failed to reveal a crime in progeress.

At this very moment, GHW Bush, Henry Kissinger, and ALL of the Republican brain trust are meeting in DC - plotting strategy.

    It’s going nuclear.

They are ALL guilty, and they are not going down without taking all the democrats with them.

The entire political system is about to be purged.

    .

  20. Andrew Says:

    Thank you, John Walsh

“Gay” is a dignified state of sexuality.

    “Pedophilia” is violent sociopathic criminality.

The two have absolutely nothing to do with each-other.

    Just as:

Rape is not sex. Rape is violence.

    :::

  21. Jonathon Says:

Many thanks for Mr. Walsh for speaking out and setting the record straight. So many anti-gay, anti-family “religious” organizations are trying to spin this story into an “all gays are predators” story - and that is simply not the case. The overwhelming majority of sexual abuse, whether the victim is male or female, is committed by HETEROSEXUALS! Paedophilia isn’t about sex; it’s about power. While I agree that “technically” paedophilia refers to victims under the age of 13, Foley clearly has a preference for young men. So perhaps the issue is sexual harassment, but regardless it is simply disgusting for a 50+ year old man to come on sexually to a 16 or 17 year old boy. In the gay community we have a name for that: chickenhawk. They make up about 0.0001% of the gay community, and most of us are horrified by their actions.

  22. Andrew Says:

I think my comment got moderated out..

    Did I do something wrong?:

    If so, sorry.

  23. Pissed+Off Says:

    CP (Comment #3)

    - but much like a ripe peach, there’s really no mistaking when mother nature intended us to partake of her fruits.

Does this mean you too are lusting for 14 to 17 year old boys?
Do you as well send IM asking them “did you spank it”?

It seems to me you are trying to justify your own pervert behaviour by rationalizing what Sicko Foley did as something other than whta it is— “pedophilia”

  24. Zeke Says:

All of this unchallenged gay bashing in the mainstream media over the last couple of days (Perkins on The Situation Room; Perkins/Buchanan on Hardball; and Perkins on GMA) has REALLY affected me and my family personally.

For the last few days I have watched mainstream media shows having roundtable discussions about homosexuality and how it relates to Foley’s acts. I have watched as right wing, rabidly anti-gay, conservative, “Christian” activists spew hate and misinformation without A SINGLE voice of dissent or a single argument in support of gay people AND without a single gay person on the panel that was put together to explain what gays do, what gays think, what makes people gay and what connection there might be between a homosexual orientation and criminal behavior. Doesn’t it make sense that if you want to understand gay people then you might just want to at ask AT LEAST ONE gay person THEIR opinion?

Strangely enough there was absolutely NO mention of the child molestor/murderer in Colorado or the child molestor/mass murderer from the Amish School in Pennsylvania. Their was no discussion about how their heterosexual orientations were related to their crimes. There was certainly no attempt to hold ALL straight men responsible for their crimes or to accuse ALL straight men of being “perverts”, “deviants”, “unnatural” and “predisposed to pedophilia” as ALL gay men have been in the MSM over the last couple of days.

I am the father of a 12 year old son. My partner of 15 years/husband of three (married 2003 Toronto) and I raise him in the most traditional way that we can, minus the traditional guilt, hate and abuse that we were raised with. I try to only speak of my family, and particularly my son, online ONLY when it is EXTREMELY relevant to a discussion. I want to protect them from the freaks out there.

Last night my son was doing his homework in the same room where my partner and I were watching Hardball. When the segment with Perkins and Buchanan came on I felt a panic attack come on. I didn’t know what to do. I have always tried to allow my son to be exposed to a certain level of rhetoric from the anti-gay side because I know he will be exposed to it one way or another when I’m not around to explain it to him. I want him to hear anti-gay comments when I am present and able to explain things to him. I mistakenly assumed that a MSNBC discussion would be balanced and both sides would be represented. I WAS DEAD WRONG!

I hoped that my son would be so engrossed with his studies that he wouldn’t pay attention to the program. WRONG AGAIN!
He listened intently while my partner and I tried to calmly explain things to him without losing our cools and scaring him. Although I was absolutely BOILING inside, I felt that my son dealt with it well and all was OK with him.

After he went to bed, my partner and I just about exploded. We were incensed that we were put into such an unfair and uncomfortable position just so that Chris Matthew could stir up some shit to get ratings.

