Small plane crashes into NYC high-rise apartment.

Homeland Security officials say that “all indications” are that the crash is an accident. CNN reports that NORAD has scrambled fighter jets to fly over several major U.S. cities until the accident is confirmed.

That sure is one hell of a bad pilot ????

  2. aguafiero says:

Say, has anyone seen Uncle Deadeye recently?

  3. RayFromGA says:

The building should collapse in about 2 hours. GWB saw the whole thing.

  4. SKdeA says:

Funny, they didn’t scramble the fighters on 9/11 for the longest time… are they flying Bin Ladens out of the country just on case? Cynical me.
Hope no one was home in those apartments, how awful.

  5. rob says:

It’s really from explosives carefully planted inside the building. The plane is just a smokescreen. Right? Or was it Israel?

  6. jess says:

boy, someone wanted to get home fast, diarrhea?

  7. Dan says:

I really hope no one was home. Very sad.

  8. Ronin_Tetsuro says:

I’d like to know who/what was housed on those floors.

  9. SiriusA says:

wait… we’re 5 years after 9/11 and someone can just fly a plane into a building without any alarms going off beforehand? I understand (by NPR) they weren’t in contact with any control tower. WTF?

  10. Scott M says:

  11. . says:

I wonder what children’s book Shrub is reading right now?

  12. JaneESchneider says:

Ronin, it’s apartments plus offices and, I’m told, a Special Surgery unit of Lenox Hill Hospital. Some people that Wayne and I work with are checking into it, their originally from the city and are familiar with the area. They’re still checking it out here.

  13. trueblue says:

Please tell me I’m being cynical.
Today is 10/11. A plane crashes into a 50 story building.
People start getting antsy. 9/11 all over again is on people’s minds.
Karl Rove has promised an October surprize.
Are we starting the “boogey-man” thing all over again?
A lead up to something more? Something we can say….blame Iran for…?
A 500ft building is kinda hard not to miss.

  14. dlet says:

    JaneESchneider,
Correct on what the building is used as. A large chunk of East Side Manhatan is closed but it doesn’t seem to be anything other than a horrible accident. There is a lot of sightseeing planes and even waterplanes that take of from the East River so anything could have happened but so far they don’t know what the plane was doing or who it is.

  15. meanpeoplesuck says:

Just wait. They’ll find a way to blame Clinton for this too.

  17. Exley says:

Hey Jane…My sister lives two blocks away on 70th and York. That area is mostly condos and apartments. Already reports of deaths: “Police officials said two bodies were found on the ground, possibly passengers or crewmembers from the aircraft.” NYTimes

Unlike some posters here, I fail to see the humor in this situation.

  18. Ronin_Tetsuro says:

My hope is that this is just a terrible accident, and I extend prayer to the families of the victims.

Please don’t let the talking heads use this as cannon fodder this evening. If it’s not a big issue, don’t make it one to further your agenda.

  19. RE developer says:

  20. tom+baker says:

Super – who’s Dummy going to want to invade for this one? Paraguay?

Aw shucks, Ex, you were able to wring some humor out of the Iraqi death tolls, why go and get all touchy-feely about this? Get over it, champ.

  21. truetrue says:

Imagine if this is an Iraqi Pilot ?

well, he would be fighting us here, so i guess i would be wrong, because i never thought that would happen

  22. DRxJ says:

    exley, you hypocrite
You can find humour in an Iraqi being killed (you know, the bananna peel incident) but you chastise those you feel are “humoured” by this plane crash. I guess your concern is only if deaths occur among Americans. If that is true, you are a bigot, plain and simple

And for the record, I am deeply saddened by this recent tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers go out to those that are affected. (just as I do every day to the innocent citizens of Iraq, as well as our brave soldiers serving all over the world)

  23. Kevin says:

The building should collapse in about 2 hours. GWB saw the whole thing.

    Comment by RayFromGA — October 11, 2006 @ 3:45 pm

Less than 15 min to blame Bush. Wonder if it’s a record?

  24. Exley says:

DRxJ ….Y’see, the difference is no one really died in Iraq from slipping on a banana peel. This accident in New York is reality and there are confirmed deaths.

Got the distinction now, sport? Good.

  25. trueblue says:

    No, Kevin,
The record is within the GOP for blaming Clinton for North Korea’s nuke test.
A man out of office for 6 years now.
A man who had inspectors in NK and there was no enrichment.
    That’s the record.
As for Bush, who was President on 9/11/01?
    Who’s President now?

    Wake up.

  26. DRxJ says:

    Exley,
    I accept your apology

  27. Ronin_Tetsuro says:

    #25

Can’t be any better than the world record for Amount of Time An Administration Can Turn A Surplus Into A Deficit.

That one just got recently linked with Worlds Largest National Debt Ever. But hey, this is all still partisan, right? Right?

Crack open that walnut sized thinker of yours and cram some of the big picture in there, lamer.

  28. Exley says:

    29. Thank you for understanding the distinction, DrxJ.

  29. trueblue says:

Exley, please read your above post and then think of the over half a million people who have been killed in Iraq as a direct result of our invasion and occupancy.

    Talk about a banana peel.

The one Bush threw there when he decided to take revenge on the man who threatened his Daddy.

  30. JaneESchneider says:

I’m surprised that we haven’t heard any fighter jets, if they supposedly scrambled them. We’re close enough, and on a popular flight path. In fact, we’re so used to the contrails criss-crossing the sky, that after 9/11 when flights were grounded it was scary seeing a clear blue sky.

  31. GodfryDaniel says:

Still no i.d. of who the pilot was or where the aircraft originated. This is basic FAA info and should be available to the news media. Then scramble some jets around other metropolitin areas for good effect. Good job Karl, fly a drone into a Manhatten building and you won’t see a thing on the news about 650,000 dead Iraquis or perverts in congress.

  32. Exley says:

#27 Kevin…Not all posters on ThinkProgress are callous. Don’t let certain fringes taint the whole site. There are some decent people here.

  33. truetrue says:

    This is inexcusable.

    Comment by Kevin — October 11, 2006 @ 4:22 pm

    what?

there are 30 other days in a month for thios to be an accident

this is terrorism or a suicidal pilot

why diont they identify the pilot?

twin engine cesnas arent cheap. he got cleared for takeoff somewhere…

somebody must know who he is

  34. Exley says:

#24, But, ya gotta admit, DrxJ, the banana peel bit was pretty darn good!!!!

