If the resident trolls at TP are any indication of the 37%ers, they are braindead dittoheads that sit in front of Faux Snewze drooling onto their bibs.
He’s not been out of the 30’s in quite a while, and even then, only to hit the low 40’s. If theneocons wanna keep talking about Clinton – let’s talk about how his ratings dropped out of the high 50’s even during Monica-gate…
Oh, but that’s right – they don’t read polls (yeah, sure).
Frat boy, man-child George W Bush always had a rating of 0 in my book. Bush-boy is sick Rick “Rooster” Santorum’s favorite photo buddy. This will be part of Ricky’s fall in the Fall.
House Republican candidates will suffer massive losses if House Speaker Dennis Hastert remains speaker until Election Day, according to internal polling data from a prominent GOP pollster, FOX News has learned.
“The data suggests Americans have bailed on the speaker,” a Republican source briefed on the polling data told FOX News. “And the difference could be between a 20-seat loss and 50-seat loss.”
Fox reporting massive turnover if Hastert remains. With Fox’s historical plays and distortion with statistics, the numbers will probably 100 seat loss.
You have to know that 30% will always approve of Bush because these people truly believe that god chose Bush and therefore Bush is they’re only hope to have christian laws pushed down the throat of the nation. Until his approval goes below 30% or the dems take back both houses, nothing will change.
I love how bush isn’t running for another term, yet he defends Hastert and says nothing because he is too ill-eloquent. What a scumbag! Hey bush, you don’t have a comment on young boys being stalked by REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN? Uh, no…..DA… ]
By the way, why did they allow him to be the chairman of the’ Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus’ after knowing of his ‘issues’?
It is actually pretty amazing that 37% still think he is doing a good job. I suppose when you have your head buried in the sand it is probably easier to support him than think for yourself. As far as the Stock Market goes, you know that he will be touting that as a great achievement during the run-up to the elections. My observation is this… I have about $1,000 in stock in a few different companies. My life is not changing in the least because the Market is breaking records, and my guess is that it is not helping 70% of families in America. Once again the rich get richer and the poor and middle class are forgotten. In that sense, the Republicans are still winning.
#20 – that’s Fox’s tactic to scare their viewers of the Dem/Lib boogeyman…up til now they’ve been using the “they’ll impeach Bush if they take control” boogeyman, and of course the “Pelosi is bad because we like to insult her” boogeywoman. Too bad we don’t have a mass media outlet for our own demagoguery…..what’s that? we don’t practice demagoguery? – well there’s why we can’t get elecetd any more…..somebody call Howard and Harry right away!!
Off topic-The MSM keeps reporting “record Dow” closing. Funny, during Clinton years there was a new Dow high almost every week and it was not “Breaking News”. The MSM $ucks.
Still waiting around for that thread on the interrogation bill. hmmmmm.

Me too, dammit.
Ok, ok, Hastert’s the biggest ninny of the Grand Old Perverts, ok! We got it! Just make him talk to Rita Cosby, and he’ll commit public seppuku. Be done with it!
JoeFriday- well, if you were desperately trying to report anything but relevant news, you would scoop one of the FEW positive stories out there and LATCH ON, wouldn’t you?