When I finally calmed down and headed to bed, at about 3 am I heard my son crying in his room. I went in and asked him what was wrong. He said he didn’t understand why people would say things like that about his dads AND he didn’t understand why grown men would want to do “things” to little boys. What am I supposed to say to that? I cried with him and told him that some people are just very mean, and just like school bullies they feel a need to pick on people that they feel are weaker than they are. I told him that his daddies love him very much and would NEVER let anybody hurt him. I had to give him the whole “inappropriate touching” lesson all over again wondering if he somewhere, down deep inside, he now feared that I could be capable of doing anything but loving and protecting him. No PARENT should have such doubts!!!

He told me that people in school (an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!) had been talking about the Foley situation and had been saying the same things that Perkins and Buchanan said. He doesn’t know what to do, and frankly NIETHER DO I! I kept him out of school today and made an appointment for my partner and me to talk to the principal this afternoon. However, I really don’t know what she can do about what kids say. She can make sure the teachers don’t join in on the lynchings but that’s about it.

This is not something that my son or his parents should be subjected to. It is TOTALLY shameful, unprofessional and immoral for the mainstream media to put my family, or any other gay family or any gay individual into a situation where he/she/they have to defend themselves against mass charges of perversion, deviance and child molestation.

In the past I’ve had to deal with total strangers telling my son that his father is a sodomite pedophile who is a danger to society and who is going to hell. I’ve had total strangers ask my son if I or his papa have ever touched him inappropriately. I have children of evangelicals telling my son things that no kid should ever hear. And ALWAYS, EVERY SINGLE TIME, it is done by people who CLAIM to be Christians and CLAIM to be doing the work of the Lord!

My partner and I are great dads. We’re certainly not perfect but we do our very best and we must be doing something right because we have one HELL of a great kid to show for it. But our lives have been made SOOOOO much harder by mean spirited individuals, gay hating fundamentalists, “that’s so gay” and “you’re such a fag” pop culture, AND NOW the mainstream media!

I’m exhausted by the constant battles, but for the sake of my precious son and all the other gay parents, gay kids and moral and ethical gay individuals out there I CAN’T GIVE UP!

Sorry for getting so personal and running on for so long but my heart is broken and my rage is immeasurable. I don’t know what more to do.
PLEASE join me in this fight. Gay, Straight, man, woman, black or white; we desperately need your help brothers and sisters!

Please contact MSNBC, CNN , Good Morning America and Fox News and tell them to stop allowing millions of innocent gay people and their families to be lynched, unchallenged, on their shows.

  25. Ernest Says:

Could someone please diagram for me the homosexual reproduction cycle. I think I missed that one in biology class.

  26. Gregg Says:

Actually in most states, the age of sexual consent is 16. There is a sort of federal age of consent of 18, but it’s only enforced if someone goes on overseas sex tours, or travels or entises a minor to travel to a state where the age of consent is lower. So it’s quite possible that Foley might not have technically committed any crime other then maybe contributing to the delinquency of a minor (one of those “catch all” charges) or possibly workplace sexual harrassment. Even if the age of consent in DC is under 18, Foley should still be investigated to find out if he was doing this to anyone younger then the age of consent there.

  27. Clayburn9 Says:

This is an outrageous issue. I cannot believe this scum bag was so powerful. I also don’t thikn this should be a political issue. Both sides have had/are having their problems. It is only going to get worse.

I am no way condoning the actions of Foley. But if Foley was a female and was trying to solicit a male this would be a nonissue. See Deb Lafave.

Let’s quit screwing around with this and nail Foley. If there was a cover up I am guessing there were people of both parties that knew this was happening. I do not want to condem anyone just yet. Except Foly, of course. He has admitted this.

I think this is going to be a huge “October Surprise” but the fallout my be both sides.

  28. Suzie Says:

I consider my self to be on the right wing side of politics. This is wrong. This is not a gay issue. This is a man in power exploiting teenagers.

  29. Zooey Says:

    Zeke,

Your story is breaking my heart. This type of thing is worse than “if it bleeds, it leads.”

I’m so sick of the slant put on this story, I can’t even tell you.

You and your partner are good fathers. Keep talking to your son, and you’re right — never give up.

  30. Mark Says:

At work today a co-worker repeated the same line about the homosexuals liking to prey on young boys. She used the word they a lot and the phrase…they like to… This of course was right after she discussed a local teacher (38) who was arrested for having sex with a minor (17). She didn’t make any arguments about heterosexuals preying on young members of the opposite sex. Those heterosexuals they only want to band young girls… I guess that is ok.