  35. dlet says:

I wonder if Exley will have sympathy for these people if they were two Mexicans trying to enter the US illegally…..no…I don’t have to wonder.

  36. tom+baker says:

aw geez – now here comes Kev , trying (but only trying) to pile on and prove some nonsense point to the effect that “you damned liberals just don’t respect human beings” (ironically, the exact thing that wingnuts accuse the left of doing too much of). it’s just pathetic, and even the genius of the bunch, Exley, does it, and all it demonstrates to me is that it is possible to be more dishonest than a liar. all i need now is some sanctimonious drivel from MA, and my day will be complete.

  37. trueblue says:

Good job Karl, fly a drone into a Manhatten building and you won’t see a thing on the news about 650,000 dead Iraquis or perverts in congress.

Exactly why I asked if I was being cynical.
    Doesn’t this seem a bit too………. contrived?

  38. Exley says:

#39….”even the genius of the bunch, Exley”

Why, thank you, Tom! But, I’m just a regular guy….with an incredibly high I.Q. … trying to get through the day like everybody else….

  39. Spudge_Boy says:

It’s really from explosives carefully planted inside the building. The plane is just a smokescreen. Right?

No, because this isn’t a false flag event and isn’t the “New Pearl Harbor” needed by the PNAC to get us into Iraq. We are already there.

  40. DRxJ says:

Actually, Exley, I find nothing humorous about the deaths of innocent civilians, whether they be Iraqis or Americans.

Humour aside, my concern here is, why the hell was a small plane allowed to navigate that low in NYC with our terror alerts elevated?

  41. Kevin says:

why diont they identify the pilot?

    Comment by truetrue — October 11, 2006 @ 4:28 pm

You think maybe they want to let the family know before they announce that on the news.

  42. GodfryDaniel says:

  43. zadig says:

I’m in Boston today, and I haven’t noticed any fighters flying over. And I think I’d notice. Could it be bullshit? Or is Boston not a major U.S. city?

Of course, Massachusetts *is* a den of blue-state-itude. Probably not worth protecting.

    That, or it’s bullshit.

  44. ren says:

    Is this the October surprise?????

  45. aguafiero says:

    #40….
    Leave no stone unturned:
From what we now know of the lengths the current administration will go to in acheiving its diabolical goals, there is no such thing as a cynical, or paranoid, or silly question.
The only dumb question is the one which isn’t asked.

  46. trueblue says:

    GodfryD,
I’m not saying your comment is contrived.
Please forgive me if you felt that.
I’m saying the plane crash seems contrived.

  47. ren says:

Wrong, the only time that information is withheld is when it is a minor. Next.

  49. Exley says:

#43 Actually, Exley, I find nothing humorous about the deaths of innocent civilians, whether they be Iraqis or Americans.

And neither do I, DrxJ. That is why you have never, ever read anything from me making light of the deaths of Iraqi civilians from suicide bombings, car bombings, religious militias, sectarian violence, or accidental civilian deaths from Coalition military activities.

I live on Cape Cod, pretty darned close to Otis AFB, where they would scramble them from.
    Had not heard a thing.

  55. GodfryDaniel says:

Trueblue- no opology neccessary, we’re all sick and tired of this bullshit. I just can’t believe this was an accident until I see something that convinces me otherwise.

My question is how did this pilot get thru the heightend security (isn’t it still Orange or Red for this area) and how is Clinton going to get blamed for this?

  61. trueblue says:

    UnholyMoses,
I do not want to cast doubt on the information you provided, but I just need to ask the question:
“Who would do tricks over NYC?”

There doesn’t seem to be much room up there for movement.

Again, nothing against what you said.
(I’m being extra careful because I put GodfryD off…)

  62. Exley says:

#53 “Because the damn yankees can’t give up the limelight”

Wow, bosox! I’m a Mets fan and even I think that is cold!

  63. JaneESchneider says:

Exley, you’re right, the plane was registered to Cory Lidle – Wayne just told me, and a Yankee fan here said the same thing.

I saw your post on the ThinkFast thread, yeah, I wish I had had more of a heads-up, too!

  64. DRxJ says:

    Holy crap!
and I was just about to make a friendly wager with Exley regarding the Tigers and the Mets hopefully meeting in the 2006 WS, which now seems pointless.
    some other time p’haps exley?

My heart goes out to Mr.Lidle’s family

  65. paul says:

There is a lot of good information that gets passed around here. But, please give up this fantasy that Bush was behind the planes flying into the pentagon and towers. (yes, I saw the veterans for 9/11, it’s a joke). When you seriously entertain that the administration is flying drones/airplanes into buildings, the credible points you try to make, become dismissed.

  66. Unholy+Moses says:

    trueblu–
Why not ask why people smoke or do heroin or … I dunno … vote Republican?

Fact is, there’s an awful lot of stupid people in the world. And unfortunately, our country seems to have the market cornered.

  67. Mr. Evil says:

#53 bosox: Yep, that’s the reports coming from CNN at the moment. The plane was registered to Cory Lidle, NY Yankees pitcher, who just received his pilot’s license less than a year ago. They say they found what’s left of his passport on the ground in the debris. Damn, he pitched for the Reds (my favorite) for a short while. Sad.

  68. trueblue says:

    UnholyMoses,
    I guess.

It just seems such a stupid move that I tried not to believe it.
Sorry if I offended you as well.

Maybe I should scram before I piss anyone else off…

    Sorry, All!

Me thinks ren needs a crash course in “tongue-in-cheek”…..

  70. Exley says:

#67 DrxJ….Well, we can still do the wager. I am sure Wayne and Jane might want a part of that action.

Poor Lidle. He was just yesterday in the midst of a New York sports mini-media firestorm. Some reporters were accusing him of trying to throw Joe Torre under the proverbial bus for the Yankees loss to the Tigers in the NLDS because of some quotes he made after the Yankkes defeat. Lidel had to go on a NY radio station to be interviewed and claim he had been taken out of context. The radio hosts were not very receptive to his explanation.

  71. JaneESchneider says:

I’m sure that they will have a Moment of Silence at Shea tonight. What a way to start the League Championship Series. Cory was a good pitcher, and will be missed by baseball fans.

  72. GodfryDaniel says:

It sounds now like this was an unfortunate accident by yet another overpaid, incompetent baseball player playing with his toys. But I do not retract my views of what the Bush administration is capable of in order to manipulate the media.

