Snowe rebukes “stay the course.”

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) said in a statement that as conditions in Iraq continue to worsen, “there must be no question among the (Bush) administration, the Congress and the Iraqi unity government that staying the course is neither an option nor a plan.”

WOW! A republican admitting that “stay the course” was their plan is a good first step!

  2. JesusChrist_GodOfWAR says:

    Well DUH!

Republicans must be worried for their jobs. Elections being so close at hand, that is.

  3. NewProg says:

    #1

Yeah it only took them three years to realize thier prez is dumber than a box of rocks. My apologies to the rocks.

  4. Marie says:

One by one, they will have to come around to turning their backs on the insane boy-king and his greedy, self-serving administration.

  5. NewProg says:

Well at least they woke up. I was beginning to think all republicans were mildly retarded(oops i should not have said that, i intern with Tom Petri). Well now all we can hope for next is for them to realize that Emperor/Pope/Ultimate Ruler/ Bush needs to step off his high horse and think for once in his miserable life.

  6. DutchHenry says:

Don’t believe the hype:She is yapping for the Nov election. How about the war profiteering, what is she doing about that ?She reminds me of Chris Shays who has had so many yrs to call out the Admin and did nary a thing.
Vote their(Repukes) butts out is the best policy.

  7. Gregor Samsa says:

Why has Sen. Snowe become a terrorist appeaser?

Why does she want to “cut and run”?

Why does she hate the troops?

  8. Pete_Bogs says:

nice to see some Republicants cutting and running from Bush’s horrible presidency…

  9. Bluedog49 says:

That’s a “moderate republican” for you: run to the left and govern to the right. Every six years or so they magically get a spine. Then for the next six years, they lie down and shut up while leadership loots and plunders.

  10. Erroll says:

Now how long will it be till the Republicans, and Democrats, adopt the strategy that stay the course= Stay and Die and that the only alternative to remaining in that quagmire in Iraq is get those troops back to this country as soon as possible?

  11. Steve says:

http://www.theworstpresidentever.org is still under Freeper attack.

    Comments like this…
    “F**king America hating liberals.

Anyone who voted yes should be
    tried for treason and executed.”

…should compel everyone to head over there and counter this propaganda attack

It may Snowe in Maine in November afterall–if she pulls a Lieberman and jumps ship.

  15. Badmoodman says:

“staying the course is neither an option nor a plan.” – - But it is a snappy catchphrase.

  16. Josh+P. says:

“War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man’s-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .”

You know who said that? Richard Nixon! Even Nixon had the forsight to look at a situation and make a reasonable determination about its possible outcomes. Bush is totally out of touch with reality.

Why does Sen. Snowe hate our freedom?

  24. WoopieGoldbergAddict says:

I think that Tony Snowe should lose his job for not supporting our Fearless Leader. You people should all be ashamed for disrespecting the President. Support our troops

  25. Gregor Samsa says:

Sen. Stowe was for “staying the course” before she was against it…

  26. Dog_named_Boo says:

Well no Freaking crap, If the Republicans would listen to the progressives once in a while maybe they would have saved themselves alot of gum-bumping and forehead smacking.

But, Really Olympia, don’t take us for fools, I for one, am well aware of the Baker Commission and how has come up with a new alternative to ‘cut and run’ and ’stay the course’.

That Alternative would appear to be what you Republicans belittled Murtha for, Redeployment.

Sure James Baker may call it ‘an alternative’ but that’s just weasel lawyer lingo.

Oh Olympia, I think Satan also has a spot for you.

You really should read more troll. It’s Olympia Snowe not Tony Snow, ding dong.

Let me tell you about respect Woopie, you earn respect it is not freely given. When George earns my respect, which after 6 years he hasn’t, and starts telling the truth and stop with that fake texas cowboy act, then MAYBE I will show some respect.

Now about this troop thing, How much would you like to wager that more of my family has served this country than yours?

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. According to the Bible I stole from a hotel room in Portland. Could be wrong I guess.

  36. WhiffleballTony says:

#34. They can’t all be winners I guess.

I swore I wouldn’t be this guy tonight. But, again, I post more lyrics. If TP doesn’t block them, as has happened in the past.

    Good night.

    People on the street now
    Faces long and grim
    Souls are feeling heavy
    And faith is growing thin
    Fears are getting stronger
You can Feel them on the rise
Hopelessness got some by the throat you can see it in their eyes
    I said how come
    How come
    Everybody on a shoestring
    Everybody in a hole
Everybody crossing their fingers and toes
Government man spin his politics till he got you pinned
Everybody trying to reach out to each other
But they don’t know where to begin
    I said how come
    I can’t tell
    the free world
    from living hell
    I said how come
    How come
    all I see
    is a child of god
    in misery
I said how come the pistol now as profit
The bullet some kind of lord and king
But pain is the only promise that this so called savior is going to bring
    Love can be a liar
And justice can be a thief
And freedom can be an empty cup from which everybody want to drink
    I said how come
    I can’t tell
    the free world
    from living hell
    I said how come
    How come
    all i see
    is a child of god
    in misery
    I said how come
    Its just man killing man
    Killing man
    Killing man
    Killing man
    Killing man
    I don’t understand
    Its just man killing man

    Ray Lamontagne

Clinton made me post this. He was on the shoulder closest to my Kool-Aid….