Now is a good time to sell, Joe, because it’s a house of cards. I’m telling you, as soon as I’m off the muscle relaxers, I’m on the phone to the guy telling him to sell a lot of my stuff. BTW, you probably shouldn’t take financial advice from me.
Nope. But I love thinkprogress and have enjoyed reading your comments. You seem like a pretty cool person. i am just getting around to becoming a ‘poster’ so i will be around a lot more in the future than i have been in the past..
Bush approval drops. President Bush’s approval rating is at 38 percent in a new AP-Ipsos poll, and 37 percent in a new Pew poll.
Another lie posted by TP and the Soros lefty robots eat it up.
The Pew job approval poll has been showing 37% since August. Factor in the 4% MoE and you have an approval rating that has statistically been unchanged since last year. TP’s post is false and a lie.
As for AP-Ipsos. Changed by 1 pt since last month (no change with a 2.5% MoE), but is up from 33% in August. Bush’s lowest rating of 33% was this past May, but overall the AP poll has statiitically been unchanged since last year. Two lies in one post, TP. Great job.
Now add lying by ommission. Notice how TP picks the two lowest poll numbers. Now we’re up to three lies. Excellent job, TP.
So apparently Jeff Gannon just bailed out on the Randi Rhodes show-scheduled to be on@5:30pm-sent an email to Randi@5pm cancelling-sd he cancelled because she was ‘promoting him wrong’-he wanted to be shown as a member of the white house press corp(which he wasn’t), instead of a former outcall prostitute with unknown clearances-over 100 visits to the west wing- to the W.H.(which he was)
I’m amazed that there are still people who support him. HAHA! What the hell am I saying? I live in Idaho, Jesus. I know all the people who support him.
Yup! Sure looks like Pres. Bush has had a big slam in his approval/disapproval ratings! It went from:
40% approve/49% disapprove to
38% approve/59% disapprove
I think you need to work on that “liberal” education of yours that you’ve missed out on, Hippy-with-a-Pistol.
and dropping……the longer Hasters “holds his ground” and the longer Bush “stays the course”, the numbers will plummet. Just in time for the November elections. The retro “october surprise”??
WELL, I was sitting around watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air with a group of friends. #39: are you saying Bush’s numbers are actually LOWER than 37%? Wow, that’s incredible considering he’s around where Nixon was during impeachment, but you’re probably right. I mean, surely not even 1 out of 3 people in the country could think he’s doing a decent job, considering just how awful his record is. Thanks for pointing this out. Good stuff.
#60 – I’m more than happy to let Republican’ts continue to represent (screw) the citizens of Outer Redneckistan. With the kind of headway Harris and Foley are making in FL though, yours is certainly a point well taken. Congratulations on all the spectacular successes your party has achieved.
One time, everybody!! Yea!! for the Backwash!!! you’re so much gosh-darned clever than the (let’s be generous and call it 60) percent of the rest of us!! Ya-hooo! for you, ya big ol examples of fair play and goodness.
I think Bill Clinton’s approval rating at the time of his impeachment was around 70%. :P
Comment by Zooey — October 5, 2006
No, it briefly went up after Clinton bombed Iraq because he was a threat with his WMD. It plummeted about 10pts after impeachment until then end of his presidency.
It also went up to around 70 after Clinton bombed al-Shifa and the al-Qaeda camp. Remember? Clinton’s Iraq-OBL WMD connection? Clinton had us so worried about Saddam and OBL that everyone got excited that Clinton might finally be doing something to get rid of the threat. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/inatl/longterm/iraq/stories/attack121798.htm
“Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons,” Clinton said, adding: “Instead of the [U.N. weapons] inspectors disarming Saddam, Saddam has disarmed the inspectors. This situation presents a clear and present danger to the stability of the Persian Gulf and the safety of people everywhere.”
Just pulled this from Fox news so take it with a grain of salt (or buck shot)
“The data suggests Americans have bailed on the speaker,” a Republican source briefed on the polling data told FOX News. “And the difference could be between a 20-seat loss and 50-seat loss.”
You forget Hippie, no one was concerned about any WMD, except those found in Clinton’s pants. They neutered any attempt he ever made to kill OBL, by dismissing it as wag the dog.
In polls of close Senate races, Republicans are pulling away – MO, VA. If this keeps up, FL could become competitive…

“The data suggests Americans have bailed on the speaker,†a Republican source briefed on the polling data told FOX News. “And the difference could be between a 20-seat loss and 50-seat loss.â€
So where’s that big gain for the republican’s?

