“The number of U.S troops wounded in Iraq has surged to its highest monthly level in nearly two years as American GIs fight block-by-block in Baghdad to try to check a spiral of sectarian violence that U.S. commanders warn could lead to civil war.”
Just what the hell is a civil war if it isn’t to opposing groups (Sectarian) of the same Country killing (Violence) each other? I’m sorry Senator Frist, but civil wars all look alike to me and 70% of the other true Americans.
My younger brother goes back for his second tour soon, it’s an uncovered story by the major media on what this war has done to families and the incredible amount of bodily injuries that will alter families for decades.

Surely, Iraq is facing the most important and critical 6 months of their new existence. We’ll be turning the corner soon.
But seriously, I’m sick of everything going on with Iraq. We will forever be remembered as criminals because of this act. This is a stain that will never be washed off–ever.

Is it stay the course or stay and die? Or is it stay the course and return to this country with less than the same amount of limbs that one had before one landed in Iraq? Or is it stay the course and return to this country with third degree burns over one’s body? Or is it stay the course and return to this country screaming in the middle of the night because of what a soldier has witnessed and/or participated in?
If the Democrats have any common sense at all, they and their crack marketing team would be running ads stating the above comments in every major news outlet throughout the country. But, as Jack Nicholson’s character stated in that film, A Few Good Men, they can’t handle the truth, which is that removing those troops from that quagmire as soon as possible will save their lives, both physically and psychologically.
BUsh says Iraq is a “comma” in the annals of history; Snow says the casualties are just numbers.
We know what they think: the only sane thing to do is to get our guys out of there.
“There is a lot of pressure for soldiers not to speak out. There’s fear of court-martials. There’s fear of their commanders getting mad at them. There’s a lot of reasons why soldiers don’t speak out.
But nobody should be fooled.
Soldiers know what’s going on over there, and they are not happy about it.”
The military recruiters have started calling my students at home. They have become that desperate for young boys to enlist. The Bush twins are old enough. Send them.
Pretty much. Though, we’ve been throwing NCLB back in their faces. I’m still waiting for my grant money to start my program. So, one of my students called the governor and told him he was a child being left behind because we haven’t gotten our grant yet. I’m waiting for the IRS to come audit me as a result, but it’ll be worth it :).
My students have my permission to leave my classroom if any recruiters come into it. I told them it’s their Constitutional right to do so.
A former boss of mine, a retired Marine colonel, described being in a group of Marines trapped and surrounded in Hue City, for several hours during the Tet Offensive. Terrifying. I hate to think that it’s happening all over again in Iraq.
Yes other news blogs are reporting that North Korea successfully tested a nuke device underground! Nothing can be done about it, unless Bush wants to attack the NK setting off a nuclear war, which could destroy all of Korea and kill millions of civilians too! An attack on the NK would also result in the deaths of all our troops in the DMZ, so an instant loss of almost 40,000 soldiers, if Bush sets off a war! Plus the NK would send about 1 million soldiers across the border to kill every American or foreigner found in Seoul > it would be a bloodbath!
And you wonder why so many people question whether or not liberals “support the troopsâ€.
Comment by Mark Glesne
Strawman arguments get short shrift around here; the evidence points to republicans not giving a sh*t about the troops, given their votes against funding for troop protection. Don’t you get tired of having to lie for the republicans?
Please, the Republican record stands ridiculously tall compared to that of the Democrats when it comes to defense spending.
The $417 billion defense spending bill that President Bush signed in July 2004 was 12 percent higher than the average budget during the Cold War, according to the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA), which tracks federal defense spending.
The Pentagon expects to spend nearly $490 billion by fiscal year 2009 as new ships, planes and next-generation fighting tools come off the production lines. That’s 23 percent higher than the average Soviet-inspired U.S. defense budget, CSBA states.
I was actually surprised to hear this reported on CBS News last night. I actually thought that they’d forgotten about the war. But Lara Logan won’t let them forget.
Paul Krugman tears the right wing a new one for the ongoing demonization of George Soros, most recently in the Foley affair in “The Paranoid Style.”
Bush and Cheney are happy to send other people’s sons and daughters to war, but they were noticably absent when they were called to Vietnam. And their children are also noticably absent from military service as are the children and grandchildren of those who continue to say “Stay the Course”.
The time has come to chart a new course. Vote Democrat in all races (and vote absentee if you live in Diebold country).
#32. You seem incapable of comprehending the simple fact that there is a difference between supporting our troops and enabling Bush’s war machine. The best way to support our troops is to oppose the use of our children in Bush’s illegal and immoral war. What is pathetic is the fact that you don’t understand, yet you claim knowledge of how other’s feel.
Head’s up all, chief pupett, war monger in charge to speek in 10 minutes on CNN……..Damn, just another Monday in bull shit bush bizarro world…Blessings All
Briseadh na Faire you seem incapable of comprehending the simple fact that our troops can refuse to obey bad or “immoral” orders, so they are in this shit as much as the commander in chief and his ilks puppets. BTW are you a lawyer yet or what?
#44 De Profundis…..May I submit a question and coment PLEASE.. First have you ever served in the military.? What branch.? I have not but lived a long time and know a little about such matters…..Next, just what do you think happen’s to any service person who goes against order’s from the top…..May I sugest the very best cenario is they can get jail time for being insabortinate…The very worst they get dead….Get real, wake up please..
“Highest Unit Re-enlistment Rate — Any outfit that has been in Iraq recently. All the danger, all the hardship, all the time away from home, all the horror, all the frustrations with the fight here — all are outweighed by the desire for young men to be part of a band of brothers who will die for one another. They found what they were looking for when they enlisted out of high school. Man for man, they now have more combat experience than any Marines in the history of our Corps.”
From the letter unbelievable #16 is talking about-
…they enjoy playing God…
…then want sympathy…
…62% of miliotary voted for Bushiva and l’il dick…
Sharon Cox, AIR FORCE and you know that very well!!! …IN SOME WAYS STILL DOING IT!……no prison time when you are right and cut the bullshit! If you don’t wanna take orders you think are bad , read the manual, you can do it! Prison time? More bullshit! Just quit or you became a prostitute!
#47 Ah yes…Ofcourse…I don’t have the figures at hand but remember well how many of our troop’s over the year’s have been silenced by their own…Some one here I’m sure has that info…Un like you sir I know what our government can and has done to it’s service personell and citizens of the united states for over 40 year’s….From testing LSD to poisening the water way’s in California in the late 40’s….But then you knew that, right?……I did not know you served, how would I.?….Also, know lot’s of young servicemen in now and they have commented on strict obedience to order’s, it’s the military way, no matter what……Perhap’s in you’re part of the elite service thing’s are diffrent.?….They sure worked well for bush and his service to air national guard, didn’t they.
“You seem to think the right track is only NOT serving in the military. That’s just pathetic.
And you wonder why so many people question whether or not liberals “support the troopsâ€.
Comment by Mark Glesne — October 9, 2006 @ 1:54 am”
Saw your blog, Coulter, Malkin, says a lot about your politics. Cangrats to getting back in one piece and a sane mind?
First we didn’t loose anything in Iraq that cold hard cash wouldn’t have bought, namely oil.