  31. Andrew Says:

    27.

I think that many of your fellow conservative constituents feel precisely the same way.

Many of us in the Democratic party respect conservative people. What we don’t respect and take issue with are the supposed “values conservatives” that you are voting for.

Personally, I don’t think that it is the constituent’s fault. Rather, it is more the fault of your Party’s leadership by offering morally bankrupt candidates to its voters and forcing their elections by exploiting the fear of its constituents.

I wish that conservatives would realize this and begin to take back their party from these people.

While I have been angry for six years now, you should be angrier and start acting upon it.

My Democratic Party is nowhere near perfect; however, its imperfection is constantly challanged and altered for the better by its base. Yes, we have corruption as all institutions do. But my guesstimation is that for every corrupt person in my party leadership, there are at least 10 in yours. Therefore, I urge you and your respectible conservative constituency to clear these people out (including Mr. Rove and Mr. Mehlman, who have done your party absolutely no honorable service.)

I’m not knocking you. Just giving my opinion.

Good luck! We would like to see you regain your voice in your party.
    :)

  32. Karim Says:

I have been a fan of Mr. Walsh’s since I was 8 years old. For him, I have nothing but the utmost respect for him to speak his mind on this.

  33. beefeater Says:

Wow, some people are really slicing the baloney a little thin here! Homo=same, Hetro=not the same. 50 year old “hetro” screwing a 6 year old female=pedophilia! 50 tear old “hetro” screwing 16 year old female=statutory rape (depending on the age of consent in that state.) 50 year old “homo” screwing 6 year old boy=pedophilia! All the definitions in the world don’t make any of this any less perveted. The queers are running from this as much as the Republicans. How about weeding all the perverts out. The Boy Scouts try this and get nothing but grief.

  34. Nanu Says:

    Zeke,
I feel for you. These idiots have spread so much hate.

  35. Suzie Says:

    29. I’m not perfect. Nobody is. If there is a flaw, it should be fixed. Republican or Democrat. I’m more of an idealist.

  36. Newprog Says:

I respect John Walsh for his courageous stand for homosexuals. He is a rea American Hero who has done so much to help this amazing country of ours. In all honesty I think Walsh would make an excellent president.

Zeke thx for the story. It was filled with emotion and courage. Do not worry people are looking out for you :)

  37. abigbman Says:

    Calyborn and BE

BE, You just spewed a bunch of hate by calling gays people queers. Remember that Foley only came out of the closet as an excuse. Had the e-mails never come up, he would still be in the closet. He is a self-loathing self-aggrandizing individual. Anybody defending or blaming his actions on Democrats is reprehensible.

Clayborn remember the Democrat on the page board was not notified when they made changes. The Speaker or the page board never told him about the e-mails. And this has been going on for years.

The thought that the Democrats would wait this long to spring this is ludicrous. Fox spews knew in December of 2005. The FBI knew in July of 2006 and did nothing. The local conservative papers had the e-mails last year also. This is a Republican deal only.

If a grown man had been sending my kid e-mails asking for a photo or asking his d**k size, I first would have called the Police. Second I would have given him a shotgun enema, if the Police didn’t do anything. I would never cover it up.

    abigbman

  38. Juizzee Says:

Whether or not Foley is officially a “pedophile,” 16-year-olds are not psychologically ready for advances by old men — Foley’s behavior definitely will have a damaging effect on these young pages.
So it seems there is little difference. Maybe there should be another medical term for adult men that go for 13 to 17 year olds…maybe “quasi-pedophile”… either way, according to the law, it doesn’t matter whether the kid is 12 or 17, I think.

  39. Suzie Says:

Nanu, that’s just not true. I can be a Republcian and love Democrats…

    Please don’t forget that we’re all people…

  40. Juizzee Says:

#23. My God, Zeke. Your post is a real eye-opener — everyone should read it. I’m forwarding it to everyone I know.

  41. Zeke Says:

In addition to being a gay father I am also a little league baseball and youth football coach. EVERY year I go through the same routine of reassuring parents that I’m not a pedophile and that their kids will be safe with me. I have to present letters of recommendation from my pastor, former players’ parents, school teachers and a local principal. I have been coaching for 20+ years and not until the last few years have I been able to find people that would risk recommending me in writing for fear that it could implicate them if I did in fact turn out to be a pedophile. This is something that the straight coaches never face. It is so demeaning, humiliating and dehumanizing to go through this year after year. It is a annual reminder that a huge number of people automatically assume that I am a pervert and a child molester even though I have been in a 15 year, monogamous relationship with the love of my life, who is eight years OLDER than me and we are raising a child of our own.