  73. DRxJ says:

I, for one, was extremely happy to see the “greatest line up of all time” basically manhandled by my beloved, no name Tigers.
Yet this overshadows any joy that I had.
too all the Yankee’s out there, I bleed “pinstripes” tonight also

  74. Exley says:

#76 Lidle’s death is a shame and a tragedy. But don’t let it take away from your joy at what the Tigers did to the Yankees last week. Believe me, every Mets fan was a Tigers fan last week!

  76. JaneESchneider says:

Trueblue, don’t worry, you’re not pissing everyone off! :-) I’m sure that we’ll find out more later about how this happened. There is airspace off the shore near that building (it’s not completely surrounded by other tall buildings.) If Lidle was flying erratically or showing off or whatever, it’ll all be talked about for the next week.

And Bosox, as a Mets fan I naturally hate the Yankees–even for me your comment was nasty.

  77. Exley says:

Jane…What’s the weather in New York. My sister says she fears the game may get rained tonight….Any chance of that?

  78. DaveRywall says:

    Dear Think Progress –

Tragedy aside, perhaps this story should be removed from the site as it has no relevance to what the site is about.

    I’m just saying.

  79. Kevin says:

If this site is a representation of what the “progressive movement” is, it’s despicable. This accident was tragic. People have died and people have lost there homes. You assume it’s a political move by the Bush administration to get votes. You accuse them of flying a drone into the building. No fact to back it up. And you folks want to believe that had to be it. Some of you seem disappointed that it wasn’t a drone. You let your hate for the president overtake whatever decency you may have to your fellow man. I can’t even believe it.

  80. JaneESchneider says:

Raining lightly right now. Probably lightly enough to play through.

First of all, some of the comments you mention are meant as jokes. They weren’t funny and in bad taste.

But that doesn’t make them “representative” of the “progressive movement.” After all, I could go to LGF can post hundreds of posts that, using your logic, would paint the GOP as the most racist, bigoted, uneducated pieces of crap in the history of all mankind. Instead, I realize that they are just one group that is in no way representative of the whole.

  85. hellinabucket says:

Kevin, chill out. The original thread was a plane hit a building. That is news. The thread then drifted to the pilot/ pitcher. TP doesn’t say it was a drone or that Bush planned this. Individuals did. In between those ramblings there are serious questions and heartfelt sadness. Drop the partisan crap for a bit. How did this accident occur? Weren’t there safeguards against this type of thing? What the hell is Homeland Security going to do about something like this.

It is tragic. And at the same time, a collective sigh of relief that it wasn’t a terrorist attack.

  98. SouthPaw says:

    That’s COLD, hardball and Eskwiya!!

I actually went up to watch the Simpsons, and MSNBC on commercials. It’s a journalistic feast! “It reminds me of when I walked up to ground zero….”, things of that nature.

While I undersatnd this scene had to hit deep initially, and surely subsequenly, as NYers are reminded of that awful day (not that I believe they, or anyone forgot) I don’t discredit any reporter who had a bad day there on 9/11. But don’t bring it up just to remind us how bold you are. If you were bold—you’d be talking about real issues from day to day.

  99. ren says:

#99 In NY we see alot of “I’ll never forget” “hero’s” with that damn saying on their cars and trucks with their China/ Magnet/ American/ Ribbon/// magnets saying, “We support our troops”…… How they support the troops by driving an “Escalade” or “Yucon Danali” at 80 mph up the Thruway, getting like 7 mpg; is anyones guess…. Point being, my friend says that I should get the bumper sticker that says,” I’ll never forget What?” ,, just to piss off all the wanna be 9/11 hero’s in their “Ford Explorer’s” and “Chevy Suburban’s”…..

Kinda made me sad that no one is paying attention.

Hey that’s the point… The news media in NY is milking this for all it’s worth to relive the Hysteria…. and jack up the ratings off of it. Watch, here in NY the ratings for the media outlets that are pushing this sh*t are going to have the lowest ratings for the day… As soon as we found out it was a small plane we knew after the third hour that they were milking the story…Look the ratings up for today on those stations and you’ll see that NYers arent suckers…

Hate to get more OT, however, I want to ask what you think of Bloomberg. I feel that NY is a clean city that I love to visit several times a year. I feel safe, cultered and ultimately ashamed of the poverty that appears to be growingexponentially in my own city.

I know he’s a registered republican, and I know some take qualm with the fact that there are big businesses, such as the WalMart types cropping up in lieu of ma and pa joints. But the ghettos are disappearing. I find it hard to think I would support a republican, and so far, I don’t. But self-funding sets him aside.

I’d like to know your take as a progressive NY’er, as I take you to be.

If I’ve rambled to much I apologize, just very curious.

Hi SouthPaw, on NY and Bloomberg…. Hard to say. He pissed us off with the no smoking in bars and he continued the Giuliani position of the so-called clean up of our”streets”. What actually happened under Giuliani and was extended by Bloomberg is that they got crime and “clean streets” confused.
Giuliani kicked off the streets a lot of the little sales and vendor guys so that the shoppers from out of town wouldn’t feel “scared”, so, now we have as I would call “SANITIZED” shopping areas like times square. Manhattan has become sterile….. all it is is Shopping for out of towners, even further down towards bleeker and SoHo the artistic and design oriented businesses are mostly gone. “Dumbo” is the art center now… So, NY is mostly homogenized and has lost a lot of character because of Giuliani’s obsession with crime and “clean streets” and the times of Saturday Night Live with Bullisi and Dan Acaroid. are gone. The free flow of ideas and creativity are kind of long gone but others will probably argue different, but that’s just me, an industrial designer / artist/ engineer and other things… thanks for asking, hope description wasn’t too long..

I appreciate your input, ren. My take is that Bmore’s homeless to working people ratio is becoming noticeable to others than myself. Not that I want the people that are needy to be hidden away. I wonder what my city is doing to help them. And I just wondered if your city’s plan had a rhyme and reason.

The homeless population is getting younger, and I (with no information to back this) feel that it is the result of vets coming home to a government that forgot about them.

I don’t have enough money to give to everyone at the bus stop.

There are actually stains on the pillars of the city hall from the people that lay their heads there for rest, as we sit and watch. Phone calls aren’t working.