Second, how come the the recruiters are desperate when there are at least 50% of the country in the conservative, red camp, why are their kids not mobbing the recruiting stations to fight the terrorist over there, so they won’t come here?
Making unsolicited phone calls is the start of of a rude society, I know I am getting grumpier with every call I get.
You claim things are looking up in Iraq, are those 10-20-30 bodies per day in Baghdad fiction? If not, why are americans so upset over a few killing in this country, chucks on or two out of 10 times the population is nothing to see here folks just move on.
#48: De Profundis is absolutely right. Military personnel have the right to disobey illegal and immoral orders and are in fact EXPECTED to do so. They teach about this from very early in a new warrior’s training regiment (aka boot camp).
But no matter how much you liberals hate to hear it, Iraq is not an illegal war. Deal with it - it’s not. Hence people like Lt. Watada are on their way to prison for refusing their orders to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
BTW Sharon, your I “know lot’s of young servicemen in now and they have commented on strict obedience to order’s” argument is pointless and anecdotal. Of course the military has strict obedience to orders!! Anyone who has served understands this.
But we also understand that our culture does not prohibit us from refusing illegal orders. Again, Iraq is not illegal. You may feel that way, but factually and legally speaking it is not. Get over yourself. Let us fight, you just keep whining.
#49: Where do I begin?
“Cangrats to getting back in one piece and a sane mind”
Thanks! It was my pleasure serving in Iraq under the President you all love so much. In fact, the reason I joined the military - after college, after obtaining my foot in the corporate world - was to serve in Iraq. As soon as I was given the opportunity I volunteered for a tour of duty. Luckily I was one of the 30 men selected from 83 to go when I did. Fhew!
“First we didn’t loose anything in Iraq that cold hard cash wouldn’t have bought, namely oil.”
You make the same tired, weak oil argument that the Left has been making for years. Let me ask you - if Bush and his evil Halliburton buddies went into Iraq for oil… why haven’t we taken it yet? Hmmm, common sense.
“how come the the recruiters are desperate…”
Ummm, because it makes sense that recruitment would go down during two bloody wars. Again, it’s that whole common sense thing. And besides the fact that the Army is ending their BEST RECRUITING YEAR SINCE 1997, I still contend that the military missing recruitment quotas is good for my morale (read article).
“You claim things are looking up in Iraq, are those 10-20-30 bodies per day in Baghdad fiction?
Of course they’re not fiction. But they are, unfortunately, the result of war. Did you expect to fight a way without death? Of course Iraqis are dying - they are standing up to take control of their country and are being targeted by terrorists.
“why are americans so upset over a few killing in this country”
Because Americans in general have no historical perspective or any understanding of how to win a war.
“chucks on or two out of 10 times the population is nothing to see here folks just move on.”
That didn’t make any sense whatsoever. But then again, not much of what you say does in the first place!
My neighbor is in Iraq and is disgusted by what he sees over there; essentially a grab bag for US Companies with no concern for US Troops, or Iraqi civilians. The past six years disgust me to no end and I honestly feel we need to bring back the draft and make this country do a real gut check on this war. I would be surprised how many folks out there would be for it and the GOP if we send little white, well to do Bobby and Cindy off to war.
I guess it’s easier to send other peoples’ children off to die for a lie than your own. Although, if Cheney/Bush would not serve when their number was called I hardly expect them to send theirs over there. As for the guy who tells his students to learn more about the Constitution, kudos. Better have them re-read the Bill of Rights before the Bushies try to take those away as well.
But you want to know what really grinds my gears; you America, fuck you!! Your fat, apathetic and you cannot get your lazy ass out there and vote. You’ve got the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and Rove leading the charge to the end of times and you cannot even put down the QP with Cheese to go out and make a difference.
This country has gotten exactly what is deserves; so unless you turn out in 5 weeks you can all go to hell; which is right across the border down Mexico way. Wait, that’s right I might as well live in Mexico being in Soutern California. Go read, or re-read The Hollow Men by TS Elliot, its spot on for the current Administration and Congress.
Now that GWB has admitted that Iraq had no WMD, no al Qeada, and was not involved in 9/11, why do you think we went over there? How do you justify it, in your own mind?
Were you over there fighting so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus? Among so many other things…
Believe me, I’m happy you’re back and able to run your blog, but I am curious about your possible anwers to my questions.
Sorry Mark that I am no as clear in my writing, nor as eloquent, maybe because I joined the USAF back in 1966. Granted I wanted some choice, but it did interrupt my college ambitions, terminally I might add.
The truth on recruiting seems to rest on two planks: a crappy economy, and reduced quotas, i. e. reduced expectations by the DOD.
The part that you seem to have trouble with is that if the civilian casualties can be considered commas, then surely we should’nt get all worked up if a few people get killed in the US at random? After all the population is 10 times as large so those death are very small print commas indeed.
Lets not forget the oil question. Seems that it is very, very difficult to produce oil if the owners think otherwise. Welcome to the new world of “smart cruise missiles build by unskilled labor”.
#52, I alway’s try to give other poster’s with new names the benefit of the doubt. It had occured to me to ask you’re previous user name..It also came to mind you were a troll but I didn’t bother….Well troll, with any luck on our side you and you’re merry bunch of war mongers can bend over and kiss you’re free ride to eternal war good bye in Nov…
As a former U.N. chief weapons inspector said: “The fundamental problem with Iraq remains the nature of the regime, itself. Saddam Hussein is a homicidal dictator who is addicted to weapons of mass destruction.”
But I think perhaps the best way to explain to liberals why we’re in Iraq is to quote the same people you all have voted for:
“The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow.” — Bill Clinton
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security.” — Hillary Clinton, October 10, 2002
“I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons…I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out.” — Clinton’s Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003
“Iraq is not the only nation in the world to possess weapons of mass destruction, but it is the only nation with a leader who has used them against his own people.” — Tom Daschle
“I share the administration’s goals in dealing with Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction.” — Dick Gephardt in September of 2002
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.” — Bob Graham, December 2002
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.” — Ted Kennedy, September 27, 2002
“There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein’s regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed.” — Ted Kennedy, Sept 27, 2002
“Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.” — Al Gore, 2002
“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.” — From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others.
“This December will mark three years since United Nations inspectors last visited Iraq. There is no doubt that since that time, Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to refine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer- range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.” — From a December 6, 2001 letter signed by Bob Graham, Joe Lieberman, Harold Ford, & Tom Lantos among others.