I am asked all the time by parents and ESPECIALLY gay friends: “Why do you do it?”; “Why do you subject yourself to this abuse?”; “Why do you risk being falsely accused of a despicable crime and having your life ruined by a disgruntled parent?”

All I can say is I love kids and I love being able to teach kids, the future of the world, to be good citizens through the wonderful lessons of sportsmanship. I was an Eagle Scout and I was a Marine for 12 years. I’ve done ALL of the “don’t ask, don’t tells” expressly because I’ve always wanted to be a good citizen and contribute positively to my family, my community and my country.

I refuse to let my sexual orientation limit my contribution to society. I refuse to let other people’s ignorance and hate keep me from sharing my gifts with my community and I refuse to let other people’s misconceptions about gay people make me curl up in a wounded ball and hide in the shadows, making no contribution to the future of this world.

Most of all, I love, ABSOLUTELY LOVE, watching the transformation of parents who once questioned and feared me because of ignorance of homosexuality, VOLUNTEERING to write letters of recommendation to future players’ parents. I love the friendships that I have developed with people who used to be rabidly homophobic. And I LOVE hearing former homophobes telling me that they now confront homophobia every time they encounter because they see it as a direct insult to their friend.

So what is my two-sentence answer to why I am out and why I risk my future by coaching kids?

Simple: Because my pride and my desire to contribute to and improve my community are greater than my fear of bigots and their ignorant misconceptions.

And, Because there is no better way that I can think of to change the hearts and minds of the most ignorant bigots.

Pride parades don’t work for me. They seem fringe and counterproductive to the stated goal. I personally believe the best way to promote gay rights and gay acceptance is to be OUT and live your life respectably.

This is something that Foley never understood and precisely why he, as a politician with so much potential to do good, allowed his fear and imposed shame to divert him into unethical, immoral and possibly illegal acts.

I hate to see potential wasted. Another reason why I’m a coach!

  42. NewProg Says:

oops didn’t finish my post… sorry about that…

  43. NewProg Says:

Anyways Zeke have a good life and keep up the good work. I love Canada!!!

  44. stonehinge Says:

Regarding the controversy over the term “pedophile”, the naysayers are actually correct…the proper term is “pederast.” Pedophiliacs go for pre-pubescent kids, pederasts go for adolescents. However, the distinction is rather trivial, and since most Americans don’t have a vocabulary which includes pederasty, pedophilia works just fine in this situation. The real issue here is the blatant hypocrisy of a pederast who covered his despicable actions by advocating legislation to protect minors from sexual assault Out of all the cases of sexual perversion we have seen from both sides of the aisle, this one stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. Lord have mercy.

  45. Zeke Says:

I love Canada too! I was married there!

Sometimes, when the homophobia and political scapegoating of gays and their families in the US gets to be so overwhelming, I dream of packing up the family and heading north.

Don’t take what you have for granted, eh. It’s pretty clear that Harper is intent on dismantling as many gay protections in your country as possible; all under the guise of “religious freedom and tolerance”.

The American Focus on the Family and American Family Association are already setting up Canadian Chapters and are hell bent on moving their shameful homophobia and Church/State blurring northward.

  46. Josh+P. Says:

If the page was 1 year older he would have been the age of consent. Another example of this happened back in 1983 with Gerry Studds (D-MA) who actually had sex with a 17 year old page, but TECHNICALLY did not break any laws. My perspective is this:
    1. He was in a position of power and had VERY inappropriate conversations with a subordinate.
    2. This kind of acting out in negative and secrative ways is a byproduct of repressed sexual feelings and living in the closet.
    3. There was a MAJOR coverup by the Republican leadership, and that is what is keeping this story in the news.
    4. I do not think he is a pedophile, I think he is a man with very poor judgement.
    5. People who say that male homosexuality is always going to produce older men with obsessions over young men are lying to themselves if they do not accept that Male HETEROsexuality always produces older men with obsessions over young WOMEN.

We have to stop this gay-bashing, as a gay man myself it hurts to even read the shit these people are saying.

    http://www.getsomejosh.com

  47. KingCranky Says:

Keep fighting the Good Fight Zeke, the number of homophobes shrinks by the day, and those who think you & your family are just as valid as those of your critics grow larger by the day

The Gay Bashers are on the losing side of history, they know it, and they hate that they can’t do anything to stop their eventual, rightful place, on History’s Rubbish Heap

Try HERE and HERE for more bashing of the bashers

Talk about irony, Zeke’s taxes pay for the free speech tax-exemptions by his clerical critics, who then bash the person/people making their organized religion’s tax exemption possible

I think the phrase here is “Taxation Without Representation”, and didn’t those words play some part in splitting away from the British way back when?