Exley either doesn’t get it or he just sucks and needs to sacrafice one of his own family to war to find out what it is like to have someone on the line in combat in Iraq right now….

  130. Exley says:

Southpaw, Again I must ask you: Do you have a question to ask me or a point you’d like to make. You have already asked me several questions, which I have answered. I must admit your statement to ren (”As you may have noticed, Exley has me a bit distraught.”) has me baffled. I have no idea what I have said that has caused you distress. Other than posting #118, which was a response and “thank you” to your posting #93, I have not corresponded with you. Your attitude as expressed in your posting #126 puzzles me.

  131. SouthPaw says:

My mistake for being weak. They pounce on it.

    I just don’t understand.

Thanks, ren, for having my back.

  132. SouthPaw says:

The question at hand——–do you have any siblings enlisted?

And while we’re at it. Why aren’t you?

    ANSWER.

  133. ren says:

EXLEY LISTEN TO ME! you need to wake up and read the post.. You so neglected the fact thet SP was trying to reach out to you and you weren’t listening AGAIN!!! And for you to reiterate the fact that you can’t pay attention and feel the pain SP is going through with his brother being in Bagdad than I don’t know what to say to you to wake up….“Southpaw, Again I must ask you: Do you have a question to ask me or a point you’d like to make.”

  137. NewProg says:

EXLAX, answer him chicken hawk! It is your prez who is playing with the innocent lives of others for his own selfish gain. It saddens me when use and others like you use this war as a way to attack libs and progs. It is disturbing. And yet it seems the ones who are the most against this war are the ones who are serving there or know someone serving there. Many people like me are angry with the fact that people like you are to stubborn this war is a quagmire and that our current administration is corrupt. Then you and your troller friends have the gall to call US unamerican. You should be ashamed…

  138. Exley says:

ren, You and Southpaw seem to be acting under the misapprehension that I have read all the postings on this thread. I have not. I had no idea that Southpaw’s brother was in the Iraq (presumably in the military). I have several friends stationed in Iraq. As you yourself said in posting 127, “ANYBODY HERE NOT KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN TO IRAQ OR AHFGANISTAN?” The answer to that question is probably not. We likely all know someone who has served in those theaters. I also knew people murdered on 9/11.

Now that we have that established, what is your and Southpaw’s point or question?

  139. ren says:

#139 she…he… you are all brothers and sisters……Sp? anyone with anyone that they love who is in the military deserves our respect and needless to say anyone in combat… p.s. are you a hottie :-/ ?

  143. SouthPaw says:

Again, I have no idea about what you are referring. As I said, other than posting #118, in which I wrote, “#93 Thank you, Southpaw…We agree….Nothing wrong with a beer and a ballgame,” we have not discussed anything. So, other than writing that ‘thank you’ post, I had not addressed you before you asked me if I had any siblings and to read the Kovic piece. I am not sure what, according to you, I spoke about about before reading.

  155. Exley says:

#151 Try again, ren. After thanking Southpaw for agreeing with me that there is nothing wrong with a beer and a ballgame (see postings 93 and 118), Southpaw asked if I had any siblings and then to read the Kovic article. I responsed to both postings (see 121 and 125) in a very calm and civil tone (and why wouldn’t I be civil…Southpaw after all had stuck up for me)…Then all of sudden in posting 126 Southpaw unexplainedly went off on me, chastising me for some unknown reason. This whole exchange has left me puzzled. That is why I continue to try and understand what is going on.

I will again try to engage you, SouthPaw, in an amicable and civil manner. Yes, I have siblings. No, they are not currently enlisted in the military. Yes, I have friends in Iraq. Yes, I have read Kovic’s piece.

  156. SouthPaw says:

    Ren. I’m kinda hot…..

New Prog. See you at the polls!! I’m doing everything I can locally. Luckily, my family and most of my friends are waking up. I don’t feel “weird” sending them messages from congess, TrueMAjority, etc.
Most of whom have been blind. As was I for too long.

I’m glad as usual to have you guys.
We just need to keep speaking up!!

    On that note.

    Good night.

Exley, I pray for you. And read the article for real.

  157. Exley says:

#157, Calm yourself, Ren. You’re raving.

Southpaw, let’s try this again. I look forward to your response to posting 158.

  158. SouthPaw says:

I won’t be engaged in false terms, Exley. Stop being so conveniently confused. It’s unbecoming. And transparent.

I defendend you, and you attacked me. Case closed.

  159. Exley says:

#161. Southpaw, where did I attack you. You defended me. I thanked you. You asked me some questions. I responded in a civil tone and awaited additional questions. You then attacked me. Puzzled by your unprovoked attack, I again asked you what point you were trying to make. Since then you have avoided engaging me in a civil discussion despite several attempt by me to re-engage in a civil discussion.

Where have I attacked you? Which posting?

I really don’t know how to say something for the 25TH TIME EXley…. Read between the lines from the post where SP brings up her brother being in Iraq and go on from there, let me help you….#119did you get that One Hundred and Nineteen then read from there…..
Point is honestly, I don’t know South Paw from anyone else but it strikes me that you didn’t have either the energy to go and track down the portions of the blog that were pertinent to the point or you just didn’t give a sh*t too. And worse off is it wasn’t about some topical point that we disguss all the time, IT WAS ABOUT SOMEONES FAMILY MEMBER BEING IN IRAQ!!!!

  161. SouthPaw says:

    Exley, you’re klling me.

Just by continuing, by your own admission, to make pionts baced on nothing that you’ve read, you are offending me.

By defending Bush, while having no one that you may lose in the “last throes”, you are offending me.

By not opening your eyes to what YOUR government is doing to this nation, of which you are a part, you are offending me.

Please, Exley. I’m not trying to shove anything down your throat that you’re not already here to seek out.

I am glad you are here. Because it gives me hope that you are curious and questioning of your own beliefs. Not that I don’t think you are entitled to them.

I am glad you are here. And if it takes me having a moment of desparation and crying to keep you here, then I welcome it, and you.

    Please keep coming and learinng.

I hope that no one makes you feel you have to leave, or believe.

Just dont be a dick, for Pete’s sake!

  162. ren says:

Hey Exley I’ll give you one last chance… read numbers #118 #119#120#121. Now come back and tell us what they say….