Aaaahhhhhhhhhh.
I think you just popped JMH’s special little balloon…
“Predator/Gate” crosses all political lines which means that the longer Hastert, the predator enabler, hangs onto his job, the more GOP damage it will do…you can see it occurring all over the country. I predict that by the time the GOP self-implosion is over and it’s nearing November, W’s numbers will be down to 28%. Predatorgate is doing more damage to the GOP than Watergate since it involves america’s children. Certainly all parents can relate to it with total disgust and adults were all children themselves so I would guess that it will touch everyone’s hearts & souls – more than any singular campaign issue could.
PredatorGate is the virtual end of the GOP as we’ve known it. The “fallout” from this will be felt for the next two years and into the election of 08. No doubt about it from the way it’s festering before our very eyes right now.
54: The approval rating is not surprising. That probably won’t get any lower. However the disapproval rating has gone up 10 points. That’s a HUGH deal.
Progressives are sad and despicable for constantly criticizing the President. They’re not perfect and pure themselves. Doesn’t everybody understand that we haven’t had a terrorist attack since 9/11? President Bush has handled his billet stupendously. The problem is that liberals continue to disparage his faults instead of acknowleding his accomplishments. In reality, his accomplishments overshadow his faults. You guys just can’t distinguish the two categories. BRAVOOOO MR. PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! progressives, groW UP.
You’re kidding, right?
That was some funny stuff. Terrorist attacks…
Hey, when was the last time the World Trade Centers were attacked? Wait, though, didn’t they actually catch the perps and convict them? Yeah, that’s right, it was Clinton. Hey – wasn’t that really early into his Presidency? He didn’t blame anyone else though, did he? Huh. No. Go figure.
Wow. Weren’t we safe after that?
No war. Just prosperity.

False. During the Whitehouse investigation Nixon made a brief stop in the high 30’s in during the summer of 73 (plummeting from 60+/- %) on it’s way down to 30%. Impeachment hearings began in the spring of 74. By that time Nixons’s ratings were around 30% and continued downward to about 24%.

Very true, I sold all my stocks in 2000 and bought real estate. I saw “the house of cards ” coming.
Oh Daryll, Our president will be remembered for being a divider not a uniter. He’ll be remembered for having more vacations than any president in the history of the United States. We’ll remember he snorted cocaine and dissapeared when he should have been in the Army Reserves. We’ll remember him flying 10,000 ft over Katrina bypassing it and “heck of a job Brownie”. I’ll remember him saying “wanted dead or alive” and then “I really don’t think about OBL that much”. I will also remember the deer in headlights look he had in the debates with Kerry when Kerry kicked his ass.
He’ll be remember allright. We’ll be paying for his legacy for a looong time.
come on – seriously, this has to be some kind of joke/parody thing right? this is too weird, i’m getting a creepy feeling all over – is it the rapture? Daryll and Paul, come on, quit kiddin around – you’re giving me the weebie-jeebies -
oh Josh, don’t you understand that, in a post-9/11 world, it’s impossible to have things like that, or the Constitution, or Bill of Rights, or any of those things that real patriots fight and die for. The new Patriotism means dying for hate and money, and lying full-time, instead of just occasionally, and doing away with science, and maybe, if we’re lucky, burning witches in the town square. The logical among us, like Daryll and Paul and me, we’re hip to this new program, and we’re saving up rocks and matches for that glorious day to come, praise jeebus.

Did I ever in my post defend Clinton? No because I realize he made mistakes. However he was not the president during 9-11 and if you and your right wing “moralists” would understand that you would quit blaming him for everything. I respect your critism of me and other liberals only if you use facts for your allegations. If that is to hard for you than I am done speaking to you…

Wrong, we knew he did as much as he could long before he put that jerk Wallace in his place.