Those who can’t see the injustice of this should be asked how they’d like to subsidize the free speech rights of those encouraging hate & violence against them & their families

The homophobes time is already past, History-logical, rational thought-is just catching up to the idiots about to be left in its wake

  48. Russ+Weiss Says:

Homosexuals reproduce sexually by molesting children.

That has to be the most inane statement I’ve read in a long time, well, at least in the past 6 days.

  49. Zeke Says:

Thanks for all the kind words of support ladies and gentlemen. It really makes a difference when sometimes I get the feeling that the whole world hates gays and lesbians and works so hard to make our lives and your familiy’s lives hell.

It is especially good to hear from straight allies who support us even though they may not have a personal horse in the race.

We will never achieve equality and understanding without the help of our straight sisters AND BROTHERS.

    Thanks again. Ya’ll Rock!

  50. NewProg Says:

    Zeke, no thank you

For opening the hearts and minds of America. We straight guys are not the ones who spoke out against the injustices done to homosexuals, but you did. You didn’t do it by bashing the Bible or hating, you did it by being an honorable person. THANK YOU for your support in helping to end hate and discrimination in America. You are the reason democracies are so great.

After seeing Larry King’s pic… is he an alien??

  52. cosmosis Says:

I never thought much of John Walsh before. I assumed he was just a publicity hustler. I was wrong. He is correct about the GOP smear of gays.

  53. Mrs. Bailey Says:

When are we going to impeach Bush and rid the government of anti-gay, pro-war, selfish morons?

  54. Zeke Says:

#45 KingCranky, yes it is painfully ironic that my and my husband’s taxes pay for these tax exempt pastors’ free speech rights so that they can misinform people and tell the world that we are a threat to children, families, society and the church. Thankfully my denomination, the United Church of Christ, not only tolerates me and my family, they CELEBRATE us. Our faith is very important us. That’s what makes the attacks from fundamentalist Christians all the more painful to us.

It’s also painfully ironic that the income taxes that my husband and I have paid separately as “singles” for the full 15 years of our committed relationship pay for the marriage benefits and protections that my one neighbor enjoys with his THIRD wife (her second husband) and my other neighbor enjoys with his new wife that he met a year ago.

Also, the higher car insurance rates that we pay as “two single males” makes it possible for our married neighbors to receive huge discounts in their car insurance even though they’ve been together for a much shorter time and have had more accidents than we have.

Since I live in Florida, my husband is a legal stranger to me AND to OUR son. If I were to pass away, my son could very well be separated from the papa who has raised him since birth. If no one in my family were able to take him, he would end up in foster care. Even then his papa couldn’t adopt him because Florida law doesn’t allow gays to adopt.

It’s so depressing sometimes to do every thing I can possibly do to be a good and productive citizen but to get fewer legal rights and benefits than the inmates serving a life sentences in the State penitentiary. THEY are allowed to marry.

Hopefully some day America will love and appreciate us as much as we have loved, sacrificed for and appreciated her.

  55. Zooey Says:

Great comments, Zeke. Keep up the good work.

  56. Zooey Says:

    Hey Zeke,

Move to Idaho. All the idiots here are in an uproar about gay marriage, but your husband can adopt your child here.

I used to work for an attorney who does adoptions for gay couples all the time. :)

    Shhhh….

  58. Anais Says:

Recently attended a workshop on keeping kids safe that gave out information Walsh reconfirmed: Pedophilia, or pederasty, has nothing to do with sexual orientation! Most pedophiles, even those who pursue same-sex pedophilic relationships, are heterosexuals, and many are even married.
Can we please stop bashing gays?
I did not see the entire Walsh interview. Did he say anything about Foley’s work with him regarding missing and exploited children? What does Walsh think of Foley now?

  59. knackwurst Says:

Question: A male wants to have sex with other males. What does that make him, sexually?

Look at the root of the term “HOMOsexual” = SAME sex. Age has nothing to do with it. Pedophilia is an additional factor, a complication, but at it’s base it IS a “gay” issue. Male-male sexual contact is homosexual contact, period. Age makes it “acceptable” or “creepy,” but it’s “gay” all the same. Pedophilia can affect GIRLS, too, and it’s limited to male-male in this case.

