“He said he expects to run again for House Speaker after the election.”

Whoa there buddy, you don’t have a majority in January, yet.

  2. e_five says:

    Cue the sad music.

  3. SKdeA says:

    Nothing wrong? Really? Prove it.
Can’t wait to see what skeleton pops out of his closet, it will be interesting. No one gets to that level of power without ruthlessness and arrogance, so I am positive he has done SOMETHING wrong!

  4. clb72 says:

This is how a Republican “accepts responsibility” for something. The buck stops here! Wait, what buck. Does anyone see a buck?

  5. Disgraceful says:

come on TP lets get on with waterboarding and torture

  6. Zeke says:

That will be hard to do if he’s not sent back to Congress or EVEN MORE LIKELY is sent back as a member of the MINORITY party.

  7. Drew+Mackenzie says:

The difference between being a follower and being a leader is that as a leader you can still do something wrong even when you don’t do anything at all.

You’re responsible for your actions, and your inaction.

  8. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

Issuing a proclamation that you have done nothing wrong doesn’t work in America. We work with evidence and it is pouring in.

  9. Flaming+Gay+Republican says:

You go girl! You tell them hooz boss!

  10. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

Don’t hold your breath, Dennis Hastert. There won’t be a Republican controlled House after this November election.

  11. Disgraceful says:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States was not making “a lethal threat” when an envoy warned North Korea that it could not have both a future and a nuclear weapon, the White House said on Thursday.

    Yes definately threatening behaviour

  12. oxillini says:

Does he intend to run for Speaker of the House as a member of the minority party? That would be quite a feat!

  13. CONservative says:

Okay, so ‘the buck stops here’ he says? The last person who said that (who also happens to be a Republican) has spent the last six years passing it, so we know to expect more of the same. And did anyone else catch his quick zinger at the end essentially calling this a political stunt (presumably by the Dems)? Guess that business about ‘the buck stops here’ lasted a whopping five minutes!

  14. Doktor+Texas says:

Go take the polls at ABC and CBS. The People have spoken. Bye fatso.

  15. Disgraceful says:

    Waterboarding Republic

The public’s opposition to this Draconian law is the only thing that will give Congress the backbone to preserve our freedoms.

FOX News says the GOP’s private polling data
says the Fascists could lose 20-50 House seats

  20. unitynow says:

“enabling a known predator of minors” = doing othing wrong? I believe it’s called “in loco parentis” – which means that the “adults” running the Page program were acting “in place of” the parents of the kids. I believe that Hastert’s silence is “plenty wrong”….even if he knew about it for one week and did nothing, it’s culpable negligence and aiding a predator.

  21. oldtree says:

I haven’t done anything “,” wrong. I don’t know Rep. Reynolds, or Boehner, or Alexander or Foley. I can’t keep track of new congress persons. After all, my staff does all my work and I don’t know anything about the day to day, no, minute to minute actions of the house of reprehensible. That is not my job after all, I am in charge of the House of Representatives. What I do is not your business and I won’t answer any questions again, ever.

    we should have people asking:
why won’t you take any questions congressman?
do you know of other closeted gay legislators that the public should know about?
do you know about any other pedophiles in the legislative or executive body? (add all of government)
have you hidden evidence of a crime under (add statutes of federal laws congress has created to protect children from pedophiles)

why is no one answering any questions?

  22. unitynow says:

First the outrage from the people will call for Hastert to be removed; then it will be Reynolds (they’re both indicted by the info given by Reynold’s former chief of staff already) – then Shimkus….and finally Boehner. Boehner’s already attemtping to distance himself by blaming Hastert so it will surely become the quintessential “GOP feeding frenzy”. Let’s see who gets thrown under the next bus? I hear one coming….

  23. Your+Conscience says:

What gives TP why would you post then remove my post? Censorship on free speech?

Pretty pathetic. No strike that, VERY PATHETIC.

  24. unitynow says:

And, under that bus will be a few others….as the people seethe with anger toward this administration’s handling of Iraq.

  25. Technodaoist says:

“I’ve done nothing wrong,” Hastert said

“…and I sure as hell didn’t do anything right.” his subconcious inner monologue was heard to say.

  26. unitynow says:

And if ole’ Denny’s in that much of a “brain fart” then he needs to step down for that reason alone….he doesn’t know who’s doing what on his own staff? Get rid of the fat old windbag!

  27. Jay Randal says:

Hastert is completely senile, so he must resign > PERIOD. He even screwed up the phone number he gave out for Pages to call the FBI > he flipped two numbers, so if you call that you get a massage parlor > lol.

  28. tom+baker says:

Ain’t done nuthin right either, Denny….funny how that goes….enjoy the next few days buddy.

  29. Doktor+Texas says:

#23 I’ve been censored on your side of the isle as well. Truthiness is sometimes uncomfortable.