Those comments were in NO WAY ‘chat room’ banter.
A person asked what it meant.
We were employing humor to illustrate the answer.
And a person is entitled in America to say, “Wow, beat me to
it.” The exchange you gave does not a chat room make.
Zooey, I’m not sure. The premise was to create an economical blackout by not buying anything, and if possible not working or going to school, although I knew that wouldn’t happen (had to beg my fiance to humor me and go to Home Depo tomorrow) but I had hoped that by taking it to the streets, at least those that are as pissed off as we are about what is going on would see that they are not alone and that they, too, have a voice to be heard.
Alas, no one was protesting, but there was a sh!tload of food shopping going down. Perhaps I mis-read the site.
GROCERIES FOR PEACE!! Damn, I knew I should have taken an extra peice of posterboard…
I think that there are so few people here sometimes that we could actually have a discussion and yet we chat in a ways…. Not that, that is bad but, I get cranky that things I want to do aren’t getting done. I go to other blogs and its worse. In general there is no conceptualizing on ideas, working them out and progression….I need to relax sometimes…
Thanks Zooey, by the way I made some responses to someone else’s comments and they were not nice towards you and someone else and I want to apologize. My apologies…. Thanks for breaking it down. -ren
Bush only as 5 weeks to catch Bin Laden or invade Iran if he wants to save his party from disaster!!!
Except then, everyone will KNOW he’s wagging the dog –
Exactly and that is the point, I remember not so long ago when bush forced everyone before congress to vote on the Iraq war. This time it will be an emergency strike and there will be no accountability politically because it will be too late.
As long as the voting machines are not rigged, we should do quite well in November. The problem is that they probably are rigged. Thom Hartmann was talking about an e-mail he received from Ken (closet case) Mehlman telling Republicans to get their absentee ballots in Vermont. It is kind of a stretch, but this might be an effort to make absentee ballots mirror the rigged machines more closely. If the machines say 55% R – 45% D then the absentee ballots would have to be close to that percentage. Having more republicans vote absentee would be a way to get the machines to match the absentee ballots… Scary, but possibly an ingenious diversionary tactic to stall criticism of the electronic machines…
BTW, you should know that when you first started commenting here, a truly vile troll hijacked your name, and, sadly enough, that may be coloring some the responses to you.
I posted the names, phone numbers, and E-mail of all the Democrats that voted in favor of S 3930 (the interrogation bill) on my personal Blog (www.getsomejosh.com). I e-mailed every one of them and if every one in here did the same it could ruffle some feathers… Here is the e-mail I sent to all of them:
The last time Habeas Corpus was suspended was during the Civil War. I am not convinced that it was right to do then, and am certainly not convinced that it is right to do now. Regardless, on September 29th, 2006 the Senate approved a bill that would suspend Habeas Corpus if you are determined to be †an unlawful enemy combatantâ€.
Is this some kind of sick joke? It is entirely possible now that you could say the wrong thing, protest the wrong politician, or post the wrong thing on your blog, and end up being an “enemy combatantâ€. This is not America. This is not Democracy. This is a Theocratic Police State. How do you sleep at night?

Yah it’s true (R-FL) Jason M Hendler trepanated himself with a 12 volt makita and a hole saw..
The neo-con practice of making a hole in the skull, known as trepanation, has been around since the Stone Age. Along with pedophelia it’s one of our oldest surgical procedures — archaeologists have found trepanned (R-FL) skulls dating back to 3000 B.C. Hippocrates, in his classic medical text “On Injuries of the R-FL Head,” endorsed trepanation for the treatment of neo-con head wounds. During bushianl times, the procedure was thought to liberate demons, such as Chavez described, from the heads of the possessed and, later on, GOPers did it to cure a hodgepodge of maladies ranging from corruption to pedophelia to neo-conism.