  163. Exley says:

    #163, Ren,

SouthPaw’s posting addressed to me asking if I had any siblings was posting 120. Again, the only prior correspondence I had with Southpaw was about beer and baseball — not the war, not Iraq. I answered her. Twice. Once it was pointed out by you that she had a brother in Iraq and that she was trying to lead me somewhere, I again asked her to continue the discussion. She has refused. I have called no one names. I have empoyed no profanity. I have impugned no one’s character. I have been nothing but civil on this thread. How Southpaw and my brief and innocuous exchange about beer and baseball has degenerated into this name-calling and hostility is beyond me. Again, I invite Southpaw to make her point to me. There is really nothing more I can do at this point.

  164. Exley says:

#164, Southpaw, You have not seen some of my comments on other threads here today. I will provide them to you. But, in short, I say in those postings that I now believe it is time to bring the troops home from Iraq.

  165. ren says:

SP is talking about her brother and reaching out to you to understand… Please…

  166. SouthPaw says:

    Exley, I’ve seen your threads.

We’ve had common ground, but never politically. Humanly.

I thought you were one for a minute.

  167. Exley says:

Southpaw, Here are two postings I made today on a separate thread. As you can see, I now believe it may indeed be time to bring the troops (including your brother and my friedns) out of Iraq. Their job there is done:

…your prescription for reducing the death toll in Iraq is withdrawing Coalition troops (which, by the way, I am not saying I disagree with).

    Comment by Exley — October 11, 2006 @ 2:44 pm

#156…Okay, Jay. That’s fair. Like I said, I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I think it might indeed be high time to remove our troops from Iraq. The military’s job was to topple Saddam. That had been done. The job of our military was never to try and prevent Iraqis from killing eachother.

    Make your own decision.

  176. Exley says:

#175, Okay, Southpaw, I give up. I have repeatedly attempted to re-engage in a civil and meaningful discussion of whatever topic you initially wanted to discuss with me. You have refused. I appreciate your comments about baseball and beer. I would have enjoyed continuing the other topic of conversation. Perhaps some other time. Have a good night. As I do for all our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world, I wish your brother a safe tour and safe journey home as soon as possible.

  177. ren says:

#174 Exley, I dont know what you can do except to say im sorry for posting crap like,”I’ve posted other things that you would like” or what ever… This isn’t suck up time, it’s grown up time.
Here is what you say,“SP I am very sorry that I did not go back and read the blogs that you posted and I myself posted ignorant retorts in response to things that you have said. I didn’t have any idea that I was being cold and mistakenly came across that way. I am very sorry and in the future would much respect correspondence with you on the blogs. Again, I am sorry if I have upset you in any way or have offended you in any way, my apologies….”

  178. ren says:

P.S. by the way all of that apologie retoric will gett you nowhere if it isn’t from the heart and if it is from the heart it will only heal about 10% of the damage that the thusfar neglect has done, but it’s moving foward and better than just being stubborn and dumb…

  179. Exley says:

#180 Ren, I find it ironic that you are criticizing me for not reading every single posting on this thread and not being aware that in an earlier post that Southpaw stated sge had a brother in Iraq when the fact is that the whole discussion started when Southpaw asked me a question when I had already provided the answer to her question in an earlier post; specifcially, Southpaw asked me if I had any siblings, when I had already mentioned my sister.

So, in Ren’s world, it is acceptable for some people to skip posts but not others.

Come on, Ren. You can do better than that.

  180. Clyde+the+Ripper says:

“The White House just announced that because of the recent events in New York troops will be immediately sent to Bermuda to hunt down and take into custody the leader of the responsible terrorist organization. The troops will be looking for one Mister George Steinbrenner the reported mastermind and financial backer of the organization.”

  181. ren says:

Hello, she asked you that later on too… did you ever here of conversation and rhetoric? speaking and conversating with eachother not merely repeating. come on exley, you can do better than that…

  182. Exley says:

184 –Ren, Yes, after I pointed out that I had already provided the information she had requested, she asked a follow-up question…which I also answered. Just as, after I was informed that some information about Southpaw had already been posted, I responded accordingly…I have attempted to pick up this conversation repeatedly; answered all of SP’s questions, only to be rebuffed.

  183. ren says:

  184. ren says:

#183 very nice… dobbs is doing ok staying away from the mexicans on the daily show so far eh?

  185. Exley says:

Moreover #184, did you ever here of conversation and rhetoric? speaking and conversating with eachother not merely repeating.….Indeed. And so I would ask why Southpaw did not merely inform me that her brother was in Iraq instead of assuming that I had read every single post on this thread (Something that she herself had not done) and then refusing to divulge that information directly to me?

  186. Exley says:

And, finally, Ren…Care to explain this rather bizarre sentence?:

I dont know what you can do except to say im sorry for posting crap like,”I’ve posted other things that you would like” or what ever…

  187. ren says:

#185 Exley have you ever had to sincerely had to apologize to anybody? Please read the blog again and again if you have to and please try to get what sp is saying. I give you credit on your effort to try and grasp what sp is saying but you are clearly not seeing the point…. I cant argue this anymore, we are just not seeing eye to eye on this but we’ll get through it… I’ll be online arguing still but not on this, forgive me.. talk to you later exley…

  188. Exley says:

    #190

Fine, Ren…As I said, this whole “conversation” has been surreal and baffling. Let’s move on.

  189. ren says:

#188 exley you just wont let me go will you? We said read the blog then we said #118 and #119 like 5 times so there is no excuse there…I guess we’re at the point where you have to let this go… will you?.But not after my favorite denile…Indeed. And so I would ask why Southpaw did not merely inform me that her brother was in Iraq instead of assuming that I had read every single post on this thread (Something that she herself had not done) and then refusing to divulge that information directly to me?

  190. Exley says:

    #192, Ren,

I thought we were letting this go (See 190, 191)???? I am done with this topic. It is too frustrating and bizarre.

  191. paul says:

SouthPaw. I read the Kovic piece. I hope the best for you and your family. All I can say is, I spent 10 years in the military in a combat role. I would go to Iraq now and my kids are young, but I would support them going when they get older. Neither of us is inhumane, we have different beliefs. You could make the argument that World War II wasn’t worth it, but it depends on what you believe is worth fighting for. I simply believe that there is an ideology in the Middle East that poses a threat to our freedoms and way of life. I site pre-9/11 attacks, 9/11, Danish cartoons, Pope incident, Cancelled German play, etc. I just see differently than you. I could be wrong and so could you. I would die to ensure our freedom of speech, right to vote, freedom of religion, liberty and pursuit of happiness. I’m sure you would too, if that is what you thought was at stake. We loss 300,000 Americans in WWII, the world lost 10’s of millions. If we are unwilling to take any loss, we become paralyzed to take any action.