“Whereas Iraq has consistently breached its cease-fire agreement between Iraq and the United States, entered into on March 3, 1991, by failing to dismantle its weapons of mass destruction program, and refusing to permit monitoring and verification by United Nations inspections; Whereas Iraq has developed weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological capabilities, and has made positive progress toward developing nuclear weapons capabilities” — From a joint resolution submitted by Tom Harkin and Arlen Specter on July 18, 2002
“Saddam’s goal … is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed.” — Madeline Albright
“(Saddam) will rebuild his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and some day, some way, I am certain he will use that arsenal again, as he has 10 times since 1983″ — National Security Adviser Sandy Berger
“There’s no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat… Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He’s had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001… He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn’t have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we.” — Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002
Sharon cox , this troll, as you call me , why i don’t know, took you and your blogger friends for the ride of your life! Ask Judd, he loves me now! Lol!!!
Perhaps cuz i discovered a few things about your dirty tricks. Salon and New York times knows what i am capable of,… What an idiot you are cox! Just drop it before you hurt yourself even further with this “troll”!……..Unbelieveble dont get jealous now…..:)
In “our business” you don’t have to make the paper to tell the truth or do some damage to your enemy, if you know what i mean. If you don’t understand ask the editor or just change hobby, ciao ciao dear!
Though you have cited factually several quotes by various people now opposed to this war, I wonder if you recall that they were giving those opinions based on false evidence provided by this administration.
In other words, they were giving opinions in good faith, based upon evidence given in bad faith.
Could it be that Saddam’s intent was to goad the US with WMD, which were clearly non-existent, in order to acheive some sick goal known only to Saddam?
Will you address my question in paragraph 2 of #51?
“…they were giving those opinions based on false evidence provided by this administration.”
Stop kidding yourself. What “false evidence” were Democrats shown that caused them all to believe the same thing? Democrats saw ALL the same evidence everyone else saw and came to the same conclusion everyone else came to. However, when they realized Bush was actually going to do something about Saddam (unlike Clinton who only bombed Iraq from the sky) they changed course.
Or, perhaps you’re admitting that the Democrats in leadership were too stupid to decipher between good information and bad. More Democrats out-smarted by Bush & Co.?
“Will you address my question in paragraph 2 of #51?”
Ummm, paragraph 2 of #51 says: “I guess it’s easier to send other peoples’ children off to die for a lie than your own. Although, if Cheney/Bush would not serve when their number was called I hardly expect them to send theirs over there. As for the guy who tells his students to learn more about the Constitution, kudos. Better have them re-read the Bill of Rights before the Bushies try to take those away as well.”
And was posted by Chad.
I’ll assume you meant #52 and proceed… =)
“Were you over there fighting so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus? Among so many other things…”
Not entirely, I was fighting for oil too. ;-) (In case you missed it, that was a joke.)
Allow me to clarify with a question of my own: Please tell me how your right as an American citizen to habeus corpus has been taken away.
What “false evidence†were Democrats shown that caused them all to believe the same thing? Democrats saw ALL the same evidence everyone else saw and came to the same conclusion everyone else came to.
I beg to differ. The Dems did not see all of the evidence. Have you read the Downing Street minutes? I will assume I have been dismissed as of now, but will proceed, just in case.
Please tell me how your right as an American citizen to habeus corpus has been taken away.
The deed is pending. And it wouldn’t just be my right to the protection of habeas corpus, it’s your right, too. Are you paying attention to the content of the Torture Bill? And GWB’s very bad habit of using signing statements? Slippery slope, my dear, and these are very dangerous times indeed.
I did answer your question! I told you, I wasn’t just fighting “so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus” - I was also fighting for oil.
Oh yes, the “Torture Bill”. Oooohh. Scary. =)
You see, I’m not worried, because I’m not an unlawful enemy combatant:
- - - - - -
(1) UNLAWFUL ENEMY COMBATANT- (A) The term `unlawful enemy combatant’ means–
(i) a person who has engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its co-belligerents who is not a lawful enemy combatant (including a person who is part of the Taliban, al Qaeda, or associated forces); or
(ii) a person who, before, on, or after the date of the enactment of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, has been determined to be an unlawful enemy combatant by a Combatant Status Review Tribunal or another competent tribunal established under the authority of the President or the Secretary of Defense.
- - - - - -
So unless this describes you - you have nothing to worry about.
I did answer your question! I told you, I wasn’t just fighting “so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus†- I was also fighting for oil.
You admitted that was a joke, which I actually did recognize at the time, so, no, you have still not answered my question.
So unless this describes you - you have nothing to worry about.
Comment by Mark+Glesne
The point you’re missing, Mark, is that those paragraphs don’t have to describe you or me.
After GWB finishes with his very special signing statement, all you or I have to do is make someone think we might be an unlawful enemy combatant — and we’re gone. That’s not the United State of America I love.
Fear not my frightened liberal friend, you (and I) will still rate our habeas corpus rights as we always have. The president is not about to abolish them and to think otherwise is quite moonbattish of you.
Tell you what, on your 90th birthday if you haven’t been imprisoned unlawfully… you owe me $50,000.
I am perfectly calm, Mark, and I don’t live my life in fear.
Even if I am not imprisoned due to the loss of my habeas corpus rights, I am not the only person due that consideration. There are others in this country, citizens, who would come under closer scrutiny than me.
You are very confident in your belief in this administration. I truly hope you are not disappointed.
There is no section of the bill which specifically states you or I will lose our rights under habeas corpus, however, given GWB’s habit of using signing statements, it is a genuine risk.
#73 Are you an idiot? Habeus corpus rights are not taken away? If you are a protester, they certainly are since the Decider can decide that you are an enemy combatant. You don’t have to worry about that since you have no balls but those of us who do might run afoul of big bad Georgie and his Decidering.
Zookeeper i am doing great, how you doing? As you know i am in Rome right now, eating divine food, enjoing this eternal city, doing some shopping, and finishing to wreck yours and your friends records.
Be back home on wed, so we can take it back from where we left it . Don’t work too hard( lie your ass off) it’s not worth it , by now you should know you can’t fu*k with me anymore.
Please the name Santo,…..do i look like a santo to you?…..start calling me Mary now….:)
What’s the matter do you miss my italian’s serenade? …..or as you american twisted folks calls it ….harassment!…..lol!!!
Wait for me the fun it’s not over yet, ….ciao belli!…….:)
Keep up the good work and NEVER let any of these treasonous liberals get you down. If need be, I will come back up our troops and I’vew been out of the Corps for over 20 years!!
By the way they have undermined our great heroes, the servicemen who fight for us all, it clearly shows that the LOONY liberals are trying to destroy America. I can’t wait until the civil war in America so we can rid this great country of those that hate it so much.
I can’t stop laughing at the one I just read that said you were a chickenhawk. OMG!!! HAHAHA.
A U.S. Marine in a war zone a chickenhawk? Where do they find these idiots who spout all this liberal bull?
There is some serious mental sickness going on in this country, just look at the college campuses these days. Free speech is wonderful, if you’re on the left, that is. But Lefty’s are intolerant if it comes form the right.

