Probably a good read while taking a dump. Love the title. But I do agree with Reuters. Writing something like this for a person in management of a respected news organization does show bias. They don’t need that nor should they want it. News is news. Don’t bring gossip and slander into it….that’s what FOX does. Reuters doesn’t want to lower themselves into the cesspool. I say good for them. Hope he gets another job though…or write a book on Rush or O’liely.
#1 – I think you’re giving too much credit to Reuters as a respected news organization. While not Fox News, it’s hardly a paragon of fair and balanced reporting. America’s Least Wanted
Look, as unfair as it seems, he SHOULD have checked (and double checked) with his bosses at Reuters BEFORE coauthoring the book (that is, if he wanted to have a job there afterwards), for very obvious reasons any news organizations wants to keep its distance from any type of biased book. If he wasn’t careful about this it’s his fault only, now, it’s not like he cannot get a job elswhere.
A book written by a real journalist intended to expose someone like Coulter, should be taken as an act of public service, not an act of bias. Let’s keep the apples and oranges separate, shall we?
All the pundits at Fox News write annual diatribes against Democrats that border on hate speech.
Do they lose their jobs because of a company bias policy?
No.
They’re given promotions.
Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to loose, except for you’re job in the case of a book…..It would appear the reich leaning types don’t want MS.EVIL Ann to be held accountable for her vile mouth..Sad…..Blessings
Don’t give Ann Coulter the exposure she doesn’t deserve, I mean, who is she ?? SHE’s NOTHING !! The only thing that she is good at is upsetting us, but to write books about her ?? It’s just not worth it.
The difference, it seems, between “intelligent investigative reporting” and a “biased view” is merely whether you favor the writer or the writee. If Rueters is justified in firing Maguire for revealing the truth (the lack of a slander suit will prove my point) about Coulter then The Washington Post should fire Woodward. Reuters would have a shit-fit if anyone so much as hinted that their freedom of the press was to be infringed upon yet they feel free to do unto others. The Maguire book, unless done on Reuters time as a part of his job with specific direction as to content, is the business of Maquire and Coulter. If he did not speak true then Coulter has legal recourse; Reuters is not the judge nor the jury. I respect the right of Reuters to fire anyone they want for any reason but to claim Maquire was fired for “bias” proves that Reuters is the biased player in this game, not Maquire.
I can’t imagine the ethical gymnastics required to make that firing decision. That the first few posters commenting here couldn’t comprehend that such ethical gymnastics were required (they saw it as simple and straightfoward) is reflective of just how ethically challenged our cult-ure has become.
So now it’s “bias” to challenge plagarists, liars, and prevaricators in print? Wow, says a lot about Reuters’ “ethical standards” to me… they’re not worth reading if they can’t call a spade a spade without thinking that’s an act of bias.
The glorious Xtian cultural revolution must go on!
He wasn’t fired for calling a spade a spade; He was fired for calling it a F***ing shovel. One must always try for class (You have none if you disagree with me) or go out on your ass.
Ann Coulter attacks all liberals in her books, and nobody on the right denounces her, but when someone from the left finally stands up to her, he gets fired? SO much for freedom of speech.
To fire the reporter for “bias” implies the belief that Coulter somehow represents a legitimate political point of view. She doesn’t. She is just a spewer of hatred, racism, and intolerance, and an advocate of state-sponsored terrorism and total war. There is nothing legitimate about it and Coulter deserves universal condemnation, just like Holocaust deniers and neo-Nazi skinheads.
You are so incredibly intelligent liberalassholes. Please, if you feel like vomiting up your poorly thought out opinion again, you do it. It is more proof that homeschooling doesn’t work.
If Ann Coulter can write “Godless” and not be stoned to death for it, anyone can write anything. Reuters shouldn’t be sacking anyone. Ann Coulter is demented, everyone knows it. There’s really no need for a book to rebuke her claims, at least I thought….until Georgie got re-elected.
Coulter trannie gets 5 years in a filthy lesbo lockdown …with bad lighting!!!
5 years to talk out that huge dump she holds inside that filthy intestine she has for brain.

October 10th, 2006 at 11:25 amWriting a book would be something apart from editorial duties. I don;t think the book had anything to do with his job as an editor for Reuters.

Now there’s compassionate conservatism for you!
October 10th, 2006 at 11:45 amAnne Coulter is a proven plagiarist, hardly an act of God.
I ask, if this person did truly know GOD, then she wouldn’t be so hateful would she?
Anne has been fooled by Satan and does his work, not that of a Christian.
October 10th, 2006 at 11:45 amHe did get permission from Reuters to write his book. They changer their minds after it was published and fired him.
Hardly fair, no?

October 10th, 2006 at 12:16 pmBlogging about an article about the outcome of writing a book about an editorial writer.
5th-hand opinions don’t count for much: I’d suggest reading the book before commenting.

October 10th, 2006 at 12:23 pm#1 – How could you agree with the idea that this guy got canned. He was the editor for markets coverage, not the white house, or congress.

October 10th, 2006 at 3:31 pmI guess blaming the Democrats did not work, so now Mr. Hastert is attempting to throw his staff under the bus.
In the end, it will be Mr. Hastert himself under the bus. Hopefully the voters in his district will throw him under the bus on November 7.
October 10th, 2006 at 3:35 pmWhen book burnings will be organized I am sure they will be “fair and balanced”.
October 10th, 2006 at 5:32 pmYou all miss the point entirely – Reuters AND Foxnews are both owned by News Limited – which is owned and controlled by Rupert Murdoch.
Ruperts views are well known and edicotrs in his papers and TV media religiously practice self censorship – or else.
This sacking was done to ‘encourage the others” to toe the Murdoch conservative party line – which is Republicans and Israel and Tony Blair.
A visit to any Murdoch media outlet will prove the success of this approach, all they do is spout right wing talking points.