  192. SouthPaw says:

196- Paul, if I felt that our defending our basic freedoms as Americans was the reason for the war, I too would be supportive of it. No doubt there. Where we don’t agree is the basis of what this war is for.

I respect your opinion, and thank you for your 10 years of service. I am glad you are still here to talk about it.

I’m just not sure that we’re killing people by the ______ (insert zeros for whichever study you side with) for any valuable reason.

You say that there is an ideology that makes you feel the Middle East has poses a threat. Don’t they have the right to hold their own ideology? Don’t you suppose that the US thinking that its ideology is bigger and better than theirs and shoving it in their faces, is kinda rude?

If there is a threat, our nation’s security needs to be tightened to protect us. Let’s spend the money on that. For every person with the ideology you speak of that we capture or kill, there are probably several more taking that place. We are making it worse.

How did this get on a thread about a plane crash?! ;)

I again truly thank you for your military service, Paul.

  193. paul says:

SouthPaw, hopefully we’ll all get some idea of resolution in November, but that’s wishful thinking. I believe that one day, this will pass and we will still or again be proud to be Americans. Until then, I respect the way you feel. Peace and love.

  194. Exley says:

So, SouthPaw, are you through with your tantrum and ready to act like an adult now?

I will give you another chance: What was your point?

  195. JaneESchneider says:

Exley, I haven’t even caught up with all the comments, but I think you’re taking the wrong approach here. SouthPaw needs sympathy and understanding, she(?) is very upset and worried about her brother in Baghdad. Poor thing, she has my sympathies, and she should have yours, too. You need to be nice, caring, concerned, not just civil. Try again, without the snarkiness. You can do it! :-)

    Talk to you later.

  196. I have BDS says:

    For all us Truthers
This is all planned out by evil Bushco.
They are trying to scare us.
    Here is the real story.

  197. ren says:

But the mark of a great presidency is not eloquence. It is not great delivery of speeches. It is results and the inspiration the president gives to the nation. In that sense, it cannot be denied that Dubya has been a great president.Comment by Exley — October 12, 2006 @ 12:04 pm

  198. Exley says:

    #200 Hi Jane….

Looks like we have to wait one more night. If you look at the entire exchange between me, SouthPaw, and an intervening (but well-meaning) Ren, I think you will see that I have been nothing but polite to Southpaw from the very moment she sought to engage me in a discussion. I answered all her questions in a polite and civil tone. And her response to me was:

Never mind fU*K YOU Exley. Just F you. You immovable piece of sh!t.

It was a bizarre and uncalled for response to…well…nothing. If you are interested, look at the postings starting at Posting #120, which was the first posting where SouthPaw addressed me, and take it from there. You will see that I made repeated attempts to engage Southpaw in a civil and meaningful exchange. She chose to ignore these overtures, and instead opted to lob hostile invectives. (Have you ever known me to use such unsavory language, Jane?)

As you know, Jane, I have great respect for the men and women who serve in the military, especially those who are in Iraq and Afghanistan in combat against our savage enemies. As I said, I have several friends over there. I also know people murdered on 9/11. Southpaw’s brother has my respect and admiration. But Southpaw does not have a monopoly on having a personal stake in the War on Terror.

However, it is exactly because I respect the service of Southpaw’s brother that I opted again today — following a good night’s sleep – to try and get Southpaw to make the point she was going to explain before she started to hurl insults. I am more than willing to and desirous of hearing what she has to say…(At the same time, Jane, I am not going to allow myself to be anyone’s punching bag! :) ) I hope Southpaw responds to me….

  199. JaneESchneider says:

Well, Ren, we all know Exley’s wrong on that count! Unless he’s thinking the way, is it Time magazine that puts out the Man of the Year cover, awarding it to the most influential person, even if it’s someone like Ayatollah Khomeini (sp?). In this case, the results are just plain awful, and the inspiration is fear.

  200. ren says:

#203 Bla Freakin’ Bla Bla….Drop it Exley it’s over and done. By the way aren’t we all supposed to be at work during the week? The only reason I’m even on is cause I’m at home sick as a dog. WTF?

  201. SouthPaw says:

Exley, you steamed my so much lastnight that I cursed at you. On that one post. I was as civil to you as possible, and refrained from name calling until that point. I am not going to sit here and debate you on how you peaved me, because I stated that in post #164, and that’s all I have to say about that.

I recant the foul language, and hope that you will forgive me that. It stands that I think you are immovable.

Thank, Jane, for your well wishes.

Exley, I’m done talking to you for a while.

  202. ren says:

#204 what’s up JaneE. How’s things? I just had to post that quote from Exley, it’s so crazy funny and sad. The whole thing last night with South Paw and Exley was so draining, he just couldn’t get is and still doesn’t and I guess never will.. so I’m dropping it, I can’t get sucked back into an insane discussion. Hope all is good with you guys though take care JaneE…

  203. JaneESchneider says:

SouthPaw, how’re you feeling today. I felt so bad for you last night, but I had to leave (was at the office) so I couldn’t jump in to try to help out. Hope your bed and your dog helped. :-)

Ren, sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. I’m only popping in and out of TP during the day today because I won’t have any time after work. Feel better!

  204. ren says:

Thanks JaneE, Hey SP how are you by the way? Didn’t mean to jump in to much to “rescue” you or anything, just thought I could help take the pressure off last night and clarify things for Exley. I am so sorry that you had to endure that last night. It’s one thing when someone f*ck’s with me (I can usually take it) but, when someone f*ck’s with another person who I respect or care about or even someone who is completely non-deserving of being toyed with; that upsets me more than anything and it’s hard not to jump in. I feel your frustration and hope you can understand that there are others reading your posts who completely understand what you are going through and care for you and your family of Firefighters and Vets and yourself, stay strong because there are many more fights ahead. -ren

  205. criticalthinker says:

Note that the hole that the plane went through was smaller in diameter than the width of the plane’s wings, therefore the wings sheared off and can be seen outside the building, as the laws of science and common sense would dictate.

I guess the “plane” that hit the Pentagon on 9-11 did not believe in those same laws!