Bush the Nation-Builder
So much for campaign promises
by Paul Sperry
One of the biggest promises made by George W. Bush as a candidate – no more nation-building – has turned out to be his biggest lie as president.
In the final weeks of the 2000 campaign, Bush slammed the Clinton administration for doing exactly what he’s doing now, only worse. He warned voters his opponent Al Gore would turn more U.S. soldiers into “nation-builders” and “peacekeepers.” Bush pledged to exercise “judicious use of our military.”
These weren’t off-the-cuff remarks. The anti-nation-building rhetoric was part of a carefully crafted campaign strategy to position Bush solidly to the right of Gore on foreign policy. Bush was the conservative candidate, and true conservatives don’t get America mixed up overseas in bleeding-heart humanitarian missions.
When are the pro-bush folks ever gonna learn that george just can’t keep a promise?
My fellow Americans, it’s official now: We live in a fascist nation.
Now, the term “fascist” has been thrown around over the last fifty years in a loose way that has drained it of much of its meaning. If someone wanted to cut 5% off of a leftist professor’s favourite welfare programme, the professor would call his opponent a “fascist.” I’m not using the word like that. I mean honest-to-goodness, old-fashioned, 1930s style fascism, featuring such old favourites as:
Secret prisons – they’re back!
Torture – we’re doing it.
Spying on all citizens.
Arrests and indefinite imprisonment without trial.
Rampant militarism.
Secret detention.
Enforced disappearance.
Denial and restriction of habeas corpus.
Prolonged incommunicado detention.
Unfair trial procedures.
I knew Bush was a fraud the minute in the 2000 campaign when he proclaimed himself a “compassionate conservative.” As if he was better than a regular conservative. I always wondered if conservatives back then went “Hey, I’m compassionate too. I’d better back Bush otherwise people will think I’m an apathetic conservative.”
Not to alarm anyone, but upper 30 percentile approval proves our country is filled with idiots. 200 years after our Constitution was written and democracy was installed and we are still a country filled with dolts, suggests that democracy doesn’t work, at least our version. Personally, I think America deserves to fall from the top. A country that ended up with someone like Bush in charge, not once but twice, is headed for disintegration. Name an empire that stayed on top forever. Can’t? So why should we be so special? We aren’t! Bush has spent our country toward the fall, thanks to voter stupidity.
Did Paul argue up there that liberals are judgmental? Don’t conservatives oppose liberals because liberals are not judgmental enough, are too permissive, tolerant, etc.? Or, is it that being judgmental is reserved only for those on the right, who believe themselves to be doing it correctly? Geez, Paul, if you can’t recognize the circularity of the reasoning you’re applying, there’s something more basic than political orientation that you should concern yourself with.
tom. I’m sure you are not monolithic. Neither am I. I guess what I’m saying is, there are parts of both parties I disagree with. As an agnostic, and believe it or not self proclaimed social progressive, the thing that has been had to stomach with the republican party, is the hypocrisy, judgementalism, and the lack of tolerance. Those are values, I have admired about the left. I am sincerely submitting, that this incident with Foley is uncovering tendencies in liberals, I had believed were reserved for conservatives. I’m not arguing that reprisal is not fair play, I’m just saying tolerance makes liberals more attractive. Stay the course.
Former Leader of the House of Commons Robin Cook, who admirably resigned in protest of the 2003 Iraq invasion, penned a piece in the London Guardian shortly before his death that shed light on the true genesis of the name.
“Al-Qaida,” states Cook, “literally “the database”, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians.”
Al-Qaeda was a name made up in a manhatton court room in january 2001 as a name for group that attacked the Trade centre and a way of creating a flase name ” bit like using Mafia” basically to scare people
Bush sucks. Most people know it now. Too bad some people couldn’t figure it out sooner.