October 8th, 2006 at 9:37 pmThe military recruiters have started calling my students at home. They have become that desperate for young boys to enlist. The Bush twins are old enough. Send them.
October 8th, 2006 at 9:38 pm#18, Unbelievable: I guess that you can thank No Child Left Behind for the recruiters calling your students at home, right? That just sucks.
October 8th, 2006 at 9:53 pmThose recruiters are relentless, and sneaky. I’m glad they finally stopped calling.
October 8th, 2006 at 9:55 pmJane,
Pretty much.
Sickening. Definitely sucks…
October 8th, 2006 at 9:58 pmI think I’m going to get the kids to memorize the address to the White House and then tell the recruiters to go there to recruit some warm bodies…
October 8th, 2006 at 10:01 pmMy students have my permission to leave my classroom if any recruiters come into it. I told them it’s their Constitutional right to do so.
Good for you, keep drumming the Constitution into those kids. Get them on the right track!
October 8th, 2006 at 10:12 pmUS Troops are fighting block-by-block in Baghdad.
Sounds like another city about 38 years ago.
That city’s name was Hue.
October 8th, 2006 at 10:35 pmIraq is not a comma in history.
Iraq is a colon. A big smelly backed-up colon full of shit.
October 8th, 2006 at 10:37 pmTom3,
A former boss of mine, a retired Marine colonel, described being in a group of Marines trapped and surrounded in Hue City, for several hours during the Tet Offensive. Terrifying. I hate to think that it’s happening all over again in Iraq.