  206. SouthPaw says:

Hey Ren, Jane! I’m much better today, now that I have had time to take a step back from the situation and see that I was just giving Exley exactly what he wanted.

I really think people like him have no emotions, so they try to invoke them from others to see what happens. Preferably not the happy ones, if they can help it. They don’t understand them, although they think they do.

In hindsight, I feel sorry for him. He will never get it. (And that applies on so many levels, doesn’t it?) heh heh. ;)

You did not jump in too much, Ren!! I appreciate it!

  207. SouthPaw says:

BTW, Ren. I am at work!! No one pays any attention to me in my office as long as I meet my deadlines, which is always.

So I can hop in on TP whenever.

Sorry you’re not feeling well. We have quite bug floating around these parts, too.

  208. ren says:

SP good to see that you didn’t get sucked into the B.S. On a certain level I tend to believe he was being genuine. (A genuine A@sss H**ole) in that like you say he cannot help it. It’s like the quote that he said earlier today: But the mark of a great presidency is not eloquence. It is not great delivery of speeches. It is results and the inspiration the president gives to the nation. In that sense, it cannot be denied that Dubya has been a great president.Comment by Exley — October 12, 2006 @ 12:04 pm
Now WTF is that all about? Like you said SP, you’ve got to watch out how far you let yourself get sucked into debates with some people. P.S. I am not one to think these guys like Exley are amusing because we are dealing with such serious issues, so it’s hard to find some fecicious comments funny, but I still try.. All in all.. see ya round Southie..

  209. Exley says:

#205, 206, 207….Back from lunch and back in the office….Yes, ren, I should be working….But, I just don’t feel like it….I am reminded of the line from Peter Gibbons in Office Space– “It’s not that I’m lazy, Bob. It’s that I just don’t care.”

And you are correct, Ren; last night was exhausting and insane. We, of course, differ as to who was being exhausting and perplexing, but nevertheless.

Southpaw, I accept your apology the name-calling and foul language. Let us move forward amicably.

Jane, say hi to Wayne….Looks like we will get the game in tonight.

  210. ren says:

#212 Hey, SP, I shouldn’t be talking sh*t about people being at work or not… It’s just f*cked up that my whole building is full of jackoff’s that don’t do jack all day and I get home from work and I just get depressed to think why I go to work all day and bust my ass…? (by the way, I went to school for Fine Arts, Industrial Design, Engineering but was a drop-out in my third year. I saw the writing on the wall, I’m good at math but cant do it all day for a living/ I’m a great designer but all they want you to do is SELL a product, instead of creating better design’s/ I’m a pretty good artist but it just so turn’s out that doing Fine Art is the hardest of the three…Anyways.. some background to last night. What I am now is a Mechanic and Fabricator of Steel, so much for all the College work…)

  211. ren says:

#214, Exley, It’s hard not to appreciate anyone who like’s “Office Space” or didn’t you get the memo?

  212. Exley says:

#216, No, ren, I got the memo…I just forgot. But the TPS reports don’t go out until tomorrow, so there’s no problem….Hold on, ren, my phone is ringing….

    Hello…..No, I got the memo….

    Ren, I gotta take this…

  213. ren says:

You have to have a great Idea, Like that guy that came up with the pet rock…
You know, I had a great Idea once…
    It was a,” JUMP…TO…CONCLUSIONS…MAT”

  214. Exley says:

That is the worst idea I have ever heard.

Yes, yes….This is terrible this idea.

  215. JaneESchneider says:

Exley, Ren, Office Space is why I call my collection of Mets’ pins “flair”.

Where Wayne and I work, a few years ago they hired some consultants to talk to us and figure out where things could be improved, so we called them the “Bobs.”

  216. Exley says:

#220….Actually, Jane, we need to talk about your “flair.” Now, as you know, 15 pieces of flair is the bare minimum…Now, it is up to you if you are comfortable doing the minimum, but look at Brian over there…He has 37 pieces of flair…

  217. JaneESchneider says:

    Boy, have we gone off-topic!:-D

  218. Exley says:

#223…Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off….But the new topic is much more fun. Is Wayne really boycotting TP, Jane?

  219. JaneESchneider says:

For the time being at least. He may lurk occasionally, or even post occasionally, but for now he’s pretty much staying away.

  220. Exley says:

That’s shame…I liked talking to Wayne. Well, when the Mets win it all, I better see him here so we can all congratulate eachother.

  221. ren says:

the conversation about the flair in the movie was much like last nights conversation in that Jen Aniston kept asking if she needed to wear more flair and he wouldn’t answer her directly… That’s what you were doing Exley… You just wouldn’t get the point, no offence….It’s a “Jump to Conclusions mat”. You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.

  222. Exley says:

#226 REN! We keep agreeing to drop this matter and yet you keep bringing it up again! Obviously, we don’t view last night the same way…As Jay says in 40 Year Old Virgin: “Now you’re being condescending. You’ve been warned, awright? Let’s move forward amicably.”

    :)

  223. SouthPaw says:

I was just talking about the ‘flair’ the other day!

Anyway, Ren, I hear you. I majored in English, and I’ve been a paralegal since I graduated–4 years ago! (Bushco & NCLB keeping me out of the classroom for now, but hope to teach someday soon.)

A good friend of mine graduated from the same school as I did with a degree in Theater. She is also a paralegal.

Glad you saw the writing on the wall in time to save some money.

Exley, I had to laugh when I saw your initial office space comment. I kinda feel the same way about my job….

  224. Exley says:

#228 Actually, SouthPaw, I just used that line with a co-worker while I was at lunch. That is why it was fresh in my mind when I came back to the office and put up the posting to Ren.

Southpaw, I am sorry we got off on the wrong foot last night. I didn’t mean to come off as insensitive or a jerk. I must admit I am still not sure what I did wrong. But I apologize.

  225. ren says:

#227 I haven’t seen that one but I assume that “the warning” is just a movie line because obviously you wouldn’t actually have the rocks to be”warning” me about anything, right?

  226. ren says:

What’s with the freakin delay on the site. I posted something and it doesn’t come up for 10 minuts.. sorry about the double post//

  227. Exley says:

#230, Ren…I said it was a quote. It’s from “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” VERY funny movie. I highly recommend you rent the DVD. But make sure you rent the “Director’s Cut.”

  228. SouthPaw says:

    Holy sh!t!!!

    Thanks for the apology, Exley.