Yeah Denny, don’t resign. Keep up the bulldooky.
October 5th, 2006 at 4:39 pmYou have to know that 30% will always approve of Bush because these people truly believe that god chose Bush and therefore Bush is they’re only hope to have christian laws pushed down the throat of the nation. Until his approval goes below 30% or the dems take back both houses, nothing will change.
October 5th, 2006 at 4:42 pmWhich way does W’s approval rating spin as it goes down the toilet?
October 5th, 2006 at 4:42 pmI love how bush isn’t running for another term, yet he defends Hastert and says nothing because he is too ill-eloquent. What a scumbag! Hey bush, you don’t have a comment on young boys being stalked by REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN? Uh, no…..DA… ]
October 5th, 2006 at 4:43 pmBy the way, why did they allow him to be the chairman of the’ Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus’ after knowing of his ‘issues’?
You have to go to a different zip code to bail on this guy.
He so big, when he jumps up, he gets stuck.
October 5th, 2006 at 4:48 pmIt is actually pretty amazing that 37% still think he is doing a good job.

October 5th, 2006 at 4:51 pm#20 – that’s Fox’s tactic to scare their viewers of the Dem/Lib boogeyman…up til now they’ve been using the “they’ll impeach Bush if they take control” boogeyman, and of course the “Pelosi is bad because we like to insult her” boogeywoman. Too bad we don’t have a mass media outlet for our own demagoguery…..what’s that? we don’t practice demagoguery? – well there’s why we can’t get elecetd any more…..somebody call Howard and Harry right away!!

October 5th, 2006 at 5:19 pmBush approval drops.

October 5th, 2006 at 6:01 pm“Predator/Gate” crosses all political lines which means that the longer Hastert, the predator enabler, hangs onto his job, the more GOP damage it will do…you can see it occurring all over the country.

By the way Think Progress, are you EVER going to post about the dictoral powers Congress issued to Bush September 28th?
Just askin…

trueblue, aren’t you a school teacher on Long Island? You have something to smile about: just think of Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act.”
Rumor has it that Foley wanted to rewrite it, calling it “No Childs Behind Left Behind Act,” but Hastert wouldn’t hear it.

I went to the organized rally (www.worldcaontwait.net, that I posted here a bunch) here in Bmore….and I was the only one.
I came home with my “Silence Is Complicity” sign between my legs. I thought this would be the day people would speak up. No one did.

October 5th, 2006 at 7:49 pmZooey, I’m not sure.

October 5th, 2006 at 8:17 pmExcept then, everyone will KNOW he’s wagging the dog –

October 5th, 2006 at 8:25 pmI posted the names, phone numbers, and E-mail of all the Democrats that voted in favor of S 3930 (the interrogation bill) on my personal Blog (www.getsomejosh.com).

October 6th, 2006 at 12:28 amWhen are the pro-bush folks ever gonna learn that george just can’t keep a promise?
October 6th, 2006 at 2:38 amMy fellow Americans, it’s official now: We live in a fascist nation.
October 6th, 2006 at 4:58 amTorture – we’re doing it.
October 6th, 2006 at 10:49 amHippie with a pistol? use it, but make sure you’re alone.
October 6th, 2006 at 11:16 amDid Paul argue up there that liberals are judgmental? Don’t conservatives oppose liberals because liberals are not judgmental enough, are too permissive, tolerant, etc.? Or, is it that being judgmental is reserved only for those on the right, who believe themselves to be doing it correctly? Geez, Paul, if you can’t recognize the circularity of the reasoning you’re applying, there’s something more basic than political orientation that you should concern yourself with.
October 6th, 2006 at 1:26 pmtom.
October 6th, 2006 at 3:15 pmConservatives are flag burning America haters.
That is why Bush’s numbers are in the tank.
October 6th, 2006 at 3:33 pm“Al-Qaeda” Does Not Exist
Former Leader of the House of Commons Robin Cook, who admirably resigned in protest of the 2003 Iraq invasion, penned a piece in the London Guardian shortly before his death that shed light on the true genesis of the name.
“Al-Qaida,” states Cook, “literally “the database”, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians.”
According to the BBC documentary The Power of Nightmares watch this BBC documentary for more amazing facts
Al-Qaeda was a name made up in a manhatton court room in january 2001 as a name for group that attacked the Trade centre and a way of creating a flase name ” bit like using Mafia” basically to scare people