Anyone care to explain how this can be viewed as a success for Bush’s diplomacy?

October 9th, 2006 at 1:25 amYes other news blogs are reporting that North Korea successfully tested a nuke device underground!
October 9th, 2006 at 1:31 amJaneESchneider,
My students have my permission to leave my classroom if any recruiters come into it. I told them it’s their Constitutional right to do so.
“Good for you, keep drumming the Constitution into those kids. Get them on the right track!”
You seem to think the right track is only NOT serving in the military. That’s just pathetic.
And you wonder why so many people question whether or not liberals “support the troops”.
October 9th, 2006 at 1:54 amUnbelievable,
“The military recruiters have started calling my students at home. They have become that desperate for young boys to enlist.”
Hate to break it to you genius, but recruiters have always called students at home.
October 9th, 2006 at 2:00 amAnd you wonder why so many people question whether or not liberals “support the troopsâ€.
Comment by Mark Glesne
Strawman arguments get short shrift around here; the evidence points to republicans not giving a sh*t about the troops, given their votes against funding for troop protection. Don’t you get tired of having to lie for the republicans?
October 9th, 2006 at 2:26 amPlease, the Republican record stands ridiculously tall compared to that of the Democrats when it comes to defense spending.
October 9th, 2006 at 2:36 amServing in the military to fight against US enermies is OK but BUSH & Oil co’s enermies.
October 9th, 2006 at 4:56 amCheer up Amerika! Time to sing and dance!
October 9th, 2006 at 5:38 amI was actually surprised to hear this reported on CBS News last night. I actually thought that they’d forgotten about the war. But Lara Logan won’t let them forget.