I’m sure you’ll piss me off again later! :)

  229. ren says:

#234 just didn’t like the “Warning”part… I’ll check it out, thanks

  230. ren says:

#233, SP I said that was all he had to do last night, sometimes it takes awhile for the crow to digest…but nice work Exley…you did it…

  231. Exley says:

I’m sure you’ll piss me off again later! :)

No doubt, Southpaw, no doubt! :)

  232. Exley says:

#234…Ren…It is just a very funny line (in context) from a very funny movie.

    Relax, dude. No hostile intent.

  233. ren says:

yo 239, I know all good here too…

  234. Exley says:

#235…Hoo boy, ren. You can’t let it go, can you?

#233, SP I said that was all he had to do last night,

Ummm, I do not need you to tell me what I should do or “have to do.”

it takes awhile for the crow to digest

Again, no “crow” has been consumed. I expressed my regrets to SouthPaw for our getting off on the wrong foot.

Once again, as Jay said: “Now you’re being condescending…Let’s move on amicably.”

  235. Exley says:

    #240 Ren….yo 239, I know all good here too…

Good Lord! This is the thread that will never end!!!! Maybe we should all just exit before we start feuding again!

PEACE OUT!!!! (Or whatever it is the kids say these days :) )

  236. ren says:

#239 Hey Exley ok…. On the count of three it’s done ok? One…… Two………… Two and a half……… Two and Three Quarters…….THREE!!!!!
    Ok…. we’re done right?

  237. Exley says:

    #243 Done AND DONE!

  238. Exley says:

    But one more thing…….

    Just kidding.

  239. ren says:

    But last night Exley……:)

  240. ren says:

Samir: No one in this country can ever pronounce my name right. It’s not that hard: Samir Na-gheen-an-a-jar. Nagheenanajar.
Bolton: Yeah, well at least your name isn’t Michael Bolton.
Samir: You know there’s nothing wrong with that name.
Bolton: There was nothing wrong with it… until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys.
Samir: Hmm… well why don’t you just go by Mike instead of Michael?
Bolton: No way. Why should I change? He’s the one who sucks.

  241. JaneESchneider says:

    Are you guys “done” yet?!

  242. Exley says:

#248, Yes, Jane….Peace has broken out.

  243. Exley says:

#246 Ren…That exchange contain two of my favorite tidbits from the movie:

    1) “No-talent ass-clown” (which I used the other day when someone brought up the name James Blunt (shudder))

    2) “No way. Why should I change? He’s the one who sucks.” Just brilliant.

  244. Exley says:

Peter Gibbons: So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that’s on the worst day of my life.

Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?

    Peter Gibbons: Yeah.

Dr. Swanson: Wow, that’s messed up.

  245. ren says:

    “No-talent ass-clown” I love that too, I steal it alot…

  246. ren says:

Bolton: If we get caught, we’re not going to white-collar resort prison. No, no, no. We’re going to federal POUND ME IN THE ASS prison.
Samir: I don’t want to go to ANY prison!

  247. ren says:

Bob Porter: Looks like you’ve been missing a lot of work lately.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I wouldn’t exactly say I’ve been *missing* it, Bob.

  248. Exley says:

#253…Classic. That is the BEST line in whole movie, right next to my motto, whcih I told you earlier:

    “It’s not that I’m lazy, Ren. It’s that I just don’t care.”

  249. JaneESchneider says:

If I don’t get the chance before I leave work today:

Exley: what can I say besides “LET’S GO METS!” Enjoy the game (at least you have your beer and snacks ready!)

Ren, SouthPaw, have a great evening. I’m glad this thread worked out better today than yesterday. Ren, again, hope you feel better. SouthPaw, my thoughts are with you and your brother.

    ‘Til tomorrow!

  250. ren says:

Not to offend mets fans but I’ve been a mets fan my whole life and they always seem to cave under pressure. Good luck but they are going to get spanked….

  251. Exley says:

    Ren, BLASPHEMY!!!!!

Jane, Tell Wayne I said hello and LET’S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!

    Good night, Southpaw, Ren

  252. JaneESchneider says:

Hey, Ren, you think we don’t know that?:-) I’m terrified they’re going to blow it, but that’s part of being a Mets fan. It’s doubly worse when you’re a Mets fan AND a Jets fan!

    Gotta go–goodnight, all!

  253. ren says:

Don’t even go there with the Jets….

  254. NewProg says:

    Ren

Nice to see you back. I am a giants fan, and a jets fan so double the chances of having one of my teams winning.

    Southpaw

Good to here you doing better. I know it is frustrating talking to some trolls and I admire your dignity.

    Exley

I appologize for the attacks on you. You did not deserve it. I hope you forgive me.

  255. ren says:

ExleyI appologize for the attacks on you. You did not deserve it. I hope you forgive me.
    Comment by NewProg — October 12, 2006 @ 8:01 pm
Yes he deserved it at the time but now its ok, but he did deserve it last night

  256. Exley says:

#260 NewProg….No apologies necessary. No hard feelings. Thank you.

  257. Exley says:

    #261….REN!!!

You have violated the armistice of Postings# 241-245!!!!!!!!

But in the interests of peace, I will look past this transgression.

  258. Dwight D. Leister: Chair: Committee To Elect says:

As a pilot learning to fly at age 14 Doctors examinations include depth perception so that pilots can judge how far from an object they are in landings and emergencies.

While training with a flight instructor as we took off after leaving the runway the flight instuctor CUT THE ENGINE to teach me what to do. He immediatly dove the aircraft to gain speed directly at a ranch house at the end of the runway;then restarted the engine gave it full throttle and in a dive gaining speed pulled up and just missed the house.

This is the kind of training and more pilots go through to get certified.

My comment is this was a pitcher for the New York Yankees that threw strikes and balls I could not throw even as a pilot and he hit a 50 story building dead center after turning away from the East River where he could have ditched?

This is NOT a jet aircraft and flying this type of plane at low altitudes zig zagging between New York Sky Scrappers to find a suitable landing spot instead of the East River for any pilot shows utter stupidy!

My guess is since Stienbrenner wanted to fire Joe Torrey the week before for loosing the pennant Torrey blamed Lidel for the loss;and Lidel showed everyone what he could do as a pilot.

New York needs to raise the ceiling on Aircraft above 500 feet and restrict private aircraft from playing PINBALL with its high rise buildings.