  30. TheToonGuy says:

He’s half right. What Hastert meant to say was “I’ve done nothing.”

  31. Dave von Ebers says:

Jeez, Denny, can you be any more defensive? The “liberal media” is out to get me. It’s all political. I haven’t done anything wrong …

Have some humility, Denny. Let the investigation take its course. Cooperate with the investigation. Acknowledge that you’re in a leadership position.

But all this guy can do is go on the attack and deny any responsibility, even though he is Speaker of the House and his office was notified that there were problems.

Is Hastert completely incapable of accepting responsibility for anything?

  32. Theresa says:

#27, yeah, I caught that wrong number immediately 384 rather than 348. Haven’t seen a correction yet, either.

  33. Caroll says:

Hopefully, Mr. Hastert will not be the speaker of the house because the Rs will be the minority party in Janurary. Lord knows, they deserve minority status.

Instead of taking responsibility, they blame everyone but themselves for this entire debacle. To suggest that Democrats are to blame is just plain wrong. Democrats did not stalk pages. Democrats did not cover up the stalking of pages by a pedophile. Democrats did not invite pages out for ice cream. Democrats did not have internet sex with pages.

This bunch of Republicans are a disgrace. They have put power before the safety of young men. But then again, they don’t really care about young men and women or they would have a plan to end the Iraq war beyond staying the course. A lot of young men and women have died this month and all these Republicans can do is blame Democrats for their failings.

  34. lw says:

We can have Hastert as Speaker (the guy who covers up pedophilia in the Capitol), or we can have Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. The voters will have a clear choice. I hope they choose wisely.

I choose Nancy. But then my Congressman is Lloyd Doggett, whom I would vote for in any case. It’s almost like having 2 votes in 1: 1 for Lloyd Doggett, and 1 for Nancy Pelosi.

  35. mpp says:

That was a disgusting appearance from Dennis “Obese” Hastert. The Foley scandal is a serious criminal matter, and all he can do is take shots at Democrats. And no resignation. What a smug SOB. Despite what some pundits are saying, this appearance won’t placate the angry religiou s base of the GOP. http://www.polibuzz.blogspot.com
    He alienated everybody.

  36. Jimi says:

He has to beat John Laesch for his seat before he can run for Speaker. Or maybe he can do that from Wisconsin after he has been retired in his dreams.

  37. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

“I’ve done nothing wrong.” – Dennis Hastert
“I’ve done nothing wrong.” – George Bush
“I’ve done nothing wrong.” – Saddam Hussein

  38. Karim says:

Let me get this straight. You earmark money for a road that just happens to go through land that you own, fail to protect children in your page program, and now you say that you will run again for House Speaker, after claiming that you did nothing wrong. Hastert, you had better pray that the Republicans win this election, otherwise, you might want to see if the prisons have jumpsuits in 5XL.

  39. ForTruth says:

Hastart, of course you didn’t do anything wrong ol’ buddy.

You failed to do what was right.

  40. Hamhands Hasturd says:

    The butt stops here!

  41. Wayne says:

Hastert — “I havent done anything wrong, unless you think covering up for a pedophile to win elections wrong.”

  42. RealityCheck says:

    Two points, guys:

    1) The longer Hastert stays in, the lower the numbers go for the Republicans, so that’s a good thing.

    2) “I’m staying” is politico talk for: “I don’t plan on being forced out for at least another 24 hours.”

  43. ren says:

I love how bush isn’t running for another term, yet he defends Hastert and says nothing because he is too ill-eloquent. What a scumbag! Hey bush, you don’t have a comment on young boys being stalked by REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN? Uh, no…..DA… ]
By the way, why did they allow him to be the chairman of the’ Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus’ after knowing of his ‘issues’?

  44. ren says:

  46. Zooey says:

That’s right Denny, you just didn’t do anything. That’s the problem, sweetie darling.

  47. Marie says:

Of course not, fatboy, — we know you have always been upright and ethical.
Even when you made $2.8 million in a couple of years on a local land deal with a $60,000 investment. You didn’t have inside information and influence at all, we know that.
When you heard of the scandal surrounding Foley, you did the right thing – you marched right over there and told him to stop it. That was the right thing to do, we know that.

  48. Marie says:

Of course not, fat boy – we know you have always been upright and responsible.
Like that $2.8 million land deal on your $60,000 investment. We know you didn’t have any inside information or influence.
When you heard about the Foley matter, you did the right thing – you went right over there and told him to stop it.
We know you always do the right thing.
    Right.

  49. Jason+Baddo says:

#36 Is Hastert completely incapable of accepting responsibility for anything?

Are the Repubs completely incapable of accepting responsibility for anything ?

Rumsfield: I won’t resign (though he is the major source of the Iraq debacle)

Condi: Knew about the pre-9/11 intel warnings, denied it, then admitted there was a meeting with Tenet.

Life goes on. If these people were in the private sector they would have long since gone!
