There is selecting the victim (usually someone vulnerable), having an excuse to be in close contact (volunteering to work with youth, for example), gifts, inappropriate attention and touches, getting the child's trust, getting the child alone and perhaps intoxicated, showing the child porn. Anything to make the child confused, guilty etc so they dont seek another adult's help. It is a pattern such predators now in prison have confessed in order to help society prevent such abuse of children in the future. I would think that the government leaders who are tasked with protecting children from internet solicitation would know much better. In modern times with modern social science and recent news coverage there really is no excuse not to have appropriate preventive knowledge. The ignorance of some of the commenters about Foley being "naughty" or of children who "should have resisted" is appalling. Thank you for your post. They also endangered children when they didn't go to the police ASAP. So Hasert, other repug leaders, and the media are all responsible. I hope we will see some arrests of the ABC management as well as other media outlets from the FBI soon. Covering this up and not reporting it was a really bad thing to do. They should all go to jail.