October 9th, 2006 at 6:53 amwell done insurgents - keep killing those murdering rapist US Troops

After all them same troops have murdered 150,000 civillians and raped your women and killing your children for a lie they have been fed
and dont say there just doing their job…stuff that
October 9th, 2006 at 7:51 amBush and Cheney are happy to send other people’s sons and daughters to war, but they were noticably absent when they were called to Vietnam. And their children are also noticably absent from military service as are the children and grandchildren of those who continue to say “Stay the Course”.
The time has come to chart a new course. Vote Democrat in all races (and vote absentee if you live in Diebold country).
October 9th, 2006 at 8:48 am#32.

I have not but lived a long time and know a little about such matters…..Next, just what do you think happen’s to any service person who goes against order’s from the top…..May I sugest the very best cenario is they can get jail time for being insabortinate…The very worst they get dead….Get real, wake up please..

October 9th, 2006 at 10:31 am#47 Ah yes…Ofcourse…I don’t have the figures at hand but remember well how many of our troop’s over the year’s have been silenced by their own…Some one here I’m sure has that info…Un like you sir I know what our government can and has done to it’s service personell and citizens of the united states for over 40 year’s….From testing LSD to poisening the water way’s in California in the late 40’s….But then you knew that, right?……I did not know you served, how would I.?….Also, know lot’s of young servicemen in now and they have commented on strict obedience to order’s, it’s the military way, no matter what……Perhap’s in you’re part of the elite service thing’s are diffrent.?….They sure worked well for bush and his service to air national guard, didn’t they.