Beyond that, it’s also a case of pederasty–young man/older man relationship. Pedophilia, as was pointed out, is prepubescent.

  60. Dan Says:

WOW, it seems like some people here can’t seem to grasp the obvious. What CP said in post 3 is FACT. Foley is NOT A PEDOPHILE. And the FACT is it doesn’t matter that the page he had inappropriate interaction with was male. What Foley did would be wrong wether the page was male or female. It honestly has nothing to do with him being gay. Being gay doesn’t make you want to go have relations with minors of the same sex, or any sex. Lets keep things simple, and straight to the point. What Foley did is disgusting because a 52 year old PERSON interacted inappropriately with a PERSON under age 18, PERIOD!!!!

  61. apakuni.com · It’s pedophilia, stupid! Says:

[…] When “Foleygate” broke, I was outraged like the rest of America. As disturbing as the events itself, the Republican spin machine has made my stomach turn. The neocon playbook includes labeling Foley and Hasert as Democrats … and subtly spinning Foley’s actions as related to his homosexuality and NOT his pedophilia. Hence, the Carville paraphrase in my headline. […]

  62. Pedo is the right term Says:

In contrast to the generally accepted medical definition, the term pedophile is also used colloquially to denote significantly older adults who are sexually attracted to adolescents below the local age of consent, as well as those who have sexually abused a child.

Ames, A. & Houston, D. A. (1990). “Legal, social, and biological definitions of pedophilia.” Archives of Sexual Behavior. 19 (4), 333-342.

  63. lilricky Says:

Are we still talking about the 18(not 16, read the facts) year old page conversing with (Former Senator)Foley via sexual emails/IM’s? I agree, he should have been removed from office, if only for misusing the country’s time/money on his preverted gay lifestyle.

  64. Cathy Says:

Zeke, I love your posts!! You are a most admirable human being. Very few people can get through all the bigotry with their heads screwed on straight. Thank you for having the courage and the sense to contribute to our society even though it often treats you terribly. I know of a few lesbian couples who are fantastic parents, and it really irks me that the religious holier-than-thou types attack programs like “Buster” for trying to teach our children tolerance (he visited a friend with two moms.) It is unfair that gays pay taxes but are not allowed to marry. Gay couples are often in far more loving relationships than the traditional nuclear families. Too often, traditional families are dysfunctional, with domestic violence setting the example for the children.

Sexual harrassment of any orientation has got to stop. Assumptions that gays are more likely to commit it are false, and people need to wise up.

I feel for you, and appreciate that you are changing the minds of formerly ignorant people. You are also a good writer, an inspiration to everyone who is aware of bigotry, and an excellent parent. Your son will turn out great, I have no doubt.

  65. m davey Says:

All discussion aside over the criminal nature of Foley’s alleged actions toward the under-aged-, how can people who engage in unquestionably homosexual acts be so anti-gay, you ask?

Easy. These people like Foley don’t live in the real world, y’all. Here’s how it goes. Write this down, Democrats, and any few Republicans with some remnant shred of real patriotism and loyalty to the United States:

Despite their obvious (alleged) repeated homosexual behavior, these Right wing Religious Republicans don’t consider themselves gay/homosexual. In their minds, what they are is SINNERS. Big difference. They are sinners giving in to the temptations the Devil has placed before them to trip them up, and discredit their message. Foley is a but a blip on their Divine Radar. He’ll ask for God’s forgiveness, and try to do better. Big deal, they think. Keep eyes on the prize, which is the keeping the Christian Jihad currently firing on all pistons, turbocharger and afterburner, via the Republican Party and the hijacked U.S. government.

At some point, it would be helpful if the policy-wonks on the progressive/liberal front realize that other than its value as either a stepping stone or an obstacle on the journey to Heaven, the Right doesn’t give a crap about America. They don’t care about the Presidency, the Constitution, America, democracy, the law, even human decency. They sure as hell don’t care about the Geneva Convention or international opinion! They are WAY above all those worldly inventions. They are God’s Warriors, whose reward is not on this earth or in this life, but in the hereafter, in Heaven . They are not accountable to anyone but God. Anyone expecting anything different of them is just being used.

[…] Page Summary: But, you know, making overt advances to 16-year-old boys from a 52-year-old man is nothing about gay. Bigots reproduce asexually by laying their eggs in the brains of teh stupid.