  43. JPark says:

#24 Hey, I got it right away. Sarcasm is good.

  44. SouthPaw says:

Okay, so as an aside before I sleep (I tried posting this before and my computer shut me down, so if it’s a double I apologize) I wanted to tell you of a big rig I was next to the other day that had Psalm 3:6 on the back. I, not being very biblical, had to look it up.

1 O LORD, how many are my foes!
    Many are rising against me;
2 many are saying to me,
“There is no help for you in God.” Selah

3 But you, O LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4 I cry aloud to the LORD,
and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah

    5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, for the LORD sustains me.
6 I am not afraid of ten thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.

    7 Rise up, O LORD!
    Deliver me, O my God!
    For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.

    8 Deliverance belongs to the LORD;
may your blessing be on your people! Selah

    a Syr: Heb him

    To be sure I I didn’t suffer a moment’s dyslexia, I looked up Psalm 6:

    1
1 2 For the leader; with stringed instruments, “upon the eighth.” A psalm of David.
    2
Do not reprove me in your anger, LORD, nor punish me in your wrath.
    3
Have pity on me, LORD, for I am weak; heal me, LORD, for my bones are trembling.
    4
3 In utter terror is my soul– and you, LORD, how long…?
    5
4 Turn, LORD, save my life; in your mercy rescue me.
    6
5 For who among the dead remembers you? Who praises you in Sheol?
    7
I am wearied with sighing; all night long tears drench my bed; my couch is soaked with weeping.
    8
My eyes are dimmed with sorrow, worn out because of all my foes.
    9
Away from me, all who do evil! The LORD has heard my weeping.
    10
The LORD has heard my prayer; the LORD takes up my plea.
    11
My foes will be terrified and disgraced; all will fall back in sudden shame.

Not a lot of difference, although this second seems to admit weakness.

I feel I am purchaing my one-way ticket to hell by comparing what is going on now with the Bible.

I am a believer in a higher power. I can’t see a bird fly or a crazy act of nature that doesn’t say to me, this is not an act of something unhuman.

At the same time, I think that to base your plan of action on absolute fear is insane. I am not afraid of God, I’m afraid of republicans. No, I won’t make a blanket statement. I am afraid of the Bush administration.

Sorry for the novel. ‘Night kids.

  45. WC says:

Even Bob Corker, running for Bill Frist’s seat in TN, is running away from “stay the course.”

‘I support what we’re trying to do as a country … I think we should stay the course,’ Corker said.” — 7/16/2006 AP

But in a debate with Harold Ford this past weekend, Corker said he had never used the phrase “stay the course.”

When confronted with evidence he had, a member of his campaign admitted Corker had used the phrase, but said that he didn’t mean it as an explanation that the U.S. should maintain the status quo.

And that was it. Corker’s spokesperson didn’t bother to explain the real reason Corker used it.

  46. JPark says:

#48 No wonder Ford is stretching his lead. Corker isn’t too bright.

  47. RUCerious says:

One of my favorite biblical passages:
    From Deuteronomy 24:5
“When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.”
That’s got to get some of our troops home, yo?

  48. RUCerious says:

    And for Ms Snowe
    Proverbs 2:10-15
2:10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant
    unto thy soul;

2:11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding
    shall keep thee:

2:12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man,
    from the man that speaketh froward things;

2:13 Who leave the paths of
    uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

    2:14 Who rejoice to do
    evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

    2:15 Whose ways
are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

  49. Sifleut says:

…She’s saying that so she can keep her job come November…

  50. ForTruth says:

I agree, this Snowe person is just saying that to keep her job. Otherwise, hell, its Bible Night here on TP.

  51. Zooey says:

Hell, if we’re having themes, I’m looking forward to Kama Sutra night on TP.

  52. JPark says:

No, Snowe could copulate with a spawn of Satan and still be elected. I think she is for real on this one. She is leading by 40+ points, folks.

  53. JPark says:

#54 LOL, sounds like a plan.

  54. Juan+C says:

The polls are all over the place on this race. One can only hope that the people in this state open their eyes and pull out a win for Ford.

  58. JPark says:

#60 It is a southern state. I am not exactly confident that they will do the right thing.

  59. Disgraceful says:

A team of American and Iraqi epidemiologists estimates that 655,000 more people have died in Iraq since coalition forces arrived in March 2003 than would have died if the invasion had not occurred.

The darfur killings looks irrelvant compared to Bush

  60. JustJohn says:

Why do all these blogs hate America?

  61. DallasNE says:

So Snowe’s rubber stamp is finally starting to run out of ink. About time!

Perhaps this Johns-Hopkins report had something to do with it.

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/10/11/iraq.death.toll.ap/index.html

While this number does seem a little high it was conducted by reputable people so it cannot be dismissed out of hand as some would like.