October 9th, 2006 at 1:06 pmAllow me to chime in…
#48: De Profundis is absolutely right.
God bless.
October 9th, 2006 at 1:24 pmMy neighbor is in Iraq and is disgusted by what he sees over there; essentially a grab bag for US Companies with no concern for US Troops, or Iraqi civilians. The past six years disgust me to no end and I honestly feel we need to bring back the draft and make this country do a real gut check on this war. I would be surprised how many folks out there would be for it and the GOP if we send little white, well to do Bobby and Cindy off to war.
October 9th, 2006 at 1:30 pmI guess it’s easier to send other peoples’ children off to die for a lie than your own.
Mark Glesne,
Now that GWB has admitted that Iraq had no WMD, no al Qeada, and was not involved in 9/11, why do you think we went over there? How do you justify it, in your own mind?
Were you over there fighting so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus? Among so many other things…
Believe me, I’m happy you’re back and able to run your blog, but I am curious about your possible anwers to my questions.
October 9th, 2006 at 1:39 pmSharon Cox if i tell you my name is Santo do you remember me now? What a bunch of retarded people around here!!! Thanks!…You made my job easier!….:)
October 9th, 2006 at 1:39 pmSorry Mark that I am no as clear in my writing, nor as eloquent, maybe because I joined the USAF back in 1966.
October 9th, 2006 at 1:44 pm#52, I alway’s try to give other poster’s with new names the benefit of the doubt. October 9th, 2006 at 1:54 pm“Now that GWB has admitted that Iraq had no WMD, no al Qeada, and was not involved in 9/11, why do you think we went over there?”
Fhew! I was beginning to think rational liberals didn’t exist on this blog (cite #40).
We’re over there for a plethora of reasons (U.N. violations, human right’s violations, etc.). Keep in mind that an Iraqi General has laid out how Saddam moved those WMDs in - and I’m willing to be an General in Saddam’s Air Force knows more than you or I do about the country’s WMDs.
TRUST ME, the list goes on and on and on and on…
October 9th, 2006 at 2:03 pmHmm, looks like the comment didn’t take my link.

October 9th, 2006 at 2:49 pmThank you, Mark.
October 9th, 2006 at 4:47 pmZooey, Habemus factotum, sorry Zookeeper….:)
October 9th, 2006 at 5:28 pmSanto, how are things going?
October 9th, 2006 at 5:32 pm#60:
October 9th, 2006 at 5:33 pmMark,
What “false evidence†were Democrats shown that caused them all to believe the same thing?
Now…you answer my question.
October 9th, 2006 at 6:01 pmI did answer your question!
October 9th, 2006 at 6:45 pmI did answer your question!
October 9th, 2006 at 7:49 pmFear not my frightened liberal friend, you (and I) will still rate our habeas corpus rights as we always have. The president is not about to abolish them and to think otherwise is quite moonbattish of you.
Tell you what, on your 90th birthday if you haven’t been imprisoned unlawfully… you owe me $50,000.
Sound good? Haha.
Calm down. You won’t lose your rights.
October 9th, 2006 at 7:57 pmI just realized, perhaps I should be more explicit with my answer - just in case…
You asked “Were you over there fighting so GWB could wiretap us, and sign away our right of habeas corpus?”
…and my answer is “no“.
October 9th, 2006 at 8:00 pm… AND
Just out of curiosity… which section of the bill specifically states you and I will lose our habeas corpus rights?
October 9th, 2006 at 8:04 pmI am perfectly calm, Mark, and I don’t live my life in fear.
Please read my above responses more carefully.
October 9th, 2006 at 8:38 pmAhh, I get it… it’s your theory.
So from your statements/questions I can assume that you believe I was in Iraq fighting for… your… theory.
Interesting. I guess this is what happens when facts don’t support your side - you speak of things that haven’t happened.
October 9th, 2006 at 8:52 pmMark,
That’s ridiculous. You have missed my point entirely.
October 9th, 2006 at 8:57 pmI didn’t miss your point. I was being somewhat facetious.
But I encourage you to explain further. What is your point exactly, Zooey?
You’re purporting that our hc rights are going to be taken away… based on no evidence except what you believe will happen.
Come on. Deal with fact. Give me some facts that citizens are about to lose our hc rights at the hands of George W…

October 9th, 2006 at 9:13 pm#73 Are you an idiot? Habeus corpus rights are not taken away? If you are a protester, they certainly are since the Decider can decide that you are an enemy combatant. You don’t have to worry about that since you have no balls but those of us who do might run afoul of big bad Georgie and his Decidering.
October 9th, 2006 at 10:24 pm“No balls.”
Haha!! You liberals crack me up. Meanwhile all you do is criticize a war from the comfort of your living room.
But I digress…
I suppose you, JPark, are another believer in the theory that Bush is going to take away hc rights?
Still waiting for facts…
October 9th, 2006 at 10:29 pm[…] Of course, it’s not just Foley. It’s Iraq (more bad news). It’s North Korea (more bad news). It’s Afghanistan (more bad news). […]

October 12th, 2006 at 4:59 amUS Marine Mark,
I can’t stop laughing at the one I just read that said you were a chickenhawk. OMG!!! HAHAHA.
HYPOCRISY????
